General | Posted 3 years agoBy this point everyone had a worst personal year since 2020 distopia started. I'm just glad nobody died of all my friends and family.
Now we go into 2020 v3.0 and my betts are on China finally making a major move on Taiwan, crashing Moors law and all electronics into early 90s or beyond. Could end out of a job. Could get good at optimization. Time will tell.
In the mean time buckle up.
Hope for the best.
Prepare for the worst.

Almost got crippled by it myself in march.
Completely ruined my work/sleep schedule with work from home.
Most stuff I wanted to do did not get done.
Peaked by December mom catching a regular cold, new responsibilities at work failing, with need to collect 2 days of overtime.

General | Posted 8 years agoManaged to recover about 45GB of most vital 10 year long data and then some.
Here's the status:
It's 25 Celsius at home, with humidity at 50-60 since its raining some of the days.
The hard drive starts up fine. Fired it up 5 times.
In one case lasted up to 48 minutes before I shutdown the rig to let the drive cool.
Had 2 clicking freeze ups (followed by manual power button long press shutdown) and 3 OK normal shutdowns.
Noticed again that the case of the hard drive tends to warm up, especially when the clicking happened.
Had 1 FileExplorer crash-restart for no reason, but this did not follow with the clicks.
In one case I tried to copy about 10GB in one go and it froze up clicking.
In another it was a 50MB over a year old PDF file.
So I cant just copy-paste the whole drives.
My guess so far: couple of bad sectors and a bad drive motor
Unplugged the drive until further notice.
P.S.
Never before in my life has raindrops on metal and plastic temperature deformation made me so jumpy.

How to deal with clicks of death?

Today I decided to access some VERY old files on my PC, located on an older of the 3 hard drives.
The files read fine at first, but then file explorer froze up opening the right click menu, and the harddrive started giving the click of death.
I rebooted the PC immediately.
Went to files, copied them out to another folder. All seamed fine for 15-30 minutes, but then I fired up StarCraft 2, and about 10 minutes in mid game the hard drive started to give the clicks of death again, even though it should not have been in any way in use by the game.
At this point I rebooted and disconnected it from the PC. It was a bit warmer to the touch than the other drives.
There's under 300 GB of data on that thing, separated in 3 local discs, with some important enough to recover. A friend of mine, who deals with this shit, said hell be available to help in 2 weeks.
So my question:
Is it all fucked now? Or just the very old files in specific locations?
What are my odds of recovering most of the new data on it?

A good year
General | Posted 9 years agoFor many 2016 was a horrible year.
For me it was a good year of recovery.
Things stabilized at work. And in the world a lot of bad or useless things that should have been burned and cast aside did catch on fire, hard. What goes around, comes around. And good riddance.
The era of the pandering, political correctness, millennials and globalism is slowly coming to an end. We see ourselves now more not only as equals in origins, but also as social contributors and unwanted parasites. We look forward to hard work, respect, merit, and low pay. Not a great fate, but a better one we were on before.
Sadly, many friends had a run of bad luck. Some to the point of horrid. You have my sorrow.
Others still think their delusions are justified, no matter how much evidence presented otherwise. I have failed you. I am sorry.
Now all we can do is look forward to the year of change. Change that we will have to make ourselves. It wont be good change, but a much needed change. For all human kind and civilizations. It won’t be easy, and we won’t see its results as soon as we would like. But change is coming. And it is welcome.
Let the world burn in normal none-atomic fire.
To 2017.

Вещи стабилизировались на работе. И в мире многие ненужные вещи, которые должны были быть сожжены и выкинуты к обочине, наконец загорелись, сильно. Всё, что должно было клюнуть в жопу, клюнуло. И к чёрту.
Эра пособничества, политической корректности, миллениумов и глобализма медленно подходит к концу. Мы видим себя не только как равных в происхождении, но и как вкладчиков в общество и нежелательных паразитов. Мы смотрим вперёд к напряженной работе, уважению, заслугам и низкой заработной плате. Не лучшая судьба, но лучше чем то что было до этого.
К сожалению, многие друзья потерпели невезения. Некоторые до полного ужаса. Позвольте выразить печаль.
Другие все еще думают, что их бред оправдан, независимо от того, сколько доказательств представлено в противоречие. Я вас подвёл. Простите меня.
Теперь мы смотрим на год перемен. Это перемены не в лучшую сторону, но столь необходимые. Для всего человечества и цивилизаций. Будет не легко, и мы не увидим результатов так скоро как хотелось бы. Но перемены грядут. И это можно только приветствовать.
Пусть горит мир в обычном неядерном огне.
