Gotta write a draft version of all 20+ pages of this Thesis thing by Friday of next week (Oct 23), plus I still have yet to gather survey data. Once finished, then we have to get it reviewed and do some editing and stuff. So I'm going to be worse-than-not-available-at-all for the next several days.

I'm sitting on a few completed sketches, waiting to be modified and/or inked, so I might just upload one or two of those to keep you guys entertained while I'm away.

There's also one completed piece I'm going to TRY to get up this weekend.

That's right folks, it's that time of the semester where I have absolutely NO other choice but to dedicate my every waking hour to the work necessary in order for me to get the fuck out of college. It's only two months, and then it'll all be over. Permanently. Never going back to that hell-hole again.

So for the time being, expect to see little if anything from me. Sketches will be the most I produce from now until December. Except for this one piece I already have nearly completed coloring. But aside fro that, sketches only. I'll have quite literally one hour to my name per day at the rate they're piling the workload on me XD.

I'll be around and stuff for those of you who talk via messenger/Skype... but expect me to drift/ignore/forget you in the process of me completing assignments :P

I've been working on a few things in the background whilst attempting to get my shit together for the beginning of this semester in college. Many of you probably know about how I shot my mouth off at Muzz earlier today without first FULLY reading an ENTIRE journal she wrote. I'm apologizing to her and everyone, and I'm moving on. But first I need a break from the Internet because of some personal issues and anger haunting me from my dealings with  solemntear years ago. Also my final semester in college is approaching and it's got me scared to death.

I promise you there will be new art when I return, so please be patient!!! I'm sure all of you can understand how stress and drama can get to be dangerous when mixed together.

The little bit of art I produce in the course of the upcoming months until December will unfortunately be the most you guys get out of me. Also most projects will be put on hold. Here's why:

TL;DR VERSION: I'll be damned busy getting my little arse out of college. Once I graduate I'll have a LOT more time. Hopefully.


LONG VERSION:

I'm starting to have less and less time to myself with my independent study coming to a close. I'm having to prepare for my final semester of college (yay..... wait, no. BOOOOOO). Yep, it's gonna be an assload of work, but hell it'll be the last time I ever have to set foot on a college campus for a class.

This upoming semester (a month away) will unfortunately be my final senior semester.... and you know what THAT means. If you guessed "Thesis" you'd be correct. This essentially means I'll have the next three months to come up with some bullshit theory that nobody's ever come up with before and actually prove that my theory is true. Wheeeeee I'm gonna have fun with THAT XD

Thusly, all projects save for the 2010 Playmates Calendar are on hold. This includes the comic, the Flash short, the interactive girly-bits guide, tutorials and any other long-range project that's gonna take me an immense amount of work to complete.

The semester will be approximately 16 weeks in length. The first 8 of those weeks will go toward the thesis, while the latter half will go toward preparing us for this so-called "Exit Exam" that's supposed to cover material from all of the core classes in our curriculum since the day we set foot on campus.

It's their two last attempts to prevent us from getting a degree and thus completely render our 20,000 dollar education investment useless. BUT THEY SHALL NOT SUCCEED!!!!!! VICTORY SHALL BE MINEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! XD

So my laptop is reloaded and configured the way it SHOULD have been to start off with. Got all my little ducks in a row now, with everything just where I want it for easy access. I'm quite used to the look and feel of Mac now that I've been doing video editing in Final Cut Pro for the TV station, so I got about as close to the operation of a Mac as mechanically possible with WindowsXP. I like to call it "MacXP" LOL

Anyway, my tablet has been reinstalled along with Photoshop CS2 and SAI. So all should be in order for new arts to start appearing here within the next couple days.

... you know, the time of month when I have to reinstall the factory settings on my laptop because I load too much shit on it and it starts bogging down. Okay so maybe I'm exaggerating how often I have to do it, but I will say it's probably more often than 99.999% of the population who own a computer. I have WAY too many programs that I use on a regular basis and they all generate scratch/temp files that take up assloads of space. So yeah, instead of de-fragging and messing up all my file allocations, I'm just going to back up what little bit on here is vital data and start over again.

Has it SERIOUSLY been a MONTH since I uploaded last?!?! Damn, I REALLY need to do something about that tonight. Yay for new artings (hopefully if my hand wants to cooperate with my brain...)

So yeah for the past two weeks I've been steadily entering song titles and artists into a music scheduling program as well as testing out a broadcast-quality music player. Between the two of these programs, I've essentially got most everything needed to do broadcasting... at least as far as software goes. The other stuff, like transmitters, towers, buildings, rent, licenses and paid staff all cost hundreds of thousands (maybe even millions of dollars) that I obviously don't have :P

So yeah, now that I've finished THAT little project, I can get back to artz. As I promised, there's a little forgotten surprise involving my character Jordan that I'll be uncovering for all of you here pretty soon :D And maybe, just maybe I might tackle that list of giftart that I've been forgetting/putting on hold pending some information I need from a person who has seemingly disappeared... again. Yeah I'm thinking about simply skipping that one for now and tackling the rest. Apologies to those who've been waiting!!!

First of all, for those of you who have me on messenger, I'm quite busy most of the time. However, do not feel afraid to drop me a line. The worst that can happen is a severely delayed response from me. But unfortunately for those of you on Yahoo, I'm going to be offline for an extended period. YIM finally kicked the bucket on me and refuses to sign in.

