Writing updates
Posted 3 months agoRawr and such y'all!
As it has been a few months since my last upload, I figured I'd make a little update. I started writing another story after I finished the first Draco Earth segment, and said other story is turning into another book. ^^() Or at least, it seems to be headed in that direction. I figure I'll be putting in a bit more work on it to at least get to a convenient chapter break, then I aim to take a break from it to work on the next short story. So hopefully something new will be up here before long!
I also figure if this new story turns into a book length production, I'll wind up publishing it as well. Gotta get a previous book edited up and ready for publishing first though. I went through the trouble of publishing "We Come In Peace ;)", so K1 is next on the list. I'll also still ultimately wind up uploading the new book-length thingie here should it get that long, but I might give it a bit. Kinda like how folks with patreon uploads do it, or something. :) Give the publishing a chance to go for a bit, then upload away. Ultimately the goal is to have folks enjoy my writing after all. If it turns into a career, that's great! If it doesn't, no harm done.
So yeah, more writing is coming. ^.==.^ Just needs a little more time.
And for those that missed the previous journal, you can get my current book below:

If your preferred book-purchasing outlet is not listed, try searching for it anyways. Not all of the links are updated yet via the one above.

I published a book.
Posted 4 months agoSo I've been a tad busy for a while with all the things. ^^() Had the most recent short story series start up, and I still need to get another entry done. I've got notes for it and the like, but I've been working on something else in the meantime which seems to be turning into another book-length story at this point.
And in between all that, I was convinced to have another go at publishing and wound up getting something I wrote a few years ago all parcelled up and ready for publication. I opted to go with "We Come In Peace ;)" as my first attempt, as that was also the one I was being encouraged to publish. So yeah, I published it a week or so ago, and it is up now through a company called Draft 2 Digital. They run a sub-site with universal book links, and I got one of those here for y'all to use should you want to get yourselves a copy of the complete novel. ^.==.^
https://books2read.com/u/4jQ9aY
It is still slowly updating with additional links as time goes by, and as more stores confirm they'll list the physical copies or just the e-book version. So yeah, go buy my book if you want. I opted not to specifically list with Amazon as they wanted me to clear the old uploads off the internet and fuck that tbh. ^^() Plus the bezos doesn't need any more money from any of us. If they want to pick the book up themselves that's on them, but I won't send it their way.
I'd appreciate folks having a look, but no pressure. The old uploads are going to stay in my gallery, and the same goes for any future publication attempts. I figure if this goes well I'll try publishing K1 as well, and maybe the story I've got in the works now. We'll see where it all goes! Hope y'all have a good one out there wherever you are.

I'm on the fuzzy elephant site
Posted 5 months agoAs I've mentioned here before, in addition to FA I'm also on Mastodon! You can find me here: https://blimps.xyz/@Tombfyre
And if you're on bluesky, make sure to follow https://bsky.app/profile/ap.brid.gy so you can bridge your account into the fediverse. That way folks on Mastodon can follow yah, and we'll be able to reply to one-another properly.
I also plan to continue uploading all my stuff here, as that's what gallery sites are for at the end of the day. ^.==.^ Hope y'all continue to do the same.

FA status & Fender Rounding
Posted 5 months agoTo whom it may concern,
I've been emptying the contents of one of my trusty air tanks into Fender for each hour the site is down or in read-only mode.
The pile of empties has gotten pretty big...
Had to move the big blimped up mascot outside the hangar tbh...
I've lost count of how many tanks we've gone through, but I'm not hearing any complaints from the enormous fuzzy zeppelin.
So no rush, I've got plenty more tanks to go! Just don't mind the ever growing shadow looming overhead... Or the creaks and groans...
Probably nothing to worry about there. ^.==.^

Journal update
Posted 7 months agoTime to update the journal eh? Been a few months. ^^()
I've been absolutely swamped with work pretty much all year, but still managing to get some writing done. Y'all can of course see the latest uploads in my gallery, if you're so inclined! I've got yet another new story on the go as of the other day, and we'll see where that all takes me.
It is my b-day next week (The 9th for the curious), and I've booked the week off work to relax and hopefully enjoy myself a little. Don't have any firm plans atm, but I'm sure I'll think of something to do with myself. No doubt there will be a few good meals and board game days with the locals.
That's about it from me. ^.==.^

Posted 12 months agoRecent series & boss monster vibes
Posted a year agoSo I tallied up the recent story series, and it added up to just shy of 50000 words. Hooray for effectively writing another book again, eh? ^^() Hopefully folks will enjoy reading it. I've noticed my stuff tends to get a surge of views early on, then more trickle in over months and even years after. Literature does have slightly less immediate gratification compared to artwork I suppose, heh.
In other news I seem to have firmly entered into my oversized troublemaker phase so let it be known that I have 3 health bars and they wrap around one-another to form a Cool S.

