Everyone Calm Down
General | Posted 10 years agoIt's IMVU. It's not the end of the world.
More good will come of this than bad. The only negatives I could really see are related to adspace and those who buy it.
If you're not one of those people, then relax. No need to jump ship.

YCH ideas
General | Posted 10 years agoSo I'm thinking of having a Hypno-ych where a character is being hypnotized (either hypno-eyes or a medallion or something) by another via skype to do... stuff. I figured it'd be one of those ones where multiple people can win the YCH and then basically decide on the side with their character and what they're doing.
Would this be something you guys would be interested in getting/participating in?
What are your favorite kinds of ych's? Cosplay ones or regular? Two+ characters or just one? Etc.
Do you prefer ones with multiple characters where you win both or where you only have to bid on one?

I'd appreciate it a lot if you posted a journal letting other people know about this so I can get a wide variety of characters from all over! If you do, let me know! Thank you!
Let's do this. I'll do as many as I can, but I'll be using a random number generator so that way it doesn't matter if you happen to comment last. I'm gonna be drawing a whooooole lot, today.

I need use your help! (Five quick questions!)
General | Posted 11 years agoSo, I'm trying to be active with journals and really stay in touch with you guys and I have a couple of ideas for things I might like to do, but I'd be curious as to what you think, too, so I'd appreciate if you'd give me some input!
The first idea is what I've already started, which is the "Cool Sites" thing, where once a week I post about a bunch of websites (of a particular theme) that I've found over my years on the internet and share with you guys and you guys share with me, too!
The first question I have is: What are some general website ideas to post about (fun game sites, news, cool facts, random generators, favorite tumblrs, etc)?
The second idea is that I post on the processes and what I learned about pieces that I did, why I chose the direction I did and the like, so that way you can learn about my process and any tips and tricks that I can offer.
So the second question is: Would that be something you'd be interested in seeing?
Third: Would you like to see me make little gif tutorials of my pictures by each stage?
Fourth: How often would you like to see me do this? Do you feel like one every image would be too spammy? Should I do it once a week? Etc.
Fifth, and final: What else would you like to see from me? Feel free to answer this however you want, so anything from "more sketches" (I delete most of my doodles) or "make an Ask Kyo tumblr" or other ideas for good, interactive journals.
As always, I appreciate the input and I hope you guys are doing great.

So, about the news (Cool sites pt. 1)
General | Posted 11 years agoNote: As you can guess from the title, this is a series I'd like to begin doing about cool websites that I've found over the years that I'd like to share with you guys and for you guys to share with me and each other! This isn't a discussion journal about politics, a political/news discussion is just what originally prompted this idea, so that's where I'm starting. I'm happy to talk politics with any of you via notes or on skype, but this is purely informational and I'd like to keep this thread as safe and neutral as possible. It's okay to disagree (equally okay to agree!) with me and express it, but let's keep the debates out of this one so we can make this a productive journal.
But I digress:
It's definitely hard to find good news sources in particular so you get a good take on the information provided. I just ended up posting it in a discussion on a friend's thread on facebook, but I figured that this information might be useful to other people, too, because I had to do a lot of searching and stumbling over neat finds to end up finding things like this for myself. Feel free to comment with sources that you like, as well and why you like them, so that way we can share our resources!
There are some good news sources out there, though I'll admit you have to really look. If you check out http://politifact.com , that's really cool. It's basically http://snopes.com (also a neat site, though not really news) for politics and it's very unbiased. They're just as likely to point out an Obama lie as they are a Bush lie, for example.
I personally like The New York Times http://nytimes.com in particular for their opinion articles and The Upshot (which is a snapshot of economic issues (as the issues themselves, not blaming politicians) that are usually accompanied by very good infographics (which I happen to enjoy)), because you can find plenty of ones that are about subjects in general without trying to paint a political picture (as an example I read one on how Shell was trying to start an oil rig up in one of the arctic seas and how it was perplexing that they'd take such a huge risk when oil is abundant and it's not profitable, then immediately went to an article about how we (as a society) tend to lie about how much protected sex we have and how telling our google searches tend to be about our interests as a culture.) but NYT is also a pay site. It's not pricey, but that's a thing to consider. Clearly, I'd say it's worth it.
http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/.....rts-from-2014/
FiveThirtyEight is also a good site that's pretty unbiased and they also have a lot of infographics if that's your thing, too. I linked an article in particular because it's a good example of the variety of stuff you'll find to read about, there and because as an economics guy, I think I have a graph fetish, haha.
http://www.npr.org/ NPR does some really good stuff about all sorts of esoteric subjects in particular, as well (like the most recent article I read about the movement for free public transit in Sweden) so if you want a good variety of news you'd probably never really hear covered in any sort of large media, I'd go there.
I also like Media Matters for America http://mediamatters.org/ , especially because they cite just about everything that they say so it's not like they're pulling things out of nowhere, though they typically are slamming media giants for their poor journalism methods.
PBS http://www.pbs.org/ is also good, from what I recall, though I haven't kept up with it very well, either.
But yeah, I tend to stay away from stuff like Fox, MSNBC (or whatever the acronym is) or the TV in general, really, besides The Daily Show or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver which are pretty funny. The sad thing about both of those shows is that they're the closest thing you'll get to a liberal media giant and they're both comedies that make fun of politics in general.
It's definitely not easy to find good news that doesn't label its opinions as such, nowadays. I typically stay away from anything that says "Conservative" or "Liberal" whatever, because in itself, you're already agreeing to listen to a particular slant on things -or- to only hear about certain issues. While you constantly should be on the lookout for bias, regardless, you're easily more likely to find it in places that pull in most of their clicks by the people affiliating themselves with the URL alone. "Young cons? That's me! I'm conservative, they're going to only say things I agree with!" as an example and on top of that, they go out of their way to list anything that isn't blatantly of that opinion and target demographic as some sort of biased viewpoint. The middle seems to have definitely become that much more of a niche spot in the age of information.
Anyway, hopefully this helps! Please throw this link to your friends, too! I'd like to see a healthy number of responses, so we can really pull together everything we know!

General | Posted 11 years agoHey, thanks to everyone who's watched and faved and told their friends about me. I really appreciate this more than I can reasonably express. I don't usually post thanks on people's walls since there's only so many ways I can say it and you guys deserve sincere thanks, not just a token response. Thanks for the support once again, and I look forward to doing more work for you guys to enjoy.

irvingbrewThis is a thing I decided to start doing to give some smaller artists attention.
Why? Because it took me forever to get to a thousand watchers and a lot of these guys are great and they need the attention! I didn't get where I am on my own so why not pay it forward!
Seriously, check them out. They have fantastic art and you should see it. You also should tell your friends about them, too so they get more support and they're so pumped up they make even more of it!
