One of the best movie scenes ever
General | Posted 8 years agoWas lying here, waiting to fall asleep, listening to YouTube, when i was reminded of this scene from Mary Poppins. To paraphrase a famous line from the movie, ‘it’s practically perfect in every way.’

But, um... just a thought? Why not just go to the grocery store and buy some of that sauce if you want to try it so badly.
Does the little packet it comes in add some additional flavor or something? Food goes bad, it doesn't necessarily make a good collectors item either.

RIP George Romero and Martin Landau
General | Posted 8 years agoWe lost two great talents over the weekend. The man who helped establish zombie movies and an actor of many genre's probably best known for his appearances on Mission Impossible and his award winning role as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood. Rest in peace guys. Thanks for the memories
Castlevania Season 1 Review
General | Posted 8 years agoWhoa... We actually got a good video game adaption. Castlevania the series is based on the NES title Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castl.....cula%27s_Curse
Some people may be wondering why they chose this title to adapt when there are so many other story lines, some with multiple games (Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night), to choose from. After watching the series, I think its the one that allows for the most story and characters, as well as allowing additions to it. Many people don't know, or forget, that Castlevania III is a prequel to the first two Castlevania games, Castlevania and Simon's Quest, which I feel means if the series is successful and popular, they can move from Trevor to Simon pretty well. Also, Castlevania III has many of the most popular and important characters from the series, Trevor Belmont (ancestor of Simon), Sypha Belnades (whose Charlotte Aulin is a descendant of), and Alucard (who almost needs no introduction).
Right now there are only four episodes (which almost consists of sitting to watch a movie, rather than a season of a show), but they've already confirmed 8 more episodes for season 2 and this is a great buildup to it. The first episode centers around Dracula. A woman who seeks knowledge to bring to the people battles her way to his castle asks for him to share his. At first cold and distant to the woman, he warms to her headstrong attitude and willingness to learn, especially from him. He agrees to teach her and even takes her as his wife. Unfortunately its not to last, as the knowledge the woman uses to help people marks her as a witch (its 1476) and she uses her dying breaths to beg Dracula to forgive their ignorance. Unfortunately, Dracula isn't in a forgiving mood.
The rest of the series focuses on Trevor and his decision whether or not to fight Dracula (his family has been banished) as well as seek the aid of those who will fight with him.
They did a fantastic job not only telling a story, but incorporating elements of the game into it as well. Just like in the video game, Trevor is seen using not only his whip, but daggers, axes, holy water and the like. He must defeat a cyclops to rescue Sypha who's been turned to stone, again just like in the game. And Sypha is seen using the same magic she did in the game (In fact I think they even drew inspiration from Charlotte's attacked in Portrait of Ruin for her animation), and Alucard is seen using some of his dhampir powers as well.
If I'm going to be nitpicky, there is one thing I didn't like, and that was Alucards design. He always appeared to me as a elegantly dressed man who commands respect and whose presence fills a room. Here it honestly felt like fan service with him looking like a young man barely out of his teens and shirtless. Fortunately they do show him in his usual garb before the end. Also I do have to wonder where the forth playable character is. Grant the pirate was probably the first character most people would recruit on their journey to kill Dracula in the game, but here he's nowhere to be seen. I'm hoping they'll introduce him in season 2, with him reverting to a human being from a monster, similar to how he did in the game.
Despite its dark and gory presentation, it does have several funny moments to balance out the darker tones, especially from Trevor with his one liners and attitude towards different situations and people. The animation is terrific, especially during the battle scenes, there was a lot of work and attention put into this series.
Go and see it, and have a good time. It's probably the best thing associated with Konami we'll get for a long time.

