Alternatives to FA
General | Posted 18 years agoDuring recent outage I've had time to look into a few other furry sites for the times FA will be unavailable. I'll post my results here:
http://www.furryartpile.com/
A smaller version of FA and works much the same way.
Pros
Fast loading (perhaps due to it's small size.)
Search-able tags (Makes searching for specific items fairly easy.)
Allows writing
Cons
Writing must be in .txt, or html only. (The reader isn't the best either.)
Javascript often makes tag suggestions when tagging, or searching via tags which can be distracting and annoying.
Recommendation
High
http://us.vclart.net/vcl/
The largest collection of furry art and stories.
Pros
A whole library of items to look through.
Allows writing, (I've even seen .doc files there.)
Cons
All promotional, so not much community.
Hard to recognise the artist or writer your looking for because there's no avatar to the name.
recommendation
Moderate
http://www.artspots.com/
An art enthusiast site.
Pros
Fairly well organized and collected.
Fairly good browsing and search functions.
Cons
No writing, seriously I've searched up and down that site, not a one.
Recommendation
Only for the art enthusiast.
http://www.yiffstar.com/
Adult story site.
Pros
Allows majority writing, and some art.
Cons
Writing here isn't all that great, perhaps I've become spoiled but some people there should at least try to make an illusion of understanding written English; (I've rarely found diamonds in this rough.)
A little too adult oriented, a little variety and some more general stories would be nice every now and again.
Slow loading; seriously it's half the speed of FA and that's on a good day.
Recommendation
Low
Those are the fou I've looked into, if anyone has any others they'd like to suggest please do so.
Also Dragoneer, you still run the best fur site I've seen, FAP comes only in a close second; damn you for being so good!

The people on FA who inspire me.
General | Posted 18 years agoOne thing Krennar and Joey have quite right, we do have people here who inspire and connect to us, and I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge those who have for me. So in no particular order:
poetigress You've been a good judge of my writing, and have helped made it all what it is now. For that I thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
little_joey You've been there all the time, and have been a good reader to my works.
tenza The ideas and inspiration you've given me has been so helpful.
Krennar You've always been fun to chat with, and I hope you'll keep following my stuff in the future.
foxamoore Without your music I don't know if I'd ever be able to write, so that alone I have been grateful for.
mehz You made my characters a reality. You've been the greatest help there.
sharra You've helped me remember and regain sight into who I am, all I have to say is thank you.
al_brann and
evil_cleric I can't mention one without the other and you two have been good followers of my work.
vixyyfox Oh god I almost forgot you, you've been so fun to talk to I should slap myself for such trippy memory. Thanks for reading, and commenting on my works.
And last but certainly not least, all of you who have been watching so far, I do hope to show some fruits of my labor in the coming days for all of you.

Hybrids (serious question)
General | Posted 18 years agoI've been seeing a lot of hybrids, in both artwork and stories and I've been wondering what hybrids are possible and what one are impossible, especially when it comes to anthropomorphic characters.
For instance would a wolf be able to crossbreed with a fox? A hyena with a dog? A tiger with a wolverine? Or can anthros crossbreed with humans?
I'd like examples of both real world crossbreeds, and fictional, I know a few that are possible, and impossible, but not all.
Possible Crossbreeds that I know of that are still fertile:
Dog + wolf
Tiger + Lion (aka Tigon, or Liger)
Possible Crossbreeds that are infertile:
Horse + Donkey (Mule)
Impossible Crossbreeds:
Tiger + Skunk (Famous example: ZigZag)
Cat + Wolf
Rabbit + Deer
Please provide your answers and examples, I'd like to hear them.

I'm sure most of you know...
General | Posted 18 years agoBy now that a fairly large and overblown drama fest has occured in the journal of a certain artist here in which he has in my opinion degraged every artist I know here. To adress this matter I don't much care for his opinion but here's the reply I wrote to him on his page.
(No I didn't write it in the journal because that thing takes a bitch to load!)
"I don't nomally follow the drama mongering crowd but here you seem to have yourself confused.
Certification does not make an artist, it's the determination to improve one's technique that makes an artist.
And that's why I like this site. Artist here, (yes I refer to them as such) continue to strive to improve themselves in thier art. They do so without a fancy paper or title. Even Davinchi wasn't certified, and he was one.
So in your blind arrogance you have alienated artist the world over, you will forever be remembered in the annals of ED for this, you may have talent, but it's worth nothing without good credit to those who strive to better thier talents as well. Didn't you start out as an unknown as well? Think on that if you will.
Fairwell sir."
To all the artist I watch, to all those who watch me, to all the writers and musicians I know, everything we do is art, continue to do your best and improve with every peice of work you do, for that makes you true artist.
Good day and good luck to you all.

Critique is bad :(
General | Posted 18 years agoA few days ago I was browsing through the writen submissions, as per my usual once a week search for good writing. When I came upon one that was absolulely horribly writen, and I don't mean just a few errors here and there I mean the entire story was a travesty to the english language. However instead of telling the writer such, or moving on, I decided to give the writer an example of how his writing was flawed, and an example of how to correct such writing. Apperently the writer did not appreciate this.
The writer recently sent me a PM which reads:
If you didn´t like my work, why don´t you do better? Or just do me a favor and shut up and don´t stay just criticing
All I did was give an honest opinion, does that make me a bad person? Am I a horrible writer as well, no better then the person I judged? I'd like to hear thoughts and ideas from other writers and artist as well.
Either way, the moral of my story; don't read fanfictions on FA. :(
