Requests done!
Posted 14 years agoWow, this has taken quite a while... these things were fun to draw, but for the sake of having more time of my own during the holidays, I'll probably end up offering only simpler requests next December.
Anyway, my busy schedule has calmed down a bit, and I hope to be back to drawing and posting more of my own stuff soon. You're all great, and thanks for the support. <3

Request update
Posted 14 years agoHi! I'm still pretty busy with various Christmas-related stuff in real life, but I am working on the requests whenever I have time. I've done sketches for all of them, and begun inking and coloring a couple of them.
I'm trying to communicate thoroughly with everyone about just what needs to be drawn, so it may be a while before they are all done, but when they are done I expect they will be the best they can be. So be patient with me if I haven't gotten back to you in a while, and enjoy your holidays very much! *big hugs*

Requests (All slots filled!)
Posted 15 years agoFirst of all, apologies to anyone who has sent me a message and not gotten a reply for a long time. A lot of stuff is not getting done in my life right now, since the holidays are so busy where I work, and when I get home I barely feel like doing anything.
However, I'm still going to try and do my December gift-giving. As I promised in my profile, I am opening up for a few requests, on both my FurAffinity page and my SoFurry page. If you'd like a special holiday present from me, this is your chance.
Here are the rules:
1. I will draw free pictures for the first 5 people who post requests in response to my journal post on SoFurry, and the first 5 people who post requests in response to my journal post on FurAffinity. I will not draw two requests for the same person in the same year, so don't post more than one request.
2. I would rather give new people a chance at a request instead of drawing more art for people who have already gotten gift art from me. I'm not saying you can't post a request here if you've already gotten art from me, but try not to do it every single year.
3. I'll draw single or multi-character requests, in color or black-and-white. I don't draw anything involving gore or bodily wastes, and I don't draw rape or underage porn, but most other subjects are fine with me.
4. Tell me exactly which character or characters you'd like me to draw, and what they look like (link to reference pics if possible). If any of the characters are not yours, make sure you have permission.
5. All drawings are done with pencils on paper, so there will be a hardcopy original. Let me know if you'd like me to mail you the original (you pay for postage), or keep it in my portfolio, or put it up for sale on Furbuy and split the profits with you if it sells. (If you don't specify, I'll just keep it in my portfolio.)
6. After these requests are complete, I will be closed for requests and open only for commissions (and possibly trades, in certain rare circumstances).
7. I will remain closed for requests until next December, when I will post a journal entry like this one and draw requests for the first five people who reply to it.
8. The rest of the year, I will be accepting commissions. For my commissions information, see my profile.
Requests (I only promised 5, but I got such interesting requests that I ended up taking 7... really don't have the time or energy to take more than that, though, sorry)

The big move is coming closer and closer
Posted 15 years agoHi everyone. If I've been hard to reach lately, slow to answer comments or whatever-- it's not that I have any problem with you, it's just my life going crazy. Thank you all for your continued comments and faves and watches. You still rock. I feel bad telling you over and over again that I'm sorry for being so distant, but I promise that I'll be able to get active online again by the end of this year.
I'm finding time to draw whenever I can, but a big huge percentage of my attention right now is focused on finding a new home. We've been offered jobs in another state (that was in the works for a while, and I mentioned a long time ago that we might be moving, but now it's pretty much official).
Unfortunately it is difficult to find apartments that fit our needs in the area we'll be moving to, and even harder to find ones that will give us a tour on a weekend, which is the only time when we have a chance to drive out of state and check them out. So I'm busy playing phone tag with apartment managers and trying to figure out when we might be able to take a couple weekdays off, and along with working 40 hours a week and, you know, eating and stuff, that leaves me very little time for the artistic pursuits that I so love.
But in a few months it should be cleared up, and by the end of this year I'm sure I'll be seriously active here again. My profile says I take requests for a little while in December, and I don't break promises I make on my profile, so don't worry, guys, I'll be back.
Take care,
Tili

Gratitude, $5 Portfolios, and twelve-inch rigid... envelopes
Posted 15 years agoWell, I've been here for over half a year, and I'm still drawing, finding time for a picture whenever I can in my busy life. I continue to appreciate all your comments and faves-- you're great people.
I've continued to upload my drawings to Inkbunny, including four portfolios of 15-20 pieces each. (If anyone wants extra-high-resolution downloads of my art, that's a cheap way to get them. Downloading them individually they're a dollar apiece, but as a portfolio you can get 15 or 20 of them for $5.)
And, to my buyers on FurBuy: I now have a plentiful supply of 9x12" rigid envelopes, so I will consistently be able to package my art with absolute minimum risk of damage. Sorry if you have received any battered packages. (I don't think anyone has gotten damaged art, but I got some feedback saying that a package had arrived a bit banged up, without damage to the art, so I'm going to take extra care in packaging from now on.)

