IAAPA/Random life
Posted 9 years agoI'm going again. 👌
Imagine taking the Orange County convention center, filling it with LEDs, coaster manufacturers, food booths and actual rides(!) and you have IAAPA. Hella fun, if you like theme parks I recommend going.
I also had a chance to travel to talk to a ride manufacturer about an internship. Wound up meeting up with another ride company that had came to give a talk. Long story short I've been chosen as their next hire, starting either next summer as an intern or after I graduate as a full timer. Woo
Currently working as a substation designer for the power company again, back to school in January. But it means I've had a lot of time to work on my projects (I really oughta post them here sometime). If ya got something you'd like to see made, shoot me a note. Always looking for new projects to do :3

I'm not dead! (Yet)
Posted 10 years agoEngineering school ain't as easy as it looks.
Bright side, I'm more than halfway there. Dark side, junior year EE is death. I got a 89 on a midterm retake, and had 16% over the second highest grade. .n.
I spent last summer as an engineering intern at a a major power company, and starting in January, I'm going to be a test engineer at a major automation company. Plus I've been talking with some very wonderful people about a job as a theme park engineer. I'm holding off on any announcements for now.
Next two weeks are gonna be awful, because finals, but after that, I hope to be more active on here, and get some more art :)
I'm on twitter for my random overlynerdy/obscene/offensive thoughts. Holla at supercellshark
And if you want to bother me more directly, I'm on telegram like every other furry. Username is the same as my twitter. supercellshark
I'll be back soon~

As my first Rainfurrest, as well as my first time in Seattle I'll be stuck between looking at the convention, people watching, visiting the city, and complaining that the weather is wimpy.
Where are you staying?
The Clarion!
Who will you be with?

Do you do free art?
Let me answer that question with a question.... Have you /SEEN/ me draw?
Do you do trades?
Again, crappy drawing = not a very good trade...but if you're down... xD
Do you do commissions?
I think this meme was more for people who are good at the whole /art/ thing...
Do you have prints/CDs?
GYes. Of all my autoCAD projects. Most of it isn't really furry at all...but if you want it, I'll make it look pretty for ya.
Do you do badges?
If someone wants, I'll try and draw them a badge on engineering paper...
Will you have art in the Art Show? General or Adult sections?
HAHAHAHAHAAAAA *cough* nope!
What is your gender?
*offended gasp*
MY....MY GENDER...
I'm a transposed genderplama hypertransiberian antidisestablishmentarianist honorificabilitudinitatibus polygender polymer based homogeneous pasteurized enriched with vitamin D energized homosexual dodecahedric transspecies zhit with 285.32 personalities.
Actually I'm just a guy. Really tall one. ᶜ﹕
How old are you?
19
Are you taken?
Yep! By the faaabulous
Waketheshark <3
Can I touch you?
If you have to ask, then...uh...WHY THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO TOUCH RANDOM STRANGERS?
Can I touch your friends?
Do I look like a pimp? No? good. Ask them. (social skills, by the looks of this question, ya'll need some work on them)
Can I talk about/do drugs in front of you?
To quote Daniel Tosh - Quit bragging about the pot you smoke, grow up and do coke like an adult. Illegal drugs are /still/ illegal drugs. I have no patience for them. Remember, every time you do drugs, God puts Nickelback on your pandora queue and on your favorite radio station.
Can I invite you out for food/fun/etc?
If I'm not doing anything important, mebbe :3
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
As long as you are currently sane/showered/sober, probably xD
Can I talk to you?
Sure, why not!
Whee all done! If you see a hella tall guy with brown curly hair, there's a good chance that it's me. I shall probably be complaining about the wimpy weather of Seattle, or bothering
Vortex_Lightgear and calling him a tittybaby dicknose. Because he is one.

Electrical Insanity
Posted 11 years agoSoooooo I bought a thing
Nothing much really
just a 2.5 kW DC power supply.
.-.
If you've ever wondered what kind of monster it takes to deliver a fatal shock, wield metal and launch a roller coaster - it's able to be bought off of eBay for $70 bucks.
Now, both me, my fraternity brothers, and the electrical engineering professors all have agreed that this power supply is probably in need of a thorough inspection before actually plugging it in. Because there's a rather high chance that this could start a major fire or knock out the local power grid if something goes wrong. In the words of the engineering dean "I both really want to see this, and really want to tell you to keep it off campus".
My kind of toy~
I also relieved an award from my fraternity due to my shenanigans over the last year. "Most likely to blow up the town. Hahaha not kidding"
#fratlifeyo
Pictures will come tomorrow, when my PSU gets here. Then put on your safety glasses, put 911 on speed dial and obey the hand in the pocket rule, because we're going to run 50 amps constant through anything metal I can get my hands on. >:3

