Backstory: I dated someone I met through FA for a year and a half (2020-2021). He was my first boyfriend, and I loved him to death, but ultimately being with him was not right for me so I broke up with him and deleted a bunch of commissions we had together because any pictures of him put me in real agony for like a year or two afterwards (again: first breakup lol).

I paid for all but one of our commissions together, and recently I went through old FA notes, Telegram and Discord messages to assess the damage - roughly ~$540 worth of art that I basically deleted from my FA gallery over a guy I genuinely haven't thought about for years. And it's all pretty hot art too lmao!

So here's where I'm at now: I'm considering reuploading these pieces to my gallery. They're mainly couple pieces, some NSFW stuff, and a few character interactions that I honestly really liked and miss having in my collection.

Part of why I have time to even think about this is because of a major life change happening right now. As some may know, I've been a university librarian, on and off, for the past 12 years. About a month ago, my university started a hiring freeze due to budget cuts and the current political climate around higher education. Bottom line, this is my last week, as I and many others are being laid off.

I will ask people not speculate about my (currently) "former" employer, cuz I will be fine. I went through this with the pandemic, and I'm still here lol! I might be working odd jobs for a while, but I already got a head start on studying programming the past year, learning other new skills, and when the hiring freeze got announced, I began applying for other jobs.

I am pretty sure he has me blocked on here lmao), but don't want to spam people's feeds with a bunch of old stuff, and I don't wanna give anyone the wrong ideas here. I am mostly just pissed I spent $500 bucks on art and no one can see it. That's basically it!!!!

The Lesson Learned:

Ngl, one of the big reasons I feel comfortable going back to ANE this year is because the former heads got kicked out for being meanies.

(The two links I just posted are official tweets from the ANE con account, and I won't be giving names or many details so I don't violate any FA "Call-out" rules. This is furry news that happened, but I am not saying names just to be extra safe for my accounts sake lol. Also: cuz toxic peeps like attention, even negative, so lets just leave them be, mmkay?)

My response to the ANE news? *Good* lol. I am very happy those two are gone from the con. So happy, in fact, I am going back *explicitly*because those two likely aren't going to be there (I hope).

I personally did not have many pleasant experiences with either of them. I had *some* good times, but they were *very* few and far between, and it kept me from going back to the con in general, because I just didn't want to run into them or their weird little fiefdom of Boston-based furry Wormtongues. Seriously: if you lived in the Boston furry scene the last few years, you know the power these two concentrated purely because they ran the big local furry con, and how fractured things became locally because of said power concentration under two incompetent rulers surrounded by their weird, "power"-hungry sycophants. They had these furries who, *and this is my personal speculation*, basically always supported them and their bad ideas or actions, purely because they ran the local furry con, so they had more "power" than regular furries might have. But over time, even these sycophants removed themselves, or were kicked out of the in-group for stupid furry drama/palace intrigue nonsense.

Not to make this a call-out and list specific behaviors, but I got stories, and just from my personal experiences: they were not good to be around. My life got better without them involved at all. I can actually pinpoint leaving them and their weird sycophantic crew behind a few years ago as a positive milestone in my life, which I would later repeat in late 2023 with another crowd in another state.

Every time I leave people who make me feel bad about myself, my life gets better. The abusive voice in my head would say "Its you, they're fine." But its not me. Its them, and "them" ain't changing because of their "um actually, the problem IS you, I'm perfect" ego defense. These people I've left behind all had pretty bad addictions, habits or patterns of behavior that they always had an excuse for. Its akin to an alcoholic not quitting drinking, not because he knows its not bad for him, but because its manly, or he can quit whenever he wants to and just doesn't want to, or is annoyed you'd even point this out after everything he does for you, on and on with the excuses rather than fixing the problem or making an attempt to do so. The major lesson I started learning from the former con peeps who got banned: some people just can't be reached, until they are ready. And some folks just won't ever be ready. They will live and die as addicts, or as angry losers, or always online nutjobs not living in real life. There's a reason the first step in Alcoholics Anonymous is "You have to admit there's a problem". Its not just saying "I know I got a drinking problem", cuz anyone can just say the words. I know, cuz I've left behind many alcoholics who can admit there's a problem, but refused to do anything about it. Its not my job to live their lives for them, to fix them, to improve them. I can help a little, by pointing something out and trying to nudge them in a more positive direction. But at some point, ya gotta live your own life for yourself and stop blaming everyone else for what is clearly your problem.

I found out roughly 2-3 years after I left the weird Boston furry flop house crew behind that I was "banned" from their party house for "being problematic". I stopped hanging with them years earlier, so I found it funny, and as more people peeled away from them over time for similar "I was cancelled for being problematic, with no details as to what I said or did" (among many other complaints about those two in particular), the stories built up until they were ousted from leading ANE. Turns out they'd pissed a lot of people off over the years, with their problematic behavior (which again, the links give some details, but I don't want my account to get sniped over this journal lol).

I have no idea if they are somehow still involved in the operations, and I would be disappointed to hear that they were somehow, but my understanding is that the con board kicked them both out and they are all but banned (if not outright barred from entry). This is just my assumption from things that I have heard, I have zero evidence backing this up. But from my understanding: they out, so I'm back in UwU!

tldr: I'm going back to ANE because they're gone.
Lesson: Do not live your life in such a way that people are happier and better when you're no longer in their lives.

TAG BLOCKING:

First off: love it! Its a great start to the new year on FA! And when I look at the Javascript/HTML/CSS frontend in inspector, its pretty elegant and simple! I'd love to offer some ideas for updates to the next version:

1. When there's no tags, don't automatically hide the gallery art.
I'm seeing submissions with no tags in them get blurred by the tag system, solely because there's no tags.
- I might suggest required tagging, requiring 2-3 tags before submission, which could even offer suggestions based on the submitters previously used tags.
- This could also refine the NSFW system, because if a post has a NSFW tag, the submission could automatically block submitting a piece as "General" rating, and instead mandate "Mature" or "Adult" based on the tag. I've seen enough people forget to rate a piece "Adult" to know this safe guard would help.
- Compatibility with third party tools like PostyBirb wouldn't necessarily be broken, since it automatically handles tagging and ratings for bulk uploads on its end already! They would just have to update error code calls for a submission not submitting because of the tagging error, which again could be helped with an autocomplete tool based on prior uploads.

2. Make it three tiers.
Tier 1- Blur with no warning
Tier 2- Blur with warning about the blocked tag
Tier 3- Don't even show me the image.

Currently, with the blur applied to all submissions with zero tags, it is filtering items that I wouldn't object to, and makes it a gamble to click on anything because I don't know why it was blurred. Some kind of warning label on top of the blur stating why its been blurred might be nice.

(Tho I reckon a setting to either explicitly label "Warning: Submission includes one of your blocked tags" versus "Submission is blocked cuz you don't wanna see feet!" might vary from person to person.)

Either way, love the first version of it, and I'm already getting use out of it! Good job, team! I offer suggestions hoping to help make the site better however I can help, not trying to annoy anyone lol!

- High fees
