General rambling
Posted 18 years agoBah, been kind of having one of those weekends. It's been hot and muggy, and I've had no ambition to really do anything productive. I SHOULD have been working on Red's commission, even did that pic for Wolfmonkey hoping to get me over that bit of a hump (you know how it is, sometimes you finish one piece still in the mood to draw so you scream right into another project) but no dice.
My side project I had been working on was another comic trial. I said from the start it's to see if it was worthwhile to even give it a shot, but it quickly became evident that it wasn't. I'm at the point now that with a LITTLE more practice in coloring quickly I would be very happy with the results if I were to try doing a comic, but no matter how I cut it as a one person operation it just takes much too long. Hell, as a three person operation it would take longer than I'm willing to take away from other art projects at this time. Oh well, I'll give it another shot in another year and see where I am at. Good news though is the line art I got out of it turned into a really nice piece I will try to sell at MFF, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
So as is after I admit one project is a failure (for the time being), I just have no inspiration for another to start or to finish what I am on. I'll find some eventually, I know it, but for right now, meh.
(Major tip: this is NOT the time to ask for free art. I know what I'm drawing next, it does not involve you - except you, you know who you are, it DOES involve you - and no guilt trips, whining, or begging is going to change my mind. Not sorry because I feel like being blunt! :D )
Anyone got any new tips for getting out of the artsy-fartsy doldrums? Or got a decent game to recommend so I can brain dump for a week or two? I don't want to resubscribe to WoW because I know if I do I'll NEVER draw for months. And please think bargain bin, I'm still setting aside money for MFF. ;)

So if we're going to do an image meme . . . .
Posted 18 years ago . . . lets do something fun.
Pick your favorie comic, and put your character in it in the comic's style.
The rules:
No just posting your favorite comic.
If you want to trace the basic lines to make it more recognizable as "yes it is definitely supposed to be "this" "go for it, but the end result has to be distinctly YOUR CHARACTER, you have to do the vast majority of the image yourself (changes, coloring, new background, etc), and you have to give credit to the original artist. No opening a comic panel, sticking wings on garfield that you cut out of another pic, and saying "har har like um . . . yeah, this took effort, it's me". No go.
Be polite to the site. Don't flood your subs.

The Character Meme and ask TENSIK anything!
Posted 18 years agoLifted from
foxamoore with an adjustment: here's the meme, and you can ask my CHARACTER (not me!) anything. I'll answer as such.
1. What is your character's name?
Tensik D'Kaman
2. What is your character's name in another language?
Tensik means "to organize" in Turkish. I had no intention of naming him Tensik for that reason though.
3. How old is he/she?
24
4. What is your character's race/species?
Half lion, half dragon. The only "dragon" that comes through is his oddly colored mane. At least for now.
5. Do they have a crush?
Yep!
6. Do they have many friends?
Many aquaintances, very few friends.
7. What planet is your character from?
A parallel Earth, born in the Caribbean
8. Does your character like to eat?

9. What's his/sher favorite food?
Fish, red meat . . . snacks found in the garden . . . .
10: What's his/her favorite drink?
Water. Oh booze . . . um, anything with Kaluha
11. Is your character annoying?

14. Is your character hated?
If he is I haven't been told, but I'm sure someone out there doesn't like him.
15. Is he/she emo/goth?
He's pretty chronically happy, but he can be "emotional". Not emo, though.
16. Is he/she straight, bisexual, or gay?
Gay
17. Is he/she a virgin?
Oh hell, no.
18. Name 3 hobbies
Spending one on one time with friends and his brother, art, daydreaming
19. Is your character normal?
BAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

22. Does your character have other forms?
Not that he knows of . . . .
23. Does your character overreact?
YEP!
24. Is your charcter a criminal?

Ask me anything!
Posted 18 years agoTechnically I am still on vacation from here, but MAN I'm getting a ton of work done. My auction piece for MFF is almost done (it needs an addition from someone else that I need to work around before I can REALLY finish it, but I should be getting it back to finish within a month), and 1 of 3 art show pieces is almost done for MFF as well. Red's pic is in the final stages and I may - MAY - finish it this weekend. Other artwork projects are going fine, getting in some OT at work,
foxamoore is still awesome (extra plug for the guy because he's so close to 1000 watchers right now and I want him to bump over!) and all that. Thanks to everyone new and sorry if I didn't get a chance to thank you for the watch, look through your galleries, or say much, usually I'm INSANELY chatty around here but in gearing up for my first con, as Wolfmonkey would say, I'm a bit sparse.
But here in the US of A it is almost Labor Day weekend, so, I'll have a few extra minutes to hang around! Ask me anything, I'll do my best to answer as honestly as I can . . . or dare. :D

