Rough Commission Rules V2.0
General | Posted 4 months agoHi,
So I think I'll just put this up. Feel free to comment on it, but these will be the initial prices.
Prices
Line art: Base price $30 (up to 2 characters, $15 for each additional character)
Flat Colour: Base price $40 (up to 2 characters, $20 for additional characters)
Shaded Colour: base price $50 (up to 2 characters, $25 for additional characters)
Bust: Half of above base prices. So $15 line art, $25 shaded, etc.
Sequences: Things like TF sequences you can use the above line, colour, and shaded rules. So two panel sequence is base price, 3 would be base price + 1 character, and so on.
Additional Costs
Complexity: Particularly difficult pictures may be an extra $5-20 to base price. This will be set out before work starts.
Background: Heavily depends on the background. Simple colours are free. Very basic patterns and shapes $5-10. More complex could range from $10-40. Multiple panels of background price would be a determined on a case-by-case basis.
Policy
I reserve all rights to artwork I produce, so you may not sell or reproduce said images unless discussed and an agreement arrived at with me. Commissions may be posted by me to one or more websites. I reserve the right to deny any commission for whatever reason. I will do general to adult work, however the adult pictures require a statement that you are 18 years old or more.
Payment is up front. After accepting the commission I will try to have a basic sketch of all or part of the commission ready within the month. (I have a day job that takes a LOT of time some weeks.). I strive for a time frame of two months to get something done, though hopefully most things will not take this long. Repeat changes and very complex projects of course may take a bit longer. If you would like something on a shorter schedule or for a specific date let me know at the start and I'll see if I can accommodate your request.
A rough sketch will be provided for approval by the client. Changes can be requested at this time. Three limited re-draws to fix details is allowed. Repeated changes will mean something will take a bit longer. If issues arise in agreeing to move forward a refund can be given. Once agreed to continue to final line work and/or colour no refund will be given. I may still do what I can to make you happy with a final product but there are also limits of skill, time, and energy.

Rough Commission V1.0
General | Posted 4 months agoHi,
So going to post this here for hopefully some useful commentary on opening for commissions, and if this seems clear. Probably not the best time to do this with all the controversy around payment methods and the like, but if I wait for things to "calm down" I feel I'll be waiting forever.
Not included is payment options because I'm looking for an online payment system that isn't PayPal that works in Canada.

Help On Starting To Offer Commissions
General | Posted 6 months agoOkay, as I've been running into a real lack of creativity these last months I think I'll finally start taking on commissions other than just ones for friends. I'd probably start in July but I figure it'll take a while to flesh out rules.
As there are a LOT of people out there that have experience with this on one or both sides of the equation, can anyone suggest:
A good solid example of an information sheet
Best practices for payment? (all in advance?)
Is there any sort of "going rate" for things?
Payment options cross-boarder (US to Canada)
What to say regarding issues like preventing unwanted modification
Do I have to laundry list the stuff I won't do or can I just say right to refuse any work?
Is there a typical/common return policy?
Does $50USD for a colored /shaded character seem reasonable? I have pretty much no concept of my skill level. I think I have a clear idea for a minute or two then see the rates of others and I'm back to square one.
Thanks.

Looking For Bluesky Invite
General | Posted 2 years agoJust putting this up here as well as I try to get off the Ex-Twitter site. Seems everyone is managing to move but me so far.
Okay, Want Some Feedback
General | Posted 3 years agoOkay, I admit I've been kind of unmotivated of late to draw stuff. The ideas I have are longer comic-form stuff, but many nights I want to so stand along pics.
So, are there some ideas or general concepts you would like to see me do/try here? Be as specific or vague as you want.

Looking for Artist to Commission
General | Posted 4 years agoAsked this on Twitter. HUUUUGE mistake. Trying here.
I'm looking for someone that might be good with drawing a few things. If anyone can suggest someone or offer we can figure a price...
Should be good at drawing the following:
Rat
Otter (non anthro)
Armor/equipment, D&D characters
Why am I asking?
We recently finished off a Pathfinder game of 5 years, defeating the big boss. At the end I had accidentally (and through various occurrences) ended up with a character that just seemed like a real badass and a want a picture.
The subject:
Fuffath Caskkiller, is a 19-year old ratfolk, level 20 alchemist. Her primary weapons are a bandolier of magical bombs, a glowing revolver, and a staff (Staff of hungry shadows). Her "grand discovery" at level 20 was that she's now immortal and will neither age nor die from old age.
She's a rather plain looking brown rat about 4ft high. She has a scar (healed over but fur color is changed) of a hand print where it looked like someone grabbed her neck (and touched part of her cheek) on the left side.
Clothing would consist of two bandoliers with small bombs, armor that looks to be leather, and a dark cloak perhaps with some fancy accents near the top or clasp. Rather nice boots, though perhaps a style where the toes stick out. Dagger on one hip, and a gun holster on the other with a primitive revolver that glows. Paws would have two rings each (various designs). A somewhat magical looking (but minimal) headband, though this may be optional depending how it looks. Backpack may also be optional with a few miscellaneous things sticking out.
Perched on her shoulder is her traveling companion, a normal asian short clawed otter. (Otter is actually a polymorphed ancient time dragon that hid in her backpack when things rapidly went wrong for it in the final battle, like it being polymorphed into a small otter).
Expression is probably a smile or at least a smirk. She does like to party, even if alcohol doesn't really work on her anymore.
So, any offers or suggestions welcome.

