Awesome Art, plus some gravity!

, she's the one who made the awesome "TFE wants big boom" picture! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11462422/
Today I learned a valuable lesson. My room has the cool chairs that you can lean back a ways and it will still hold you up. However once you lean past a certain point, you fall over backwards and bonk your head on the ground. Gravity and I have a bit of a love-hate relationship XD

Coming soon to Kings Island...
Posted 12 years agoThe official announcement is tonight at 10PM EST - the name and design of the new coaster at KI
However, I'm 80% sure I know what it's gonna be -
Name: the same name as my femshark
Manufacturer: B&M
Style: Inverted
World Records Broken (???): Tallest/fastest inverted coaster, most inversions for an inverted coaster
I'm leaning towards it being the name of my femshark (in scraps) because Cedar Fair (Kings Island's owner) had the name trademarked for a ride that we have, but the name was changed. The trademark is still owned by CF, so I assume they'll be using it now.

Shark Week 2013/Kings Island
Posted 12 years agoWell, considering that shark week is more than halfway over, I might as well play shark week storytime!
What's the best way for a coaster nerd shark to celebrate shark week? 2 days at Kings Island! Tuesday and Wednesday I got up at 6am, drove almost 4 hours down, then drove back to Cedar Point at around 3am.
To Kings Island fans - you guys might not have as famous of a park as we do, but damn, your coasters still kick serious butt!
Rode all the rides, including TWO "last dispatch" night rides on Beast. Best ride I've had on a coaster. Ever.
On Wednesday, I was roped (literally) into going on the Xtreme Skyflier - a freefall skycoaster with a 150 foot drop. I was drafted into pulling the ripcord on it, and I learned that I still am not a fan of heights. Once the initial screaming terror OHMYGODWHYAMIFALLING it was pretty cool.
Some people have asked me why we need shark week at all. Well, when you have films like "sharknado" and Soul Surfer showing people that sharks are bloodthirsty killers, people don't seem to object to the slaughter of sharks en masse. Shark finning is a VERY real threat to the survival of shark species, and even though some governments have banned the process, it continues today. You can read more about shark finning here: http://www.pewenvironment.org/campa...../id/8589941059
Stay sharky my friends~

Survived Anthrocon!
Posted 12 years agoStorytime!
FRIDAY:
O-7 at Cedar Point (working from 10am to 7pm)
I packed up the night before, but because of parking ban for fourth of july weekend, had to ride bus to parking lot farther away. Then I got to my car and my parents randomly decided to call and chat. Left the employee lot around 8:30, for a 3.1 hour drive. @.@ Had steak n shake for dinner (with a delicious milkshake) while driving, and because my car has a wonky CD player, I only had 1 cd to listen to - Rise by Skillet. Awesome CD, played it completely through 3 times on the way. XD Because of a joke/dare from
Triwolf90 I was wearing my ride op uniform while driving, so when I made 3 pit stops, someone would ask why I was so far from the park lol. Because I had been working a rather long day, I was fairly tired, so the trip was sponsored by caffeine! I got to Pittsburgh around midnight, then got slightly lost before parking in the hotel and going to the room. The sign I hadn't gotten lost was a guy with a blue tail who I almost flattened because I was so tired *.*
The hotel was really nice, and my roommates were.... interesting. XD We were obnoxiously loud, it was a blast
SATURDAY
Woke up, got ready, and went to my first furcon :3 Saw Kage, toured the dealers rooms, art show, all the good stuff, got drafted as a handler in the fursuit parade, went to Fernando's. Ran into
Adrielle-226, saw Kage's story hour (was awesome) and generally had an awesome time. One downer in the middle of the day, first didn't eat enough, so I got really dizzy, then ate, then got a bad stomachache >.<
I will say, Cedar Point has ruined me, I was saying "have a nice day" to eeeeeveryone. Oh well!
After Kage's show, I went to the zoo, and
Mint-Solstice and I pretended to be drunk party girls, while making Drake feel like he was the most sane person there.
Con stuff http://imgur.com/a/qiMeA
SUNDAY
Left the hotel around 9:40, to be in sandusky with enough time to drive and change for my 1:30 shift. Then I got to a 3-way fork, and picked the two wrong ways first, and had to backtrack a lot. Wound up leaving Pitt at 10:30. (FUUUUUUUU) I then proceeded to drive like Kage was chasing me, and shaved 30 minutes off my drive time.
Future plans
AC2014! Going to be going for the full time, the one day wasn't enough XD

╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━⊰♡AC THINGS 2013♡⊱━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮
~Because somehow I got time off on a massively busy workday, I'll be at AC!~
~I'll be there Saturday, possibly Friday night/Sunday morning if shifts click into proper times~
Where are you staying?
Driving up for the day!
What day are you getting there?
Saturday
Who will you be rooming with?
N/A
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
Random people, potentially
Triwolf90
What is the best way to find you?
Look for an obnoxiously tall person with brown hair.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Kage's story hour, anything else that looks interesting
What do you look like?
Tall guy with brown hair and a Cedar Point shirt
Will you be suiting?
Nope
Do you do free art?
If you want me to draw something for you with my crappy drawing skills .3.
Do you do trades?
What are we trading? O.O
Do you do badges/commissions?
With MS Paint, so probably not XD
How tall are you?
6' 5"
Are you in a relationship?
Yup
Can I talk to you?
Why not!
Can I touch you?
Uhhh... wat?
Can I visit your room?
Probably won't be staying overnight
Can I buy you drinks?
Not legally... I ain't old enough :I
Can I give you stuff?
Sure, why not
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
hug? ask. snuggle? ehhhh no
Are you nice?
Almost always, unless someone gives me a reason not to be.
How long are you going?
Saturday
Do you have an artist table?
hahahaha no
Will you be going to parties?
maybe, but I'll probably stand in a corner and pretend to use my phone. Or complain about overdriven speakers XD
Will you be performing?
That just sort of happens? Uhhhh, I can tell jokes/stories... but probably not, unless there's some kind of fight club-esque rule about "If it's your first time, you have to perform"
Do you have prints/CDs?
I have a few CDs of Shinedown and Evanescence that I'll be bringing so I can listen in the car...
Will you have art in the Art Show? General or Adult sections?
*laughs loudly* ME? ART?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
scream "HOLD TRAIN!" and put one arm over your head in a fist, then grab that arm's wrist with your other hand.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
It's not really a normal sketchbook... more engineering project book, but why not XD
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
If I tell you that you can, and on the pages that aren't devoted to projects, sure! :3
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Sure, if you're down
Can I take your picture?
Why not, give me some warning though, so I don't look insane
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Have fun, meet some people, steal the PA system and spiel loudly over it.

Choices
Posted 12 years agoOkay, so I finally found out when marching band starts at my college. Unfortunately, if I were to do band, I would need to move my Cedar Point contract by a 8 days, so that I wouldn't be full time during band camp.
I'm seriously considering not doing band, just because it would be a kind of big time commitment, and apparently the band director is a bit disorganized (which is a massive change from the carefully planned directors I've gotten used to lol)
Any suggestions?

Gatekeeper Review
Posted 12 years agoWOW! Gatekeeper did NOT disappoint!
Went up to media day, rode from 4PM-7:30 (with a break to walk to the back of the park).
Rode 13 times, front right, rear left and middle right are my favorite seats hands down :)
G-forces were great, I greyed out on the Immelmann several times, but my one complaint is the restraints. They are similar to a seat belt, except they don't unwind once the car leaves the station - my shoulders are raw from all the rubbing against the harness.
Oh, and funny story, on my last run (second to last car of the day), I sat next to the new Browns quarterback without realizing it XD
Cedar Point gave me a bunch of free stuff, a neat bag, free onride photo, and as many pictures behind the scenes as I wanted :3
This summer, if you can handle the line - ride Gatekeeper. It's very much worth the wait!

