SO... yeah, the QUICK story is during dinner cleanup at my grandma's I managed to fumble my way through the kitchen and got my face pretty well acquainted with her granite counter tops and my tooth lost out pretty big and kind of hurts like a sunovah right now. BUT I do not have insurance that covers dental emergencies, so I'm pretty much paying out of pocket on everything for this. Being end of the month, bills have already been paid in and my spare funds are pretty low, which is the same for most of my family right now. They can help out a little, but the 'over the phone free consultation' guestimated at least a couple hundred for a probable extraction of the remaining tooth, not to mention getting a replacement made for it ;_;

SO I will be busting out a metric butt ton of YCH today as sort of a black friday flash... sale? sorta? they'll be a bit cheaper than some of the ones, but I'm literally just going to be sketching and posting YCHs all day today, or until I can get enough together to definitely cover dentist trip number 1 and get something stronger than over the counter pain killer stuff to at least stall the pain right now because it is really really bad. I literally don't know how to even explain it but it's like... pretty awful right now.



The YCH sketches are gonna be pretty fast and loose I think, because idk how much I'm gonna be able to really concentrate on them until I get at least a little something done on this, but I'm ALSO GONNA BE OPEN FOR MORE COMMISSIONS! I probably won't be able to properly start/work on them for at least the next day or so. The last one I just finished up literally just had highlights left to do so I finished that real quick.



This next part is gonna have a little more info on what exactly's going on with the tooth itself, so be warned.

I warned anyone that's all squicky about tooth/pain stuff beyond being super vague.





I managed to actually hang on to the dish enough that it didn't break on impact on the ground, but in doing so manage to sacrifice my right upper canine into the edge of the countertop with a pretty spectacular combination of shattering and cracking the tooth in half? The outer edge is literally gone right now and the part that's left is stuck between a constant not-so-dull throbbing ache and a pulsing stabbing firelike pain that's going through my whole head. I've had an ice compress on it the entire afternoon and drive home*thank god I wasn't driving, I don't think I could right now* and I've had so much extra strength excedrin right now that I really PROBABLY shouldn't take more but holy shit can I tell when it's wearing off, like woah, please just put me out of my misery already. Yeah there was blood, which has sort of finally stopped, but it still blips a little bit here and there if I end up messing with it too much, but I can't even really close my jaw right now, and the little bit of partial dozing I got an hour ago was only like, little half hour naps until I moved wrong and everything hort again.

So the guy was out to fix it but he didn't have the right part on hand, and thanks to the holiday it'll take another week probably before he can get a new one shipped in u_u'

OK so, cookies haven't been finished yet, but I'd wanted to get them mailed and to people before Thanksgiving, but that's not looking like it'll be happening because I JUST got a new stove and there's something very wrong with either the thermostat or the little gauge in there that tells the oven to stop heating up once it gets to the right temperature.

I'll heat it to 350 and get ready to put the cookies in, and thanks to a handy oldschool hanging oven thermometer I've learned my oven can get up to like, 700+ in about 10 minutes past 350. which explains why the last 3 times I've tried to do cookies they've turned out burnt to hell and back, SO we have someone coming out to take a look and hopefully fix it on monday.


I've also managed to lose almost completed art 3 times in the last week thanks to a combination of the computer dying for one reason or another, or restarting automatically for updates when I walked away for a few moments, OR my own dumb at just saving over a file as a PNG or JPG before it's done and flattening everything to one layer like a dumb ass.


But yeah, this is why I've been quiet. Took a day off to not do anything art or food related, but I'm getting back to working on stuff this afternoon and I'm just going to power through a few pieces and possibly stream in a little bit too while I'm working on things. It's just I know SOME are surprise gifts so I'm leery on doing those ones in stream :P

OK, so, fiddled with the recipe a bit more last night and I'm still really not happy with it, SO I'm going to just double up on cookie types and toss in some sugar cookies or gingerbread as the actual decorated ones. The cider cookies will have a light icing drizzle, but nothing super fancy, but I'll send along 3-4 of those with each cookie package as a little sample thing.

