FAQ - February 2019
Posted 6 years agoQ: Can I sell 3d-prints of your 3d-models?
A: No. That would create unfair competition for my friends who sell their 3d-printed head bases (not based on my models).
Q: Can I sell a finished fursuit head that is based on your 3d-prints?
A: Ask first - I usually say yes - no mass production, please.
Q: Are you open for commissions?
A: No, but I sometimes do requests or trades (not very often as I do not have enough spare time). Tell me if you have an interesting idea for a head base or puppet.
Q: Do you sell 3d-printed fursuit head bases?
A: I sometimes sell a test-print at a local convention (made for my own head - too small for most people) - I do not ship them.

3d-modelling and 3d-printing fursuit head bases - FAQ Video
Posted 7 years agoIn 2014 I bought a 3d-printer and started to make 3d-models for fursuit and puppet head bases. As I started to show my creations I got a lot of questions. Lately, some people requested video tutorials - here's a video of my first answer session:
If you are new to 3d-printing fursuit head bases start at https://tioh.livejournal.com/104887.html - there is also a German version https://tioh.livejournal.com/104677.html

Pawpet-Show Patreon
Posted 7 years agoThe Pawpet-Show, one of the events held at Eurofurence, started a Patreon. The show grew over the years -that also means it got more expensive.
For the last years, the team members bought most of the materials for the puppets, costumes, special effects, props, etc. with their own money. It would be really nice if some people would help to lessen the financial burden.
The show will go on - even if not many people will support the show thru Patreon.

EF24: New handpuppets for the Eurofurence Pawpet-Show
Posted 8 years agoI started making parts for new puppets and I try to film most of it. Currently, I'm not sure how many people would be interested in some video-tutorials. If interest is big enough I'll put more time into the videos - if it's minimal I'll only show some highlights.

My Eurofurence 23 panels
Posted 8 years agoI'll host two panels this year: "How to build cheap fursuits" and "3d-printing for fursuits, puppets and figures"
What panels should I host at Eurofurence 23?
Posted 8 years agoHere's what I did in the past
- Fursuit round table
- Fursuit making - cheap, with animatronics, live,...
- Puppets building
- 3d modelling and printing
I guess I'll find the time to do two panels max at EF23. What topic(s) would interest you the most?

EF23: Hand-puppets for the Pawpet-Show
Posted 9 years agoLike every year I try to make some parts for new puppets. Starting with some 3d-printed head bases.
I'm open for suggestions on what species I should model next - preferably something I haven't made yet.
3d-models for Brownbear, Icebear, 5 different Birds, Dog, Wolf, Fox, Cat, Deer, Squirrel, Raccoon, Dragon and several Toons already exist.
What species do you want so see?

EF 22 panel: 3d-printing for fursuits, puppets and figures
Posted 9 years agoI will cover most of the things that I listed here: http://tioh.livejournal.com/104887.html
This post is for questions that you would like me to answer during the panel - I have a lot of examples lying around, but I cannot bring everything to EF. So if there is a specific topic that interests you about 3d-printing tell me here.

3d-printed fursuit head-base v7 - video
Posted 10 years agoThis is a minimal fursuit head-base with a movable lower jaw. It took 8 hours to print it in PLA - the plastic weights 112g. I made the 3d-model.
How to build a foam body for a hand-puppet - video part 1
Posted 10 years agoThis video shows how to make the main part of a puppet foam-body for a hand-puppet - in the style of the puppets from the Eurofurence Pawpet-Show. I will use this body with a 3d-printed head-base.
The pattern for the foam-body:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14606142/
This is my basic pattern for a foam puppet-body. Most of my puppets were made with this pattern. I print it normally 47cm high, 52cm wide - cut the foam out of a cheap camping mat (closed cell foam, 0.8-1.2cm thick).
Check the dimensions of the puppeteers arm before you build the body - the pattern doesn't fit everyone - adjust it if needed.

EF 21 panel: 3d-printing for fursuits, puppets and figures
Posted 10 years agoI'm making 3d-models for fursuits, hand-puppets and other props for over two years now and I print them with my FlashForge Creator 3D-printer. While doing that I've tried several materials and settings to get the best printing results. It was a long learning-process - with this panel I want to share my experiences.

Animatronic fursuit head-base - Video - trying the neck-zipp
Posted 10 years agoI made another video with the new neck-zippers closed. The head is now comfortable to wear. I'll add the fan inside the muzzle and LED-backlights for the eyes next.
Animatronic fursuit head-base - Video
Posted 10 years agoTest-Video of the movable ears and eyelids of my 3d-printed nylon fursuit head:
This fursuit-head is not finished. The neck is not complete and the lower jaw was not adjusted for my jaw. I used a collar to hold the fake fur around my neck. The fur is a bit long in some places - it will be trimmed later.
I made the 3d-models for this head-base and printed them in Taulman Nylon with my Flashforge Creator 3d-printer. The head was printed in 618 Nylon, the eyelids in Bridge Nylon. The parts were assembled using Plaast (http://www.plaast.de/) - the teeth were made by hand.
I use bowden-cables to control the movement - no electronics, just pushing and puling on the cable. This is a very simple and cheap method to create moving eyelids and ears.
There is another video that shows the mechanics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BHXK4AS5YQ
You can get the 3d-models at Thingiverse:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:650760
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:755934
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:755955
The fur-cover can be detached from the head - sew-on-snaps hold it in place.

Test-video 3d-printed animatonic tail
Posted 10 years agohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeax-mc9TsY
The first test of a new animatronic tail. I made the 3d-models and printed them in PLA. The parts of the tail clip together - I did not glue anything. The flexible part is a rubber tube. I uses 3d-printer filament to control the movement.
You can get the model on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:699889
I control the tail by twisting (and pulling) a rod that is attached to the filament.
I do not know if I will use it in an animatronic fursuit - if moves very well without it too.
Some of the things I learned about 3d-printing - video
Posted 10 years agohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaKjE-vxpkY
I bought my 3d-printer over a year ago.
While learning to use it I read and watched all the tutorials that I could find. Some things were not really obvious - like how the quality of the filament affects the print (there are many types of PLA).
During the last year I tried different filaments (PLA, flexible PLA, ABS, Nylon, Bendlay, ...) and printed several hundred models.
Most of the problems that I encountered were caused by crappy filament. I'm really happy with the quality of the printer.
I had planned to talk about my experiences in this video, but my microphone did not cooperate - that's why I had to insert the text in the video.
Some of my 3d-models are on Thingiverse:
