Big Corporations
Posted 2 years agoOne thing that concerns me is how a few large companies kinda own everything now. And are funded by an even smaller number of massive investment firms. Lots of monopolies and cartels. And the fact that the people running these companies have expressed a major interest in altering morality and culture. Some people believe these massive companies are on their side, many of whom once considered massive companies to be evil, as a general rule. Its been wild to see that flip.
Guardians 3
Posted 2 years agoSaw it yesterday. Was pretty good over all.
Pros: Rocket's backstory. best part of the movie. Sad, but very well done. Also still like Chris Pratt's Star Lord.
Cons: My biggest complaint was honestly the leading female characters. Gomorra and the bald black eyed girl were completely unlikeable. Most of the time I wanted them off the screen. Especially Gomorra. There were also several times where they totally emasculated Star Lord. Writing was also iffy. Seems like the quality is starting to slip on these movies

Update
Posted 2 years agoJust felt like I needed to write something.
Been doing more painting. Just landscapes mostly though. Nothing furry really. I've been okay with the results. Seem to be improving at least.
Wanted to get out there and date. Been quite lonely as of late. Women feel like another species though, I swear. Damned if I can figure a good place to meet them either. Would prefer another furry, as I doubt anyone outside the fandom would understand the appeal to me. Local meets are a bit of a sausage fest, haha. I'd rather meet women online tbh, as I can talk more honestly and be myself.
Been doing self improvement stuff. Working out more. Lifting, riding my bike. I tell ya though, last hike through one of the local parks was infuriating. The amount they cut down there. Never going back. Place is completely destroyed.
Trying to expand my business more. Doing 5 lawns now, which is nothing compared to the big companies. But hey, for me its a start! Going to try and get more, as I can definitely do more. Its a very pleasing job. Seeing how nice it looks after you're done. Great exercise too. Also do gardening for people. Getting pretty fast at weeding.
As far as the world goes things feel pretty bleak, not gonna lie. Had to raise my prices this year because inflation and food prices keep going up. Economic mismanagement and money printing, and putting new rules in place that make everything more expensive. Try not to pay too much attention tbh. That stuff will drive you crazy if you do, haha. But hard not to when it impacts you.

Sword Training in Movies
Posted 2 years agoSince I noticed it I can't unsee it. Why do people have practice fights with real swords in like every movie? Now that I'm noticing it I keep expecting to see people get seriously injured. For reference irl they use wooden swords for practice or sabers with a ball at the tip for sports like fencing.

Computer Reliability Asus HP Apple
Posted 3 years agoRight now I'm typing this up on an HP laptop that's at least a decade old, maybe older(Not my main PC, which I built myself). I used to use Apple computers when I was in my teens. My first one worked pretty well, but I spilled juice on it, so had to buy another(Pretty mad at myself at the time. Damned thing was over $1k). My second one offed itself, and damned if I could figure out why(the Apple store guy said it was the motherboard that went, but there was no evidence of an external cause). I was tired of the high cost of Apple products though, along with having to make a trek to the store any time I needed certain compatible things for it. And so I bought the HP I'm typing this on. Well a few years on that one was getting old and slow, and I really wanted something to game on, so I bought an Asus. Supposedly one of the better brands. I loved it for the time I had it. Ran Skyrim pretty well. But then a few years on my Asus just kicked the bucket. Took it to a repair shop, they said it was the motherboard. And just like my second Apple, no liquid damage or anything. Just went one day.
Reason I'm writing this is because I was always told HP was junk, and that Apple and Asus were both very good. So I just think its funny the HP is the one that's still trucking along, at least for now.