Gogogogogogogogogogo!
And don't forget, he takes commissions, too. :D

General Updates
Posted 18 years agoI'm still technically on vacation, though I've been spending a little more time here as some people have needed help and I've needed some help myself. It's been a pretty depressing week, to tell you the truth. I have the problem on Red's commission SORT OF fixed - the people who suggested flattening the image, it worked, but if I have to stick with the solution it will sort of screw me for a lot of my technique later on in this pic. Not sure how it will turn out now, and I still have a good month of work to go on it, or more. I've put it on hold over the weekend though and ordered some CS2 books to see if I can find the answers in there. I needed them anyway, because there's a lot of really simple basic things that I have no idea how to do, if they are an option, what you'd even call them to read about it in the help guildes, etc.
Other people's money problems is getting me down, too. One extremely dear friend just lost the job that he just got less than two months ago that kept him from going homeless and how he's got an emergency trek cross-country to somewhere without internet for about half a year. Someone else I am very close to got incredibly ill this week and had to take time out from work he couldn't afford, never mind the medication. Someone else owes a ton of money for schooling, and may not be able to finish even though I can think of no person more deserving of an education than he. Another has given of himself to so many people that he is in tight times and he gets nothing for it. Another has someone calling in on imaginary debts. These people don't deserve this crap. I know that everyone would like to say they deserve a break every once in a while so that they can have things a little easier, but there's a lot of folks who need a break so that they can eat, or pay essential bills like electricity, or have a roof over their heads.
Yet its these same truely broke people who are always the first to hand out money or help to those who claim they need something. *shakes head*
Anywhoo. Glad you all liked Agape and Javier . . . Agape's player just keeps feeding this ol' brain ideas, the RP is great, and there will be a lot more art of them on the way. I know I haven't been posting anything adult, but that's because all my adult drawing time is tied up in Red's pic - after that, expect a good influx of old fashioned porn. Especially some Tensik porn, the poor lion hasn't gotten any in almost a year! I've got a lot of Dark Tensik stuff I want to do too, and everything I have to get finished for MFF (are we supposed to receive confirmation on our panel orders? I sent a check for 3 but haven't heard anything . . . . ), as well as finish the Tensik suit and *cough* drop a few pounds before the con. At this point I'm wondering if I will actually open up any commission slots at the beginning of 2008 or not . . . I've got a sideline project I've been working on under the table that NO ONE knows about yet and if it works, I might ask someone else if I can do a little work for them in that time period instead, because he's had some trouble keeping help. Chances of that happening . . . oh, about 5%. Either way its good practice and I'm looking forward to showing it off when its either done or I give up on it.
Looks like the Wolfmonkey/Tensik/Red roadtrip is going to be shifting gears to another part of the country. We'll send the hunky monkey back to New Zealand a redneck if it kills us, at this rate. :D
Thanks to watchers and favs, appologies to anyone who I've missed as I don't check this a lot right now, and you'll see a lot more of me when the massive commission is done. At least right now I can honestly say IT IS ALMOST DONE. I have foreground details to do only. A LOT of foreground details, but . . . *nods* The time has been worth it. :)
I'll see you all soon.

Photoshop Assistance, Please!
Posted 18 years agoPleasepleasepleasepleaseplease!
Here's what's happening: I'm working with a pic I'm doing with several (dozen) layers. I need to now merge a large group of these layers, which have several different layer types. So going down the list the layers may be
Normal 100% Opacity
Soft Light 75%
Color Burn 25%
Normal 100%
Color Dodge 80%
Normal 100%
Color Burn 100%
Normal 100%
Pin Light 15%
etc.
When I merge the layers, all those settings for each layer default to whatever the layer I am merging it to is set at, so if I merge it to a Normal layer at 100% ALL the layer qualities shift to normal 100% before merging. If I merge to a color Burn setting layer they ALL switch to that setting. Needless to say this ruins my pic. It didn't used to do this, and I have NO idea what I did to change the settings, or how to stop it from changing the layer qualities when I merge now.
If anyone can offer any assistance I am at my wits end . . . 6 months into a pic with at least a month more to go and now it's sitting in such a state that it can never be finished. :/