On 'neers passing
Posted a year agoSo I've started and stopped writing this a few times. Didn't really know what to say that hadn't already been said elsewhere, or that I'd said myself on other journals, voice chats, etc... Still, felt I should say something and was encouraged to do so.
We'd known one-another for a very long time now, probably closer to two decades by this point. We fell in and out of contact which happens, both of us being busy with life and all. Still it was always nice to see the guy when I could, and interact however we managed to. What happened to him was incredibly unfortunate and unfair, and caused both me and countless others all sorts of grief.
It has taken me a few days to process things. Losing a friend never gets easier.
Rest well my friend. I don't know what comes after all this, but here's hoping we can say hello once again some day.

EV road trip results
Posted a year agoSo the roomie and I packed into his 2023 chevy bolt yesterday morning and took a little road trip to Drumheller. We hadn't taken the thing out of the metro area of the city up until now, so this was both a day trip for the destination and a little adventure to see how it would handle longer distances.
And hoo-boy did we learn a few things. ^^() Now I gotta start by saying I'm pro EV, but wow is the infrastructure around here not setup for good EV use just yet... You'd swear the things are all designed for short trips in a city with charging at home, and nothing else. There aren't nearly enough public chargers just in my city alone, not to mention the lack of decent chargers the further out we went into rural areas.
I got put in charge of route finding & planning for charge stops, so I opted to keep us following major highways even if that meant going somewhat longer distances. Just so we were always within range of a charger just in-case. First time out and all. ^.==.^ The bolt ideally had more than enough charge at 100% to get us where we were going, but not at highway speeds. At those speeds the efficiency fell off a cliff, and the 400-450KM of range was more like 300 if you didn't mind getting out to push for the last few kilometres.
So rather than going directly there in one shot we stopped in another city halfway to charge for a bit, stretch our legs, use the washroom, etc. We likely stayed to charge way more than we needed to but the roomie wanted to get back up to 80% just in-case, and that cost us a bit of time. And money too! The bloody charger wanted like 60 cents a minute! We only stopped at the one we were using because he had a large credit with the company in question due to some kind of promo from buying the car, but he forgot his password to the account and couldn't recover it despite fucking around for half an hour trying to do so. So that cost like $30 easy, which made just as expensive as buying gas. Not ideal tbh.
From there we drove the rest of the way to Drumheller, where I'd managed to find the only L3 charger in town. It was actually free, and located behind a car dealership. I went inside to confirm the thing was free, and they assured us it was. Though they were clearly getting setup to charge for it at some point in the future. They also offered us coffee, a place to relax if we wanted, and use of their washrooms. All they wanted in return was a good google review. So hey, fair trade. :) So yeah, we hooked up there to charge and went for a walk up the road to get some lunch. When we came back the car was charged up, and we hit the road to the Royal Tyrrell museum. Spent a good couple of hours there enjoying all the dinosaurs, including a bunch of new exhibits I hadn't seen before. It was a tad more crowded than I expected it to be in the middle of the afternoon on a Wednesday, but it is summer vacation time so that tracks. That also explains the sheer number of families there with screaming children. ^^() While I enjoyed my time there, I'm also glad we didn't linger. Also there was no EV charging of any sort at the museum, which I thought was a massive oversight. That would be a great place for mass electrification, especially if they put tons of solar on the roof of the buildings. And over the parking lots.
After that I wrangled us a route out of town to the north that avoided looping back through traffic and a bridge closure, and let us zip through some back roads instead. We stopped for supper in the same mid-way city as before just at a different charger this time, which only wanted 60 cents a KWh instead of per minute. So that only cost like $15, which was better. It was a really nice station too, with solar-panel awnings over each parking spot. The only real thoughts I had on it was why the heck was it built in the far corner of a parking lot by a gas station, rather than about half a click up the road at a mall? Doubly so seeing as the mall is where we had to then walk to get dinner. We got home just before 10pm, and were both pretty tired by then.
So! In conclusion I figure there needs to be a hell of a lot more destination chargers all over the place if the desired transition to EV's is going to happen. Also they need to be way cheaper, or free as at least some of them are starting to be. There were both paid and free L2 chargers here and there, but those are really only good if you're parking up for hours and aren't driving hundreds of kilometres after. Also we need to get off our asses and build a high speed train already with additional branch lines out to places like Drumheller, Banff, Jasper, etc. That way I could have just taken the train and not even fucked around with a car. I don't actually like cars all that much these days. They're too crunchy. ^.==.^