Winter Depression
Posted 3 years agoMost people are happy to have a break from work. Negative side for me is I tend to get depressed with nothing to do, also not nearly as much exercise without pushing a mower around. Been painting a lot, which is good. Just doesn't fill the void physical labor does. Also starting to hate the sight of my computer, given how much time I spend on it watching vids. I dunno. Need to get back into hiking honestly. Did it all the time before I started working regularly. Also been very cold here, unusually cold. The chill is finding its way into my room, and making it 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house. Its 18 in the day and near 0 at night, accompanied by a howling wind. Also have less body fat on me, due to work and exercise, and its noticeable. Never thought I'd miss it, but I'm noticeably colder in winter as a result. Cold doesn't tend to bother me when its around freezing. Just when it gets into the teens and near 0.
Hunter x Hunter Is a Good Show
Posted 3 years agoI removed the last journal, because honestly it wasn't fair to the show, and I didn't like that most of it was me complaining about things I didn't like. Because this is a really good show, even if some parts I found boring to get through.
I'm in the middle of the Chimera Ant arc, and honestly it has been really good. I ended up really liking some characters I initially hated. There have been a lot of really good emotional scenes, and a surprising amount of depth to the story. Speaking of characters, I've got a favorite Chimera Ant in mind, though it was hard choosing. Colt was one I didn't like at first, and didn't expect to like, but damned if his arc didn't endear me to him. Welfin is probably my fav. Hey, he's a Wolf, and he's also very analytical and slightly paranoid, which I can relate to, haha. Like Bloster as well. Understated character so far, but his design is cool, and he's smart from what I've seen. Also Meleoron. Besides having a cool power, I really enjoyed his interaction with Gon when they first met, and his slightly goofy personality.
So what do you guys think of it? You have any favorite characters, or characters who surprised you? Complaints or praises?

New Cars
Posted 3 years agoBeen trying to figure out my dislike of new cars. I really don't know how to explain it. Its like looking at them just confuses my senses. Like their styling is needlessly complex and aggressive. I really have a soft spot for 1950s era cars. I think its a combination of the graceful curves of early 1950s cars as well as how later 1950s cars were bold and made a statement. I also like the relative simplicity of 1960s designs. There was a purity to them that you don't see anymore. Cars such as the original Challenger and Mustang, to even commuter cars like the Ford Falcon. The last era I really liked were cars of the 1970s and into the 1980s. There are a handful of 1990s era cars I did like, but I consider most cars of that era just kinda bland and blobby. Anything made in the last 10 years though, man. I like the charger, Challenger, and some Dodge/Ram trucks. But that's it honestly. The Silverados were nicely designed going into maybe 2010, but the new ones are awful.
It's a color thing too. God, do I miss color. From the 1950s going into the 2000s it seems people loved color. Different color combinations for each era, sure. But there was always color. Now everything is gray, black, white, beige. You're lucky red is even still common.
Car interiors too, man. I often drive myself because I don't like to spend time in the bleak interiors they put in cars now. Its another where its all grayish colors, or if there is actual color its usually bright and aggressive. Still miss the navy blue interior on my chrysler, haha.
I think its that artist personality. I really care about visuals. Something that's easy on the eyes, if not uplifting and inspiring.

I'm Swearing off Multi-Frame Commissions
Posted 3 years agoI will finish the commissions in my waiting list that this applies to, but after that I'm not doing any more. When I say multi-frame I mean comic-style pages with multiple frames including a full body of the same character. My art style lends itself well to single pictures where I can do a lot of detail. The more I have to divide that up the more stressful finishing the picture tends to be. Now, I can make exceptions for some insets where its a detail shot of a foot or something. I just have a lot of difficulty drawing the same character full-body over and over. Thanks for reading.
The Fish Show
Posted 3 years agoI tell ya, watching the fish in a fish tank is surprisingly entertaining. And to anyone who has a fish tank I'd suggest getting snails too. As they're also entertaining to watch. Plus they'll clean the glass and decor for you. And if you're into gardening like I am, the aquascaping aspect is fun as well. Currently have Loaches and Tetras in my tank. Loaches are another really interesting sea creature to watch, as they have a lot of personality. Tetras not so much, but they look pretty.
Sing 2
Posted 3 years agoWas really good. I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Not even any forced woke political crap like I've come to expect from modern movies. Just a good wholesome family movie. Also, I can totally see why people love Porsha now, haha. Also Wolf dad is kinda underrated. Really liked him too. Most of the characters were very likeable tbh. There wasn't any one I found unbearable.
Autism Sucks
Posted 3 years agoBeing lonely, but finding it very hard to create meaningful relationships. You want to spend time around people, but at the same time quickly lose interest when you do. The difficulty reconciling your beliefs with people who disagree even a little bit. Trouble functioning well enough to hold a normal job or live a normal life. And the resulting feel of guilt for not contributing more to society.
I mention that because I just got in a massive argument with my sister. We don't agree on very much unfortunately. My inability to reconcile disagreements with others played into it though. Everything in the US feels so hopeless right now, and not being able to vent about that had been building up. And in my area if you disagree with someone on some political or social issue discussing it is discouraged. Not considered polite conversation. And considering I disagree with many of the local views.... Kinda sucks that one of my few interests is politics. I'm also anger prone. So factor that in, haha. Just end up stewing a lot of the time. My solution has been trying to ignore the news, but then you feel very cut off and isolated. But yeah, I felt bad for blowing up at her, so I apologized. Still feel bad. Just wish it was easier to talk about that stuff with people. Online just isn't the same as real life.
Its not all negative though I guess. Now that spring is here I can mow lawns again and mess around in my garden, something I enjoy doing. And make some money. I've also been doing art more. Painted my sister a picture of her dogs. So its something. Trying to stay positive.