Secondly, I will begin ustreaming again now that the stupid fad is gone. Finally it can be used as a teaching/demonstration tool, the way it was INTENDED to be used from the start!

Thirdly, my comic is coming rather slow. I'm still unable to decide if I should produce the rest of it in full color or black-and-white. Also the script is at a dead standstill, and I need to gather some ideas from various places.

Fourthly, all your base are belong to me.

Fifthly, I've got a rather interesting surprise involving one of my characters coming up in the next few months here. I totally forgot about it. So be on the lookout for that.

Lastly, there will be some changes made to my artworks, namely that I've ceased to use the DigiMarc encoding due to file-size problems. 500kb for an image that is 98kb without the encoding just doesn't work for me anymore. Also I will be uploading some things to dA and Sheezy here in the next few weeks. I'll also be working even more with design involving multiple species, as well as a few possible digressions into human anime characters.

And as a final remark and a sort of side note, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to whomever it was that linked to my site. Traffic to it increased drastically a few days ago, and is holding out steady. And of course, a large thank you to all the new subscribers I've gotten recently.

TL;DR I'm explaining the nit-picking details about why I do things the way I do, and I want to know if you think these methods lend to better or worse character design than others.

I'd truly like to think that I'm among the pioneering artists that are take the Cartoon Animal to the next and possibly highest level. My goal has been to develop the quintessential character, the kind that meets the absolute midpoint between ease of rendering and truly stunning visual quality. So far I have only touched lightly on the ideas I have in my head. However, the more I progress artistically I'm finding I can render images that are a closer representation of that perfection.

Breaking my designs apart and analyzing piece-by-piece, one might notice a hybrid of stylized elements and purely realistic human anatomy. Faces and eyes are derived from styles common to Warner and Disney, while the flowing hair is more representative of Japanese anime. As with the faces and ears, the three-fingered hands and three-toed feet are very much animation-inspired. However, the remaining portions of the characters' bodies, such as the neck, the arms and the legs are all based purely from realistic anatomy. To me, it is this combination that lends itself to the ultimate design.

One might also notice this thing I regard as my own "style" is actually a culmination of many different artists' works whom I've studied over the past 5 years. For example, the facial style from a full-frontal angle comes from my studies of Candy Janney's work ( http://candypalmer.deviantart.com ). The 3/4-profile shots originate from my studies of works by Megan Giles (  dustmeat ) and Erin Middendorf (  dingbat ). The foot style comes mainly from my study of works by Shannon Henry ( http://www.bluecrashkit.com ), while the slender hands come purely from my studies of Giles' work. The eyes are more of a blend between anime and Disney styles than anything else, while the ears are quite obviously derived from designs by Michele Light (  michelelight ). Full-profile shots of the face are mostly my own interpretation of things, and I'm still developing a style for that angle as it stands.

My methods of design are also purely linear-progressive and mathematical in nature. By linear-progressive I'm referring to the proportional precision I attempt to achieve with each piece. Mathematically speaking, I tend to break characters down into numerous geometric shapes and base curves. For example, I can define the precise silhouette of a buttock by drawing a single line curved exactly the way the outline would realistically. This is done from memory based on hours of figure studies. I only use reference photos for pose ideas and to ensure proper proportion. Line placement is strictly planned out via proportion guides and drawn from memory, one curve at a time.

And because of my mathematical/geometric approach to character design, I'm naturally able to convey 3-dimensional space and perspective, especially when placing a character in an environment with many converging lines (such as a table, counter-top or shelving units).

So there you have it. I've pretty much spelled out everything with regards to my design methods, I hope this helps all of you to better get inside my head and figure a few things out.... and maybe give you a few ideas for design yourself :3

Major apologies for lack of art last week and the beginning of this week. I realized I haven't been drained of creative energy at all. It has simply manifested itself as musical talents instead of visual. But as the song project comes to a close and I enter the grueling month-long "mastering" phase, that creative energy has shifted itself back to visual arts. I hope.

So I got this random email from Wikia (my messenger put up a notice that I had an email) and I opened it to find my page on WikiFur had been edited to read "The Real Gayest." I busted out laughing. I seriously think that's funny because it actually fits. Gay is an intensifier... "The Real-gay-ist" in the same sense that "fuckin" is an intensifier in "Abso-fuckin-lutely" Or something like that. Seems more like a pun on gayEST and IST than anything else. Haha somebody made a cheap pun.

Anyway, my question is this: Are there any other people out there having this same issue? Or is it only me? Not that I mind it happening because it is close to April Fool's after all and I can take a joke. But I'm kinda thinking it's a real problem plaguing that Website and might be beyond moderator control.

I kinda lost my will/ability to put pen to tablet and pencil to paper there for a while, I think I may finally be back up to my regular standards now. This happens every so often. I go for a while producing piece after piece like a freight train, and then it kinda derails and has to be put back on track for another trip.

Let's just hope I don't get a zero on it for something as miniscule and stupid as one side of the parenthesis of a citation being missing. Oh yeah.... I've got that kind of an all-or-nothing professor. Come on guys, you fellow college students know exactly what I'm talking about. It goes without saying. :P