THANKS and SORRY and I LOVE YOU ALL
Posted 15 years agoHi guys! I'd like to thank everyone who has faved, watched or commented recently-- I haven't had time to reply to all of them, since we've been busy with work and travel and preparing for a possible move to another city later this year-- but I really, really appreciate it.
I'm posting a bunch of pics tonight, which I'm also putting up for auction at http://www.furbuy.com/seller/tiliquain.html ...they include some stuff based on my mate Zmeydros' awesome story "Shifting Consequences," and I expect to be posting more pics of that soon. The orca herm in that story is sooo sexy...
Also, many thanks to everyone who's been buying my art on FurBuy. I'd like to apologize for an error in the last few auctions. I stated that my new drawing paper was 9"x12" because that's what it said on the front cover of the pad. But when I actually measured it, I realized that the stated dimensions included the tear-off edge, and the area of the paper that I actually sell is closer to 8"x12". I've corrected the error for current and future auctions. I'm very sorry if that's caused any inconvenience.
Anyway, thanks again for looking at my art, and I'll try to keep communicating as much as I can. You guys are great. *hugs*
XXX domain
Posted 15 years agoSo, this ruling has finally passed:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/10412765.stm
What upsets me, though, is that the article doesn't say whether porn sites would be *required* to have an xxx domain.
It says that the new domain would make it easier to avoid porn-- which would only be true if all (or almost all) sex sites had urls ending in xxx. But it never explicitly says that this would be required. It also says that they had already received some applications for xxx domain sites... which would seem to indicate that it was on a voluntary basis.
But even if nobody's required to use the xxx ending, I feel as if there's a strong possibility that it might *become* a requirement later, if the government wants to take advantage of this possible way to "make it easier to avoid porn."
And that would open up the whole insane can of worms that gets opened every time the government tries to regulate porn: the fact is that you can't *define* porn, and, depending on different people's opinion of what porn is, lots of pretty tame sites would be threatened and harassed while lots of hard-core sites would go unnoticed. (Kind of like what happens when parents try to use a program to filter out adult content on their kid's internet connection. If laws can't define porn, how can a computer program?)
What would happen to FA? We're not part of the mainstream porn industry, we don't have photographic porn, and not all of our content is sexual. Would we have to split up into two sites, one for sex and one for no sex? Where would artistic nudes go? How do you define whether a nude image is erotic enough to qualify as porn?
What would happen to my free Tripod page with my Star Trek fanfiction on it? Some of the stories have sex scenes, and I have drawings there too. Tripod ends in .com, not .xxx. Would that be a problem?
And what would happen to historical sites that contain images of ancient Greek pottery with sex scenes painted on it? What do you do if the image is clearly pornography, but the presentation is historical or sociological? I cannot think of any way laws could be written to cover all the possibilities. Language, even legal language, is an imperfect way to describe reality, and there are some things that simply cannot be defined in words. I think feelings would take over, people sending threatening letters all over the place on a case-by-case basis, sits owners being attacked over every questionable image, once all the angry prudes in the world think that they have the law on their side.
So I am really, really hoping that the presence of an .xxx domain does not start being used to police internet content. But lawmakers have done stupider things in the past (especially regarding internet freedom) so I don't have as much hope as I'd like.

Bunnies and dragons and cats, oh my
Posted 15 years agoJust expanding some character information. The sonas Tiliquain and Zmeydros live in a universe that my mate and I are trying to build, and we've been populating it slowly with other characters. So far we've got Gwen the purple dragon and Ekatz the gray cat, and they're fleshing out bit by bit.
Gwen's full name is Gwendale Madison-Lockheart. I will be making a ref sheet for her soon, with information about her life. She was transformed from a human to a dragon by a magic necklace, and she has also gained a magical ability to travel between parallel universes.
Ekatz is still a work in progress. I don't have much backstory for her yet, but I will.
And now that I've gotten better at drawing cats, I'm going to do some more art of the leopard girl from these pictures:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3454874/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3503519/
Her name is Steliny Topfe, and she's an actress and model who likes elaborate costumes. I already have a sketch of my next picture: her lying back on a fancy couch, wearing lots of jewelry and nothing else.
Aaaand... I'm jumping on the bandwagon and getting an Inkbunny account. Prints of my art are available here:
http://inkbunny.net/tiliquain
I've only had time to upload a few things so far, but I hope to have a lot more up in a few days.