Boston
Posted 12 years agoThere are truly some messed up people in the world.
We shall overcome.
From Patton Oswalt's facebook:
"Boston. Fucking horrible.
I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."
But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.
But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.
But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.
So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

TFE's April Fools Joke
Posted 12 years agoWell, the first is coming around, and that means I must select someone to torture for my own (and others) amusement.
My little brother (12) is a fan of violent video games that he isn't allowed to play. So I plan on making my own little "viruses" (really just programs), and placing them on the desktop, with the icons and names of programs such as "call of duty" and "modern warfare 4".
Every time he clicks on one, it will restart the computer. I'm going to see how many times he'll fall for it.
Want to try it for yourself? Right click on the desktop, click "create shortcut" and paste "Shutdown.exe -r -t 00" exactly in without quotation marks. If you right click on the icon and choose properties and then "change icon", you can give it any icon you like.
Happy early April Fools Day!
Also, Tesla Coil parts were bought yesterday. About a week and I should be ready to build! :3

Musical Tesla Coil
Posted 12 years agoWell, after reading an article about Nikola Tesla, I was reminded of the project I started in October, where I had been working on designing a musical tesla coil. It reminded me that large sparks are fun, and it's been a while since I've thumbed my nose at Zeus.
For those of you who have never seen a tesla coil, it's basically a high voltage transformer that produces lightning. The bigger the coil, the bigger the spark! I wanted to make a musical coil, which mimics a standard coil, but uses an audio signal to modulate the current to the primary coil, producing a spark that vibrates in the air, just like a paper-cone speaker (found in every other speaker).
Wow, that's pretty nerdy :3 Here, have a video of 2 large audio tesla coils
I already bought the tube for the secondary (long orange shaft in the video), and aluminum ducting for the torus (where all the sparks jump from)
The only thing worrying me about this is the price - it seems too cheap. 8) With all electronics, this will end up costing about 100 bucks. 50+shipping for electrical components, and 25 for all the wire on the secondary, plus 25 for the pipe & duct. I'm excited :D

Cedar Point Stuff
Posted 12 years agoWell, filliing out all of my paperwork again because the sheets and forms got changed >.< At least now they're shorter and easier to do.
I'm finding out who I'll be rooming with, most likely a friend from my HS and someone he knows.
I also passed my background check, because I was always worried that they'd get the wrong person on accident and think I was wanted for grand theft helicopter XD
If anyone's looking for a summer job, I'd personally reccomend you apply at CP, they're a swell bunch :D
Check out:

chat with current employees if you have questions

My new least favorite site (Storytime!)
Posted 12 years agoRelax, it's not FA! XD
Yesterday, I was sent a link to the encyclopedia dramatica by one of my friends (about Gabe Newell). Below is pretty much what went down in a nutshell:
TFE: "This article is rather... unique, I wonder what they have about furries" *click*
ED: *Loads a terribly wrong & offensive entry*
TFE: (Faith in humanity falling rapidly) "Ah jeez, just another troll site, what's this?"
*A box saying "Click if offended" appears*
TFE: "Oh, they must actually try and maintain a good site, lets click it!"
ED: *Loads dozens of HORRIFYING gore images*
TFE: O.O "WTF IS THIS CRAP?!?"
*Another box appears, saying "Click if still offended"*
TFE: (Obliviously) "Well, maybe I got redirected on accident, I'll click on it and see what happens!"
{In hindsight} That was a bad choice. DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, KIDS!
ED: Begins attempting to copy an impressive list of racial slurs, expletives and other horrifying images into my clipboard
Internet Explorer: "Hey, a website is trying to put a lot of stuff on the clipboard, should I let it?"
TFE: "Shitshitshitshitshit NO!!
IE: "Okay!" *Denies ED all clipboard access*
ED: Begins voice clip saying "I'M WATCHING GAY PORN!" at full volume through my speakers
Speakers: *Already almost all the way off because I was using pandora*
TFE: "Okay, mute that, close tab!"
*Tab closes*
*McAfee toolbar pops up*
MA: "Yo, dawg, I found a trojan tryin to take over, what should I do?"
TDE: "DAMMIT! KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT!"
MA: "Alright brah!" *Removes trojan*
*silence fills my room*
TFE: "Thank the Lord that's over"
*Thermometer alarm (PC probe) pops up*
(I run an Intel i5, they do run hotter than AMD, but not very hot)
PCP: "HEY, YOUR CPU IS HITTING 99 DEGREES C!"
TFE: "MOTHERF**KER! TURN OFF! NOW!"
*PC turns off*
After dusting out my PC (which was slightly overdue, but not the root cause IMO), I have returned to the comfortable 30 degrees C that an i5 should run at. The virus is gone, and I have all of my internet programs set to block all links to ED.
IP Ban, block, burn, kill everything.
Morals Of The Story:
1. ED is now my #1 on list of things to throw heavy objects at
2. Internet Explorer isn't all that bad
3. McAfee isn't all that bad
4. Your CPU should not operate at the optimum temperature to cook pasta.
Always internet safely!

