Komickrazi Studios Status - Covid-19
Posted 5 years agoHey all, I just wanted to reach out to everyone to give people a studio status update on our current crazy world situation.
I am very fortunate; my studio is set up in my home so as long as I have supplies I can continue working during this pandemic. As I work on a running queue, I have a long line of customers and projects to work on. I don't expect I will require any emergency funds if these extreme measures of self isolation and non-essential service closures extend into weeks or months; between my husband and myself we have savings we can dip into as needed.
I know these are trying times for a lot of people, so I completely understand if customers need extra time to gather funds to pay for commission work. If you require to be put on hold to budget for more essential needs just send me an email to let me know. I don't expect anyone to feel obligated to prioritize food or rent over a costume commission.
Delaying commissions and bumping up others to fill their space may screw up my queue list a little. I don't expect this shuffling will alter required deadlines too much, but it may mean I am contacting you sooner than planned if those ahead of you need some time to get their finances in order.
Although I am in no dire straits at this moment, I will also mention I do have a Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/komickrazi ) and a ko-fi (https://ko-fi.com/komickrazistudios). If you like what I do and want to send me a few bucks, I would greatly appreciate it. And if you are already a patron and need to cancel for financial reasons, please do. There are no hard feelings for those who need to take a step back from their generosity and focus on their own needs.
Thank you everyone :3 Stay healthy!

Why I wasn't at FC
Posted 6 years agoSo, if you've been following my twitter, you already know... but I missed FC this year. T_T
I was super excited to go; I had panels to run and art for the art show... I had made plans with friends and photoshoots booked. Either way, I did not attend.
Halfway through my flight I got sick. My plane was delayed on my layover, and during the course of the layover my stomach decided it wanted to try gymnastics. First the nausea hit, then I was throwing up, then I was lying on the airport floor shivering and wondering what the heck I was doing.... this is stupid.... I should just go home. So I did.
I rebooked a flight back home and spent the night in a nearby hotel, then flew home the next day - my paws didn't even touch the ground in San Jose.
I won't go into detail of my night in sickness limbo... but lets just say it's probably the worst feeling in the world to be sick in an airport - you can't go home and you can't lie down properly and you're not even sure if you can make it to the nearest bathroom. D:
I spent my weekend contacting people to cancel plans and apologize between sleeping and rehydrating myself. I am feeling a million times better, so no worries there. But, if you were hoping to run into me at FC I am really really sorry - I looked and felt like death, and I didn't want to be that horrible patient Zero who gets the rest of the con sick.
I still have plans to attend Fur-eh and Anthrocon and Dragoncon. So if you missed me at FC, perhaps we will meet some other time. When in doubt, there is always next year!

Komickrazi Fursuit count!
Posted 7 years agoFor a long time it bugged me that I never took the time to keep a running tally of all the fursuits I have made over the years. Finally I decided to take some time and actually COUNT my works to see just how many critters I have under my belt.
Whelp! The results are in!
To this date I have made:
225 Fullsuits
60 Partials
35 Heads
To a total of 321 furry creations 🙀 This total includes commissions, premades and personal suits.
Woooo! only 179 more to go before I can celebrate an even 500 ^_^;;;;;

Looking for your Komickrazi Fursuit photos!
Posted 7 years agoI am trying to post photos once a week of some of my creations to give a spotlight to past Komickrazi creations. Once I complete the costumes I often never see them again T_T I want to show off the other side of Komickrazi studios - mainly my customers enjoying their costumes as they were meant to be seen... not just a poorly fitting photo of me in a commission with a boring backdrop.
Do you have a Komickrazi fursuit you would like to be featured on my twitter/instragram/tumblr/patreon? If so, please read on....
I am looking for 1-4 photos of your fursuit out and about and doing what you do best ^_^ Preference will be given to photos with no other people or fursuits in them, and preferably with no visible con badges showing.
I am happy to link to your twitter/instagram accounts if you request, and will credit photographers if the information is provided to me.
Photos can be linked to me via note, or emailed to me at devon(at)komickrazi.com
Thank you so much! I look forward to seeing some of your great photos!

