Jadefall Playtesting will be conducted on the following times:
~Sunday~ Midnight to Early Morning
~Monday~ Afternoon to Evening, Midnight to Early Morning
~Tuesday~ Afternoon to Evening, Midnight to Early Morning
~~EDIT~~ Pacific times, by the way
Participation will require the following:
~Downloading MapTool (version v87) http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=downloads
~Excel, OpenOffice (free download), or some other program to edit a spreadsheet file
~An email that can receive a zipped file just under a meg
~An open mind for possibly playing with strangers (including non-furs)
~A creative mind to talk about problem spots or ways to make improvements. (keep in mind that I have one or more reasons for just about every piece of how the game works. SO MUCH GAME THEORY)
~(Optional) MSN, Skype, or Steam to chat with me between games
The following will -not- be required:

Concerning Pen&Paper RPGs and my freaking 'job'...

Weird Dream - Not to be confused with Contra
General | Posted 13 years agoI was living in a city, though I don't recognize the exact streets so it was probably something I had seen on TV or in the movies. I had just finished doing... -something- important that was relevant to my last dream, when I notice that the streets are totally empty. The friend who'd been with me since the previous dream (who I did not recognize in the least, other than she straight blonde hair... I don't think I actually know anybody like that...) explained to me that everybody was told to stay indoors due to some trouble outside. So, naturally, I went outside to check it out.
No sooner had I stepped outside, I was hearing high pitched screeches and gunfire all around me. Bat-winged monsters were flying about, diving at single targets among an army of armored military forces. It was really awesome to see that, despite the scene looking like the initial attack of a monstrous or alien species against humanity, the humans were actually -winning-.
I went back inside, but instead went to the top floor of an apartment building to get a higher view of all the fighting. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the city's power was out, so I had to take the stairs instead of the elevator to get a higher view. (In hindsight, I did not realize that everything was pretty brightly lit for a building with no power)
By the time I got to the top of the building, almost all of the bat-things were shot down, and the military were just sweeping out to catch any stranglers. But then I saw in the distance a large shadow that was just coming over the horizon that pretty looked like a mix between Godzilla and Kraid from Metroid. So a fat Godzilla. This thing was Godzilla-huge as well, being a head taller than most of the 'skyscraper' buildings of the suddenly-metropolis-styled city. And it was moving -fast-.
In a matter of a single minute, it had reached the city's edge and starts just stomping the crap out of everything. I remember thinking, 'Ah, this is the boss phase where it gets closer block by block until it just destroys everything on screen. But how will it do that in a 3D environment?' To answer my unspoken video-gamey 4th wall question, it turned to the side a bit to stomp forward more, then turned again... basically looking like it was making a crop circle design among the city buildings. I silently rejoiced when it turned away from the building I was on, then was all nervous as hell when it walked towards my location. At one point, it ran over the buildings just across the street from me, the shock of its footsteps shattering all the windows in front of me.
So the military were having no effect on the new monster, so I went back downstairs to see what my friend was up to. She tells me that she's been hired by 'somebody helpful' to steal a quick item from one of the hospital's lobby shops. 'Sure,' I said, 'why the hell not?' Followed her through the streets, where there were all this destruction and corpses of bat-things and soldiers, but not actual civilians walking or running around.
We got to a storefront, which... somehow was accessable from the outside of the hospital... got in because the door was unlocked and everything was dark inside. 'Ah, the door was electronicly locked, so that's how we can get in, since the power is still out' was probably the only logic I needed (ignoring how the rest of the hospital rooms still had lights). Aaaaand it was also a jewelry store. Aaaaand the item that my friend was hired to steal was a diamond cutter. I don't know, I was only along for the ride.
We left the store, and my still-unrecognized friend mentioned something about leaving the city. I quickly said some lame one-liner that I think was like, 'If you ever want to leave, you'll still have to watch out for danger!'. During those last few words, our side of the street was suddenly covered with frost (I was on the sidewalk while she was on the street). I pushed her away and jumped back, just in time to dodge this... kind of suddenly materializing cubed 'train' of ice. Like, it came out of the frosted path on the street like a wave, 4ft wide and 4ft tall, slightly rounded corners. The weird ice attack keeps shooting forward like a speeding car, leaving behind the sidewards pillar of naturally melting ice. My friend thanks me for saving her life, I merely tip my wizard hat. Because... apparently I had a wizard hat.
BUT, that scene scared the hell out of me, despite trying to keep acting like a badass. After she climbed over the ice to get back on the sidewalk, I pulled her into a Walgreens to do some shopping. There were a few people in there, customers and employees, just waiting out this monster war like good little civilians. I go straight for the bargain rack and pull out all of the candy-things that were there. My friend started to ask if I was alright, and that's when I found tucked all the way in the back of the bottom shelf a freaking large bag of peanut M&Ms. And then I said I was good.
I went to go buy all this candy in order to get myself drunk off sugar, when I started to question myself why the bag of peanut M&Ms were in the dark brown bag instead of the yellow bag... which was when I yelled out, 'OH, CRAP! This is just a dream! I really wanted this candy!' Everybody looked at me like I was crazy... and -then- I woke up from the sheer embarrassed awkwardness that I wanted to just get away from.
Yeah, thanks brain.