- Where did the name of your fursona come from?
Know what, I still haven't come up with a name for him besides Chao5. I'll have to work on that :| Chao5 comes from my projects, because usually much chaos is involved getting them to work.
- Why did you choose that species?
I like swimming, and I usually see sharks when I SCUBA dive. Plus I shock myself on accident every year or so - and fur burns.
- What color is your fursona and why? Hair/fur/eyes/etc.
Blue because I like the color blue, and red because I felt like it :P
- What is your fursona's personality and how does this compare to your irl personality?
Outgoing and adventerous, I'd like to think it matches my irl personality pretty well
- What is one item your fursona owns that is significant to you irl?
A 16GB USB drive! (No, not an implant, but now that I think about it, that would be useful...) I keep all my important files on it - designs, schematics, Minecraft etc.
- How has your fursona changed over the years?
Minor design changes/adding new parts
- How long have you had this fursona?
10 months or so
- Would you like to be more like your fursona?
Uhhh, yeah!

DIY Graphics Tablet
Posted 12 years agoWell, I finally got something that could be called a graphics tablet. It involves a wii remote, a cheap bluetooth dongle and a lot of luck.
Basically the idea is to have a pen type device that is equipped with an IR LED. The wii remote is placed in a fixed position and detects the IR light reflecting on the monitor, and various programs translate the data sent through the dongle into SAI.
However, I realized that I had lost my IR LED, and instead used the remote for my iPod dock as a pen. And because I didn't have anywhere to put the wiimote, I had it 8 feet away from the monitor (should have been 2-3 feet). In my profile picture, it was sitting on the top shelf behind me. So the wiimote was looking in a tiny area for an LED that was partially covered - meaning its accuracy was terrible.
I managed to draw a very lovely series of blueish dots on my monitor. Already my art skills have improved!