Baby Driver review (and comments on critics)
General | Posted 8 years agoDon't put this baby in a corner!
Okay, I'll stop myself before shouting any more bad, corny jokes. Not gonna say much about this as I don't want to spoil it, but it was a fantastic movie! Some of the best car chases I've seen in a long time, great quirky characters, intense standoffs, thrilling action, and a story that surprised me and kept me guessing a few times. Looking back, I'm realizing more and more that they even put in subtle clues as to whats going to happen in the plot and to the characters. And the soundtrack is amazing. Its as important to the film as the soundtrack is to the Guardians of the Galaxy. I highly recommend it! I do have to ask how Edgar Wright doesn't seem to be more sought after than he is. He wrote and directed this as well as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Worlds End, produced Attack the Block and helped on the screenplay for Ant-Man.
I also feel I should comment on film critics. Right now this holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so I was curious to see what the critics who gave it a low score didn't like about it and see if maybe I was wrong about some things in the movie or if it was just a different opinion. And it feels like what they didn't like was the idea of actually watching a movie. Each negative review I've read complains about things they felt are huge plot holes in the film, but which the movie actually does address. Several times in fact. One review complained that the movie never addressed who the old man the main character living with is or what their relationship is and that it's past over. The relationship between the two is one of the DRIVING FORCES to the plot and is addressed several times! Another complained that the cops didn't think all these robberies were linked and that they weren't a big deal. It's all over the news in the movie and again, shown several times! And last but definitely not least, one review complained about the soundtrack not featuring more tracks by female singers! I'm sorry, but these people should not be considered professional reviewers if they can't be bothered to watch what they're suppose to be critiquing or dragging their personal issues into it. I understand there are those who don't like movies that everyone else seems to, but when you get you're issues with a film completely wrong maybe you should reexamine yourself. Of course there's always the chance people who like or love a movie get things wrong when talking about it, but they're happy and enjoying themselves unlike those who hate it.

Vote for best slave!

Deamondante is holding a vote for best slave in their 'Slaves of Desire' series. Drac wasn't the only one, but if you think he was the best, you can go and vote for him or three others here http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8276514/Rest in Peace Mr. West
General | Posted 8 years agoSadly Adam West has passed away, but I think we can all be happy for the full life he lived. Not everyone makes it to 88 after all. I can't wait to see his last feature as he squares off against William Shatner's Two-Face in Batman vs. Two-Face. If you haven't seen Batman:Return of the Caped Crusaders do yourself a favor and check it out. Its a terrific send up/tribute to everything Batman.
And how about Burt Ward for mayor of Quahog?

