When I met my husband a decade ago, I also met his cream shiba inu, Aura Spark. They have both been in my life ever since and I love them both dearly. She is now somewhere around 15-17ish years old, well beyond the average life expectancy of her breed, though that doesn't make this any easier to go through.

I've not had much death in my life, even with pets, so I'm not really sure how to even start to process it. Her health took a very sudden nose dive- we suspect she had a stroke. She was born with a birth defect that caused her to have seizures her whole life, though through trial and error we figured out how to mitigate and reduce them as much as possible to where she was only having one every 6 or so months and much less severe. But in the last couple months she was starting to go blind and deaf, and being slower to move around, so we knew that this was coming to some extent, and within the last couple of days, her ability to even stand on her own plummeted fast. She is far too old for surgery or anything of that nature, and the thought of her having even just a small seizure in that state would be way too hard on her, so we made the decision to let her go so she would not have to be in pain anymore.

I am going to miss her so much. I took her on daily walks, sat with and gave her muscle massages whenever she experienced seizures, played with her and showered her with love in every way I knew how. We gave her the best life that we could and I am thankful for every day I got to spend with her and how much time that we had. As anyone else who has gone through this surely agrees, it is just never enough time. I am also worried about her best buddy, my cat Jasper. They've been besties for Jasper's whole life and he is about 5 now. Luckily we have a second cat so he won't be alone, but I still think he is going to struggle for a while since he won't be there to understand what happened.

The cost for euthanasia and cremation came out to $210. Thankfully I'm able to cover it for now, but I will be short for other things in the next couple weeks for bills and groceries, so I'll likely be opening emergency commissions to make up for it. I also just want to say that commission work might be slightly delayed while I allow myself some time to grieve. I hope everyone understands. Hopefully it won't delay for long, but I will keep everyone updated in the coming days.

This year was my first ever artfight. When I decided I was gonna do it, I was still on leave from my surgery and experiencing an art high because Id been able to do so much while not working. I really thought Id continue to have the energy, drive and time to actively participate, though I knew it wouldnt be nearly as much as I had been doing since I would be back at work.

Unfortunately, right at the start, I hit a block. I should have anticipated it- the combination of returning to my full time job plus the “pressure” to draw for AF really grinding my momentum to a halt. I was only able to get 3 revenges out when I had wanted to do way more. The month went by so fast, between work and appointments and general life, and suddenly AF was over. Im proud of myself for at least doing those three and I am SO GRATEFUL to everyone who attacked me. I HOPE I can maybe draw something as a thank you to those people over time even if it doesnt count towards AF.

It just landed at an unfortunate time in my life this year. I havent decided if Im going to do it again next year but only time will tell! Im trying not to beat myself up too much about doing so little….

This week has been crazy hectic with doctors appointments as well as being stuck with a cough and PRIDE today, as well as taking a bit of a brain break from art since I noticed I was getting a tiny bit burnt out and my hand was starting to hurt. My surgery was this past Wednesday and it went as smooth as it could have! I've been home recovering ever since and taking it easy, following drs orders, etc etc.
I've been able to sit at my desk for short stints until my body becomes so exhausted that I have to go back and lounge on the couch or in bed, but I'm able to do it a little longer each day, which means that hopefully I'll be able to get back into drawing soon! I have done a little bit, but the painkillers + exhaustion + limited movement means it isn't as good as I'd like it to be for comms n shit xD
Honestly, the most painful parts were the soreness of my throat from the intubation, and the itch of the surgical compression vest. The incision pain hasn't been TOO terrible as long as I am keeping at least somewhat medicated- trying to do a mixture of the heavy stuff plus ibuprofen/tylonol so ween myself off the heavier stuff over time.

I get my drains taken out next Wednesday which is when I should get the okay to shower. I think they'll still want me to wear the vest as much as possible otherwise, but it will be the first time I actually get to see my results which is very exciting!!

I still have medical bills to pay, so I am still taking commissions and accepting donations! Every little bit helps in the long run!

In case you haven't kept up with my previous journals, I am getting top surgery next week, assuming all goes well!!
I have unfortunately had to have many in office visits and tests and antibiotics etc in preparation, which has racked up a few decently sized bills. Nothing terribly big on its own, but it certainly has added up quickly. That paired with the out of pocket payment I will have to pay on the day of surgery and then the final bill once it arrives, though I'm far less concerned about the final bill at this time.

I mentioned this in an earlier journal, but my top surgery (after waiting 10+ years!!!!) is scheduled for May 7th! I am beyond excited, but there is still the stress of the financials that come with any medical appointment in the US, much less a surgery. Luckily, my insurance covers it, but I still have co-insurance, co-pay, deductibles, and the out of pocket maximum that I will have to fork over.

So, I have commissions open! I will be trying to get as many done before that date as I can (currently only have 2 in queue and one is already started), but do keep in mind that, at least for a week or two, I wont be able to draw much. I expect to get a decent amount of time off work before I have to return, so as soon as I can manage, I plan to jump back on the art horse, though!

I joined this site in college on a whim. I had always been into anthros but had never known that there was a word for it, much less an entire community. I called this place home for many many years. Had many ups and downs and eventually left the community for a few years.

On a whim, a couple months ago, I came back. I'm not nearly as active as I once was, and I'm not sure I ever will be again. I hope so, one day, to make new friends in this community, or rekindle old ones.

All this to say that I owe a lot to this site. I officially got serious about drawing thanks to this community. So... life has been REALLY crazy the last couple weeks. My boyfriend and I had to go on a 36 hour round trip car drive to rescue a friend from a shitty living situation. They are currently living with us, but they don't currently have a job and the trip really hurt our funds, as well as my energy levels.

It's been a struggle to find energy to draw but I think I'm finally getting around to it, so apologies to those two kind patient folk who have been waiting orz

Money is EXTREMELY tight right now due to the extra body until they can get a job. They have a few things lined up, but it can take time to get settled and start getting paychecks.

This seems to happen once every couple months.

I start to question what type of person I truly am- and what I strive to be/present as. This causes a lot of dysphoria, on top of struggling to connect with my characters-- especially in regards to whatever fursona I've been using. I've never really kept a fursona for longer than a year-- my longest one was Rewind, whom I still adore- but unfortunately, I sold the suit, and I'm not sure if the owner of that suit would let me use the character again-- or if I'd even be satisfied with having him back. Though he was the last design that I designed for myself that I ended up really loving for a long time. Idek who owns him anymore. Pretty sure the person I ended up selling the suit to sold it a few years ago.

I just. I see all these characters that have so much life in them- so much personality- that you can see why these people chose them as their fursona. I feel like, no matter what design I choose, it always falls flat-- they never feel like ME. Maybe because I'm a bland person with no personality, and clearly no self confidence.

I feel like nothing-- no one. No matter how hard I try, I just. Can't seem to get over it. Idk what to do. I wish I could just get someone to design a character for me-- like. Give me a fucking questionaire that will tailor the perfect fursona for me lmfao. Take my non-existent personality traits and somehow come up with a design that fits me. But that is impossible.

Just want to fit in and be liked but I feel like if I can't even like myself, who the fuck is going to like me.
