I am looking for fan translators to volunteer to translate Slightly Damned into other languages!
Due to my contract with Hiveworks, only translations hosted on sdamned.com are allowed. I am finally ready to do this for fan translations! I apologize that it's taken me this long to get the ball rolling on this one.
I've started uploading Slightly Damned in Czech thanks to the efforts of a volunteer: https://www.sdamned.com/czech/
Basic image editing skills are required. However, I will provide the blank comics with their words erased, so all you have to do is fill them in. For more information, please email me at chu@raizap.com!
The Slightly Damned website is also being updated to support tags and transcripts. I may need some help transcribing the massive 1,000+ page archive...
Lastly, I'm going to be a dealer at Another Furry Con in Ontario, California! I was fortunate enough to get off the waitlist and I'm excited to see how this new convention's first year goes.

Happy 20th Anniversary, Slightly Damned!
Posted a year agoOn March 14, 2004, I posted the very first page of Slightly Damned online on my personal website. I built the site myself from notepad and updated it manually for years. Every page of the comic was a separate .html file, and it as inefficient as heck! I remember getting emails from folks telling me their internet speeds couldn't handle the high quality JPEGs I initially put up. Those could exceed 500kb EACH! So I decided to replace them with lower quality ones that were under 200kb for a while...
Wait, where was I? Oh, excuse this old fart for reminiscing. With the current state of the modern internet, I can't help but feel wistful for the world wide web as it was when I first started Slightly Damned.
Slightly Damned is 20 years old now! I never imagined I would keep up with it for this long. When I first started, I was just an ambitious teenager with no real thoughts about the future. I didn't even think about collecting the comic into books. I assumed no one would want one.
So much of this comic was made under the belief that I would one day be forced to drop it. That day never came, but it sure tried. I've thought about quitting several times. Through the darkest times, I thought about quitting more than just the comic. But still, despite everything, I pressed on. I loved working on Slightly Damned too much to stop. I gave up a lot and risked a lot to keep going. I closed doors that I still think about to this day. No regrets, though.
Over the years, several kind people have told me that reading Slightly Damned helped them through hard times. That alone makes the effort worthwhile. It's easy for me to get fixated what I haven't achieved and feel frustrated and down on myself. But in the end, it fills me with a great sense of fulfillment knowing that my art can make people happy. Making Slightly Damned helps me through hard times, too.
I think we are past halfway through Slightly Damned's story. I can picture the conclusion, and I want to reach it within my lifetime. But if I fixate on the fact that I have 10-20 more years to go before I can conclude Rhea, Buwaro, and Kieri's tale in a way that satisfies me, I'll be overwhelmed by existential dread.
So I will continue as I always have: I'll take things one step at a time. I will not deliberately stall, but I will also not rush just for the sake of concluding things sooner rather than later. I'm in a position that allows my serialized story to come out at a slow and steady pace; a pace that would make most publishers turn inside out. It's not a privilege I want to take lightly.
I am dedicated to seeing Slightly Damned's story through to its natural conclusion. At this point, it has proven to be my life's work. I love this world and its characters. I'm as passionate as ever to keep heading towards the finish line for the story for as long as I am capable.
Thank you to everyone who ever gave me words of encouragement, supported my business, was patient with me, spread the word about the comic, attended my streams, made fan art, and otherwise lent a hand, even if just for one moment. I can't say it enough: I would not be able to keep being an artist if it wasn't for your help. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

P.S. I'm planning to give the Slightly Damned website some love soon, starting this year. The info pages about world history and the different races are long overdue for some new art and new lore. It's going to be a huge undertaking, so I don't know how long it will take. But it's something I've been needing to do for a long, long time. Please look forward to it!

"But when's the comic going to start updating again?!" Oh, yeah! I am a bit behind schedule because I was sick for a week following my vacation to Japan (which was otherwise fantastic). The anniversary poster also ended up being much more labor intensive than I planned, but I think it was well worth the trouble. New Slightly Damned pages are literally the next thing on my work queue as I write this, so rest assured, they are coming as soon as possible. Thanks for being patient as always!

Happy New Year! Spicy Level Up?
Posted a year agoHi folks! Welcome to 2024! 2023 was... in a word, exhausting. I had some great times I hope to remember for the rest of my life. And Slightly Damned Book Three was funded with a huge outpouring of support! But I also got run ragged by stress and big bills. Here's hoping 2024 is kinder to us all.
I haven't been able to update Slightly Damned's main comic recently due to my work on Book Three. Everything is coming along nicely, though. I'm almost done drawing all the bonus art for the back of the book and proofreading the first draft!
Also, a word about Spicy Stuff: I wrote a little thread on X-Twitter with a poll to ask people how they felt about the "spicy level" of my "spicy art" possibly increasing. Early Spring Update
Posted 2 years agoHey all, Chu here! In February I'll be working on preparing for the Slightly Damned Book Three Kickstarter! If you drop by my art streams during February, then you'll be able to see me work on updating the Book Three cover and redrawing certain pages. Time permitting, I also plan to make the long overdue chapter covers for Book Five: Part Nine and Part Ten.

