Hey guys.

I took some time off Life & Sanity to try and enjoy the holiday, so that's why the posts aren't going up regularly. I'll be back on the blog after the 1st, for those of you who are regular readers. (BTW, more of you should read ;) )

I got some sweet stuff this year. A pair of wonderful boots from my father, a new monitor, a stocking full of candy, a new pair of binoculars. A nice haul for how absolutely terrible the economy's been on everyone I know.

Sadly, while the monitor works (tested with the working VGA port, it's great!) I can't get it to work at the same time with my other two monitors. (I've a widescreen HANNspree on HDMI, a square ViewSonic on VGA, and the new one, an NEC, on the other VGA port.) I'm going to go see if I can get my damned rig to recognize the input.

[UPDATE]: Seems I just need a DVI-to-VGA adapter or a DVI cable. Just some nonsense about not able to be using onboard ports whilst using discrete ports.

[UPDATE 2]: Doesn't work with DVI. This is stupid. Eyefinity means, among other things, hardware support for 3 monitors.

So much has gone on in the past few few weeks. Part of it has been moving, as I mentioned in my prior Journal. Another part has been post-moving Internet access struggle. And the furniture obtaining trips, and the storage shed emptying trips, integrating a new cat and looking for a new job, and trying to relax a little bit with a game now and then. I have, long story short, fallen far behind.

But it looks like things are normalizing again. I was able to find time today to treat a few pieces of my current leatherwork project, they're drying as I type. As far as whose project, well, that'll be made clear when I have pictures to post.

So I've been moving, s'why I've been gone. Still don't have reliable access, but I have a semi-solution now.

A few days ago I went down to the local shelter and adopted an adorable little runt. Pictures will be up a little bit later.

Funny thing, I wanted a kitten, but found the perfect little adult cat.

Almost 100 hours of work coming up. I am somewhat leery of how exhausted I'll be...

But, well, all but the first 40 will be time and a half.

So.... we're all pretty hardcore gamers. [In case you're reading this and you aren't accurately described by that, this post IS NOT FOR YOU. Go away and hug a tree, my non-gaming friends. I'll join you another time, worry not.]

And we glamorize ourselves with guns and swords and body armor.... well, there's nothing wrong with that, I'm not going to get into the mental weirdness of this practice as It'd be hypocritical to do that and not judge myself. Anyway...

Why is it we don't glamorize our loyal and steadfast companions, our gaming rigs? [Consoles are more difficult due to being more standard.] Why is there not warrior-sidekick fanart of these awesome rigs we build and rely upon?

SOMEONE FIX THIS SHIT, I WANT GLORIOUS WARRIOR-SIDEKICK COMPUTER ART. [I'm crazy.]

Another very basic project completed. I'm still feeling the relative lack of tools, but at least I'm not nearly as sore as the last one. And this was quite a bit more complex, so lose-win-win is still a good place. :)

I just finished a single-frill smoker's pouch with an extremely simple belt loop and no lid. Took me maybe 3-6 hours (subtracting the smoking that I must currently do outside) over 2 days. In related news, I've just about destroyed the phonebook with my awl and needles. Hmm.

I can't believe it. I went to the leather outfitters in the next town over where we do our shopping, and I found two of the essential tools I needed(awl and stitch wheeler), used and cheap and solid. I can't show you guys pictures because I'm having trouble uploading.

These would have cost me $40 or so, plus shipping, over at Tandy, and I got them for under $2. WOOHOO!

I see a lot of people dicking around their clients, and a lot of artists beware posts. I don't want to ever come across like that. My goal is to produce quality items and to make my customers happy. I want you guys to know that I take this seriously.

So here's my oath as a crafting artist.

-- I will not charge excessive profit, and my invoices will include breakdowns of the cost I am charging you, including how much profit I get.
-- I will be honest about how much time I need, always.
-- I will finish and ship your items on time, barring exceptional circumstances.
-- I will communicate with you at every stage. Nothing ships without an approval on final photo.
-- I will do repairs on any of my work, for life, in return for repair and shipping cost. I will not profit on repairs.

So I just finished (well, the strap remains to be done, but that's next to nothing) my first leathercraft project in a damn long time.

It's very basic, just a a holster for  roninkoneko's asthma inhaler SO SHE ACTUALLY REMEMBERS TO CARRY THE MOTHERFUCKING THING. :D

Unfortunately, I didn't have the proper tools, so it didn't come out as nice as I would have liked, but damn if it isn't motherfucking solid. It also took much longer than expected due to lack of tools: 90% of the damned day.

I'm not going to do anything much more complex until I get tools, but I think I might shell out for a fucking snap press tomorrow.