Looking for opinions on a bit of game theory:

Game-wise, there's no real difference between an individual and a squad/ship. When communicating, you're speaking as one person (yourself or your squad's/ship's captain). When performing tasks, you're using abilities of a single 'entity' (yourself or your squad/ship).
But what about RP-wise? Does playing the role of something larger than a single individual take something away from the experience?

Stupid anxiety-rising dream...

I was working late at a job I've never had - a pizza place. After a long profitable day, it was just me, one other co-worker i didn't recognize, and the boss who was a strange combination of my dad and one of my old bosses (who ran a retail mailing/shipping business when not in dreams >>). I was running a few minutes late, but that's alright since there's lots of stuff to do.
A few minutes after closing, my brother William steps in to remind me of some plans we had, and a bunch of friends are waiting in the car. Oh, sweet, I got a ride waiting for me this time. Good stuff. I tell him it's just gonna be a few moments, he says alright, and ask the rhetorical question of '...how did you get in here?' I forgot to lock the front door... oh well, just one closing step out of order, no biggie.
And then I go to take the trash out. Along the way, my brother Walter is there for some reason with some friends, meeting me by pure coincidence. I say 'hi', tell them I'm busy, but we chat for just a few minutes before I go back to work. Delayed by only a little more... but my boss is starting to look a little upset, even though he's not saying anything. Walter even keeps on chatting with afterwards when I go back in the store, and he walks in the front door. I'd forgotten to lock it still and I have to chase him out to let me finish stuff.
Then I realize that I forgotten one bag of trash -somehow-. I grab that, practically run out back to toss it into the dumpster... on the way back, I notice that there are some freaky thick spider web strands besides the dumpster. Crap, ok, good thing I didn't touch it before. I turn around to go back to the store and there's this HUGE bridge of spiderwebs along the tops of two trees that I have to pass between to go back to the store, and the only reason I see these is because they're moving... there's an unseen spider of some huge size actively constructing it.
I go out of my way to get out of the way of the web bridge, but then I see the web break a little bit. Hey, it's stopped being worked on, so instead I'll just quickly run under it. When I go to run, a huge chunk of the web bridge snaps and the strands lazily floats down towards me. Crap, crap, crap, crap... a few of the strands actually hit me, and I have to seriously pull away to get free, tugging and moving the entire thing in my struggles. Even moved some tree branches from how sticky the stuff was. I actually had -one- more strand on me when I saw-but-not-really-saw something big and fast moving along that single taunt string of web, so I just ditch my jacket to get free and slam my way into the store.
When I get inside, I see my unknown co-worker and my boss just sitting there. I hastefuly ask what's left for the closing procedure, and thaaaat's when the boss gives me an 'Are you serious?' look. He begins to give me a serious talk about responsibilities, how I should be prioritizing time on the job and less with friends when there's still work to do, and yadda yadda, really tearing into me.
During the talk, my brother William peeks his head into the front door again to check if everything is alright. I -still- had forgotten to lock that damn front door, AND I see behind him that the sun is rising, shining light on the next day's customers.
I start to totally freak out, breaking a pair of expensive sunglasses that I apparently owned and wear at night (...?), having spent the entire night goofing off instead of getting the store closed up and being chased by giant spiders... which upon realizing how freaky that sounds, I woke up.

