Yeah! Drawing again.
Posted 13 years agoActually, this time! Working on getting my workflow quick and efficient... with an eye to opening commissions sometime soon.

It is a strong fantasy. It makes me grin and grin and replay piece after piece of it to myself. Watching it in 3D at the IMax (!) is definitely the most enjoyable cinematic experience I've ever had. Even better than Akira on the big screen! It was like the most beautiful and non-terrifying parts of an acid trip, in glorious 3D technicolor.
It's certainly not the best film I've ever seen. The writing was trite, and even by Cameron's standards, mostly artless. But no film has made me give less of a damn about all that. It was sheer, gorgeous spectacle, and it played on my heartstrings like a maestro. (And my loins. God DAMN but the Na'vi are cute!). It's a film that surrounds you and saturates your senses and throws you gleefully about this alien world like a roller-coaster. I really love it.
(People have talked about race in the film. I don't agree with those who dismiss the whole debate as ridiculous; this is a tremendously popular film that clearly has Things To Say, including Things About Race. I think it's important to pay attention to messages like that and call them out if they're offensive, problematic, or out-and-out racist... this article is doing the rounds makes some pretty valid points along those lines. But I do think Cameron's smarter and more understanding than that -- not as a writer of dialogue, but as a writer of film. And indeed, [a href=http://www.race-talk.org/?p=1572]this article[/url] raises some strong and perceptive arguments in his defense.)

Moving etc (also: ObAWESOME)
Posted 17 years agoFirstly: congratulations on your shiny new president of awesomeness, all you Americans! He's one of the most inspiring politicians I've seen and with any luck, he'll do as well as can be done against the various problems (national and global) that are mounting up.
Secondly: zomg, I'm 24 now. I don't feel "old" but at the same time, it kind of feels like I'm not a kid any more. Time to get off my ass and actually start doing things with my time like an adult. :O Speaking of which, I'm hoping I'll be able to start putting out more than like a picture a month, due to my life being shaken up (and improved) by:
Moving! Although the move itself became a bit of a debacle, I now have a new flat (i.e. apartment) and it's just been a ridiculously good find. My room is big... so big... epically big, and the location is great (apart from being further from work, but eh). It's big enough that I can set up a whole area to be a 'studio' with proper drawing space, separate from the PC/TV/lounging-around area. And from the 'bedroom' area. And from the 'lobby/storage' area.
Yeah, it's pretty big. :3 Pictures soon. And I'll have internet at home in a few days too!