Banshee Media Day!~
Posted 11 years agoWell, I thought it was...pretty swell!
I mean, I'm slightly biased towards Intamin ;)
I woke up at 1:30 AM, then drove down to Kings Island! (stopping at walmart because I did the thing [AGAIN] where there isn't any oil in the engine and now it's making scary noises)
It. Was. COLD.
It was low 30s, pitch black, and I had to stand in a monster line to check in. Still was pretty cool, chatted with some people.
They gave us free t-shirts, one of those laser cube thingies, and as muuuuch donuts and coffee as I could drink, as well as full run of the part of the park Banshee was in! I got a lot of really cool pics of the ride, gonna post a few in a little bit.
Coaster wise, it's definitely a very good B&M, although it has a similar problem with the tightening restraints. They don't ratchet down though, but it rubs your shoulders rather painfully.
I'd give it a 8/10 - for a B&M coaster, it's got some very intense parts, I like this direction they're taking!

You know that feel when you know you should say no, but you don't?
Well
Now I'm on 4 research projects for my university ;-;
Now not only am i trying to design positioning systems, I'm animating RGBLED cubes, designing 3D printer controllers, and helping with automatic mapping. Two of those projects are senior design projects that I got asked to help with because /I'm the only one on campus who knows how to do & has time to deal with GPS/. This shark is le overachiever
*flops over*
//whispers// I ees ded
Sharksuit is progressing. LSMs are progressing. I need to stop getting on projects lol. At least every professor in the engineering college knows me pretty well by now!
I also got another co-op offer...I can't do co-ops for another 2 years, so I'm hoping the flow keeps up so I can pick the best ;)
Oh yeah, its tuesday - ask away!~
*falls asleep and drools*

Engineering Sharksuit
Posted 11 years agoAt the halfway point of my roller coaster project ^^ this has been a great chance to learn about LSMs, electromagnets, CAD modeling, machining, 3D printing... I can honestly say this project has taught me more engineering techniques than all my college classes so far xD
Still I need to design and wind myself some electromagnets (around 70 of them), as well as design a PLC control system. Plus still need to do more 3D prints and assembly.
Alsooooo
I'm making a sharksuit.
And in true TFE fashion, it's going to be terribly overengineered - 0.04" aircraft grade aluminum with Lexan "near bulletproof" plastic eyes. Really going to blur the line between fursuit and armor. Woo!
Plan on putting a few design photos up as they come - the aluminum gets here Monday.
Follow me on twitter if you want, I guess. It's kinda fun. https://twitter.com/SupercellShark

Anthrocon! Plus click me if you want circuit boards plz
Posted 11 years agoWoo! I'm going :3 from the looks of it
Waketheshark and I will be the only sharks there .3. I was able to get good ol' CP to give me time off for wake and AC.
I'm in the middle of a few projects ATM, and they're going pretty swimmingly. Right now I'm making great progress on my roller coaster stuff, and I've been working on my own 3D printer. But I'm going to need to fab some PCBs for all my projects. So I may start a pool to get cheap PCBs made from a Chinese company. If you have something that you want made, give me a note, I'm going to be trying to fill a 155in^2 board (costs $110), and I don't have that many things I need PCBs for. So if you want a 3D printer driver, badges, anything, let me know ASAP!
Catch ya on the flipside!

ROLLER COASTERS!~
Posted 11 years agoSo I kind of forgot to mention it, but I'm a supervisor at Cedar Point now. So not only will I have to operate rides, but Imma have to train people/lead people on how to operate, as well as deal with the occasional angry visitor...
It's gonna be a great season~
In other news, if you are in the Ohio area, and you like roller coasters, SWEET MOTHER OF BUTTS YOU CAN GO TO KINGS ISLAND'S BANSHEE MEDIA DAY. FOR FREE. It ain't CP, but it's our sister park. And it's like in 40 days. And they usually have free food :D
That's right folks, a brand new B&M, longest inverted roller coaster OOOOOON THE PLANET.
Because we Ohioans love our world record setting coasters.
PLUS I'LL BE THERE AND WE CAN PARTY!~
https://www.visitkingsisland.com/banshee-media-day REGISTER TODAY!
seriously, do it today, registration closes at midnight
In other news, work on my custom LSMs is going fairly well. I won't be posting more pictures of the development (sorry) because I don't want TFE to be associated with my name, and because I'm too damn lazy to write ya'll a technical description of it. Mostly the second one. If you really want to chat about it, hit me up on skype.
So how are ya'll? :D