Tallying up 2020 and the 108 Threshold
General | Posted 5 years agoMy New Year's resolution was a picture a day for 2020. I didn't make that, but I did draw. A lot.
I took a leap to getting a tablet, and its really turbochanged things. I'm still struggling with the software and learning my second program (Krita, now CSP), but this is not about that.
I’ve posted a lot of things this year, whether on DA (most pony stuff), Twitter ( Termyotterdraws ) or here. Its over 130 things, so maybe one every 3 days. A few are sketches, but most aren’t. In doing this I passed the 108 item barrier.
What is special about 108?
When I first started posting to FA, it was about the only place I was posting to. The time I started doing that was the crest of my previous attempts, and then a long period where I got turned off drawing due to not being able to meet a number of expectations I put on myself.
108 is the total number of drawings I've posted to FA.
I've passed the last 14 year's output in ONE year.
I want to tell those years to suck it. Honestly, I’d like them back, but time doesn’t work that way.
On the one hand its a testament to how much time I wasted all those years. Even when actively drawing I didn't come close to doing this much. When people ask how long you've been drawing I don't know what to say given how lazy I've been about it, and how many years I've been effectively out of it.
On the other hand I've not enjoyed doing this more than I do now. I will probably not hit these levels next year given all the weirdness of 2020, but my job has been ongoing through all the shutdowns, so still working with regular job schedule. I hope I can keep going at some of this level.
While I'm still nowhere near where I want to be, I look at things months ago and think I can do better now. Some stuff from the start of the year is a little painful. I think there has been significant improvement. More importantly though I’m having fun. This is my relaxation.
I've not done TF stuff in a long time because I hated all my transition forms pics. I don't hate those now, though, like everything, lots of room for improvement.
I really want to do more goo/liquid stuff because its kind of an on-brand thing for me *grins*, and I do love it so. I really want to see if I can think of some different angles, though there has been so much good stuff produced by so many now. :)
There will be a few pony things now in here time to time because that was something I was on-board with 10 years ago and still am, but couldn’t begin to do a decent rendition of the style. It's funny that in some ways trying to do this has made me want to draw other things and trying to reverse-engineer that simple style gave a lot of ideas for doing regular anthro stuff. Also, some of the momentum I built up this year was a pic a day challenge drawing pony stuff.
All this is on top of some significant amount of writing too, mostly in the form of a story that I had to write out to get out of head (220 pages) and starting the second of what I see now as a trilogy (75 pages currently). Writing these is just for me alone. I may do some pics on it though sometime.
I guess I just want to say thanks for the encouragement. I hope to keep getting better, but more importantly to keep having fun. The encouragement does mean a whole lot to me (you think my backup ‘sona choice of something that feeds on emotions was picked totally randomly? I know I can be a little needy.). I admit I do keep wanting to please others, and finding the balance of me versus them has been the hardest part of this, and will continue to be so. Even now I keep having that “Notice me senpai!” reflex. The best way I can think about countering it is to first draw what I want and second to hope some like it, which means I’ll probably miss the target a lot with what I post. Thanks for staying around for the randomness. If none of it got any interest from anyone I’d be sort of wondering if posting any of it was really worth it.
Thanks for sitting through a lot of different random interests of mine.
So, I’ll try to make some goals for 2021 soon and hopefully I get close to some in as constructive a way as I did for those for 2020. Even missing this goal has been a turning point it feels, so resolutions aren't really just success or fail.

Commissions??
General | Posted 5 years agoBeen pondering the idea of trying to do a couple commissions if that's a thing any would want/be interested in. Very limited number because I draw for myself.
That's not really true. I draw stuff I want to, but I also really really want to draw stuff that others like to bring a laugh, or something else. But that's a distinction for another time.
At this point I'm just putting the idea out there. I had one ask me. Honestly I haven't even an idea of what I'd charge. On the other hand I never have enough to buy commissions from others so maybe it wouldn't be bad to make a little more to spread it around to others.

