Commission Price Adjustments
General | Posted 7 years agoThe next time I take on commissions, I will be increasing my price for Full Colour commissions. Cel shaded and other prices will remain the same.
When I first started charging for "full colour", it was honestly not very much work. I wasn't doing coloured lines or even much in the way of extra shading. But the techniques I have now take up more time than the rest of the drawing process combined. Basically for the 7 extra dollars I charge for full colour I have to work an additional 1.5 to 2 hours on a standard drawing.
So I hope anybody who's been wanting to get a commission understands why this option will become more expensive the next time I open. If you don't want all the bells and whistles, the cel shaded option will still be available.
I apologize to anybody who's disappointed.

Streaming Commissions and the Fate of Dissonance
General | Posted 8 years agoTwo topics to cover today. First is streaming. To encourage me to tackle commissions in a timely fashion, I am going to set up a regular weekly streaming session where I will be drawing the commissions I have currently booked. That time will be Tuesday at 3pm Eastern Time, And you can find me at https://picarto.tv/raevix
I encourage you to attend, especially if you have booked a commission, because I will try to give priority to those who can attend stream.
Also: If I have booked a commission for you, and you cannot make this tuesday time, please contact me and I will attempt to arrange for you a private streaming session at a time that is more convenient for you.
And on to the other topic: Dissonance has been on hiatus for a while now, mostly because I've found myself unable to muster the ambition to draw it. I've been writing for it at least every week, but when it comes down to putting pen to paper I find myself... lacking the motivation. And I think I may have figured out why at long last.
The problem with Dissonance is... I wish I could change things that are far too late to change. Since I started drawing Dissonance, there have been many changes to my planned story both minor and major, and the comic kind of ground to a halt when I realised I was not happy with the ending to the story anymore. I rewrote almost the entire second half of the comic to try to solve this problem, but it left a lot of lingering story threads in what I had already drawn that no longer worked, and worst yet a major character would basically only be appearing in the second half of the comic. Because of this I've constantly felt myself wishing I could go back and rewrite some of what I already wrote to fit the new ending better and... I can't do that. It would be too jarring and confusing for the readers.
This means that for the time being... I'm going to discontinue Dissonance.
I may pick it up again in the future, if I can find a way to reconcile my issues with the plot, but I don't know when that will be. I've learned a lot about writing and drawing a webcomic from Dissonance, and I don't consider this a failure. I am disappointed, as I'm sure many of you are too, but I'm going to take what I've learned and start work on the project I had always planned after Dissonance's conclusion. Once I have my commissions cleaned up, I will begin work on a story I have been working on called Recursion.
I will also be using the tuesday stream to work on Recursion following the completion of this commission batch. I will not likely be working on full comics just yet, but start with character designs and practice some on-theme art to make sure I know what I'm getting into. I'm excited to start work on it, and I hope you enjoy the new concept. I apologize to all the Dissonance fans out there. But when it comes down to it, I know you'll enjoy Recursion updates more than Dissonance non-updates.

I apologize for yesterday.
General | Posted 9 years agoFirst I want to say that there are many points I seriously considered taking yesterday's journal down. This is an art page, and people come to my gallery to see colourful fuzzy boobs, not to get an earful on ethics bordering on politics. However, whatever damage that journal is going to do is done. And it still represents one of my core beliefs in that people should discuss ethics openly without deception. And for that reason, I'm going to leave it up. If I were to take it down it would only make me a hypocrite for hiding my own ethical beliefs.
That said, I will try to refrain from discussing political hot buttons here in the future. My goal was not to incite drama or encourage conflict. However in retrospect it seems pretty obvious that I did just that.
So I'm sorry. This account will remain as people expect it to be. Full of boobies and cute. That journal will remain for anybody who wishes to read it, but I'll find a better outlet for such thoughts in the future.

Stop lying to yourself and others
General | Posted 9 years agoSomething in the paper today pushed me over the edge into this rant. So I apologize for getting slightly political but here it goes.
Respect yourself and others enough to say the truth. If you lie or construct weak or rhetoric heavy arguments to coerce people to agree with you, you are not just showing disrespect, you are circumventing democracy. Don't participate in rationalized ethics.
Take for example the passage that drove me to this. The argument was presented to me that banning abortions was in the interest of helping women because women feel pressured to have abortions and then regret the decision later. While I am not going to weigh in on the actual ethics of abortion, I found this argument insulting and weak and is a clear example of the rationalized ethics I am talking about.
This is such a weak argument I almost don't feel obligated to dissect it, but here goes: Even if the premises are true and women feel pressured into abortions AND some women regret abortions, the conclusion that abortions should be outlawed does not follow. If pressuring women into a decision is bad, then FORCING women into a decision should be worse. If you are concerned women might make uninformed decisions, then the correct response is education so they can make their own informed decision.
Of course, this argument is not posed by people who believe it. They believe abortion is bad for other reasons and have constructed this flimsy defense because they know if they state their true opinion, they!ll get backlash. "A fetùs's right to live is more valuable than a woman's right over her body and women who want abortions are selfish murderers"
This is the real argument, but nobody will say it. And let me be frank:
If you cannot state your values that guide your ethical decision making, you may need to rethink your values.
Democracy is founded on the idea that everyone is intelligent enough to make their own decisions. When you lie or construct weak arguments to trick people into siding with your values, you are disrespecting them. You are either being selfish or you do not believe them intelligent enough to understand your true values. If your values are just, your heart open, there is no need to lie. Let people decide for themselves and respect them if the majority does not agree with you.
Don't participate in rationized ethics. Especially if you have to tell those rationalizations to yourself