Taking a little vaca
Posted 18 years agoI was talking to my Dragon this morning (okay, it's really my brother's Dragon, but he's family so he's still part mine), exhausted and feeling very lousy, completely unable to concentrate on the conversation and dozing off there on the phone. He said he wasn't surprised considering how hard I had been pushing myself.
After I hung up I came out here to the PC, sat down, and went to try to reply to even more journals, comments, PM's and everything that had piled up, told myself I had to also go check the forums because the staff was being idiots again and I hadn't had time to check on something rather important since before my birthday, and also had to go check e-mail, all in 45 minutes because I was supposed to meet someone for lunch . . . promptly got sick, cancelled my lunch, lay down on the couch, and fell asleep again to the second season of the Muppet Show.
My Dragon was right, I've been pushing myself much to hard, so just in case anyone is looking for me, I'm walking away from here for a week or so (more or less) as part of eliminating stuff I don't NEED to do, so I can concentrate on what I do and still have free time. I'll check in once a day and just look at my PM count so if you REALLY REALLY NEED ME, I will get messages that way. But if you shout or comment, I won't see it, and it'll likely get nuked when I come back.
My bro, my dragon, my tigey, my hunky-monkey, and my dinner partner all know where to find me still; that's not changing, guys. :) Also the folks with my tel# shouldn't be afraid to use it.
Everyone else, thanks for the favs and watches and everything else that I have been grossly, grossly remiss in keeping up on, but by taking a break and getting everything else finished I'll have more time in the future to . . . well, not ignore people. You all know how much I hate that. :( And I shall return with art!

*squee* Happy Birthday to MEEEE!
Posted 18 years agoOkay, my birthday is not until tomorrow, but I just got a massively awesome birthday present that I (nor my husband or daughter) was not expecting. Yeah, I kind of got it for myself. XD
My personal idols are people who put forth their best efforts just to make people's days a little brighter. Jim Henson is on the top of my list, of course. Carol Spinney, the performer of Big Bird and Oscar, is very, very high up there as well. Also on the list is Alice Cooper (dark happy, but still gives it his all, and with his life history he's definitely someone to look up to).
And I just got tickets to see Weird Al at the end of the month.
Anyone who makes it their life mission to make people LAUGH is a good person in my book, and he's one of the best. I can't wait!!! My daughter is thrilled too, "The Saga Begins" is her favorite song and I can't think of a better first concert for her. :D
*wanders off to work singing "A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far away, Naboo was under an attack . . . . "*

Yay for 10k!!!
Posted 18 years agoThank you everyone! Phantomgraph and Saraya were 9999 and 10,000, but since they're in the same home I think I'll just have to do something for both of them! :D
Thanks to everyone who has given a few seconds to look through a new fur's work over the past year and a half. It's really pretty mind-blowing, to be honest.
Um . . . kind of without words right now so . . . yeah, I know, me, speechless.

Posted 18 years agoI have them too, it happens.
To clarify, now that it isn't 4 AM, I never in a million years expected the whole world to come flocking. I'm a very business-minded person, and I'm not thick enough to think that I'm any different than any other third-rate artist here. My honest estimate? That I would come home to 5 sold, probably between 2 people. After the charity donations I figured I could put that toward 20 more prints and I'd be not far off from the small stock I wanted to bring to MFF, and the ones that sold would be the ones I'd bring a few more of since they would be the ones with the most interest. I already dumped what to me was a small fortune into the test runs, and I'd told my self I wouldn't buy any more as stock unless it financed itself. I know it doesn't sound like buying a few prints at cost to see how they go would be a huge dent in anyone's pocket, especially at cost, but unfortunately we're one of those families where every penny counts so I have to be careful, and I recently made a big purchase that I shouldn't have so things are tighter still. (I should have, but I shouldn't have.)
So that's where all that came from. To those who had kind words of support, thanks for being there, and especially to Dineegla who tried so hard and was there on the phone with me this evening. Though I don't know how long I'll bother keeping a print listing up - I'll try it out on my site when I get a chance to update it but if it doesn't do anything it's just not worth the time for me - it's hard to keep this lion down for long. I'm sure something will come up.

Wise Words from Unca Red (If the fandom gets you down, read
Posted 18 years agoAs maybe some of you read, finally, after a year of getting my hopes up, being disappointed, and holding my breath for nothing time and again, finally, FINALLY, my art became prints. All of it, even the cocks. You guys have NO idea how elated I was to finally be able to post that after having to turn people away for so long FINALLY I had prints to offer, because I had felt like absolute crap having to say no, you can't buy a copy, or sorry, I simply can't charge $20 for 150 hours worth of work. I was PSYCHED.
I came home tonight, and nothing. I would have been happy with one picture, just one, finally being purchased, knowing that just ONE person out there actually thought I was good enough. And I was heartbroken. Crushed. A year of waiting and hoping for nothing. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours of work wasn't even worth a measly $8 to anyone. And it made me wonder (still does) if I should bother bringing anything to MFF at all, because simply put I can't afford the inventory if there is no interest.
I cried in Red Swampwulf's neckruff for a good hour. Thank the Goddess he had the night off finally. Then this came up as we were talking about musicians, and it just put everything into focus . . . be sure you watch the video.
red: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy.....040401721.html
red: I'm tempted to put up a journal about this.
red: It says *so* many things that I can't *quite* put into words.
tensik: *watches*
red: It's all about perspective, and value.
tensik: That's sad . . . . .
red: No, it's *truth*.
So if you've ever been down, thinking you're not good enough, and that people pass you by because you're a musician, or a writer, or whatever reason, just keep that in mind.
Our efforts are not to blame if people close their ears and their eyes.

