So got a few things to talk about :3
First up: Next album
Kaiju was originally targeted at about 10-12 tracks for release, but since I've been diving into a new sound a bit I'm going to push that to 16 tracks!
I feel like that's a much more comfortable number for the album overall, and should just feel better as a whole.
I'm really putting some love into this album, I hope you guys enjoy it when it's out :3
Next up, got some new toys since I last posted a journal!
Might've heard it already in a few of my tracks, I got my hands on my late uncle's Yamaha MT100 II cassette deck, and have been using it to get the sweet lofi cassette vibe I've been chasing. Nothing more authentic than the real deal eh?
I'm going to be hunting down Dictaphones and other old cassette devices to get some variety in the sound I can get out of these old tapes.
As far as physical instruments go, I've gotten a new lead guitar and bass since the last post, and oh boy they're both fun.
The lead is a frankensteined thrashy thing with a whammy bar, either a Stratocaster or Jackson body with a B.C. Rich neck. I've been using this for the more heavily distorted thrashy stuff, and for those dive bombs I use in a few tracks. My Les Paul I still use for all the smoother clean stuff, but this new one is very receptive to distortion and overdrive.
The bass is something I've lovingly calling "Janktimus Prime". Oh god is it janky, like super janky. It's got an off-white banged up body to it, worn down frets, the pickups are worn, rust on the tuners and coils, but there are some very unique sounds I can pull from it I'm absolutely loving. I don't know what it is, but when I was messing with it at the guitar shop, the high strings just felt good to play and had this nice sound for picking, and the low strings just seemed to get sucked into the body and linger for eternity.
In use I've been getting this sweet, almost square synth sound out of finger plucking the strings up the neck at the octave mark, it's a cool sound that works well with bitcrushing I've found so far.
Aside from those two I'm still keeping my eyes out for other janky instruments to mess with. I'm looking around to see if there's any viable electric ukuleles at a good price point, same for lap guitars and oddball parts guitars. Electric violin has been sitting in the back of my mind ever since I saw Bad Snacks use one in a few of her tracks, so who knows? maybe I'll get one of those at some point.

Taking the dive on bass already, been getting back into playing lead guitar but needed something deeper for my music, so it just kinda...happened on impulse today XD
I now have a Jackson Concert bass guitar sitting neatly right next to my Epiphone Les Paul Studio :3

Over on Newgrounds I like to give really detailed reviews to help out other musicians, especially those that are just starting out.
Realized why the hell am I not doing this over here on FA?
So I'll be floating a bit listening to a lot of people's music posts and leaving detailed feedback to lend a hand for a bit! I figure it's a good way to expose myself to some more new ideas, and it always feels good to lend a helping hand when I'm flat out of ideas on my end.

Kaiju
This is going to be my next album release once Malicious Compliance is finished, there isn't really much of a theme on this one other than "go hard", expect lots of heavier hitting tracks than my usual in this one. Already have 4 or 5 tracks in progress for Kaiju.

I was messing around with some new plugins today (Freakshow Industries Backmash+Dumpster Fire), and I somehow ended up doing this with some seriously time butchered samples, bitcrushing and a bass.
Definitely going to finish this track for Malicious Compliance!

Guys on the EDM Production discord channel talked me through the process, my releases from here on out are going to such so much cleaner for it. No more drowned out drumlines I've always fought with, no disruptive bass frequencies <3

Malicious Compliance is going to be a side project of an album alongside my mainline releases, it's going to have a focus on a mixture of Vaporwave, Lo-fi, and Synthwave vibes.
A lot of my recent projects have been bleeding into that Lo-fi territory a bit, and I really want to dive head first into that sound more, but I don't want to clog up a mainline album with too much of one genre, so I think this is the best route to take for the concept.

We can use multiple playlists in a single project now, so big continuous albums are going to be so much more graceful to make, and doing several iterations of the same track until it clicks is going to be a joy
Expect to see some experimentation in the very near future :D

Next album up is "Pirates of the Digital Sea", actually fairly deep into it at this point, so I imagine the turnaround on that one should be MUCH quicker than Resistance (also I'm pretty sure my PC won't die midway through again lol)

Anyways, all of the planned tracks for Resistance are done and uploaded to FA and SoundCloud! I currently have an album cover on commission right now, will have that posted and the album finalized once I get that.
In the meantime, work has started on the next album, "Pirates of the Digital Sea". Given that today is Talk Like a Pirate Day, it's fitting that I finalize that title today of all days :D

I'm going to be going about renaming "Recreate Yourself" to "Resistance", the album took a little dark of a turn as a whole to work with the existing theme so I may as well go with option 2. Also helps I can commission a really badass album cover with that title :D
Still a couple tracks left for the album, "Bury the Hatchet" is among them, which hopefully I'll have some stuff up for it soon.
