The Tigerdile crew is pleased to announce HomeCon 2014! It will be running November 22nd and 23rd.

What is HomeCon?

It’s kind of like Pajama Day, an event some of the artists participated in. It’s an event that we hold at least once a year, in which Tigerdile hosts a “convention” of streaming artists. Viewers are encouraged to browse multiple artists (go from “table” to “table”) and streamers are encouraged to hold special events (multi-streams, sales, fun stuff for the viewers, etc.)

HomeCon is an event where our artists can show off and our viewers can discover some new favorites!

Nothing special is required to participate in HomeCon. Just show up! Registration’s free, the dealer’s den is wide open, come and have fun

You can now set your background image for your stream on your Your Stream page. This works with both the simple and advanced page editor.

I've added automatic restarts to Tigerdile's stream and chat server. This will help performance and clear stale connections.

The restarts will happen at 4:30 (stream) and 4:45 (chat) AM Eastern time on Mon, Tues, Weds, and Thurs mornings.

These times have been selected to minimize impact, as the streams sometimes run extra long Fri/Sat/Sun. May tweak the timing as we go along

Multi-streams will now show the header / paypal link for the streamer's page when you use it -- but that's not the really cool thing.
I've done all the back end work required to allow streamers to select the size of their video stream, and the position of the chat box.
Tomorrow I'll try to get the UI to work. This will include the ability to edit pretty much your entire stream page.

Donation buttons are back! And hopefully safe now. They redirect donators to a non-Tigerdile site to handle the transaction.

So, when Apple released Mac OS X Mavericks, they broke compatibility with CamTwist. CamTwist was the software used to stream the desktop. Anyone who upgraded could no longer stream desktop on Tigerdile (or most other sites).

The OpenBroadcaster port for Mac is finally here and it’s looking great. We recommend all Mac users move over to it! Our instructions are here!

Is the 10 viewer cap on the Casual User plan a hard limit?

No. A little-known fact is that the 10 viewer cap is not a hard limit; people will not get blocked out of your stream like they do with Join.Me. The 10 viewer cap is purely honor system, and it’s acceptable for you to occasionally go over the limit. If you consistently go over the limit, you might attract some polite inquiries from the administration.

We’re selling Tigerdile Tadpoles again! They’re the adorable little plush tigerdiles you may have seen on various people’s streams.

We took down the Tigerdile Tadpole page during the PayPal persecution earlier this year — we ave not only taken measures to make Tigerdile’s site acceptable to PayPal (we’ve gotten no other complaints so far), but also we are selling the Tigerdile Tadpoles on a completely separate domain with no link to this one.

There is no reasonable or unreasonable way that PayPal could have a problem with this!

Tigerdile will have an outage tomorrow morning eastern time (probably around 7 AM EST but they do a window thing) for a drive replacement. Outage is expected to last under half an hour.

At long last, Multi-Streaming is supported!

We finally took the plunge and set it so all web pages go over https. Previously, only chat and Tigerdile store pages were forced into https though the entire site was optionally usable in https mode.

This is becoming common practice, but can cause problems for some browsers. Please contact support if you have any issues; though you may want to try clearing cookies / browser cache first.

Video streams are still not encrypted at this time, as that set-up is difficult, but I will probably have that going at some point.

There’s a few things we occasionally get asked that are worth bringing up. I might bump this to the FAQ later. Please refer to the Support link if you need any of these things.


I know I’m going to be away for awhile, but I just paid; can I use my days later?
Yes! We’re flexible like that. Just tell us before you are going to leave, and we’ll halt your account. Then, when you come back, let us know and we’ll turn it back on where you left off.


For whatever reason, I started my free trial but could not use it. Can I get another one?
Very yes! It is strongly preferred that you use your free trial before paying for the service, because in a few cases Tigerdile doesn’t work or perform well enough and we don’t want you to pay for something you can’t use. Tigerdile has a no-refund policy, and the free trial is our way of making sure you can use and are happy with the service before you pay anything. Please take full advantage of it!


Can I pay for more than one month at a time?
Yes! We even offer a few special deals. For every 5 months you buy, you get one month free; for example, pay for 10 months, get 2 months free (so buying Tigerdile for a year gets you 2 free months!). If you pay for a year, you get a free front page ad as well.

We don’t recommend people buy in huge chunks like that for a variety of reasons (price may decrease, offers may change, no refunds so you can’t change your mind later, etc.) but if it makes your life easier/better/whatever then who are we to argue? Contact support if you’re interested!


A meteor hit my car, mom, dog, and computer through a miraculous series of bounces and my stream is due. Can I pay you guys in a week?
You don’t need a reason why; just tell us you need a little more time and you’ll get it. If you ask for it every month, we may eventually raise an eyebrow — but we know shit happens. Sometimes shit happens a lot, even. If your payment due date is falling on a bad time of the month (like, the same day as your rent or a car payment or something), let us know and we can shift things around for you.


What’s the deal with Mac streaming? Is it ever getting better?
Tigerdile donates money every month to the Open Broadcaster Project. We are known to the guy who’s making the Mac port and we speak with him each month regarding progress. They are actively working on supporting Macs, which will solve a lot of our problems including Mavericks support.

The estimated time for delivery has been “a month or two” for awhile, though. If anyone is both a Mac user and a C++ programmer, let’s talk; we’re trying to organize some help with the project. Experienced programmers only, please!

I've gotten reports that disabling ad blocker for Tigerdile MIGHT solve problems where chat locks up. Still working on a perma-fix for that. Thanks for your patience!

felixplesoianu (twitter) upgraded Tigerdile's streamer chat settings page so that moderators and ban list are easier to manage. Woo hoo!

We’re aware of the problems people have had with PayPal, and we globally removed the tip jars so there’s no need to worry or take any action.

Rukis has told us what flagged us as a problem site, and I’m going to try and fix those problems. We will probably have a tip jar feature in the future. It probably won’t be PayPal though.

Hi Tigerdillians;

You’ll probably notice the new chat, and you’ll probably notice it’s not in beta any more. This isn’t because it’s perfect; I’m still working on it. However, the old chat has to go.

Over the past day or so, the site had been getting notably slower. I discovered that the way the old chat was operating, some people’s web browsers were going nuts and hammering the site to death. The old chat was really hard on both the web server and the database, and it’s the weakest part of the site’s infrastructure.

We, basically, had some number of folks (an exact number is difficult to obtain) who’s web browsers are hitting the chat server constantly without the pause the javascript is supposed to enforce. I’m guessing this is some kind of browser bug and not a malicious attack, but who knows.

As such, this constant flood of requests is making lag for everyone and basically using the machine resources up.

I’ve set up an IP block to try and detect these people and reject their connections. It’s helping a bit, but there’s still more to do and I’m working on it.