That's right, take it all, baby!!! YEP, PRINTS!
Posted 18 years agoThe town printers will take anything I can throw at them.
WOOHOO!!!!!
Unfortunately my second run didn't go so well on tests, but it had a lot of older pieces that I didn't know what I was doing yet. So that's not terribly surprising that old works ended up printing poorly. Anyway, WOOHOO!!!!!!
So, at very long last, I can officially say . . . . prints are now available.
Cost per print is $8 for an 8x10 or 8.5 x 11 (your choice), prints are on heavy-duty 10 point (but if you have a paper preference let me know), s/h is $3 for the first 3 in the same envelope, $2 per pack of three after in the US. Larger or smaller sizes available upon request with separate quotes. And, as intended, a portion of each print goes to charity. Which one will depend on the print, as will the amount (some pics were made for charity, some for fun but some good should come from it). If it's an adult print I won't publically say which one is getting the money because I don't want anyone contacting them to say "hey, someone's selling PORN to give you donations!" But I will put a quarterly report of sorts on my site so that people can check it.
So here is what will be available, and what they will benefit:
True Love Never Dies: http://www.tensik.com/Trueloveneverdies.html $3 of every print will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation http://www.ejaf.org/
Midnight's Sonnet: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/678910/ $3 of every print will go to
foxamoore 's charity of choice, the National Fox Welfare Society http://www.nfws.org.uk/
Road Trip: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/591421/ $1 of every print will go to the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona http://www.azrt66.com/index.htm
Yes, Big Brother?: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/255970/ $1 of every print will go to the Earth Island Institute http://www.earthisland.org/
Lessons Learned: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/581597/ $1 of every print will go to the Radio Astronomy Institute http://www.radioai.org/
Land Ho: http://www.tensik.com/Landho.html $1 of every print will go to the Institute of Nautical Archaeology http://ina.tamu.edu/
Gutterpunk: Loading: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/437682/ $1 of every print will go to a domestic abuse shelter in New England
The Wall: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/435927/ $1 of every print will go to a castle preservation society
Wolfmonkey II: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/421300/ $1 of every print will go to a wildlife and sciences society
If there was one that you REALLY wanted that is not listed, let me know; as I said, some transferred to print terribly and just shouldn't be sold, others I either don't have permission to offer or I shouldn't ask because they were gifts to other people, or I just did not think there would be interest.
I'll be getting purchase info up on my site soon, and I'll be bringing these to MFF, but in the meantime if anyone wants to get a jomp on it or place a special size order PM me here. Money order, checks (has to clear before I ship) and Paypal accepted.

Print size poll, feedback needed
Posted 18 years agoI was sitting here bagging up the first run of prints and instantly realized something that didn't click when I had a handful of them without a basis of comparison . . . the printers made them all the wrong size!!! I ordered 8.5 x 11 and they ran 8 x 10's.
It got me thinking though . . . what do people prefer? 8.5 x 11 so that they fill a binder nicely? Or 8 x 10 so that they frame easily without buying custom mats? do you prefer one size for G-work that might be hung or are there folks that proudly match the mat for their porn to their bedspread? :D I know most people run 8.5 x 11's because their only other option is photographic paper which may not have the best results, but as trim is no biggie in this case, I can go with whatever size fits people's needs best on the same paper.