Not that I want to post any x-rated pics of fursuits, but...
Posted 15 years agoIf "sexually modified fursuits" are prohibited under the AUP, then why is "fursuit (adult)" a category?
Random stuff again... and Muhammad Day makes no sense!
Posted 15 years agoHmm, what's going on lately...
1. Mana did a drawing of me at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3882089 --I got a commission to help the kitty!
2. I think I'm getting better at transformations. My next one might be based on Zmeydros' Digimon story: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3871761
3. Draw Muhammad Day is pointless. Nobody even knows what he looked like! I could post a picture of Zmeydros and call it a drawing of Muhammad, if I claimed to believe that Muhammad looked like a green pointy-eared dragon. Of course I'm not going to do that, because I like not having people mad at me, and some people would probably find it offensive... which just goes to show that it's not actually drawings of Muhammad that offend people, it's the text SAYING that they are drawings of Muhammad. If you post a picture and don't say who it is, nobody can be offended, even if you secretly meant it as a Muhammad drawing.
This is the same reason I am kinda bewildered whenever people see the face of Jesus in their food. They don't know what Jesus looked like. C'mon, you didn't see the face of Jesus, you saw an image that vaguely resembled some paintings done in Europe a thousand years after Jesus, which the painters claimed were pictures of Jesus but obviously weren't, because they've got blond hair, which didn't exist in the time and place Jesus lived in. Whatever.
4. But now I'm ranting, and I said I like having people not mad at me, so I'll shut up.
5. Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.

Requests are done! Commissions are open! Also, 200 watchers!
Posted 15 years agoThanks to
ShadowsofHeat for being my 200th watcher! I hope you find watching me worthwhile.
I've finished the 10 requests I took, and now I'm open for commissions as usual... no more requests until December, when I will post a journal entry and draw special holiday presents for the five lucky people who are first to reply.
I've got some info about commissions on my profile, which I may edit somewhat in the next few days, but I intend to keep the prices reasonable-- I will always have a couple options whereby someone can buy art for $20 or less. I draw fast, and I enjoy doing it, so overcharging would be just silly.
Anyway, have a good night!

Requests (Update: All slots taken!)
Posted 15 years agoOkay, guys, I am opening up for free requests one more time before I start taking only commissions. This time I'm going to try and do it in a more organized fashion than I did before. Here's what you need to know:
1. I will draw pictures for the first 5 people who post requests in response to this journal post, and the first 5 people who post requests in response to my journal post on SoFurry.
2. I would rather give new people a chance at a request instead of drawing more art for people who have already gotten gift art from me. So please don't post a request here if I already drew something for you.

7. I will remain closed for requests, except once each year sometime around Christmas, when I will post a journal entry like this one and draw requests for the first five people who reply to it.

Life's good
Posted 15 years agoI'm having a pretty good day. I'm very happy with the new ref sheet I made for Tiliquain, and
zmeydros is going to post a story about Sierra and Kai soon, and when that's posted I'm going to upload the ref sheet I drew for those characters. I like drawing reference sheets.
The originals of my ref sheet drawings are up for sale at http://www.furbuy.com/seller/tiliquain.html and so are the originals of the drawings I've done for people who said it was okay to sell them.
Aaaand I'm tired. Can't think of much else to say.

Posted 15 years agoDrawings for
DanteFireHeart and
SpontaneousFred done. Sketch for
Jaira is done, going to ink and color it after
zmeydros looks it over. Gonna get more info so I can do a drawing for
Mordak. Then I'll do the double fisting gryphon pic for
Runa216, and then there'll be a couple of reqs for people over on SoFurry.
I think, after I finish these up, I'll take a little break to catch up on stuff in my life outside fur fandom. Then I'll probably do some stuff of my own characters for a while. And then, we'll see. I'll probably open up for requests a couple more times before I start taking only commissions. And even if I start doing commissions, I might open up for requests from time to time anyway. We'll see what happens... but first things first.
Anyway, thanks again to all of you!

Request Queue, as it stands now
Posted 15 years agoOkay, let's see if I can make this into a coherent list. I've got a nice lineup of requests to have fun with over the next few days:

4.
Runa216 X

I am not sure what order I'll do them in yet. It depends on where my inspiration takes me...
Anyway, this post is mostly for my own reference. Don't feel any obligation to reply unless you notice an error or something I've forgotten.
But I am happy to be here with you all, and I'm having lots of fun with the pics.

