So, I decided that I want to enter a couple of pieces into the art show of RMFC next year, August.

I was thinking of buying 3 - 5 small canvases and painting a variety of feral animals on them, probably surrounded by trees or grass or other nature scenes.

I realize that foxes, wolves, and big cats are very popular among furries, but I'm not trying to make a profit here, I'm trying to provide more variety of species to the art show and get some practice with acrylics as well. I would prefer to play to my strengths and paint feral, real-world animals with natural colorations.

What are your suggestions? Feel free to pile them on me, I'm open to anything at the moment ~

Just got out of a six-day hospital stay yesterday. got escorted by the police to the ER on Wednesday night (it wasnt an emergency requiring an ambulance, but i couldnt drive in the snow to the ER, either)... 8 hours later, of which I remember very little, I was admitted to a nearby facility and given a bed.

I stayed until yesterday afternoon. I had a really bad reaction to some meds I was on and in the hospital they fucked up my meds again before getting me off the bad stuff. I'm still having trouble sleeping and I got some gluten from the hospital cafeteria and got fucked up from that a bit too. My mom and sis visited but I didnt have access to my cell or internet the whole time I was there.

I'm better now, living w/ my mom for a week or two while I recover and get some follow up from specialists.

I started doing art again in the hospital (mama and sis brought me crayon and paper) and I am trying to get back into acrylics, watercolors, and digital art. it's my best coping skill w/ physical pain and mental stress that I've got. . . .

I'm still sick, and I don't know how long I will be sick. If I'm not active around here, that's why.

Everything is going to be okay, but it's going to take some time, that's all.

My art uploading has been slow of late because I've been sick.

On Thursday I spent TEN HOURS in an emergency room, only to come out of it with two prescriptions and a "diagnosis" that I already knew.

The good news is that the medication, plus my family being extra nice to me now that they know I've been sick (I hadn't been telling anybody), seems to be helping, and I'm slowly regaining the ability to function in my daily life again.

Today I plan on finishing my filing cabinet project, so that's some good news ~

I have decided to open for special Halloween-themed commissions! This year I will be making half skull badges--any character, any species! The badge will consist of your character's normal face on the left-hand side and your species' bare skull on the right-hand side. No blood or gore will be present (making the badge suitable for all ages). They will have your character's name in a spooky font underneath and have a black background. See below for examples!

These badges cost $13 each, a discount from my regular badge prices, and an appropriately spooky number XD. They should be printed and laminated in time for Halloween, unless I get overloaded with orders, in which case they will be laminated in batches and shipped as soon as they're finished. Shipping will be slightly extra for postage depending on your location; add 50 cents for a badge clip.

So, I just went through and updated all the prices for my commissions, and edited my TOS. You can find my Terms of Service here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....it?usp=sharing

I based the new prices off approximately $8 per hour, which is the legal minimum wage in Colorado. That means everything has gotten slightly more expensive--badges used to be $10, but now they're $16, for example. Eventually I will create one of those visual price sheets with examples and prices all together in one place, but for now all I have is the commission tab above and my TOS.

I believe my art is at a level now where I should be allowed to pay myself min. wage, so there you go. I work very hard on my commissions and I am committed to customer satisfaction!

I'm also announcing a new commission type: Your Fursona As a Sloth! These are colored sketches and only $10 each. For these I will take your fursona's colors, markings, and accessories, pick a sloth species to match them, and draw them as a sloth with their same colors, markings, and accessories. Examples can be found below:

I fully intend to write a full con report for this con, but it will take some time to put together! First of all because I'm *still* exhausted from the weekend, and secondly because I've been bumped up to 40 hours a week at work, full time, so I have less free time than I used to!

(NOTE: I am NOT complaining about *all men*. There's tons of wonderful men in my life, and the men I call my friends? well I don't make friends with sexists so you're cool w/ me. Aki that means you too, this isn't directed at you :P)

I'm just about going to rage-quit every furry forum I'm a part of because these misogynistic men keep showing up and dominating conversations about women and female issues. Remember that kid who went out and killed people after writing like a 100+ page dissertation on how much he hated women and was going to slaughter them because they wouldn't touch his dick? Both threads about that on the FA forums and Weasyl forums were *full* of dudes who for some reason felt like that topic was a good place to complain about women, feminists, tumblr social-justice-warriors--while making excuses for MRAs and anti-female hate groups. LIKE WTF GUYS. And every. thread. about feminist issues turns into a feminist hate-fest and people calling teenage girls skanky/slutty if they wear short shorts and insulting specific women and bullshit like that. I added so many people to my "ignore" list on FAF after one particularly bad thread now I can't see what half the forum posts (good riddance tho'. FAF is kinda known for attracting trolls and assholes).

Like, for the most part IRL my interactions with furry men are just fine. I've been on the recieving end of some creepy romantic overtures from straight male furs, and "eww-girls-are-gross" immature behavior from gay male furs, but mostly the men are all right. The creepiest dudes are pretty easy to avoid 'cause you can see 'em coming from a mile away, or they don't speak and just sit around in conrners wearing ratty fursuits w/o the head and leering at everybody.

But goddamn the worst of the worst come out on the internet, holy shit.

I'm glad that there are so many awesome furry ladies out there, especially artists and fursuiters. I feel really comfortable around fellow female furs even if they're strangers, whereas with men I have to get to know them first before I can feel comfortable.

Let's keep improving conditions in the furry fandom so more women will keep showing up! maybe instead of 80/20 male/female we can reach more like 50/50 :3

Anyway, anyone have stories of fandom misogyny to share? Or stories of particularly awesome men who stick up for women when everyone else is being sexist? (Pinardilla comes to mind ... https://www.weasyl.com/~pinardilla )

I'm moving into a new apartment on June 1st and I don't yet have a job. While I'm job-hunting, I might as well try to make a little pocket money in the meantime.

It's a bit long so I figured I'd put it on my personal blog rather than stuff it in a journal.

Haha last weekend I got a call from my GRANDPA of all people and he was like "so I just saw this sloth dance video..." I was like NO WAY someone showed him that I'm a furry D:!! But he said he wanted to thank me for "brightening his day" so I guess he liked it :3 Hah, my family is pretty great, though.


I already did my shout outs here... Thanks to everyone who watched me from FE, it means a lot! I'm gonna try to keep putting all my pictures up on my Weasyl account and just put my favorite photos up here on FA. And eventually I will get back to actually posting my own art up in here, haha. I still have a whole bunch of pictures I did for my family over the past two Christmases that I never posted.

I keep seeing people I really want to hang with going to Anthrocon and since I'm moving back to Denver in April, I can't really afford a plan or train ticket to get out there anymore.

Then I had a thought... it's a 20 hour drive, but if we had enough furs carpooling we might make a fun road trip out of it? Gas would end up being something like $500 to $600, but if you divide that by 4 or 5 furs, it's less than $200 per person, which is half of a plane or train ticket.

We could do it all at once if we took turns driving and sleeping, or we could do two 10-hour days and camp or get a single motel room for everyone halfway (adding something like $25 per person for the whole trip).

Obviously it would mean everyone would have to take four extra days off work, which not everyone can afford to do, and hell I don't even have a job yet so this might all go out the window once I get hired and my job's like, "hell no we won't give you eight days off in a row"

It would be really uncomfortable and more exhausting than flying... but I just wanted to see if it was feasible at all or if I'm just crazy.

What do y'all think?