Dating
Posted 3 years agoProbably not the best place to ask for dating advice. However, I'm looking to meet girls. Figure it cant hurt to ask for advice. I don't know where to even start. Was thinking of Tinder, but so many people say its a terrible site that's only there to take advantage of people. I've seen suggestions to volunteer or join local clubs. But doing that to date people feels really scummy. Also don't think the type of person I want to meet would be doing that stuff. And anyway I'm autistic, and never liked being social with strangers. Also have very narrow interests, mainly limited to art, history, old stuff, and exploring places.

Superman (1978)
Posted 4 years agoMight be spoilers, but the movie was made in 1978, so...
I've been watching scenes from the old 1978 Superman movie. I've never seen the full movie. But man, the scenes I've watched of it are fantastic. The acting is phenomenal. I can totally understand why Christopher Reeves was so beloved as Superman. All the actors were fantastic though.
Not just that, but the movie was beautiful. I mean it made me want to live in Kansas it was so beautifully portrayed. And the shots of the arctic were beautiful as well. I love the practical effects, even if they could look cheesy at times. Honestly CGI doesn't do much for me though, so I was fine with a little cheese. (On a bit of a tangent, I think movies rely too much on CGI now, to the point where I have a hard time getting invested in them because it feels so unreal)
Portrayal of Krypton felt property alien and foreign, and the scene of its destruction was gut-wrenching. As was the scene of Clark's adoptive father's death. That was such a simple scene, but it was done so well.
Overall the movie has a very positive and hopeful tone though, one of my favorite things about it. Its very triumphant and cheerful.

I Need a Sharper Spoon
Posted 4 years agoSo I was cleaning a pumpkin to make Pumpkin pie, and if you've never cleaned a Pumpkin before, it requires a decent amount of force to scoop the guts out, as well as a sturdy spoon for scooping. So I'm looking through our serving spoons to find one with a sharper edge. And found myself asking "Do we have a sharper spoon?" which was not something I ever thought I'd say.
Anyway I got a ton of Pumpkin puree from this jack-o-lantern. so I'm going to make a pie, but I also want to try and make Pumpkin soup. And yes, I'm aware that Sugar Pie Pumpkins are better for pies, but Jack-O-Lantern is nearly as good, and hey it was free from a neighbor. Seriously, don't let anyone tell you Jack-O-Lanterns don't work for pies (I would advise against using ones that have been carved, as they'll quickly rot). We've made ours from them for years now, and they always turn out good. Pumpkin pie can be made from many different types of Pumpkin, as well as a few varieties of Squash. And whatever you decide to make will be way better than store bought.