Anyway, this post is mostly for my own reference. Don't feel any obligation to reply unless you notice an error or something I've forgotten.
But I am happy to be here with you all, and I'm having lots of fun with the pics.
Another request update, and a question for my requesters
Posted 15 years agoWell, I've given my hands a bit of rest, and I'm up for drawing more requests if anyone's interested.
I also would like to let you know that, if I have drawn a picture for you, I can send you the original by mail if you like. I would just need $5 shipping and an address to mail it to. Alternatively, I can either keep it in my portfolio, or put it up for auction and split the profits with you if it sells. Let me know what you'd prefer.

Drawing update
Posted 15 years agoYay! Requests for
jangofett777,
GrandDragoon,
DanteFireheart,
TheRisingPhoenix, and
Runa216 are done. They were all fun to draw. I'm liking doing requests; it's a great way to make friends and get my art out there.
Speaking of artists getting their art out there, there's a cool new artist trying to sell his stuff on Threadless, and if enough people rate him a 5 in the next day or so, he'll get to realize his dream. If you have a moment, go over there and take a look, and if you like the design feel free to give it a rating.

That's all I have to say right now. Have a good night!

Requests and stuff
Posted 15 years agoWell, when I first joined, I wasn't sure if I would do requests free of charge, but a few people asked, and I decided, why not. In addition to the transformation scene I did as part of a trade with
wintersassassin, I've now also done another picture for
wintersassassin and one for
granddragoon. It's helping me get some practice at drawing other people's characters, without the stress of commissions (worrying about whether the requester got his money's worth). I welcome that practice.
I know that someday I'll start getting enough requests that I won't have time for all of them-- I have a full-time job and various other RL concerns that make it a little difficult already-- and when that day comes, I'll have to start limiting how much I do and charging money like the big-name artists. But for the moment, I'm happy to work with other people's ideas just for the fun and the experience.
I have just posted the requests I've done. The one for Winter's Assassin is a beach love scene featuring the Antaske, the same unusual reptilian characters from the transformation scene I drew earlier. I am fairly happy with it, although I think I made a small error in the lengths of the head-tails. And the drawing for Grand Dragoon is a scene of Tilia the dragon getting his character off with her breasts. I like it except that I made the tail-spines on his character go too close to the tip of the tail. If I do enough more requests, I hope that I'll be closer to perfect by the time I start doing commissions.
UPDATE: Wow, I posted this just minutes ago and I've already got more responses than I expected. This is probably enough requests to last me a while... I'll let you guys know when I've caught up.

Scanner is too smart for its own good
Posted 15 years agoSo I've got a Canon MP560 scanner/copier/printer, which is a nice machine in most ways... but it's got this little problem when it comes to white backgrounds.
See, I'm pretty sure its designers had photos and financial documents in mind rather than drawings. Indeed, when you go to scan something, you have to choose either "photo" or "document." If you choose "document," it'll scan the whole picture, nice and complete, but it'll be kind of crappy quality. It's when you choose "photo," the high-quality setting, that really weird stuff starts happening.
Like, if it's a single contiguous drawing on a white background, it will be automatically cropped to the outermost edges of color, so the drawing always touches the sides of the image. If it's a drawing with two or more parts, separated by areas of white, it scans them as separate images and they'll show up as separate jpegs on the computer. It's like this scanner is saying, "Okay, I know that you must have put twelve photos down there, because there's space between twelve little areas of color I can read. So I'm going to save them as twelve photos and there's NOTHING you can do to stop me." It completely ignores my screams of, "Those are twelve stages in a friggin transformation sequence, you goddam uppity piece of junk!" It knows just enough to think it is smarter than me.
I would rather have a plain stupid scanner that scanned all 8.5x11" of what I put down on it, no matter what, but I guess those aren't made. I would use the "document" setting, except it reduces the quality to below my standards. So I've been falling back on the only reliable solution: color in every background.
And it's actually been looking pretty nice. Maybe the sneaky lil machine is secretly trying to improve my art.