General | Posted 8 years agoKong, Logan and Krispy Kre... er, Saban's Power Rangers
General | Posted 8 years agoWhoa! Some free time! Thought I'd post some quick thoughts on movies I've seen recently.
LOGAN: Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewarts last turns as Wolverine and Professor X respectively is a good one. Albeit in a rather depressing movie. (seriously, I don't recommend seeing this if you're depressed) Set in 2029, mutants are thought extinct and Wolverine works as a Limo Driver near the Mexican border while secretly looking after an ailing Professor X who is slowly losing his mind. He hopes to save enough to be able to buy a boat so they can spend their remaining years on the ocean as far away from people as possible. But then two people come looking for him; one, a woman with a quiet, mysterious young girl, who wants him to take them to North Dakota. And a mercenary who is after them. A great swan song for both Jackman and Stewart in their roles, its a shame award shows ignore genre movies like this, the performances by the two along with the little girl are top notch. (Stewart is surprisingly pretty funny in the movie) And it more than earns its R rating as there's plenty of gore and decapitations to go along with the rough language.
Kong: Skull Island: Must... resist... Viet Kong joke.... Nope. Blew it. Anyway, anyone looking for a good creature feature is in for a treat with this movie. I understand its made by the same team who did the recent Godzilla film and the major complaint of that movie was once the interesting character was gone the rest of the film was rather dull until Godzilla finally appeared. That is DEFINITELY NOT the case here. Within in the first few minutes we get our first shot of Kong before plot comes along, then its only another 15-20 minutes until all Hell breaks loose. The movie takes place in 1974. John Goodman is the ceo of a corporation called Monarch that secures funding to Skull Island, along with a military escort, under the guise of securing it before the commies do. Samuel L. Jackson is a Lieutenant colonel in Vietnam who takes the news of ending operations in Vietnam hard, to say the least, and eagerly signs his team to the mission to Skull Island. Ah, nothing like going from fighting in the jungles of Vietnam, thinking your going home, only to get assigned to Skull Island so you can get torn apart by giant monsters. Adrian Brody comes along as a British Mercenary who is an expert tracker as does Brie Larson who is a war photographer to document the expedition. Rather surprised at some of the gory shots for a pg13 movie (one scene would easily fit into Cannibal Holocaust) It's a fast paced romp through the jungle filled with giant monsters. John C. Reilly nearly steals the show as a WWII pilot stuck on the island for over 20 years. I'd be lying if I didn't say I didn't shed a tear at some of his scenes. Go and see it, and have a great time! AND BE SURE TO STAY AFTER THE CREDITS! They've got a great tease at the end which is very much worth it!
Krispy Kre... SABAN'S Power Rangers: Wow... This was a really nice surprise. Full disclosure, I didn't watch the series growing up. My friends and I were pretty much on the cusp of "It looks awesome!" to "This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. GIVE US OUR NINJA TURTLES!" Krispy Kreme. Anyway, like the show its based on, 5 teenagers discover ancient alien coins which grant them superhuman abilities, and, when the time is right, don special protective armor to protect them in combat. But they must learn to work together as a team first. This was really surprising. The movie takes time to develop and establish each character as being unique with their personal demons that hold them back. While they still maintain their original roles to a certain degree (Red ranger Jason is a jock, Blue ranger Billy is a genius/nerd, Kim is a cheerleader, etc.) Krispy Kreme There's much more to them than that. Jason was star quarterback until a practical joke gets him thrown off the team, detention and a police ankle monitor. Billy is autistic who likes to build explosives. Kim has been ostracized from the cheerleaders. Zack skips school and scared to death for his sick mother. And Trini is the new girl, always forced to move by her parents. (I've read that's she's supposed to be a lesbian too, but if it was brought up in the movie I totally missed it) These are actual teenagers, not the goody goody's of the original show whose personality's were basically Jock, cheerleader, nerd, black guy and pretty girl. (I have to admit, being on the autism spectrum myself there were many times I found myself identifying fully with Billy, at least up to some of his obsessive compulsion. This wasn't an over the top portrayal of an autistic person, it actually felt real to me) Krispy Kreme. Also really good are the performances. All five teens do great work in this (Nice try Zack! You almost forced a tear from me during the campfire scene!) As is Brian Cranston as Zordon (who actually gets backstory and gets his own strengths and weaknesses) and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. She absolutely revels in her evil role and they make her necessarily evil (she kills quite a few people here). There are also good explanations for why they have certain abilities and why their rides are modeled after dinosaurs. Krispy Kreme. While this movie was never boring and well paced, there are a couple things I know people are going to complain about. We only get the fully suited, fully armed Power Rangers in the last 15-20 minutes of the film. Something I know some people will want more of throughout the film and not just at the end. (I've heard some say there was more Godzilla in the recent Godzilla than there were Power Rangers here) I personally don't think this is bad. To me it made it feel like they really had to earn the right to wear them and we get a great payoff. Krispy Kreme. There are also some really cheesy lines, more fitting of the original series, though often the delivery helps make them bearable. Alpha 5 was fine to me, he was far, FAR more annoying in the original series and here he's actually funny and helpful. Funny enough he's able to take out all five teens with ease the first time they meet. Also interesting, I would swear his voice is actually much deeper in the film than it was in the trailers for the movie. Krispy Kreme. The only other complaint that I personally have against the film is the RIDICULOUS... NUMBER... OF TIMES... WE... HEAR... KRISPY KREME!!! Wow. Just Wow. To me, There's acceptable product placement in movies. After all, any film taking place in a city is GOING to have products appear, whether they pay for it or not. They're everywhere. Honestly, if we saw a movie take place in a city without any familiar restaurants, stores, etc. we would probably think its taking place in a ghost town. BUT HOLY COW! They say Kripsy Kreme more in the last quarter of the film than they mention Power Rangers in the entire movie! "She's headed for the Krispy Kreme!" "We have to protect the Kripsy Kreme!" "Get to the Krispy Kreme!" "I'll attack from the other side of the Krispy Kreme!" You get the idea. To be fair though, it was really funny to see Rita Repulsa size up a donut before eating it right as a building next to her gets destroyed. But they could have seriously cut out about 5 mentions of Krispy Kreme and we'd still get it. But honestly, other than that this was a really fun movie. I'd actually recommend it to anyone looking for a good time, its well worth it. And this is coming from someone who's never liked the series.