The Ursa Major Awards also have a Fursuit category, and 2022 just happens to be year where I got my very first fursuit! You may have seen it in person at a few conventions or as stretch and hydration alerts on my Twitch streams. I think that they definitely deserve the recognition for their professionalism and quality, so please write in to nominate my suit if you agree!

Happy Chu Year! (I hope...)
Posted 3 years agoHoo boy, what a year! 2021 was a really rough one for me, y'all. It had everything: death, betrayal, anger, romance (#spicystuff drawings), property damage... but thankfully no personal illness, as I got my three doses of covid-19 vaccines this year. I just about hit rock bottom when my beloved cat Hana passed away, but life had several more cannonball-sized screwballs to lob at me before the year was done. I started seeing a therapist for my first time ever, and it's been great just to have someone to talk to who can help me understand and organize my throughts. After a few dramatic life changes in my personal affairs, I find myself feeling good about the future again, and things are looking pretty bright.
I think everyone is feeling pretty weary these days, so I think you'll understand when I say... I need a vacation! So I'm taking one! Starting right now, I won't be drawing anything for a whole month! There will also be no more updates to Slightly Damned until February 2022. I will, however, be a vendor at Painted Desert Fur Con (Phoenix, AZ) and Further Confusion (San Jose, CA), so please say hi to me and my wares. My friend Princessnapped will be visiting and she will be with me at Painted Desert Fur Con!
Even though it took a long time due to a number of small delays outside of my control, the Slightly Damned Book Two campaign was a smashing success. All the orders have been sent out, and everyone who reached out to me about something wrong with their order received what they needed in the end. 2020's Almost Over!
Posted 4 years agoHey folks! Just wanted to write a new journal to let you all know how I'm doing these days, what's coming next, and update information on where to find me.
The Slightly Damned Kickstarter to print a new and improved version of Book 2 was a smashing success! I just finished drawing nearly all the bonus material for it, and before you know it, it'll be off to the printers.
2020 was a pretty tough year, as I'm sure all of you know. It got even tougher when a friend of mine suddenly passed away in fall. A week later, one of our cats became ill and we had to put him down. I still did my best to hold things together, work on the Kickstarter campaign and work on the book while also keeping up with my normal obligations. And, well, now I'm really tired and I need a break!!
Slightly Damned is fast approaching its 1000th page. Quite a milestone. I have decided that once we reach it, I am going on a short sabbatical. There will be no new pages from the 1000th page's debut on January 2 until the comic's 17th anniversary on March 14. I love working on Slightly Damned and I'm still excited for its future! But I'm burnt out and my arm feels like it's about to fall off. I need to rest.
I'm not sure how I'll spend those two and a half months yet, but I'm keeping my options open. I've got some ideas: giving the Slightly Damned website some much-needed TLC, drawing fanart and gifts for friends, commissions, experimenting with animation in Clip Studio Paint, maybe even Junk Hyenas? I'm not going to promise much since my main priority will be rest. I'll still be around, though-- not like there's anywhere to go, anyway!

Book Two is a HUGE full-color volume that covers the events of Slightly Damned from the trio's time in Riverside City to Buwaro and Kieri's first kiss. Slightly Damned: Book Two Kickstarter on Oct 1!
Posted 5 years agoHi folks! First of all, I want to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who gave me a tip, bought something from my store, got a commission from me, and told me some kind words. Summer is always a bad time for me, and summer of 2020 has been one of the roughest. But your generosity helped me buy groceries and pet food, and your encouragement kept my spirits up. I'm still very fortunate in that my living situation is stable, but every little bit helps from the gaping hole that all the canceled conventions left in my life-- and bank account.
Now onto some good news: one of the things I've been working hard on behind the scenes is the preparations for the next Slightly Damned Kickstarter! This time, our goal is to print the new, improved, full-of-new-bonus-material second edition of Slightly Damned: Book Two. (In short, the first edition was long-discontinued years ago because it was made via print-on-demand, with weak binding and a prohibitively expensive price.) This new Kickstarter is very similar to the previous one, so some of you will know what to expect from the tiers: the chance to write gag comics, nominate redrawn pages, and nab original pencils! There are also new goodies, like prints and stickers. As for stretch goals, there is only one: printing Book Three as well.
The campaign will run from October 1st through October 30th, just before Halloween. I'll be trying to promote it as much as I can on my social media and art sites by drawing a bunch of art. It's my dream to someday collect the whole comic into printed books, so this is an important step towards that goal! Once the project launches, I'll make a new post with the link.
Finally, a word about commissions: I was thinking of opening for more in the middle of October, but in order to focus on the Kickstarter campaign, I think I'll open for more at the beginning of November instead.