I'm sure the dream had a more proper setup, but the earliest thing I can remember is something about a cheerful fair in front of a spooky castle. But the fair's not important as what's happening inside the castle. The view pans closer and goes in through a window (hey, my dream's allowed to look like a movie sometimes, right?) and goes into a room that's all dark, save for a spotlit central area where... *cough*... there lays Fluttershy covered with greyish fleshy goop with red spots, something like this, except her head is still fully visible.
No, this is not going to end like you're thinking right now. Get your head out of the gutter. >>
Fluttershy looks to wake up when a voice calls out, and a strange person reveals himself but walking into the light. I honestly can't fully remember what this guy looks like, so let's say... he looks like this guy, except I specifically do remember that he had puffy dark purple eyelids, almost making his eyes look like mouths. Which is appropriate considering what's happening in a little bit.
So this guy walks into the light and starts babbling about what's happening to Fluttershy. That goop all over her is actually eating her body, but at the same time rebuilding it into something new. No longer will her body be like a machine, but more like a collection of living things, like how organisms should have been from the start. He rants about how beautiful it will be, and how righteous and lovely it is, and how he's already feeling the effects that he's done to himself.
One of his puffy purple eyeballs shifts a little, suddenly looking mostly the same but... somehow person-ized. The weird man coos and 'aww's, petting at his eyelid... only to have the purple thing laugh like a gremlin and pop out of his head with the obligatory over-the-top amount of blood. If this were to be a theater movie, it would also be the time they'd have something like this thing pop out at your face with another laugh, or a wink, or burp... whatever. This is the cue that causes all his other body parts to open eyeballs and mouths, then try to go their own way. Literally. The man screams in pain and panic while he's torn apart by his now-sentient-but-not-intelligent body parts and organs, leaving behind large splatters of blood and echos of creepy giggles throughout the empty castle.
Startled and experiencing an adrenalin-pumping case of 'WTF WAS THAT SHIT', Fluttershy rolls around until falling free of the fleshy, goopy cacoon. Somehow. Don't ask. She walks unsteadily to look for an exit to get help somehow, but it becomes too late. Her leg twitches on its own as little eyes and mouths appear on it, then the same with her wings, and her cheek. I remember the cheek, because that freaked me out the most >>
You can see her body pulling in different directions, causing her to shuffle about, but she starts trying to cry and plead with her...self. Her voice calms some of them down, but not all. So what does she do?
She starts to sing a song.
And one of those happy-go-lucky Disney style songs at that.
I'm not going to pretend that I remember all of what the song sounded like, but some of the lyrics were like...

General | Posted 14 years agoHad some quality time with my dad, showing him how games are turning better again with indie game developers on Steam. Then we did some web surfing for some super nostalgia attacks, remember such games like Wizardry, Master of Magic, and Star Control II.
So I showed him where to get DOSBox (DOS emulator), and a site for old DOS games. I'm thinking he's gonna be busy for the next few days just looking up the good old games XP

General | Posted 14 years agoWell... apparently my laptop was just suffering from a computer flu, but today got over it. It's not overheating anymore =D
This is, like... as in... umm... I have no clue -how- it got fixed, seeing that I didn't really even -do- anything to fix it in the last couple days. Now I can spend hours upon hours playing LoL @.@

General | Posted 14 years agoWeeeell... laptop still having heating problems.
Not nearly as bad as the start of the week, but still worse than when I first came to Vegas. It'll just mean I have to limit my non-gaming computer usage by a bit, and my computer gaming by a -lot-. I'm sure it's mostly because it misses the cold air of Washington XP