Print proofs and wish me luck!
Posted 18 years agoAs I stated in my last journal, I had some of my art out at the local printers to get proofed for sale. I'd brought down just the clean stuff, and the proofs - 8.5x11 and 11x14 - came out GORGEOUS. So I placed an order for 10 each of a couple of them to start building some stock so I'd have SOMETHING to bring to MFF. While I was placing the order the girl at the counter said "do you think they will sell well?" and I said "I hope so, but it's hard to tell. You guys only got the clean files and it's the other ones people have the most interest in, hahaha". The girl laughed and that was that.
So today I go to pick up the first run and the staff is sitting there grinning HUGE at me. And one of them, a woman I've worked with before on other projects, says "So when are you bringing in the rest of the files?" I stressed to her that what I'd bring in is ADULT, and they may not want to handle it. She said she honestly didn't think the boss would care (and she'd know, no doubt about that, he's a younger guy with Darth Vader all over his office), but she'd show him the proofs for final okay.
So everything I have now - ALL OF IT - is at the printers. As I type right now the staff's eyes are probably falling out. I know a lot of you are saying "I'm sure they've seen worse" but this is Bible Belt, South Dakota, I can guarantee that they've never PRINTED it. But if things go well, everything here will soon be for sale. I'll definitely have pricing available on all the g-rated stuff (unless they say they never want to see me again) by Monday. Wish me luck that I can convince them to sell it all . . . the girl I spoke to said if it goes over with the boss, they'd even be VERY interested in taking files from all over, not as a distributer, but as a mass printer for people who can't find one . . . .
Johnny, still waiting, but I know it's on the truck. :)

Missing PM from last night, and general stuff
Posted 18 years agoIf you sent me a PM in the past 24 hours, there's an unretrievable note in my inbox that I got the count on, but can't read the note. Could you resend it?
Current project count:
So high up the list it doesn't get a number.) Finish red's commission (anyone want a kid for a week so I can just FINISH IT??)
1.) Do test runs of G-rated prints to see what to mass produce for sale, especially at MFF
2.) Find out what's going on with the two other print test runs I did (Atomic, Din, I'm looking at you guys here . . . . ) so I can get adult stuff out too
3.) Write write write for KYFF because, damn.
4.) Contact MFF to find out if CD's can be sold at Artist's Alley (does anyone know? They'd be all audio, so it's not like they COULD be prints and we tossed them on CD or anything . . . . )
5.) Be really excited for Friday *grins at Johnnyblanco*
6.) Plan out a couple of originals to put up for sale in the art show
7.) Finish piece for charity auction
8.) Figure out where I'm going to record next KYFF
9.) Fix my freaking computer so I can record here
10.) Take at least SOME time to run up to Aberdabber and hang with the Rat
11.) Postpone meeting with shrink over which we were going to discuss overplanning one's life and the stress it causes
12.) Try to make it to the Cities to meet the Minneapolis furs at some point
13.) Set aside a few minutes each day to eat *wink wink*
14.) Work 9 hours at my regular job
15.) Put in overtime
16.) Read to child every day
17.) Fall over in chair and sleep
FUN TIMES! Needless to say, that's why I disappeared from IM's for the most part, anyone I haven't talked to in a long time.
Thanks to everyone who watched, fav'd, and had great things to say on
foxamoore 's pic. Things I learned on that one are being worked into Red's pic (techniques and the like) so his is going to take a quick leap from "cool" to "amazing", and *singsongs* he can't see it . . . . *grins evilly*

I'm the only cross-gender lion that I know of, no one has told me of any others, and people not only seem to be genuinely shocked when they find out I'm female, they seem genuinely shocked that a female has a male fursona period. I'm like the last freaking unicorn over here! There's supposed to be more but no one can find them!
So if you know any other female to malesona lions out there, please, hook me up? Apparently it's really common and I want to meet some!

New FA Account - DarkTensik
Posted 18 years agoImaginitive, I know! :D
I've made a second FA account at
darktensik so that I can separate things out for folks who don't want to see "disturbing" art. I'll be moving things there that people have wrinkled their nose at the subject matter or has upset people in the past so that they don't get front-page or mouseover surprises. This will also allow me to expand further into other topics that I've only barely brushed on but people have made clear that they don't want to see on my gallery. That account will strictly be display only, no journals or anything to that effect past an introductory just to keep on the front page, or if I put up an extreme commission offering on Furbid or the like. so no, you won't get double the journal spam if you watch it. ;)
Some things that I WON'T be moving though is things where just the description is what makes it a little off, or just people's perceptions. Examples: any adult art of myself and Saraya will still be here, because it is just the description that makes people raise eyebrows; if I said they were two friends, the art would remain exactly the same. I'll also keep any cub art that I do here, because I don't DRAW cub art of an adult nature. If people think a sleeping baby is sexy, that's on their heads, not mine. Anything that is borderline might be posted in both, but for the most part I'll probably play it safe and put it in the DarkTensik account and journal it here with a link to that pic only.
So for gore, vore, and so much more . . . eventually . . . that'll be the one to watch! And if you've pulled or been thinking of pulling your watch from this account due to content, this one will stay sweet and sexy from now on. :D