SoFurry is So Funny
Posted 15 years agoWell, I've been posting stuff on SoFurry, too, in an attempt to reach a wider audience, and the way the site works has been erratic from time to time, but I've been giving it a chance because it's still new. And in my time there, I've noticed a trend I really can't explain.
A while back, I got a comment on one of my drawings-- it was one that had a herm in it. And the comment said nothing but "herm." Just that one word.
How am I supposed to reply to that? Do I say, "yes, that's correct"? Or "thanks for pointing it out"? For a moment I thought I might have made a mistake in tagging and labeled the character as something other than a herm, and perhaps the commenter was trying to notify me of that... but I checked, and the creature was clearly identified as a herm in both the tags and the description. Someone had apparently thought it was worth stating the absolutely obvious.
And then it happened again. I got a comment on a drawing that was based on a scene from my mate Zmeydros' story "Shifting Consequences." The comment consisted of two words: "Shifting Consequences." And it was a different person from the one who had commented on my herm.
Was this poster trying to point out that I had used a scene from that story-- even though I myself had clearly pointed out that information in the description? I don't know, but shortly afterwards I got another comment, on a drawing depicting a scene from the story "Unprivate Shower." It said "Unprivate Shower." And it was from a third person, with a different name from the other two.
I'm not saying this whole pattern bothers or offends me in any way-- my reaction is simply bafflement. I've considered the possibility that it's some kind of spambot, but if so, wouldn't it be advertising or linking to something? The comments contain no urls, no product endorsements, and when I click on the user icon, it invariably takes me to the barren page of someone who has nothing at all for people to look at. Whoever they are, these posters are calling attention to themselves despite having nothing whatsoever to show or tell.
Perhaps this in itself is a new form of minimalist, absurdist furry art, a daring quest to stretch the definition of creativity and challenge people's perceptions of the world of furry fandom. Perhaps by making me so confused that my eyes start to cross, these guests on my SoFurry page have accomplished their own creative purpose, and filled their own odd little niche in the artistic world.
Or maybe not.

Good day
Posted 15 years agoI'm having a pretty good day. Four drawings done. I'm going to need new pencils soon. My Zmeydros-green pencil is shorter than my little finger.
I'm really starting to like doing transformation scenes, but I took a break from them today because they're very drawing-intensive (more pencil lines per square inch of paper than a typical drawing, so my hand gets really tired.) I promise I'll do some more soon.
By the way, as of the moment I write this, I've got the following pieces up on http://www.furbuy.com/seller/tiliquain.html for auction:
Zack Transforms
Tiliquain Self-Love
Zmeydros on her back
Herm Zmeydros Reclining
Crouching Tiger, Transforming Dragon
Dragons and Tigers and Wolves, Oh My
Tilia From Behind
Herm Zmeydros
Purple Dragon Getting some Tail
Orca Backside
Meadow Dog
Here Kitty Kitty

Dang, I like it here.
Posted 15 years agoWell, I've been an active part of furry fandom for about a month or so now. I'm pretty happy with how it's gone so far. I've improved immensely as an artist, but I've also realized how much more I have to grow. I've gotten comments on my pics from a lot of furs here, and I've seen a lot of excellent art by other people. I've even sold some of my originals on FurBuy. This is a good community and I'm glad to be a part of it.
My character is gradually becoming more clear in my head. Every time I draw hir, I get a better idea of what I want hir to look like. Of course shi's a shape-shifter, so I can explain it away when different pics have slightly different anatomy, like my male form's cock having a sheath in this pic http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3201025/ and not in this pic http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3318435/ ...but I'm trying to develop some kind of overarching system, some form of continuity, and it's starting to work, I think.
I'm taking more steps every day. Today I got a PO box, which will make the FurBuy thing a lot easier to manage (my latest stuff at http://www.furbuy.com/seller/tiliquain.html is up for auction through tomorrow). I'm also thinking about making myself a new fursuit one of these days. I hope our finances permit going to a con someday soon.
I'm going to try to interact more with people here. In RL, I'm at that difficult phase in my life where I've grown apart from the friends I had in school, I don't have much in common with my coworkers, and I'm trying to figure out how to arrange my free time so I can get to know more people.
Unfortunately, going without an active social life for so long has kind of caused me to retreat into a shell that I'm having some trouble getting out of. I used to be really social online-- I was hugely active in the Star Trek fanfiction world, and it was great. But falling in love can change us, and I lost a lot of my interest in fanfic when I met my mate and settled down. For a while it was just us, in the shell together, with a few people coming to visit occasionally... and that was nice and romantic at first, but I'm realizing that I need friends as well as a lover. Now I'm trying to reconcile this new shyness with my desire for social interaction.
Anyway, I guess I've psychoanalyzed myself enough for one day. I just want to say thanks to all of you for your encouragement and advice regarding my artwork, and I hope I get to know some of you better.
