In march of 2008 I began teaching at [redacted]. I started as an assistant, helping students as they needed me, happily sitting by their side and watching as they repeated the same tasks over and over again.
I loved watching them gain the skills they failed to pick up in their day to day lives. Following the termination of my colleague in that summer, I was promoted to instructor, taking the lead in the classroom. I was proud of what I did, watching my students, aged 20 to 80, gain the computer skills necessary to survive in this world. I have stacks of thank you cards voicing their appreciation. As time went by, however, our center "evolved" and we became more "professional." Student/Teacher friendship was no longer as important as "respect" and more accurately: fear. They wanted to feel like they were in a classroom, teacher strict and direct, forbidding exploration. I watched the students in other classes grow bored, whereas mine were always engrossed with the topics I taught. Somehow, however, my hours were cut because I wasn't "professional" enough.
Yesterday, I was fired because of a complaint that reached one of our major donors. For two years this position has been my lifeblood, my raison d'etre and now it's gone.
I'm lost, I'm broke, and I've got my parents breathing down my neck who think that they're helping by standing over my shoulder every moment of every day.

Possiby the worst idea ever
Posted 16 years agoSo, for reasons I can't quite explain, there exists a Jewish holiday centered around dressing up.
Last year, I invited two fursuiters to come to my synagogue with me and celebrate, causing general enjoyment and fun for all. In order to keep this from becoming a "furries ruin everything" experience, the attendance will have to be limited, but anyone who would like to full suit in a synagogue in February in south eastern Michigan, please contact me directly or here.

Today I woke up at 8:11, relaxed for a bit, took a nice shower, came to work...all seemed like the start of a good day.
I knew a couple of students would be in and I'd have no assistants today, but I figured I could work on my chainmaille in the classroom so they could ask me questions. So, naturally, one of my boxes hit the pavement on the way in and broke.
Following this, students gradually came in, was nice, one took her final and passed (99.5% :D) and I helped some others study.
Round about noon a client came in for web help. She bought a website with a site creator package and wanted help. She's a custom pen designer. I told her that there's a website that has a great interface for that (etsy.com, check it out). My boss basically told me to shut up so we could help this poor woman throw good money after bad and design a site for her. >.<
Ok, fine...browse online quiet for a while, helping a student...then find out the Israel Service Corp, which cost me 3 grand+expenses to volunteer in Israel for 5 months, is now available entirely free of charge.
