A Senator with backbone
General | Posted 3 years agoGreetings reader
Our country is getting more polarized. Senators are now attaching other Senators because they speak the truth about disenfranchised minorities. One Senator has the backbone to stand and say enough of this false, back stabbing, hatred. I am only sorry Senator Mallory McMorrow's speech will mostly be recognized by others as a reason to hate on her more. When did we stop valuing speaking the truth? When did we get so fragile we can not tolerate hearing the truth? Or is un-truths and spreading lies just a ploy used by some to win at any cost?
Michigan lawmaker says, ‘We will not let hate win’

"Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, a Democrat representing suburban Metro Detroit communities, pushed back against a Republican colleague who falsely accused her of wanting to “groom and sexualize kindergarteners,” and hold 8-year-olds responsible for slavery in a fundraising email.
In an April 19 speech on the Michigan Senate floor, McMorrow denounced the campaign email from Republican state Sen. Lana Theis "

Pandas - vegetarians or carnivores
General | Posted 3 years agoGreeting reader
Have you ever wondered about pandas? Pandas diets are 95% bamboo; but they have canine teeth and short digestive tracks like most carnivores. What is up with that?
Well researchers have been following pandas to see what they eat. It turns out panda seek out bamboo parts that are high in protein - just like meat.

Sometimes do you feel like the world is burning down. Like all the advancement the species has made from barbarism is just a thin surface layer that is slipping away. Me too some times. This song captures that mood in ways I can not put into words.
Sometimes you just have to get the sad out.

Forgottonia - a place to remember
General | Posted 3 years agoGreetings reader
Never underestimate those cleaver citizens in Illinois in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
"Frustration among the citizens and officials of western Illinois was mounting behind a lack of support for transportation and infrastructure projects in the area." [1]
"According to a 2010 interview with the McDonough County Voice, Gamm recalled “The idea is that we would secede from the Union, immediately declare war, surrender, then apply for foreign aid." [1]

Now that is a very clever way to get federal funding! Forgottonia a place, an idea, that should be remembered.
May this amusing story (it is true) bring a smile to your day.

And now for something totally different . . .
Image you are a traveler without limits of time or space. You could go anywhere and see anything. In an homage to the origins of furry in science fiction, and some of the furry music parodies; I ask this question.
What happens when the universes of Dr Demento and crazy music, the song 'Garbage Man' by the Cramps, and William Shatner cross into a metaverse?
What would you see? What would you hear? Something I have no words to describe.

So where are you? Are we on the verge of planetary nuclear war destruction? Or is the specter of total human species destruction so terrible that we will draw back from the brink? Or are we someplace in between? I bet we are someplace in between.
I hope I have brought you some moments of refection on the human species. My apologies if I caused any angst by presenting realty in such stark terms.

Social Media - what are we going to do with it
General | Posted 3 years agoIn this world actions seem to recently have become angrier, while the Furry Fandom seems to be trying to claim civility. The rapid development of social media seems to be a major factor.
The Internet as we know it today started around 1994, Facebook started in 2004, Twitter started in 2006, the first smartphone was sold in December 2007, new Artificial Intelligent engines now exist that can create content indistinguishable from human created content. Every single person on this planet, using AI or their own ideas, now has the power to broadcast their thoughts and ideas to the entire planet at almost no cost. In this very short time our species has acquired this new power to influence others. But have we acquired the wisdom needed to safely use this power? And by the way, this genie is not going back into the bottle, we better adjust or evolve to use this new power; or this new power will destroy us.
The Atlantic magazine 14 days ago released a new article with relevant discussion on the subject. It points out the failings of right and left extremists using social media in ways that are destroying our society institutions with current social media. I believe the article is a must read for everyone.
WHY THE PAST 10 YEARS OF AMERICAN LIFE HAVE BEEN UNIQUELY STUPID

I also believe the largest part of the solution is for each individual to learn to manage their own conformational biases. Yes, I am looking at you TimidGrizzly. If each individual took a day to think about a social media item before re-tweet/like/share the item; if each individuals took a small amount of time to get the whole pictures not just that one tweet or Facebook item before re-tweet/like/share the item; if each individual would ask how this confirms or opposes their own conformational biases before re-tweet/like/share the item; our society would not be so hostile.
Society is the sum of our individual acts each day. I ask myself for each social action/tweet/share/like; what type of world am I adding too by my specific action today. We can be thinkers not manipulated followers; if we choose. The angry society stops when we do not feed it as manipulated followers.
I hope this inspires self reflection.