Still Active, sketches on Twitter
General | Posted 5 years agoJust FYI. I've not posted any stuff up here that I would consider 'pieces' of one sort or another, but I do often post sketch practice and stuff on Twitter at @ termyotterdraws (minus the space of course)
Posting Anxiety
General | Posted 5 years agoThis is a weird one for me.
Over the years I've written (yes, started out writing) and then drawing. I've posted all manner of stuff of varying quality (check the gallery here for examples!). I've never really had too much anxiety about it. People don't like something, well that's unfortunate.
Recently, I started writing again. Fan Fiction stuff. I saw a couple stories, sat down for three weeks and produced a cohesive 90K story set between the two stories. I will likely never post it anywhere, and there were things in there that I managed to execute that I've never done in the past. Stuff that actually made me cry writing (perhaps not the hardest thing, I can be a bit of a softie). I wrote with almost non-stop. I was never at a loss for what the characters would say (mostly all mine. I'll use someone's universe but shy away from their characters unless I take the reigns fully).
It feels like a waste not to do something with it, but in no way would I post it.
Afterwards, I had another idea, something silly. Same Fan Fic setting. Somewhere on the line of comedy with some serious bits. Like the previous story I sat down and put out 30K in two weeks. Edited it. Obviously nowhere as complicated as the other thing, but something I could easily see writing two follow-ups as the story was to set the stage for those.
Unlike the writing I did years ago I enjoyed writing these so much more. Writing was almost an addiction during the process. Even editing was enjoyable. I hate editing.
And I can't bring myself to post this either. I don't know why. Part of me feels that maybe there's something there someone would like, and that maybe its a waste to do all that and stuff it away. Whatever, the really worrying thing is it feels like if I can't detach and enjoy what I make less I'll not be able to post anything. But at the same time I don't want to detach from it. I'm getting real joy out of this. There is another part of my head that will punish not producing content, so maybe that will even it out in a real shitty way.
I don't really know what to do. Even creating a pseudonym that I told nobody about on another site to do this, I still can't bring myself to post it.
I really don't know what's going on. I guess I post this here to see if anyone has similar experiences, and what they've done to deal with it.

FC 2013 Parade Pics?
General | Posted 13 years agoBeen seeing if there were any pics of Termyotter from the FC2013 fursuit parade. This year, with the help of Naketa (orca) I used his flukes as a prop for most of the parade, trying to "drive" him. Would really really like a picture of this, and given the reaction I assumed SOMEone must have snapped a picture somewhere.
If anyone can find such pic/pics, please please let me know.

Out of ideas at this time
General | Posted 13 years agoI usually have no end of ideas but no will to draw, or the time.
Now I seem to fit some time in, but I can't seem to even think of a pose.
So, I'm open for suggestions as long as the idea isn't too vague (if you're wondering "draw an X" is too vague, YES). Some idea of the pose in there somewhere ok?
Can't guarantee I'll do many or any, but I would really like to have some ideas to go with to sort of fire up the imagination again.

Gots me the Twitter
General | Posted 14 years agoHeld out long as I could.
In case anyone would be interested in that kind of thing, I'm there under Termyotter
(for some reason Terminotaur and Terminotter were both taken, grrr)

Apologies if I missed a comment or picture somewhere, but I've been away in a faraway foreign land with a net connection that wasn't that stable at best, and it worst I was very very hesitant to visit any site with adult content on it.
Anyhow, back now, but in the process of getting ready for FC, and then moving, so will be busy, but I do have some sketches close to done. No really. :)

Transitioning to Activity Once More
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, I know I've been quiet here quite a bit. As I may have made mention to here and there I've been working on a PhD for some time and this takes up quite a bit of time and effort. Lots of all day and night work.
The defense is done though, I've passed, and while there will still be some work to do, I hope to slowly start drawing once more, after a little practice. I do have one commission to finish and then hopefully some new stuff.
Thanks for your patience.

Vote for team Otter, pass it on. :)
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, while its not looking good, I'm trying to get people to vote for this...
Phone company Telus in Canada does a lot of ads with cute animals. They're usually pretty good ones too. Well, they're voting on the next animal to use. Its between a saw whet owl, an otter and a pot-bellied pig.
Trying to get people to vote otter because I want to see some new ads with cute otters in them!
Voting is here: http://www.facebook.com/telus?sk=ap.....26189287456544

April Resolution
General | Posted 14 years agoJust very tired here as wrap up the last of my conferences I've had to go to. Its been a very interesting time but its also led to some realizations.
I can't stress how much I miss chatting with people, drawing, and suiting. If I could do nothing but the three when I got back for the next couple months I'd be happy. Instead I'll have to be working on to get things wrapped for my program.
I think I'm still going to try and do a bit of all three though no matter how busy it gets. I just need them as a mental break from all the research. Just the though of trying to draw a phin, doing a TF pic or such is actually a mind turn on right now.
Also, I don't tend to do well with groups of scientists at these conferences. If you ever thought furry was the main reservoir of cliquish behavior or interpersonal politics, you are gravely mistaken.
I miss my friends. There are so many things I want to draw too.
Back home on Monday night.
P.S.> I truly hope there are better parts of Washington DC, because the experiences I had downtown were amazingly craptacular. At least the next couple days should be a lot better.