Personal Announcement + TMI Tuesday
Posted 12 years agoWazzup in dis heazy?
I got a bit of an announcement to make.
I've been looking at co-ops at my college, and also my endS career goals, and to hopefully boost my odds of getting into the theme park engineering industry, I'm going to be starting a pretty big project. The details are still in progress, but my end goal is a miniaturized LSM drive system. Unfortunately, LSM systems are both complex and expensive. This leads to the reason I'm making this announcement.
In order to allow me the most time to work on this project, I'm going to be much less active on FA and steam. I had been thinking of going back to L4D2, and even making a campaign, but it's something I can't justify the time for. I'll still be playing some games with a few people, but less often. If for some reason you need me, I'll still have skype (thefurrye).
The expense of LSM tech is also going to be tricky, considering I'm a college student who makes carnie wages over the summer. In order to make this work, I'm probably going to not be getting more commissions, at least in the near future. IGBTs and magnet wire are much higher priority than sharkpr0n to me.
Updates to come (in the form of CAD art and schematics).
And secondly...its that time of the week again...ask me things!
Anything goes~
[EDIT]
Almost forgot, also working (very slowly) on the lore behind Supercell, with a story/novel/long book type thing. My English teacher would be so proud.

So it's that time of year... 2013 in review
Posted 12 years agoWow. 2013 is over in less than 10 hours.
It's been a crazy year, but it's also been an amazing one.
Here's what I remember most about 2013, somewhat in order
Applied for Cedar Point as a ride op
Filmed a Harlem shake video
Talked with some jawesome sharks
Got in Gatekeeper's media day preview
Graduated high school
Learned how to operate roller coasters
Met Drake, as well as a few other amazing IRL Cedar Point furs
Survived the 4th of July at Cedar Point (was transferred to Cedar Creek for the week, shut down most of the day for rain)
Went to my first furry con (Anthrocon)
Had 200 rides on various coasters
Made great friends with people from Russia, Poland, China and Jamaica
Found an amazing boyfriend, Wake the Shark
Started college for electrical engineering
Played in the New York Columbus Day parade. Twice
Went to Chicago with Drake for MFF
Got towed in Chicago (FUCK YOU CHICAGO)
Turned 19
Applied for a second season at Cedar Point
Finished my first semester of college with a 3.4 GPA
Got an iPhone (I guess I'm one of those people now)
I also met a lot of really awesome furs through the magic of the interwebs~
in no particular order...
<- KITTY! YOUR STORE WAS LIKE 70 FEET FROM MY RIDE, WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY HI ;-;
<- Fellow Ride Op (and a massive ride whore)
<- Live E song & dance machine
<- SHUT UP MEG!
<- Fellow meganerd
<- Blue haired shark twin
<- Ninja animator/drawer person
<- Much better at fixing things than me .3.
<- Shark Nerd
<- she's mah clubbin buddy
I hope you all had a wonderful 2013, and that next year is even better! :D

once again FA broke. While various probable "problems" have been discussed, from the fact that server hardware is stuck in the year 2013, to sunspots, and potentially all the fault of fuckin' magnets (seriously, how DO they work?) I'm leaning towards the root being coding that would make even Dennis Nedry (fat nerd from Jurassic park) cry.
Lezbianist, you can't just throw money and hardware at a software problem.
Anyways, while you all tried to get along without your hourly shots of hardcore furry pornography, I did things...yay!
I applied for the 2014 season as a ride op at Cedar Point! How do you do this? Go here! -> https://jobs.cedarfair.com/cedarpoint/
I got a Weasyl account! Check me out here -> https://www.weasyl.com/profile/thefurryengineer
I joined a fraternity! THETA CHI! Actually, this happened a while ago...but still x3
I also tried to get along without my hourly shots of furry porn... it was hard ;3;
Also...TMI TWOSEDAY! ASK ME THINGS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO STUDY FOR FINALS