Komickrazi Studios Commission Queue is open!
Posted 8 years agoThat's right! I am finally open to accepting new commissions. Please check out my webpage for more information: www.komickrazi.com
Komickrazi Studios Queue Reopening! - December 1st
Posted 8 years agoYay! It's finally happening, I will be reopening my queue in a few weeks!
Mark your calendars! December 1st, I will be reopening my queue for new commissions :D
What you need to know... Details below:
OMG, about darn time! How can I submit a quote request?
Please visit my webpage for commission information: http://komickrazi.com/commissions.php
Please ensure a SINGLE reference sheet is included with your commission quote request. Reference sheet should show EXACTLY what your character looks like (including correct colors and markings), and shows the ENTIRE character.
When will you begin work on my costume?
There are currently 22 people on my queue at this time, so I will NOT begin working on your costume right away. My queue will be for a late spring/early Summer start time.
OH NO! I don't know if I will be able to get a quote request in fast enough, how will I ever get a spot?
I do not like to open and close my queue over and over. Personal reasons forced me to close my queue originally, but I am in a much better position currently and I do not plan on closing my queue again any time soon. There is no rush! If you cannot get a quote request in right away, don't worry! you may send in a quote request at a later date and I should still be open.
Hey now, I am already on your queue and waiting patiently for my turn. Will this Queue opening affect me in any way?
Nope, I will continue to work on costumes in my queue in the order listed, which can be viewed at ANY TIME on my webpage: www.komickrazi.com (just scroll down to the bottom).
Any NEW commissions will be added to the bottom of the list and they will have to wait for their turn just as you did.

Life has gotten so much better
Posted 8 years agoHey everyone!
Well, It's finally happened! ALL of my cats are now cured of the dreaded Ringworm, and my life can finally start turning back to normal. :3
It's been a long 6 month struggle, and I honestly think I could write a few instruction manuals on dealing with ringworm now (I know I schooled my vet a few times from reading research papers she obviously never did ¬_¬)
Anywho, now that that chaos is behind me, this means a few changes. I am no longer having to treat my kittens, clean my house every day, or feel too paranoid about spores, or saddened by my state of affairs. So finally, I am getting back to work in my studio :D :D :D
I have had a full day back in my studio today and I was a refreshing treat or normalcy that I really needed.
With all that behind me, I will mostly likely be opening my queue again soon. How soon? I do NOT have a definitive date just yet, but my goal is for some time in November. Please allow me a few weeks to get back to a regular work schedule and I shall make an announcement shortly regarding my queue reopening.
Thank you so much to everyone for their support during these last 6 months. Your kind words and encouragement really helped me through this.

Komickrazi Studios - information regarding work delays
Posted 8 years agoJust wanted to give everyone an update on my current situation:
If you have read my previous journals, you know the last few months for me have been.... hectic.
I closed my queue for the first time ever to give myself more structure in my life; decreasing my work hours and increasing my ME time so I don't burn out.
Shortly after closing my queue I got two kittens, which I had been very much looking forward to. However only a week after receiving the kittens, I discovered they both had ringworm and my breeder was very unsympathetic to my situation. For those unfamiliar, Ringworm is a fungus (athlete's foot and jock itch are a type of ringworm), though unsightly it is not life threatening, but it is slow to cure. I took on a regimen of treating my kittens and cleaning my house to reduce the chance of reinfection and ensuring I do not pass on any spores to my customers. I hoped with enough gumption and elbow grease, I would nip this ringworm in the bud and be free and clear to return to a steady work/life balance and enjoy my kittens like I planned.
Well, as of writing this I am almost 5 months along and still fighting this ringworm battle. Despite all efforts, the ringworm just doesn't want to go away. Putting all my efforts into this fruitless battle has pretty much nullified the whole intention of taking a break and closing my work queue. Now I am disheartened and depressed.
I cry a lot and I have lost motivation to do much of anything. This ringworm has made me isolated, because no one wants to visit my infected home... and when I am invited out I don't really want to go because any effort seems like too much work.
My husband has been a real support to me. He has forced me to make some changes and I am trying very hard to work past this. Work is slow, but I am trying to get into my studio for at least a few hours a day. I appreciate the understanding and patience of my customers while I get over this hump.
I want to ensure all my customers are informed to my situation, and again I am MORE than willing to offer FULL refunds to anyone who no longer wishes to remain on my queue if they find the current delays are unreasonable.

