Emergency Commissions!: Please Read!
General | Posted 12 years agoHello all, I hope this finds everyone well...
So, here it goes.
The long of the short is this. My boyfriend's father is in a lot of financial turmoil right now. This man has been a father to me, and has has helped both of us in every way possible from the beginning. If we were ever short on funds, he was there without question saying, "How much do you need? Take whatever you need, pay me back whenever you can." This man's heart is too big for his own good. He gave a home to a girl being abused by her ex-husband and the girl's child. He doesn't ask for compensation. He let's his daughter, 20 years of age, and plenty old enough to have her own place, live there for free, and feeds her and all her friends she has over. He gives her money when she asks, and takes care of any person who needs help.
Well, recently, his went through a divorce because his wife cheated on him. She is a vile, twisted woman, let me tell you. She tried to take everything the dad had out of spite.
My boyfriend's father lied to us about just how much she took from him because he didn't want us to worry. We found out today the true extent of the damage. He may end up losing his house this month if he can't get some funds together soon.
I cannot, and will not let this man go under, and neither will my boyfriend. This man has done so much for us and anyone who needed his help.
If anyone out there has the money to commission me, I'll do it cheap and quickly. Commission prices vary on what the person wants, but I promise it'll be at a reduced price, and I'll have it done within a few days of the order's placement.
ANYTHING goes, I do mean anything. Adult, mature, fan art, chibis, linear, full color, paintings, stories even traditional media if that's your thing. You like MLP? You got it. Dig Sonic? Great, I'll do it. Anime? DONE. Furries, no problem. Video game characters? YES. Reference sheets, absolutely. Anything, and I'll take it on.
If you can't afford commissions, (if you're religious anyway) prayers and thoughts are appreciated. Heck, if you can share this journal then you've been a help.
You guys are awesome, thank you in advanced.
Take care all!

Got a New Pet Ferret! Need Name Suggestions!
General | Posted 13 years agoHey all, Karma here! So my mate and I went out today and gave a home to the most adorable, 10 month old ferret. He is dark brown with a gradient to lightish brown with beautiful cream markings that are very unique. He's so inquisitive but so gentle too and so well behaved. I would really love for everyone to toss out some suggestions as everyone here is really creative. Alright, leave names in the comments! <3
Getting Back Into The Groove ^_^ I missed you guys!
General | Posted 13 years agoWow, it's been way too long since I've posted a journal! How's everyone doing? I've gone through quite a few major transitions in the last 7 months I've been away but I think I've gotten to a point where I can rejoin the furry and art community with confidence. I honestly never knew how much having a good mate could affect me. In the 5 months we've been together, he has opened my eyes to so many things and taught me so much. He's really into my art and is so supportive that it's pushed my art to a new level of development <3 I'm not working 40 hours a week AND juggling college full time either, which is so very, very nice ^_^ It's given me some freedom to play around with my personal art. And once I take care of some more things on my end, I wanted to announce that I'll be opening slots for commissions in about 2 months, maybe less. There will be 5 slots at a time and prices will be listed ahead of time. If for whatever reason you are interested in reserving a spot and have the specifics of the commission, I will give you a discounted price for grabbing a slot in advanced :3 None of my prices are going to be pricey anyway, so eh, it's all up to you guys. Anyway, I think this rant is just about finished :P I look forward to seeing and hearing stuff from everyone!