MFF (plus mechanical issues part 2)
Posted 12 years agoMidwest fur fest....definitely going to be a "convention to remember"...but not really for all the right reasons.
To quote Milly, it was a rather tumultutits experience.
I started my glorious con experience by leaving college two days early to drive to
's house, partied for a few hours, then the next morning we were off!
Actually, we made it about 1/2 a mile before my check engine light began flashing and the engine began to feel like it was rattling and stalling. I had never seen this happen before, so we made a u-turn to Autozone, who then recommended we see B&M mechanics. A quick check by them told us that my ignition coil was dead, to the tune of a little over a Benjamin. After they replaced the part, we were on our merry way! Drake and I made a stop at BGSU so I could get some Darlington transistors for a LSM gun I'm making (Drake thought we were going to be killed), then got into Chicago. Let me say, the whole highway is FULL of terrible people. I was trying to listen to Drake (whose GPS was shot, and kept sending us on new routes then losing its signal), and stay the speed limit, which apparently is optional, because everyone was passing us at 20 MPH over ;_;
Day 1 of the con was fun, saw Kage and 2 perform, met
and generally had a good time, until we got to the lot and found out that my car had been towed. Greeeeeeat. I remember a lot of cursing, and kicking a vodka bottle. Did you know vodka bottles are very heavy and hurt your foot when kicked out of rage? Because I learned that. After a walk through Chicago, we got my car back. Going to be calling the towers angrily on Monday, in the hopes of a refund. We were off by three spaces ;_: 584 vs 581
Day 2 was much better xD Hung out around the con, saw the fursuit parade, general party time.
Day 3 was the last day, I got some random stuff from the dealers den, then celebrated the ending of the convention with Giordannos. Such delicious.
After the con, Drake and I went to Shedd aquarium, then drove home.
Apparently my phone (which should have been replaced over the summer) decided to place a phone call to my parents halfway through the last day of the con. For those of you who know me, you'll know THIS HAPPENED THE LAST TIME I WENT TO A FURRY CON TOO. Wanted to throw my damn phone out the car when I found out :V
Ended up explaining furry to my parents and as usual, theeeeey didn't care. Best parents evar! XD
Going back to my college tomorrow (3 hour drive from my house to my college), and I'm going to have an influx of packages ;-; I've got a bunch of arcade boards I bought a while ago that finally shipped, a present for Wake, as well as other random stuff. Gonna need a wheelbarrow to carry it all xD
On the bright side, I may be a worker in my school cafeteria (gotta get that sharkpr0n money somehow), aaaaaand Cedar Point's application site has been taken down for maintenance....which means the application date is approaching for next summer!!!!1!1
Also, my old truck...the brake lines are shot ;-; they were put on top of the frame, so replacing them approaches the value of the truck, which already has 200K miles on it...so I may be ripping the radio out before it is sold :c I'll miss you, tiny Tim, you did well. o7

Mechanical Issues - aka TFE's weekend
Posted 12 years agoSo I took my car to a mechanic for an oil change. While I was there, the mechanic said my belt was cracking slightly. No huuuge problem, but considering I'm going to be driving a little over 1000 miles for MFF in 2 weeks, I thought I should take care of it. So when I drove home, I removed my car's belt and bought a replacement to find out that....it didn't fit.
Then after trying again, I learned that somehow the reworked car engine needed a belt 3 inches shorter than standard. However, because I didn't have the specialized tool to put the belt back on, the passenger side wheel had to be taken off, and the cover removed to put the old belt back. Not a huge problem.
That was when I noticed that the CV boot had broken free and grease was covering the structure of the car underneath. This meant that the CV joint - the part that gives the wheel power and prevents it from flying into the wild blue yonder at 50 MPH had no lube. Not a huge problem, I could take my old Suburban and my parents could take the car into a local mechanic.
However, I had to pick my little brother up from the mall with this truck. On the way, I noticed that I had to practically floor the brake before it would start to slow you down, a minor inconvenience indeed. Once I picked up my little brother from the mall, I heard a clunk, the brake failure light came on and I had to push the pedal allllll the way to the floor to start to slow down. This was in the busy mall traffic, so I promptly drove home, hoping that I wouldn't suddenly not be able to stop, where I parked and a puddle of brake fluid formed out of the rear of the truck.
So I drove 150 some miles to my college in the car with a bad CV joint, and let me say, when you're going 70 MPH, the steering wheel wobbled....a lot. It was like someone had strapped a thousand vibrators to my steering wheel, and now I'm trying to keep on the state roads.
Somehow I made it back to my college, and I'm going to a mechanic today x.x
On the bright side, only 10 days till I'm in Chicago for MFF! Or at least until I try to make it!
and I will be driving up together.