B-day soon and time off.
Posted a year agoTook a week and change off from work to recharge from all the things, and figured I'd make some time away from work before my b-day on the 9th. I had been planning on doing the time off after my b-day, but that just wasn't convenient for the work schedule. But before still works. And it has been over three months since I last had time off, so yeah this should be nice. ^.==.^
Went to board games today and I figure I'll try to attend next Saturday as well. Already told the locals I don't want a party or anything, as that's not really my thing these days. ^^() At least not with the non furs, heh heh.
With luck I'll get some writing done tomorrow, and over the week+ off as well. I've got some projects in the works! Plus the new series that needs another entry. :3 Hopefully that continues to go well and is enjoyed by those who opt to read it.

New story upload
Posted a year agoY'all ever go "fuck it, I'll write an isekai"? Well that happened to me a while back, so the latest story happened. Ideally it will be another series of shorts, and I've already got plenty of fun adventures and spicy content in mind. ^.==.^
Also the title is too long for the submission info so that's hilarious. Just one character short! Should be assets, not asset. Heck it was cut off to just saying "ass" until I removed the quotes. Ah well!
Please read. ^.==.^

Anyone know a furry publisher?
Posted a year agoI've been reaching out here & there to try and get this latest book o' mine published, but unfortunately I'm either getting rejection letters or sites clearly stating they're not interested in what I've got to begin with. Many more aren't accepting submissions at all, or they don't want sci-fi, or they don't want the kinda kink I so often sprinkle throughout my literature. So that doesn't really leave me with any options. ^^() There's always the self publishing route again, but that never worked out in the past. That and I don't really want to support Amazon anymore, if at all possible.
So yeah, barring alternatives I haven't thought of yet I figure I'll just package up this book o' mine and submit it here. At least that way some folks might actually read it. Maybe. Getting eyes on literature remains a problem as always. ^^()
If y'all have any ideas, feel free to share. Otherwise I'll see what happens over the week here when I've got more time to prep stuff.

Book done!
Posted 2 years agoAnd there we go, another book is complete. ^.==.^ I actually finished writing the whole thing a few weeks ago, and have spent the time since doing edits and re-writes to make the whole thing more polished. Today I also wrote up a plot synopsis and reached out to a furry publisher to see if they're interested. I need to scope out some others and see if they're the kinda place that might like what I do, and see about jumping through their particular hoops for consideration as well.
But for now at least I've got one submission out the door. Who knows, if I get picked up somewhere it might be easier to get them to consider my last book as well. Wouldn't that be nice?
Next up I've got another couple of shorts in mind, as well as a longer serialized story like how I've done for past entries like the 20XX stories, Wyrmlund universe, etc. We'll see how those go whenever I get started. I've also got some unity work I want to get done, so I reckon I'll have plenty to do over the next little bit. I'm also on break right now from work, so with luck I'll have a bit more time to relax and take care of things. Been dealing with a few too many symptoms of chronic stress for the last few months. ^^()

Almost done another book
Posted 2 years agoSo! I've been writing another book, yet again. I got started on it in the spring, and I'm nearly done with it all. Honestly might be finished next weekend, but we'll see. After that comes editing, possible re-writes, all that fun stuff. Then I need to figure out what the heck I'm doing with it.
Furry publishers were either closed or not interested in the last book I wrote, which I released here for everyone to enjoy. I'm tempted to take a self publishing route again, but the last couple attempts at that went nowhere. So yeah, not entirely sure what to do with the thing when I'm done. Might poke some furry publishers again, or explore some other options. Either way once I'm done with it I'll get back to hopefully writing some shorts. ^^ I've added like half a dozen new WIP documents to my ideas folder since getting started on this current project, heh.

Deleted the birdsite
Posted 2 years agoShould folks have not noticed my various departure messages over on 'ole musky's website full of pain and nonsense, I've deleted my Twitter account completely. It is a shame to lose all the contacts and history I had over there, but at the same time the place was a rotting skin suit being paraded around by a fascist billionaire. ^^()
I'm over on Mastodon now, and I'm still here obviously. ^^ Hopefully I'll see more of y'all on Mastodon as well! Joining up is easier than you might think, and following folks on other servers is also quite simple. Should you want to join an instance that is in invite-only mode, just ask a member for an invite. Odds are they can generate one without issue!

