"To those respectfully addressed:
Hi, my name is Kenneth, but my furry name is actually Travis. I have been attending FWA since 2006 and I have had a blast every year, mainly because folks in the furry fandom are some of the most expressive and artistic individuals I have ever met! However, with all of the parties and binge drinking that goes on at cons, con attendees are putting themselves at risk for having unsafe sex. Furries, like any other kind of artistic subculture, are sexually expressive; however, and I can speak for my own generation especially, many are also uninformed about protecting themselves from the risk of contracting STIs/STDs.
With that said, I would like to propose a panel event to be scheduled at next year's FWA to promote Safe Sex Awareness. At my university, I regularly hold safe sex and sexual identity seminars when working with the LGBTQ Committee, so I have local resources to rely upon for condom access. In this panel, I would be informing the attendees about the risks of STIs, possibly with a powerpoint that contains vital information regarding each major infection. Similarly, I would be handing out custom-made pamphlets with furry art and bags of condoms (both male and female) to the attendees of said panel. I have spoken with other pals of mine about this idea and it's a possibility that two other people would be holding this panel with me to assist with the powerpoint and answering questions. If possible, I would also like to hold a demonstration (with a banana or something of course) on how to properly situate a condom.
I have questions, though: I have been informed that FWA is a "PG-13" convention, but there are con attendees sometimes running around in fetish gear and latex. That grounding wouldn't prevent me from holding a panel oriented towards safe sex awareness, would it? Similarly, what rules and regulations apply to a panel of this nature? Would the panel be considered a "safe space" for those who are willing to talk about their personal experiences? Should attendees be required to sign a waiver as a safety measure for privacy? Also, if allowed, could this panel be held during a time slot where more people would be able to attend?

Safe Sex/STD panel at a con, maybe?
Posted 13 years agoSo I was discussing this with some folks both at FWA and over the phone after leaving the con and I think it's about time that someone at a furry convention holds a safe sex panel. People are fucking like rabid animals at these conventions and barely wearing protection, and, I mean, if you need proof of this, take for example all of the HIV scares that have popped up at previous cons/events. To be fair, I think the emphasis on abstinence in grade schools is really to blame for this sort of ignorance, especially considering most kids in my generation were barely introduced to one year's worth of sexual education in grade school (which was the case for me).
Anyway, here are my questions for you dudes: What kind of things can and cannot be discussed at convention panels? Is it possible to hand out condoms freely during a panel designated specifically towards safe sex education? Would whoever is holding the panel with me be able to demonstrate how to properly situate a condom onto a penis (by use of a banana or dildo)? Is talking about the different kinds of STDs/STIs that can be avoided by using a condom going too far?
Also what is up with this claim that FWA is PG-13??? Posted 14 years agoOverall, I think that MP was worth going to, but the con itself was lackluster as always. I think being able to see all of my friends in Orlando (and some from Atlanta) really made up for the hassle of driving down there and taking homework with me.
And well, here's what I did I guess...
Friday: We started driving really late, like around 6pm. Ended up eating dinner at Steak N Shake and had the best strawberry milkshake ever. Finally made it down there a little after midnight, got into the room, and got really drunk before we spent the rest of the night at the pool. Passed out in bed, still drunk, soaked with pool water.
Saturday: Surprisingly, I woke up without a hangover! I realized that that I still had to finish my homework so I drank a bunch of coffee, took an adderall, and went to town. Finished half of my final exam by 4pm and went to Publix with
media after the fursuit dance competition was over. Made it back to the hotel and sang really bad karaoke at the pool. Sadly, I decided it was best that I return to the hotel room to finish my final exam, which I spent another four hours on. By then, it was 4 in the morning and I had a one-on-one conversation with a friend right before I passed out at 6am (or later, maybe it was 7am. Whatever).
Sunday: Woke up feeling like a mess. I felt really good about finishing my final exam the night prior though, and I honestly think this was my favorite day... but mainly because we were finally leaving. Hung out with a bunch of friends in their room and then went out to dinner with some folks. On the way home, we stopped in Daytona to chill with some of the driver's buddies. And finally, we made it back into Savannah.
I miss everyone! I hope everybody made it home safe and sound.

HOWEVER, depending on who you are, I may or may not add you if you have furry art as your profile picture...

I met so many amazing folks and had such fantastic experiences that I will never forget, and I love you all for it! Anyone else dealing with horrible PCD after AC?
Posted 14 years agoI can't even begin to describe how crummy I feel after returning home from Anthrocon this year. I believe it all boils down to a.) how much fun the weekend was and b.) my sudden realization that there are more than just a handful of people who love and appreciate me as equally as I do them. And yes, I totally sobbed a little bit last night. :< Like a big ol' babycat.
I really hope everyone is doing okay and dealing with the week after on swell terms, but please please please please stay in touch guys. I miss every single one of you and a little piece of me died when I came home on Tuesday morning.

We might need another roommate in the Westin for AC!

My question: is there one person in need of a room space? It's a single king size bed room with a queen size air bed! I'm honestly going to be picky about who I let stay with us simply out of sheer necessity but I wanted to see if any of my friends are in need! Let me know by shooting me a note and we'll talk money. :>

Posted 14 years agoThis con was nice! I'm surprised actually, because it was much smoother and more fun than I expected it to be. I was particularly bummed about going to a Florida con without kilcodo (because she's my heterosexual life partner), but I'm SO glad I went down. I drove down with locals 
badkittyamy and 
toraie and we got there at around 6pm on Friday (AFTER GETTING IN THE WORST TRAFFIC EVER ON I-4). After making a stop at Publix for beer and subs, my con started!
I met up with
failferret, 
remywolf, 
gw0lf, Huski and their other roomies! Remy and 
ssirrus were kind enough to let me sleep in their rooms all weekend (what dollfaces) ! I honestly find memories from this weekend a bit fuzzy so I'll just cut it short from here on out. Tiny details ahoy!~:
-Tiny Bootsie with Remy.
-Too much PBR (among other things).
-Giving a straight man his first back massage ever.
-Doing yoga with Arti.
-POOL PARTY
-Staying in the pool and hot tub until like 5 or 6am.
-Staying up all night with Trish and having a late-night bonding experience (go go sleeping troubles).
-HANGIN' WITH MAH PALS

a) The fact that the servers are slow as shit
[and]
b) There's really not that much to do on that website.You can't even post journals for fuck's sake.
So I'm curious to see how long this site lasts before it basically ends up like any other alternative furry social networking website. WE'LL SEE.