I'll be messaging winners now to figure out which kind of cookies people want :3

so I'm pretty sure my oven temperature is off right now because the usual 350 for 8 minutes somehow managed to partially char the bottoms of them, so I can't really get an accurate grasp on how they actually taste because everything taste the vaguely burnt with a hint of Apple but I'm going to be checking the actual temperature on my oven and also a tempting the cookies at a lower temperature because they seem to be doing very well and they hold their shape beautifully so these will definitely work as a rolled cookierecipe. I may or may not need to figure out how to give them a little bit more of an apple punch because they still taste pretty similar to just a generic shortbread sugar cookie type recipe but nowhere near as sweet and I also need to try them with the royal icing.

And will be announced when I post the finished cookies. I will be contacting the winners directly to see what they would like for their custom cookies and if they have any specifics towards their theme they would like me to try for.

I'm currently in the process of making the first test batch of cookies and I ended up making a completely off the books recipe I took a few hints from five or six other recipes but I have up scaled this to a larger back since I never make a small amount of cookies because I'm apparently a culinary masochist but it should make about three to four dozen decent-sized cookies if everything goes well but I am currently now trying to figure out if these cookies will be cookie cutter friendly or if they will end up as simple drop cookies.

SO, I'm gonna be setting up a cookie package raffle (in the USA only for now unless you'd like to pay for international shipping yourself)! Simply commenting on this journal WITH YOUR THEME will give you an entry, but only one entry per person! I'm not sure when I'm going to be picking winners for this one, but know I'm gonna be trying to do these every two to three weeks when I can.

There'll be 3 winners, one main winner and two mini winners!


These cookies will be a new recipe or me, and will definitely have apple cider. I don't know how well they will work as rolled cookies and may not hold shape as well as gingerbread or sugar cookies do. If that is the case I'm just going to ice these with a simple drizzle and make a second batch of either gingerbread or sugar cookies for actual decorating, but there may be bonus cookies in this batch.


*The main winner will get a dozen (12) cookies! 2 can be custom cut shapes and the others will be more generic-y shapes. Basically anything I have cookie cutters for, so simple shapes or holiday stuff right now. I'm working on getting more cutters though

*Mini Winners will get a half dozen(6) cookies! 1 of the six can be a custom cut shape and the others will be simpler :3

*Most of the cookies will be between 2 and 4 inches, though I have some smaller cutters and larger cutters, so it's sort of a mystery!

*Winners will also be able to give me a simple theme to work with! So something like a holiday, flowers, cookies based of a certain character or stuffed animal, etc.




The point of these cookie sets is to give me more practice in decorating and using different techniques and getting better at things I'm NOT very good with yet, OR just practicing basic techniques. Sometimes I will have a pre-set-up style theme I'm wanting to work with, like a more folk-art style, or wanting to use a limited pallet of 2 or 3 colors. Sometimes I will already have a side theme set up as well, like christmas cookies but with a personalized twist like above!





AS A BIG NOTE, ANYONE WITH MAJOR FOOD ALLERGIES SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL IF EATING THESE COOKIES! I work in a kitchen that has nuts and tree nuts and other major food allergens in it constantly, and while I do try to keep my work area clean at all times, there is a small chance that cross contamination CAN HAPPEN! I do a LOT of cooking and baking and when I go on a baking spree things can get mixed accidentally, so PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES BEFORE HAND AND I WILL TRY TO KEEP YOUR COOKIES AS SEPARATE AS I CAN!

Figured it'd be better to get started on this stuff now rather than waiting until it's like a week till christmas or whatever X3

It's getting to be cookie season again and I always end up making a TON of cookies between october and january and decorating them for the season, but october is usually my 'refresher month' on decorating and stuff, and I was thinking "MAN It'd be SO FUN do to character cookies!"

I tend to do sugar cookies, gingerbread, and shortbread cookies for decorating, and I'll be posting my recipes for those up *as well as one for royal icing* later as I make them, but I was wondering if anyone would want to toss out a character to eventually get done up on a cookie? I'll probably only do 2-4 character cookies per batch, but I thin they'd be a really fun little challenge :3

It's 3am and I'm super awake right now if anyone wants to do an art trade *or two or three?*

Probably not more than three cause I know if I don't finish it tonight it might take me a couple days to get back on the computer to color it.