As you are already aware, pretty much all conventions have been cancelled or postponed until at least 2021 due to covid-19. That means I've lost anywhere from one third to one half of my total income for the year, if not longer. Thankfully I am lucky to be in a stable living situation with my close friends, so I'm currently in no danger of starving or being evicted. Still, losing that much money is a huge bummer, and it means keeping up with bills is a bit harder than usual. Plus, with how inconsiderate my fellow Americans are being about staying away from crowds and wearing masks, who knows how long this mess will last?
Although I'm not in an emergency situation, I would appreciate your help if you like my work. If money is tight right now, like it is for millions of people, but you'd still like to support me, don't underestimate the power of word of mouth! I'm just one small creator doing their best to work on their passion project. It's easy for me to be overlooked in an endless sea of entertainment and social media fighting for people's attention. Even if all you do is tell one friend that Slightly Damned's archive is worth reading, that can be a huge help! And not just because I get ad revenue from readers visiting the site... it's also because I've put a lot of time and effort into making this story, and it means a lot to me. That one suggestion might ripple out across friend circles to make a big change in someone's life. Besides, who couldn't use a bit of escapism into a fantasy world about animes--I mean Angels-- and furries--I mean Demons-- these days?

For those of you who don't know, I took a break from uploading my art to FurAffinity for a couple of years. I wanted to get my gallery back up to speed, but since I made 400+ pieces of artwork in my absence (no joke), I didn't want to upload ALL of it. So I've been uploading my favorite pieces from 2016-2017, and now, we're finally at 2018! I'm Back!
Posted 7 years agoOver two years ago I decided to quietly leave this art account behind and focus on other stuff. It wasn't for any reason in particular, and I always wanted to keep the door open to come back if I wanted to, so I didn't voice my intention to leave. Since then, however, I've come to realize that it's probably a good idea to keep maintaining this account to try to get more awareness for my work. Self-promotion can be a complicated thing!
Since I stopped uploading here, I've made about 400+ submissions to my deviantArt gallery. That's not an exaggeration; it's literally that many. Ideally my art accounts are all mirrors of each other, but there is no way I'm going to take the time to upload hundreds of old submissions! Instead, I'm just going to start things off by uploading my favorite pieces of work from the last few years. It will not be exhaustive by any means; I'm just going to try and pick a bunch stuff that I think is particularly amusing or does the best job of showing what I can do. Then I'll upload everything I've made in 2018 up until now. After that, I'll keep this account up-to-date. At least for a while. ;)

Posted 10 years agoHey folks! If you’ve been paying attention to me on Twitter or Tumblr, then you know that I’m involved in a brand-new multimedia project that my friends and I have put together! And if you don’t, then that’s why I’m making this post!
Me and my friends from the Center for Cartoon Studies have created Blank Party, our brand of Let’s Plays and comics anthologies all about one of our most favorite things in the entire world: video games! We just started uploading videos for our first two games, ChexQuest and Banjo-Kazooie, and we’re going to have a special announcement on Wednesday the 15th!

Summer Jobs
Posted 11 years ago2014 has been, in a word, harsh. But I'm finally home for summer vacation and I couldn't be happier! Wahoo! That doesn't mean that I can take it easy, though!
+ I'd like to start updating Slightly Damned more frequently, but for now I need to focus on keeping the weekly updates consistent while I tie up some loose ends. In the future, though, maybe more frequent updates will be a Patreon goal...
+ I aim to finish The Legend of Buwaro: Soprano of Time by late June! If it takes me a little longer than that, so be it, but I'm gonna aim for that date anyway! That's because I want to have more time to move onto new, original minicomics (or at least put a bit more elbow grease into Slightly Damned).
+ By the end of the summer, Slightly Damned Book Three and The Legend of Buwaro: Soprano of Time should be available to purchase!

Home Stretch
Posted 11 years agoHi folks! Just thought I'd make a journal entry to say that I haven't completely dropped off the face of the earth. I've been real quiet on the internet lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy.
- My final project for my first year (out of 2) of grad school is a 24-page comic featuring Lucky & Guff, a pair of mutant hyena siblings in a strange sci-fi world. As of right now you can read 21 out of 24 pages of "What's Tomato With You?" right here: http://raizap.com/comics/tomato/
I aim to be completely finished by the end of the weekend, so stay tuned!
I'm happy Lucky and Guff have been getting a lot of positive responses. They're here to stay, and you'll be seeing a lot more of them and their world in the future! ...Eventually, anyway!

I’ve made a lot of mistakes along the way and I still have a lot to learn. I know the comic is far from perfect and my lack of ability is frustrating, but I’ve always tried to do my best. November Commisions Closed!
Posted 12 years agoOnce again I am floored by everyone's support. Thank you all! From this one day alone I have gathered more than enough money to cover for my root canal! I'm going to have to ask for another wave of commissions in a month or so, though, since the root canal is only half of the process. I'll have to get a crown to replace the part of my tooth that's going to be removed, and that's almost as expensive...
But first! I will do my best to complete all the commissions I have received. It'll be tough balancing all that work with my grad school and webcomic responsibilities, but I think I can manage. I'll do my best to complete all the orders in one month's time without giving myself a nervous breakdown. Ha!
