Some thoughts on a story I'm working on
Posted 2 months agoHi, first journal entry!
I have actually been working on several stories over the last few months, I just haven't really uploaded anything because none of them feel 'right' yet. I've also just had a lot to do in my personal life.
Anyway I've been thinking a lot about the themes of one specific short story I've been working on and I've decided to just write a journal about it, to put some thoughts out there (Just because).
The basic idea is that an eldritch being (in the form of an anthro bird obviously) tries to invade the world and starts by invading people's dreams.
The main character then submits to the bird in her dream after arguing with it for a while.
After having considered it for a long time I think I can articulate exactly what it is that appeals to me about the scenario of giving yourself over to some sort of alien bird. It starts with the fact that I consider myself a somewhat guarded person. I don't think I trust people easily (for better or worse) and I've never really met anyone that I've trusted, that I haven't felt betrayed by in some way afterwards.
Therefore I really like the idea of something alien, inhuman and incredibly powerful invading the world and submitting to it. Something that can communicate with you telepathically and perfectly, understanding you and exploring you fully. The idea of willingly offering yourself up to something that 'deserves' it, trusting it and knowing that your trust isn't misplaced is fantastic.
You're basically surrendering yourself completely without fear, letting that thing own you fully and knowing that it will treat you well, even if you don't have a say in the matter.
It's like a combination of letting go control and having control taken away from you. It's pushing you into something that it knows you want, but that you struggle to admit to yourself that you want.
The hypnosis/mind control in there also serves to remove that feeling of guilt that you shouldn't be doing this or that it's somehow wrong.
That's basically all I wanted to say, really. I think that's why I like the theme, because it lets you live out a 'trust fantasy'. You can give yourself to something that's better than human (or in the case of what I'm working on, you're [i]forced[i] to) and you're placed in better hands. Somewhere in between voluntary surrender and something powerful claiming you for itself. Rather it's more like that thing is giving you and excuse to be claimed and controlled, if that makes sense.
In case anyone was curious where I've been, that's basically it! Sorry if this entry is a bit chaotic. I do have plans, they're just not working out yet. Hopefully soon though ^v^
