General | Posted 7 years agoI'm looking into starting an escrow service for art, particularly fursuits.
The main feature is progress payments. the buyer pays the full amount to the service up front; bits get disbursed as work is done.
Fursuit example: 10%/approved drawing, 20%/photos of completed head, 20%/body, 50%/delivery. Or whatever - it's customizable.
The goal is to protect both buyers and artists from flakiness, and professionalize the multimillion-dollar industry generally.
It would use an established escrow provider's services. (Amateur escrow = bad idea, pro escrow = $XX,000 to create.)
The provider's limitations: Payment by wire or cashier's check; minimum $10 fee (so not good for items < ~$200).
My goal is to keep fees under 8%, e.g. $80 on a $1,000 purchase.
QUESTIONS: (1) Would this be useful to you? (2) What concerns do you have? (3) Other comments? Thanks!

General | Posted 9 years agoA highlight of the summer in our small college town, 35 miles southwest of Cleveland. Basically, you show up at 10am, get your (free) chalk and assigned space on the sidewalk, and go wild! Great fun... although it needs more furry artists. :)

Thoughts on Anthrohio?
General | Posted 9 years agoHey, gang. I'm set to go to Anthrohio in Columbus next weekend. I'm a little worried that it'll be a bust -- the last Furlaxation was EMPTY.
I'll go for Friday and Saturday... but am rethinking Thursday. Do you think anything will be happening then? Should I cancel my Thursday night hotel reservation?

General | Posted 10 years agoI have a room to myself at the main hotel (the Hyatt Regency) for Midwest Furfest. I was going to invite some non-furry friends, but it looks like they won't be able to go. So I'm making the space available -- with some criteria.
* This will be a yiffy room, possibly with at least one (private) play party. I might also bring people back. (You're welcome to do the same.) Preference given to people who are familiar with such parties.
* A high level of neatness and cleanliness is expected.
* It's a room with a single king bed, but I'll be bringing a futon -- that's what you'll get (at a discounted rate).
* No guests in the room when you're not there; no big gatherings without mutual permission; each roommate has veto power over all guests.
* Payment expected up front.

In brief: I'll be opening my house in Oberlin, Ohio for friends on their way to Anthrocon. Crash/party space available Wednesday and Thursday, 8 & 9 July. This is convenient to those coming from the west on Interstate 80; I'm near the highway, and about three hours' drive from Pittsburgh.
This is primarily for my friends, but could open it up to others if I don't get much response.
If you're interested, RSVP per the instructions on the FetLife event. If you can't do that, send me a note with your expected arrival time, who's with you, which days you plan to stay, etc.. Three days before the event, I'll confirm the address with those I have space for, and send regrets to the rest.

* Preference given to people I know.
* Room costs split equally, paid up front. (Total = about $450, e.g. $150 each/3 people, $225 each/2 people.)
* You pay the share of any overnight guests before midnight (as will I).
* A high level of cleanliness and order expected.
* No unaccompanied guests in the room.
* Quiet time: 1-9am.
* Fursuiters, babyfurs, roleplayers etc. welcome (no wet and messy). You have to be able to interact with me "out of character" 100% of the time, though.
* This is a yiffy room. Reasonable consideration given for private time (i.e., "Hey, can my partner and I have the place to ourselves for the next half hour?")
* Play party possible -- to be negotiated.
If I don't find a good fit, I'll probably cancel the room and get space with someone else.