European Vacation?
General | Posted 15 years agoHmmm, looks like I could be over in Portugal for a conference. Could possibly take a side-trip somewhere in western Europe / UK. April 4-7. Would anyone wanna visit/visitor?
Welcome to all the new watchers... and a question
General | Posted 15 years agoWow, I don't know what to say about some 20+ watchers in the last 2 days. Obviously many are here as a result of the very nice commission Squeakie did for Hinoki and I. Normally I try to get around to saying thanks to people, even if its months later, but I'm not used to this sort of influx.
Anyhow, I'm hoping to squeeze in a little drawing practice finally. I'm just curious what people might like to see? With everyone new here I figured I'd throw this open again. Any species, subject, pose???

If you took a pic of me at FC.....
General | Posted 15 years ago....please send it my way? I'd really like some photos from the con, and when I'm in suit its a wee bit hard to take them of me (or anyone really).
FC was an immense blast for me. Perhaps a new high for a con for me. That is due in large measure to all the people I got to meet, the new people, the people I'd met only briefly before, and old friends as well. Look, I've been to enough of these that there's no programming event that is going to suddenly knock me on my tail and make me go "whoah!" but there are people that can. Its all about seeing them and meeting new people.
I was thinking of a con report of what I can remember, but I'm not sure its something many are interested in, so I'll just go back to technical writing, and trying to get in some sketching time, as I think one liquidy fox might kick my tail if I don't.

Rare RL Update, and a little about Christmas this year
General | Posted 15 years agoSo, what's been going on here...
Passed one of the 3 trials for my degree (the one I possibly feared the most). Massive stress, but now that its done I can move on to the next stress, which is the second of those trials.
Attached to this was a bit of a kick in the teeth where accounting problems with the people that pay me messed up the time frame of my monthly checks, so I got several months of 1/2 pay, including December. Basically, found out I was given enough to perhaps just cover the bills that couldn't be put on credit until this is fixed (and it will be fixed).
What it has meant is a Christmas with little in the way of giving gifts, and no time to have put out Christmas cards. I've been starting to try and work on some drawings for a couple people, but months of no time for that, and well, the results are somewhat predictable.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not going without this holiday season, just that it has had to be very "frugal" for the time being. I've treated a couple people even in the days leading up to today.
I do want to say this though, for both the furs local to me, and some of those here. This doesn't seem to get said much, and certainly not as much as it should.... you're awesome. Really. I've had a few cards here, someone drew me such a cute picture too, and there was an item with my suit.... For someone that has not been around 1/10th as much as he wants (or feels he should) its just very humbling. I try not to forget such things either.
Thanks so much, and I really do hope the holidays are good to you. *semi-squishy hugs all around*
P.S.>> Will be trying to mix in some drawing with the remainder of my workload so that some new stuff does get done for people.

Digital Colorist?
General | Posted 15 years agoOdd request here.... I had an idea here that I HAVE to do. Shouldn't take too much time to sketch it out.
However, to really pull it off would require someone with a passing knowledge of coloring on the computer. Someone that could do a decent glow effect. Anyone interested or know someone that might be?
P.S.> Its a bad Tron joke, so I want to get on it fast. :)

Downtime
General | Posted 15 years agoYeah, I know, how is that much different from the last little while.
See, here's the deal, I'm working very hard right now to get my degree, and its been eating up a lot of my time. Even with that the next few months promises to get even worse, as in no time to have anything even close to a life outside of working mornings, afternoons, and evenings. I hope its worth it, but the thing is, other than a few old things I've not put up yet don't expect much in the next 3-6 months.
Really sorry, but that degree is something I've been after a long time, and will hopefully make it easier to pay the bills in future, so I really do have to devote my attention to it. I hope to be back afterwards though. I'll still check up on things here, but, well, its very hard to say....

Odd Question
General | Posted 15 years agoIf I say the word "collide" what animal(s) come to mind?
Yes, there is a point to this question. :)

OK, sketch suggestions?
General | Posted 15 years agoOK, so I'm putting together some ideas to just kind of practice and get back to things. Trying to take a few minutes at the end of the day and make my way back to things.
So, I have a little page of ideas to try, but I wouldn't mind some general ones here. It also gives me clue as to what some want to see.
No promises, but I'd like to have a little repository to come to when I draw a blank some nights.
