Ech, not how I wanted to start June but it's time to put my big boy pants on and be a smart Shepherd about this.

So I, along with many other people have been really excited for Megaplex next month, I've had my music chalked and ready for the dance comp, was getting ready to rock the Filthy Casual name for the first time, and meet a WHOLE TON of people I've been killing to see. But after really sitting down and really looking at my financial situation, it's becoming increasingly obvious that Megaplex is just not gonna happen, and that fact really dawned in today.

Currently I find myself paying $450 in rent, alongside an extra couple hundred dollars a month in school and medical bills, putting my monthly taxing at around $700/month. As of right now, I make maybe enough to break even on rent/bills. I've ran through roughly $2,000 in the past few months and the nice chunk of money I had to get certified in Medical Transcriptioning is quickly dwindling. Really as much as I enjoy cons, this is a real big issue right now.

Luckily, me, Keryu, and our buddy Titan are moving next week, which will be cutting everyone's rent by half. Also I've been able to pick up more hours at one of my jobs, with the possibility of getting a much better paying job in a few weeks if everything goes well. These changes will allow me to save up money instead of just funneling it out of my bank account every month, and that will be a nice change. Once I can get my $2,000 back, I'll be able to get certified a few months after purchase and really start to make a respectable income. I personally like the idea of living comfortable and not busting my ass for a bit over minimum wage.

But right now that's where I'm at and I have to man up and live with it. I gotta work hard and make sacrifices in order to be better off for myself, my girlfriend, and my friends and family. Right now those sacrifices involve missing out on easily one of the best cons of the year and missing out on seeing a lot of my con buddies which seeing them is always a treat I don't get to enjoy much. But dammit, I can't keep making food for people for the rest of my life, I gotta change this shit up and do it big. I like the concept of $30,000 a year instead of barely scraping $10,000 a year.

So for everyone I told I'd be going to MegaPlex, sorry! Big Boy Diesel needs to step up and the Dancing, Smug, Con-Obsessed Shepherd will have to wait just a bit longer. It'll all be worth it!

I'll try to keep this from being overtly long, but news has been circulating of Dr. Phil wanting to bring closet furries and their either unsuspecting or non-understanding families to the show to talk it out on national television. Like most occurrences with national television and furries, barring from the occasional diamond in the rough, it always come with the intentions of being good but ultimately gets veered into a smear campaign or just it being so cringe-worthy that it does none of us any good.

So why does this feel like just another "Oh God why are they doing this" campaign? Honestly, because Dr. Phil is playing out being a Furry as a medical condition, which...I mean I guess I could see why they could run that. I'll throw this out first: in no way do I believe I was an animal in my previous life, or do I believe that me and German Shepherds have any psychological or pathological or spiritual connection; I understand I am a human and I dress up in a dog costume and peruse around hotels and dance in front of live audiences, I love the furry community and everyone here. But I know there are more than a few people in this fandom that DO believe that they were a wolf or bird or dragon in their past life, or they're a wolf trapped in a human's body: and that's exactly who they will shoot for.

Because for a non-furry who doesn't associate themselves with the fandom, we all looking fucking crazy, there's no two ways about it. And who doesn't love watching crazy people deal with their issues on national television? You've got shows like Jerry Springer and Maury, which either had decades of success or are still continuing their ratings success into the present day, and not to talk about the tens of hundreds of reality shows plaguing the networks over the past 10-15 years. In the big marketing networks' eyes: we are fucking paydirt.

But I see a lot of furries who get what's going on here: they want a martyr from the furry community to say that what they are is a problem and YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME MOM I'M A WOLF AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT, and people who have seen what happens on shows like The Tyra Banks show: this shit gets you ostracized in the community, and as a welcoming community as the furry community is, it can be really mean when you make it look bad. So I'm happy to see an overwhelming, "Yeah, nooo..." from the furry community to this.

But come on. This is television. You don't have to get a real furry for Dr. Phil to run this show. Which is really where I see this happening. Some dude is gonna take a nice paycheck to call himself Slevana the red/black Dire Wolf with a love for Game of Thrones or some stupid shit like that. Anything to make us look as entertaining and weird and repulsive as possible to the middle-aged community right?

So basically: Furries aren't dumb enough to fall for this, but actors are.

Ay Dios Mio gentlemen.