Life updates
Posted 2 years agoBeen a hot minute again, hasn't it?
I'm still around, and still writing. The current story on the go seems to be turning into another book, and I'm kinda letting things go where they may. Might take a break to write some shorts, who knows. Work keeps me busy, as does life. Not much time for random writing, week to week.
Still kinda meh at times on the whole writing scene too, but that's likely just the grumps talking. That and fatigue, plus all manner of other things. ^^() I'm sure I'll have something uploaded soon enough. Not that many folks read all that much anymore, but still. Woo, tired dragon.

Solar lap day 2023
Posted 2 years agoI've once again survived another year hurling around the solar system at around 30 kilometres per second. That and all the things that keep happening. ^^() So weeee, happy big-day to me!
I took today off, and I've got a few more days off atop it all making a long weekend. There's going to be much relaxing and running of errands, no doubt. Heh heh.

Avatar 2: Dances with Whales
Posted 3 years agoWent out immediately after work today to the theatre with a pal, and saw the new Avatar movie. Jokingly called it Dances with Whales about halfway through. ^.==.^ No doubt I'm not the first to do so, but still. Amusing!
Managed to have a nice meal at the theatre during the pre-show. Hooray for VIP seating and all. Had some gift cards so the movie & part of dinner was already paid for, but man are theatre prices ever out of control. I'd already stopped going to the movies super often even before the pandemic. Now it is something I rarely do, and only started doing again relatively recently. If I can't sit away from people & stay masked up as much as possible, then they're a no-go. Too many walking germ factories around for my liking still. ^^() We'll see if that starts to change this year.
Good movie all told. Story wasn't ground breaking or anything, but the visuals and music were great. A good spectacle, that's for sure. But heck, what a long runtime! As others have said, a 3+ hour film really needs an intermission. Just a moment to get up out of the chair and maybe use the facilities would have been nice. If y'all wind up going, definitely use the washroom before you sit down. ^^
Dragony Dreamlog: VR adventure park
Posted 3 years agoSo there I was chilling by the pool in a new VR world I'd built, watching people come and go as they checked the place out. It wasn't finished yet, but it was functional enough that it had a fairly regular stream of people popping into investigate things. I'd been setting up a few simple rides and fixing up part of the park surrounding the whole place, but was resting my tail for a bit while also listening to passing guest commentary.
Abruptly it stopped being a VR world and became more real, or perhaps the realism of the VR environment got dialed up a tad? In any case, one of the lights went out overhead, so a good chunk of the world was suddenly quite dark. I told everyone not to worry about it as I had spare bulbs in the basement, and casually stood up & swelled in size to reach the ceiling mounted lamps to double check things. One doesn't need ladders when they're a size shifting dragon. ^.==.^
After confirming the bulb was dead I sized back down enough to fit downstairs, which just so happened to be a dungeon of sorts? Fortunately most of the critters didn't give me any trouble. Because dragon. The handful that opted to try quickly got roasted by fire breath. Because again, dragon. ^.==.^ To get to the utility room I had to pass through an old underground warehouse that had been taken over by a kobold clan, but they were happy to see me and didn't give me any trouble as I passed by.
I stopped to say hello to them all for a moment before going to get the replacement bulbs, then noticed I was thirsty and abruptly woke up. So much for that dream sequence! Still, it was fun while it lasted.

The death of socials
Posted 3 years agoI wonder if we're reaching a point where social media is dying, or perhaps being replaced by something else. Lots of people seem to be flocking to telegram groups, discord servers, or new places like cohost and revitalized mastodon instances. There doesn't quite seem to be the need for the same level of constant connection that social media first started to deliver, and it has been co-opted too much by capitalism and other less than desirable elements of society.
The only real issue I see with everyone bouncing off to places like telegram & discord is that it kinda sets up enclaves. Less community overlap, more private or semi-private groups off doing their own thing. That can be fine if they're purpose built for some reason like a gaming group or whatever, but for general community stuff I don't really want to be in individual telegram / discord groups for hundreds of different artists or whatever. Just use gallery sites for that. ^^() Other than that, I guess we'll see how it all goes. I know I'm in multiple different groups already for social stuff.
I've made sure my mastodon account is still active, and linked it here off my the personal website section of my bio. Either way I'm still going to be around here, and I'll see where folks all land after the bird site finishes burning to the ground. ^^()