Awesome Stuff: Please Read! :D
General | Posted 13 years agoHello everyone! If you've stopped and actually taken time to read this, thank you! Okay, so here's the situation. My friend Malaikamizaati has finally gotten his story, The Savannah published! You can purchase it from Amazon for only $2.99! http://www.amazon.com/Savanna-ebook/dp/B008ZFYVMK/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1345346211&sr=1-2&keywords=savanna I had the pleasure of reading it, and it's a knock-out! Why am I promoting it? Well for one, the story is really compelling, it just draws you in. You get attached to the characters, and I for one, couldn't stop reading. Two, Malaika is a friend of mine and this story is his life's work, it's very important to him. He's done such a wonderful job, and the writing flows well. Three, it's inspired by the Lion King, and honestly, come on! The LION KING! I LOVE THE LION KING! This book manages to let readers feel that connection they loved in the Lion King, but without copying or coming too closely to the story line. Just when you think things are predictable...BAM! It takes a turn! And the last reason *grins a little sheepishly* I have my name in the credits because I edited it, and I will also be creating the cover for it (currently it has no cover). Yay for shamless self-promotion! :D So please everyone, if you're looking for a full-fledged, awesome, furry story, you've gotta check this out. Thanks for reading everyone! More details about the book can be found on Malaika's journal here ---->http://www.sofurry.com/view/418932
The Truth About Artists
General | Posted 13 years ago I had a great conversation with a fellow artist I had met an Toracon this year. He's quite extraordinary, and he's an inspiration to myself. Feel free to check out is DA account here http://benchi.deviantart.com/
We talked a lot going back and forth about being artists and kindred spirits. But there's something that especially I feel needs to be said to everyone, artists and non-artists alike. Do you know what it means to be an artist? I'm sure everyone has a general idea or has some belief behind a personal concept, but that's not what I am referring to. There is a truth, an epiphany that every artist needs to experience if they have yet do so already. Some learn it early on, some are still unaware of it.
An artist is not just someone who can create. Think about it carefully. An artist is not just someone who can create. What does this really mean. It's truth time everyone. Why do artists make accounts on art sites? What drives an artist? What goes through an artist's mind? I'll give you some personal insight. A true artist is someone who is willing to share and help their other artist's along their journey. Does this seem like an obvious statement? Alright, but the truth of how many artists deeply believe in this or follow through are not as many as one would think.
Art can be seen as a competitive field. Every artist sizes up their work against other artists whether they mean to or not. But when an artist becomes so engrossed in this competitive nature that they refuse to be open minded, or a part of the art community, they have in essence ceased to be a true artist. I'm by no means saying to give up all your secrets or let others copy you. I'm saying that every artist has started from ground zero, every artist has gone through the phases of frustration because they weren't at the level they wanted to be. All artists have felt the sting of criticism, and the rush of praise. All artists have stared at a piece for too long wondering why it doesn't look right.
I know from experience that if there had been someone more advanced than me take the time to share how they tackled these obstacles, I would have been forever in their debt. Artists need each other. We need to stick together and help one another. If someone does a piece that is clearly less developed (I refuse to say bad because it's not bad, it is at a different level), then something should be said. Looking at it, laughing to yourself and thinking, "Wow, I'm glad I don't draw like that anymore!," is not going to help that artist. If they are serious, they will want constructive feedback, something with a positive attitude but with useful tips to help them. Writing them feedback like, " Yeah... this isn't very good. Practice more," is not helpful. As a true artist we should strive to take the time and help each other reach high levels.
And believe me, it's not just higher level artists who can help lower level artists, it works both ways. Sometimes, even a non-artist can help. I know I tend to over complicate things, and when it comes to my art, sometimes I just cannot put a finger on what's wrong. In these cases, I will ask my boyfriend for his opinion. He is a pixel artist so he understands how to take a step back simplify things. Some of the hardest situations I've faced with my art I was able to manage because I had someone else simplify it and see what I couldn't. It's the same with a lower level artist or a non-artist giving advice to a higher level artist. In my case, though it is different, I actually gave my friend who I mentioned earlier a tip he wasn't aware of. He was pretty excited and began to come up with ways this new trick would help in create new effects.
I want everyone to understand. I have encountered so many artists who see this truth and who have benefited and helped others. But, I have also seen other artists, lower levels and higher levels alike who have not understood this. We are a community! We do better individually when we can learn from one another! Do you think we would have had all these famous artists in our history if they had not influenced one another somehow? I doubt it. Artists seek out schools or other ways to improve their art. As an artist myself, and someone who is passionate to grow and learn, I know the truth. Others know it too. The question is, as an artist, do you know it?

Seriously? Not AGAIN! -__-;; (Any advice please?)
General | Posted 13 years ago I'm really sorry everyone that you have to see this. I don't normally post any journals unless something I feel is really worth blowing up your guys' notifications. Let me just say, I am so very, VERY glad that FA does not have any kind of voting or rating system. Why? Because there is always going to be someone who abuses it, and trolls on it and give you a crappy rating just to be nasty. I literally poured a ton of feeling into my most recent picture, "Never Grow Up," and everyone else on my other accounts have really enjoyed it. Now, as someone who gets attached to my art, I am fully up for criticisms but there is a line. You do not give a bad rating to someone's art unless they really deserved it.
That being said, I have an account on SoFurry, and now, I'm raging but good. This must have been about the third or fourth time within the month some person has rated my pictures under a 3 star. For those who don't know, the rating system is out of 5 stars. This time, this person gave me a 2 star. Now, normally, I thank those who give me high votes, and ask for reasons and tips when someone give me a lower vote so that I can improve. I know my art is still not solidified and needs improvement. I'll be the first to admit that. But it's especially irritating when you can't tell who gave you the bad vote! Normally the vote and the user who gave it to you appear in your notifications, but this one person somehow eludes being brought up in any identifiable manner...
I want to scream! This is why I hate rating systems! If you're going to take a dump on my art FINE but you at least owe me a reason. I am a firm believer in constructive criticism, not, "Oh it's 4am and I have nothing better to do than to troll this artist and give them a low rating because it's not porn like I wanted! How dare they not post porn! I WANT PORN!" Just because it's a furry site, does not mean it has to be exclusively for animals and/or porn!
So I am asking anyone who has used SoFurry to help me out here. Has this happened to you? I'm sorry, but I know when my art is mediocre, decent, and good. I feel the picture in question was above a 2 star rating. Has anyone at all dealt with getting a low rating that was unjustified???
*Inhales slowly* I'm done now. I'm sorry. I am irritated, haha, I'm sure you guys can tell... Thanks for reading. Tell me what you think. Thanks everyone ^_^;;
