Notes on Demi-Grimm Society
Posted a year agoSince it's likely going to take a while before the rest of team SAMA is ready to go, I thought I might as well give you folks some more information on the Demi-Grimm.
The Society of the Demi-Grimm
Since their emergence over a thousand years ago, the Demi-Grimm have spent their existence in the vast cave networks below the surface of Remnant--growing from simple hunter-gatherers to numerous city-states. Each of these City-States is ruled over by a "Matron", along with a court made up of representatives from the various major and minor houses acting as her advisors.
The populous of these city-states are divided into various Houses, each controlling a different segment of the operations of the city. Such houses are not necessarily bound together by blood, rather they are bound by profession--and the requirements to join vary between houses. While there are many minor houses, there are four major ones that hold the greatest amount of sway and power--the Zealots and Faithful of House Enixus, the Smiths and Inventors of House Chalybs, the Warriors and Commanders of House Bellua, and the ever-enigmatic Psychics of House Venefici.
The Minor Houses
While I plan on expanding more on the Major Houses with each of the members of Team SAMA (with the first member, Stygia, exploring House Enixus), here are the Minor Houses who--while not having the same influence--play a role in Demi-Grimm Society.
* House Praedia: Primarily in charge of the Agricultural sector, House Praedia is considered the "major" of the Minor Houses--limited in its ability to become a Major House by its dependence on the equipment provided by House Chalybs.
* House Perfici: Made up of artists, musicians, and storytellers (among others), House Perfici are the people you want to go to if you need some entertainment.
* House Archivum: From cartographers to librarians, House Archivum is in charge of collecting, archiving, and teaching to future generations.
* House Interro: Made up of those who hold an interest in ensuring the Matron's edicts are held, House Interro is made up of investigators and enforcers, working tirelessly to keep order and to uncover the truth in criminal matters.
* House Medica: Made up of healers and surgeons, House Medica is the house to call when you have a disease or a broken arm.
* House Ignis: With the dangers an out-of-control blaze can have, House Ignis' role is to ensure such a thing remains limited--and as such they are made up of skilled firefighters.
Humans and Faunus in Demi-Grimm Society
While the Demi-Grimm make up the majority of their city-states, there are populations of Humans and Grimm living among them--though mostly confined to the lower ranks of the various Houses. While some Houses, such as Enixus, Interro, Venefici, and Archivum outright ban them, other houses do allow Humans and Faunus into their ranks--though how much freedom they have within, or if they have a choice in the matter, depends on the House. Many Humans and Faunus within a Demi-Grimm city were born there, their ancestors captured in raids and brought deep below--though some were born above, and brought down far more recently.
