Thoughts on Game Design
General | Posted 13 years agoSo, one thing I really miss are games like... Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 and even Ty. These were all adventure games in which you'd progress by opening up "worlds" which happened to be like sand boxes you could explore. Progress could be achived from little things like finding a house and shooting down a bee hive or creeping through deadly turbines on a ship. It encouraged exploration and experimentation. But these now defunct adventure games had to be done right or they'd become a chore or feel uninspired.
One thing I've wanted to do with my game (which I still haven't started on, but its getting close) is to make such an open world... But the thing is that its an RPG and I don't want there to be - say a hub world because then the seperate levels feel disconnected. And that's the problem because in an RPG usually progress is done by levelling up rather then by collecting nick nacks. I could create a world with lots to explore but would anyone do it, or would it just feel cluttered?
On the other hand, its both easier to create seperate themed "worlds" and fill them with content rather then trying to create sprawling landscapes with nothing to do. I have a habit of doing that. The first world I'm working on - Nah'Grandia is described as a vast field. I am of course, spoofing Hyrule Field. But like Hyrule Field this runs the risk of becoming just a back drop to get from one point to another and I don't want it to be like that.
So, there's a very delicate balance to be had and a misstep could possibly ruin my game if its not designed well. Likewise, I want these over world areas to feel vast and full of life. I also thought perhaps I should do like, the 1986 Legend of Zelda thing and have the map work similarly but then it would feel too small and too random to stand toe to toe with a game like Skyrim.
And speaking of the art style - I do still want it to be old school. I worry though that people won't be interested because it will look dated, but on the other hand its distinct enough to be unique (and easier to draw to since the only one making this game is myself, and I'd much rather code it then draw it).
I think old school works well now a days. After all, Megaman 9 and 10 were a hit as far as I know.

Soundtrack Compilation
General | Posted 13 years agoFor my game, I'm choosing to keep the art style simple. It will look like an old school NES game (8 bits total!), but even with limited pixels I'd like to convey a sense of epic grandeur without fancy graphics. For the most part, this will exist in the enormous sound track. The sound track for even the first part of the game is so large that it needs to be catalogued some place. So I will do that here.
Planning for the first section of the game is nearly done. I'm itching to move onto development. After the first part is done, I'll gauge the feedback for the next planned sections.
All sources will be credited in game.

So yeah...
General | Posted 14 years agoI created a fursona called Frost Nova and gave her an epic back story. It was ok, except for every good story needs a beginning middle and end right? So I'm working on her ending. But It's also to be about eight hundred million times as epic as her intro. Actually, the prologue thus far is about eight hundred millions times epic then her... Well, everything else. I am hard at work banging out ideas for this epic project. Here's the summary:
"Like all heros, Frost's story has a beginning, middle and end. In an alternate realm, she's set upon her final conquest in the strange world known as the Terra Incognita aboard a floating sky city named the Thirteenth Ark. Under the mysterious and forbidden mainland sleeps the false god, Ao who threatens to wake up and swallow the lands that literally rest upon its back. Having trained non stop for over two thousand years into the future, Frost has become powerful enough to be considered a demi god, yet she remains hidden, preferring to transcend history and keep out of mortal affairs which she has grown board with. She is forced into action once her rival and fellow demon, high priest cultist Lucian Macabre sends the world onto a collision course with mass destruction."

I'm new!
General | Posted 14 years agoGo me! Trying to write something deep and meaningful that sounds epic for a profile is... hard.
But hopefully I'll have art to upload soon. :3
Then I can be a famous (or maybe just well known) fur artist. You know what they say right? First Molossia, then the neighborers down the street, then america and then the world!
Right... Its 4:30 am. :(