Interesting Ghost Dream
Posted 4 years agoHad another interesting dream.
I kept trying to go into the basement, but the lights kept breaking every time I turned one on. They were those pull string kind where it's just a bulb and a socket, and the bulbs were burnt out or shattered. So I kept having to look for new bulbs. It was like my basement here, but much larger, darker, and more cluttered. Even when the lights were working the spaces were dim, so there were these dark spaces between each bare illuminated bulb. And I started to see figures. There were 3, a young woman with black hair, a young red haired man in the victorian era clothing of a young man, the third a ghostly figure of an older teen girl somewhere between 16 and 19 with dirty blonde hair and a simple if frilly white sun dress. The third one I started to see regularly. At first I was very afraid, but as I started to see her regularly I figured out she wasn't a threat.
For some reason I kept finding a blue duffel bag in what was my sister's old room. A typical girls room with white painted wooden furniture with pink accents, as well as pink and white bedding. And one night while in the basement I see her pick up the folded duffel back, which had been replaced back in the basement, and disappear. Lo and behind it was in my sisters bedroom again (The ghost girl was not my sister. In fact I discussed the duffel bag with my sister in the same dream when she found it lying on her bed during a visit). I figured out the girl was hinting that she was trying to run away from home when she died. And later deduced that something heinous had been done to her in her old house by a boyfriend.
I kept having flashbacks to an isolated farmhouse with a big white wooden barn behind it, with a clump of trees growing up behind the barn, bare fields all around. The barn had the logo of a stern looking mans face painted on it along with text, some sort of advertisement (I know, why would such an isolated barn have an advertisement on it? I have no idea either). In another dream I found out that a pillow had been stashed in the barn, the last remaining item from what had been done to her. So I had to set out to the farm to find it and destroy it. So I go out looking for this farm. And being decades later it was in ruins. The house had imploded from neglect and was being consumed by vines and undergrowth. The barn just barely standing, with 1/3 of the structure collapsed. The white paint was quite worn, with most of the remaining structure the color of weather beaten wood, but some of the old advertisement remained. It was in fact the same location from my dreams. And surrounded by barren freshly tilled fields just like in the old days.
(And that was the end. I woke up before the dream finished)

More trees Cut Down
Posted 4 years agoI frequently go for walks. If I can't get to a forested park to hike I'll walk around the neighborhood where I live. And usually take routes that will take me down streets with large numbers of trees. i love trees. For whatever reason, seeing them, walking below them, enjoying their beauty. It relaxes and rejuvenates me. Gives me more of an appreciation for life. And lately it's getting harder and harder to find streets with trees on them. I'd estimate since my family moved here 25 years ago about 1/4 to 1/3 of the trees have been removed. Majority of which were those lining the streets. In 1996 parts of the neighborhood were a virtual forest. One end of my street was lined with Cherry Blossoms. Many houses had huge pairs of Elms or Oaks from 1969 when the neighborhood was built.
On the one hand I can understand if a tree is rotten, damaged, or dying, it being removed. But on the other the trees are rarely replaced. I'd say they're replaced maybe 5% of the time, almost always with a much much smaller species. Usually a Dogwood or similar species. A sad replacement for a towering majestic Oak or Elm. The variety is also shrinking. The builders went wild with the landscaping in 1969. Nature was in. People were fleeing to suburbs from the bleak, polluted and often plant-bare American cities(They fled for other reasons too, crime, riots, etc). And so new developments were becoming little oasis of trees and gardens. Thus the buildings put in not just a huge number of them, but a vibrant variety as well. Everything from flowering Crabapple to Blue Spruce to Silver Maple. The few new trees planted lack variety to an extreme degree. If it's not a Dogwood its a Maple. That's it. No Oaks, no Sycamores, no Birch trees, no Sassafras, no Norway Spruce, no Tulip Poplar, Cherry Blossoms, etc.
I know recently another of the old Elms (my personal favorite of all the trees here. Still haven't forgiven my parents for removing ours) has been cut on the street behind us, and so have been avoiding that street. Used to be 7 of them in a neat row spread among the front yards of 4 houses. Down to 3 now. Every time it happens though its this instinctive gut wrenching response. Never gets easier. Almost like losing a family member. Nothing else upsets me more.
I apologize for sounding like a repeating record. Just need to get that off my chest.
Anyway I'm using it as inspiration. I've been saving every bit I can to get a place in the woods surrounded by trees, somewhere where I don't have to worry about trees being removed. This neighborhood feels so barren and empty these days. Doesn't help that even the houses no longer have the bright late 1960s tones they used. Shades of moss Green, Harvest Gold, Fall Red, Navy Blue, replaced by beige, white or gray. Even used to be pink ones in the next neighborhood. People don't want color anymore though, nor do they want nature. Everything is man made materials, plastics, even the stone is fake.
I also should mention I don't hate the American suburbs. Given plenty of plantlife the older suburbs can be beautiful places. And there's no place to have all of my gardens in the city in the backyard of a rowhouse. So I'm glad to live in a country where I'm not limited to just city or country.

So I saw Princess and the Frog
Posted 4 years agoIt was really good. No complaints. Loved the setting in 1920s New Orleans. All of the characters were interesting and likeable. The villain was cool and intimidating. Music was great. It had a really good message too surprisingly. Would recommend.