Komickrazi Studios update!
Posted 8 years agoI have been sort of quiet over the last few months, and I just wanted to update everyone on my current status.
As you may have seen from my photos; I am indeed still working, however a little bit slower and a little less active online. In an earlier post I had mentioned closing my queue for a time. This was to get me focused on my current workload without overwhelming myself with new projects. I chose to slow down a little and ensure more ME time (including taking off evenings and weekends and having a social life). I also mentioned getting a pair of sweet kittens way back in May.
Well, my plans to work quietly away and enjoy my kittens for the summer didn't quite turn out as planned. Both of my kittens were exposed to and caught Ringworm from my breeder D:
For those who aren't familiar, Ringworm is not a worm or a parasite, but in fact a fungus (Jock itch and athlete's foot are also types of ringworm). It grows slow and cures slow. Although my kittens are not in any real health danger, it did ruin (and continues to ruin), the last 3 months of my life :E
Due to how easily ringworm spores spread and how virulent they are, I had to quarantine my babies to one area of the house, then proceed to disinfect EVERYTHING. My studio was the largest concern, since I wouldn't wish Ringworm on my worst enemy.... so I had to shut down entirely for a full week to ensure my studio was fully cleaned and disinfected.
At this point ONE of the kittens is cured, but the other still has ringworm on his face. They also spread it to my senior cat, who is also still not cured. My current life is spent treating all my fur babies with oral meds, medicated soaps and creams, cleaning my house and doing laundry. Treating the ringworm is only one step as I must also treat the environment so they don't get re-infected. Although I had planned for a slowdown to enjoy my kittens, this ringworm is just another added blow to my work schedule. The fight to get rid of this seems to drag on and on, and aside from the extra work cutting into my studio time, it also zaps a lot of motivation.
I am still plugging along, and will continue to do so. I had planned to reopen my queue in the Fall, however I have no set date yet since I am too focused on my kittens right now to think farther ahead than week to week. I will make an announcement closer to when I plan to reopen to give people plenty of notice. In the meantime, if you are feeling starved for more updates I do post a lot of WIP photos on my twitter: https://twitter.com/Komickrazi
Thank you everyone for your continued understanding regarding my situation. I'm really really tired of all these troubles, but I can't do much besides taking it day-by-day. I appreciate everyone's continued support in the meantime.

Home from Furlandia
Posted 8 years agoWow! What a trip!
I was fortunate to be invited as a Guest of Honor at Furlandia this year in Portland. It was a wonderful con experience and I would like to thank all of the staff at the con who made me feel welcome and treated me so well.
Furlandia is a newer con, but they managed 975 attendees this year! I found the size to be just lovely. Small enough to be intimate and large enough that I was never bored. I was able to walk around and chat with people and meet many new faces.
I hope very much to visit Portland again in the future. I expect this con to last a long time and hope more and more people attend in the coming years.
So, to everyone who attended Furlandia, and everyone who worked hard to make the con a reality. Thank you so very much!

The best kinds of delays
Posted 8 years agoA few weeks ago I picked up my new sweet kittens from my breeder. I have two new babies - Gideon and Pippin - who are wild and crazy, but absolutely adorable. >_<
Not surprising, the kitten chaos has had a big impact on my ability to work in my studio as they get acclimatized to their new house and my work schedule. Right now I've only been working at maybe 80%... It's only been 2 and a half weeks, so once we all get used to each other I will be back to work 100% asap.
Until then I have litter to scoop, toys to dangle and bellies to rub (not necessarily in that order).

Komickrazi Studios status - taking a much needed break
Posted 8 years agoI have always worked on a queue system which has allowed me to remain open to new commissions by maintaining a running queue list. This queue allows me to stay open to new commissions instead of repeatedly opening and closing my commission list as projects are completed. I have been pretty good at maintaining my queue to give me time to work on each commission and keep a steady pace.
For various reasons I have found myself struggling a little to keep my head above water. Between my work and personal life I have found myself a little overwhelmed. Some commissions have been taking a little longer than I like and I haven't had a break in months. I often spend my evenings and weekends working instead of having any sort of social life. I like sewing and I love making costumes, but in the end I am not a machine and I think the best things for me would be to slow it down a little.
What does this mean for you?
For new potential customers it means I will be closing my queue for a short time to work on my current commission list and get myself back on track. I hope to not remain closed for a significant period of time, but I would rather not take on new work at this time and just focus on my current load. I will announce when I am ready to re-open to take new commissions on a regular basis.
For customers currently on my queue it means a possible slow-down. I will keep working as best as I can, but ensuring I focus on taking breaks (having evenings and weekends away from my studio, and socializing with neglected friends and family). By focusing on my current workload I hope that there won't be any delays at all - I will keep working and your suit will be delivered as promised on or around it's set deadline. If there are delays in your costume completion I will do my best to maintain communication with you regarding my work. I would rather have costumes made well and not at the cost of me or my health. If this is unacceptable for you, please let me know: you may cancel your commission with me and I will refund you any payments you have made including your non-refundable deposit.
Thank you very much for your understanding! If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask!