Still here!
Posted 3 years agoTime for an update and all that. Last journal has been there since March. ^^()
I'm still around, still writing as I'm sure folks have noticed. Got some more things in the works, and I'm slowly getting 'em done when the creative mood strikes. That and when I've got free time & energy to do so, heh.
Work has been leaving me completely drained for a good long while now, and I'm not entirely sure what to do about that. I'd love to just quit and go do something else, but I have no idea what "something else" would entail at this point. It would likely be more of the same, as that's my career and all. At the moment I'm kinda keeping an eye on the political climate around here, as depending on how things go in the next few months, I might just have to move. Things are getting strange all over. Hooray for authoritarianism being on the rise globally. :/
I had surgery a few weeks ago as well. Nothing major, just a hernia repair. I hurt myself almost 2 years ago now, and I've been living with the aftermath of that ever since. Now I'm in recovery, and hoping it all stays repaired. Should help with general stress levels not being in pain all the time, or worrying about hurting myself more by doing anything like carrying something wrong. Or bending the wrong way, etc. I'm at least past the initial few weeks of recovery, and can start getting back to some kind of normal. Think I'll be having a grand adventure of getting groceries today, possibly even on foot!
That's really all that's new, at least as far as the day to day things I mention on Twitter, etc. This place continues to be a gallery for my work. ^^ Huzzah.

Another B-day
Posted 3 years agoWelp, today marks b-day number three in the covid times. Certainly a lot different than they used to be, that's for sure! I used to at least go out for dinner or something for my b-day, and maybe do something with friends. But that really hasn't been a thing for a good while now.
I'm picking up some take-out supper in a few minutes and watching a movie at home, then I'll probably do a VR meetup. VR shenanigans have definitely helped with the lack of regular social things.
So yeah, I'm 40 now. Getting to be an old dragon, I guess? Definitely a bigger one. Doesn't really feel any different, not that the last few b-day's have felt like much of anything either. Just another day, but with a lot of folks wishing me well online. ^.==.^
Time to go get some supper in me. :D

Taking a writing break
Posted 3 years agoLike the title says, I think I'm going to take a break from writing for a while. Readership has been on the decline for years, and some of my most recent stories have practically been ignored in comparison to older works. Kinda makes me feel like I'm wasting my time, you know? ^^() As I indicated in my latest submission, I've been working on Unity stuff for VR in my spare time, so I figure I'll spend more time there and less time juggling stories that nobody reads anyways. At least people seem to like the VR worlds I cobble together.
I'm sure I'll wind up writing again before I know it. The stories have to come out eventually, or the brain starts to itch. ^.==.^ So... Stay tuned, I guess?

December update
Posted 4 years agoWhat a year, huh?
I updated folks on twitter & telegram, but I should probably make a post here too. I caught covid, and have been sick for about 5 days now. Fortunately I'm fully vaccinated, so this is just feeling like a lingering cold rather than anything more severe. I also seem to be on the back half of it all, so we'll see how it goes. I'm in mandatory isolation for at least 10 days until I'm symptom free, so we'll see how I'm feeling in the new year. At the moment I'm not allowed to leave the house unless I need to go to the hospital.
I got sick about halfway through a winter break I'd arranged for myself & tested positive on Friday. I'm supposed to be back to work later this week but that's not happening now. I'll be on covid leave until the doctors say otherwise! Should be fine, I've lost count of the memos I've gotten from work saying that if you catch covid then you're on leave until symptom free.
I've been sleeping off the worst of the symptoms so far, or warding them off with cold medication. Right now I'm fine enough to not need any cold meds, though I still feel kinda blah. Will likely take a few days for everything to clear up. I'm getting groceries and other food delivered to my place in the meantime, as I can't exactly go shopping now. On that note I should likely schedule another delivery. The fresh stuff is running low!
Got another story in the works but I haven't had the brain to write anything for a few days now, as I'm sure y'all might imagine. That's all from my end for now at least. Y'all be safe out there. ^^

Writing a novel in parts
Posted 4 years agoSo this latest story is turning out quite large. Figure it will wind up being a novel and then some by the time I'm done with it. Maybe I'll try getting it published properly, who knows? It'll still be up here in parts in any case. ^^ Probably easier for people to read.
Gotta say, writing it has been good for me. Plenty of opportunity to get things off my chest, process the last few years to some degree, add a little social commentary... Yay, writing is therapy! :D
Hope y'all enjoy it too. ^^
