The online comic Peter and Company (http://www.peterandcompany.com) is being made into a syndicated cartoon. The creator, Jon Ponikvar, has sent out requests for vocal auditions for various speaking parts in the story.

Thus far, I have put together two audition reels--one for Eddy, and one for the worms. I've set up the reels with still frames from the comic itself.

Well folks, it looks like I'm headed to MFM in Memphis this year. I've never been to MFM before, and I'm looking forward to the new experience. However, since it'll just be me, I'm very hesitant to book a room all by myself.

I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that has a room booked, and would be willing to take on an extra roommate. Here are my qualifications:

-Don't drink, don't smoke, no drugs
-Clean habits, shower every day
-Can sleep on the floor in my own sleeping bag if needed
-I plan to bring my own partial suit
-I would like to bring my computer and wacom tablet for arting if there's room
-Will pay my share of the hotel room in advance if needed

We're done! WHEW! I can't believe we did it all in just over a month.

My company, Escalation Studios, just completed work on a new iPhone/iPad game called 'Yeti Town'. It was approved and released on the iTunes store yesterday. I'm really excited about this one because this is now the first game I've shipped since I started working here!

This year for Halloween, I knew what I wanted to wear for my costume: my suit, of course! So I've been excited for the chance to go out in suit, especially to my church's "Trunk or Treat" party tomorrow night.

HOWEVER, I just found out a few days ago that church policy (for safety reasons) prohibits wearing masks. No masks at all. I even went and spoke directly to the Bishop's counselor and told him about my suit, but he said I couldn't wear the head to the party.

*SIIIGGGHH*. I was REALLY looking forward to a chance to suit with all of those kids around.

So I got an idea. I'll still wear my suit, with the head optional. There are two possible choices here, and I'm still trying to decide which:

1. Simply wear the suit without the head, and bring the head with me so others can see it, but just don't put it on.

2. Tuck the neck material up inside the head, and then wear it on top of my head like a hat. Not sure about this one, though--might look super weird.

And I don't have to use up stupid energy points to do stuff! I can do as much as I want! And I don't have to wait for some stupid energy bar to recharge before I can do more stuff!

Stupid facebook games.

When someone makes a facebook game that actually is a GAME, not some money-grubbing lame excuse for a game, then I'll give it some credibility.

Well I was able to get my computer running again, with a complete hard drive wipe and a clean re-install of Windows XP. It turns out that my wireless network adapter is fried, as well as my entire USB system.

So, I can connect to the internet using a direct network connection (annoying, but I can live with it). However, I cannot use any USB devices at all (such as my Bamboo tablet!).

 LeonatoLynx suggests that I look into getting a PCI USB card so that I can use USB devices again. Maybe that'll get me up and running.

I was working on art friday morning (8/19/2011) using my Bamboo Tablet, and everything was working just fine. I finished what I was doing, saved my work, and carefully un-plugged the USB cable from my computer. Once I did that, the whole computer froze HARD.

CTRL-TAB did nothing. CTRL-ALT-DEL did nothing. Mouse clicks did nothing. I had to hard-reboot the machine.

Once my computer re-started, it would not recognize my wireless adapter at all. When I plugged my tablet back in, it said that there was a new, unrecognized USB device, and it couldn't find the drivers for it. I can't connect to the internet at all using that machine, wireless nor direct connect.

I am now accessing the internet using my wife's machine.

Anyone see anything like this before? I thought USB devices were supposed to be safe when you connected/disconnect them. Might I have fried something inside my machine?

For all of you who saw my invitation to Beta Test our game last week, I have to apologize. Another publisher has taken interest in our game, and we're letting them decide whether to pick up and publish our game. Therefore, the Beta Test will not be taking place this week.

We here at Escalation Studios are going to open our new Facebook game for testing next monday (August 1st 2011). This is an invitation for all of my friends to take part in that Beta Test.

The game is called 'Friends and Zombies', and all you will need to play is a current Facebook account. The game is essentially a zombie survival game, but it has been 'cute'-ified a bit so that it's more friendly to the general public.

As a professional game developer myself, I have long held the view that better graphics DON'T make a game more fun. What makes a game fun is immersion, consistent look and feel, relevant risk/reward systems, etc.

Listen, all you gamers out there: More polygons and crazy visual effects may be cool to look at the first or second time you see them, but they DO. NOT. MAKE. THE. GAME. FUN. If the game industry could separate graphics from aesthetics and focus on what is truly important (aesthetics), then we would finally see the gem-to-garbage ratio of games begin to increase.

Wii U. That's the name for the next Wii console. I made fun of the original Wii name until I saw what the console could do. I will not make that same mistake again.

It is now official, folks. After nearly four months of searching, I accepted a job offer this morning. I am going to be working as a Game Software Engineer for Escalation Studios in Dallas, TX. My start date will be June 20th.

As for Blizzard, I had a great interview there last week, but unfortunately they feel that my technical skills are not quite up to the level they need at the moment.

Though we're sad to be leaving California, and we're not sure what to expect in Dallas, we're happy to have a job, and we're looking forward to the future.

NOW perhaps I can quit worrying about putting food on the table and start working on my art again...