Furry Origin Story (and IB ranting)
Posted 13 years agoWell, the incredible boredom caused by making a pinball-friendly font made me think about something I haven't for a while - how I got into the furry fandom (also, why it's so hard to compress a font so it's letters are all 7x23 pixels).
To make a long story short - it was drugs.
Our section in marching band (tubas/sousaphones) usually has a party the night before we march the Football HOF parade. We party at someone's house, then go to a fast food place at midnight.
During my sophomore year, while at the host's house, one of the partygoers decided to do some pot. This kid would later go on to drop out of band, and nobody in our section really liked him.
So, deciding that we should move the party elsewhere, we left and one of the partygoers got out his phone to show us a video from
2_Gryphon, found here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMbKqtjv2vM
I loved the video, liked what he said, and after he showed us a few more of his videos (most of his video rants), I was hooked. After the parade, I googled him, found the crapload of rants on his website and downloaded them all. After listening to a handful, I came across some of the ones about furries. I think it was the one about Denny's, or the one about whining. The name "furry" was new to me, and after seeing the art on 2's site, I rather wanted to find out where it all came from. I followed a few YouTube related videos, finding more of 2's comedy, until I found Uncle Kage's explanations of the fandom. Some light Bing-ing was also used, but I never seemed to find the really bad stuff Kage kept talking about (Thanks MS!)
At that point, I was a fan of the furry fandom, but I never really had a chance to really "enter" it. Sophomore year I was in AP classes, and my Junior year I made what I still think was the WORST idea I ever had - taking the IB diploma program. Ever hear of IB jokes? Here's one for ya:
Rebel: Sneaks out/in of their house when they're supposed to be sleeping. IB Rebel: Sneaks around own house to print homework when they're supposed to be sleeping. When you say "real life is harder than high school" or "AP Physics is harder than any class you have ever taken", I laugh. I can't honestly tell if IB is an educational program, or a government-run study to see if you can make people willingly go without reasonable amounts of sleep in exchange for a 0.5 drop in GPA. True. Story. I basically had a "screw this" time of 1AM when I went to bed, because at 5AM I would go to school to get MORE HOMEWORK. The ONLY good thing that IB has taught me is how to very quickly write page upon page of BS about anything, and how to achieve an absolutely INSANE level of procrastination.
But I digress...
After I left school my Junior year, feeling great after dropping most of my IB load, I thought "Hey, I should come up with a fursona and join the furry fandom!". Fortunately, due to a program I had signed up for, I was going to be spending about 3 weeks in Cambodia! During the spare time I had (most of it in one week, where my nights were spent in a neon pink mosquito net), I created my fursona, a pinball machine design, learned 3 card games and taught myself how to shuffle cards. After I got back, the ninja-like power of my procrastination, along with the fact that I arrived back in Ohio to show up halfway through marching band practice season (I showed up halfway through band camp, and memorized 11 songs in 2 hours), delayed my joining the fandom.
Over Christmas break, I said "Come on, you meant to join FA 2 years ago, frigging SIGN UP!" And I did.
The fandom was really nice, I have seen so many talented people here, you all ROCK! The thing that impresses me most is the art though. I'm a rather bad painter/drawer/doodler. If you want me to draw something, it better be something like a roller coaster, computer, or something with nice square sides. I cannot yet summon the skill to draw animals like the way most of y'all do.
Well, dang that's a long and twisty backstory. Even Batman's backstory was shorter. But that’s how it all went down. Was the kid who showed me that first video a furry? I have no clue to this day. One of his nicknames was after a certain bear, but I think that was more because he dressed like a lumberjack (if the person who I’m talking about sees this, note me. You know who you are.). Maybe I’ll ask him someday, I mean, he did bring up furries a couple times in other conversations, around a few different people. Plus when I told him that I knew 2 was a furry, and didn’t seem concerned, he didn’t really deny that he knew about furries… bum bum BUUUUUM!
Wow, you're still reading? I don't really know how to end this...
The End, for now, I guess, stop reading this. I mean it.

iPod Nano
Posted 13 years agoWell, the day I had been dreading may be near - the day my trusty iPod finally fails. It's a nano, the version right before they put a camera on, with 8 GB of storage. One day, while trying to cram more songs onto it, I went into its internal files and found a bunch of videos that hadn't been deleted - and they took up a LOT of space. After erasing the files, I could place a lot more music on it, but now it's geting very confused about how I managed to cram 10 GB of songs onto a 7.41 GB drive. Plus it now is having problems connecting with my PC, because the contacts have been being bumped around for four years now. In all fairness, it's held up remarkably well - It's gone to Canada, Disney Land, Disney World, Cambodia, South Korea, the DMZ, California, Cedar Point, countless airplanes, road trips and bus rides, and been dropped more times than I could count. And it still looks pretty good for not having any protective devices on it.
I plan on resetting it completely over the weekend to see if that saves it, then I move onto a slightly more invasive approach...