El Capitan Palace Theater
General | Posted 4 years agoGreetings reader
Today let me introduce you to the El Capitan Theatre; a historic movie palace theater in Los Angeles (i.e. Southern California area); restored to museum quality in 1989 by the Walt Disney Company. And Disney makes good use of the theater by showing old and new Disney movies here. Each movie (at least the ones I have seen there) was preceded by a unique to the movie 20 minute stage show before the movie. It you are in Southerner California, this is a wonderful field trip to see the splendor of the theater and to see the latest Disney movie on the big screen.
For more information visit this website https://elcapitantheatre.com
BTW, TCL Chinese Theater (with the foot and hand prints in cement) and Hollywood Wax Museum are within two block walking distance.
Paking in LosAngeles is harder than any video game boss you can imagine. IMHO, the easiest and Fasted way to get to El Capitan Theater Palace is:
- Drive to 5391 Lankershim Bl, N Hollywood 91601 & park in 767 space parking lot.
- Pay for parking (see below)
- Walk to the subway stairs/escalator. (about 10 feet from parking kiosks).
- At the bottom of the stairs/escalator, are ticket machines for purchasing TAP cards and putting fairs on TAP card.
The standard fair is $1.75 and allows you to ride until you exit the subway. There is a senior discount fair.
You will need one fair to get from car to theater, and another to get back.
- Use TAP card get though turn styles and go down more stairs/escalator.
- Board MetroLink B Line train going in the direction of UNION STATION
- Exit train on second stop at Hollywood/Highland station (6801 Hollywood Bl)
Trains come every 6 minutes during the day. Allow 20 minute for the ride.
- Go up escalator to street level. Across the street is the El Capitan Theater.
Parking
5391 Lankershim Bl, N Hollywood 91601
767 spaces - paid parking
$3.00 daily (this is zone 203)
Paid Daily Parking Permit
- Pay for parking
at the on-site kiosks,
with the Metro Parking mobile app (available through Google Play and the App Store ),

My rule is: if they come to me = probably a scam. If I go to them (and I am sure it is a real government website) = probably legitimate.

Just be careful. There are scammers posing as part of the affordable-connectivity-program.
My rule is: if they come to me = probably a scam. If I go to them (and I am sure it is a real government website) = probably legitimate.

Today, a moment to remember Furp
General | Posted 4 years agoOn February 18th we take a few minutes to honor the memory of Furp. In real life Furp was known as Patrick Reed. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, served in the Iraq War, and trained as an EMT. He was working on the Twentynine Palms Marine base when, on February 18, 2009 a car cut in front of his motorcycle causing his fatal motorcycle accident. He was 29 years old.
Furp worked an and EMT at many furry conventions. His stick was to have furries who envied too much alcohol chewy an aspirin.

General | Posted 4 years agoToday, February 16, we take a few minutes of silence to remember Lemonade Coyote, a missing fur ( January 27, 1989 - February 16, 2013 ). http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Lemonade_Coyote
Tim McCormick in real life, he was an EMT working on an ambulance crew in Indianapolis, Indiana. On February 16, 2013 his ambulance, while on a call, was hit by a car running a red light. Tim McCormick (age 24), and Cody Medley the other EMT, where killed.
Tim was was well loved in the furry community. At Anthrocon 2013, Uncle Kage gave this moving tribute to Tim

He was an eagle scout. And his work as an EMT (2000+ rescues) lead Indianapolis to mount a very large memorial at his passing. A tribute that stopped the city during the memorial.

Happy 2/2/22
General | Posted 4 years agoGreetings everyone
Prepare! A special day is just around the corner. A day that only comes once a century! Wednesday will be 2/2/22. A fantastic reason to celebrate, there must be cake and ice cream. But if you miss 2/2/22; you have another chance for a once-in-a-century day on 2/22/22 - a mere 20 days later. AND 2/22/22 also falls on a Two's day. More CAKE AND ICE CREAM! Every month should be like this.
May all your days present reasons to celebrate.

Amazing what you see when you look at the background. For instance, I was watching The History Guy - The Great New York Fire of 1835. If you look to the presenter's left (our right), and on the wall, what do you see?
