Can I Haz Paycheck? Pt 2
Posted 7 years agoAfter serving in the US Military for over 20 years, I retired in late 2013. Since then, I really haven't held a job.
But now I do. Earlier this week, I obtained a Class B Commercial Drivers License. I've just started driving a school bus in my hometown. It's a bit of a challenge as far as job performance goes, but I feel I'm fully up to the task. Training to acquire my new license went quite well. I'm pretty sure my military time, often spent driving some of the biggest wheeled vehicles Uncle Sam had to offer only helped me. I've driven vehicles just as large and unwieldy as a school bus before.
The yardstick my job performance is measured by demands that I deliver my young student passengers safely and timely.
So far, so good.

Can I Haz Paycheck?
Posted 7 years agoFor far too long now, I have been unemployed. This week, I managed to acquire my Class B CDL learners permit. This morning, I received a call from the local coop bus barn that my training begins Monday morning.
I am about to have a full time job again. YAY!

Turkey Day
Posted 8 years agoIt's the fourth Thursday in November. For everyone in or from the USA,
Happy Thanksgiving. For everyone else, happy Thursday.
This song is a Thanksgiving tradition at all of the radio stations I've ever bothered listening to.

TAX DAY!!!
Posted 8 years agoIt's TAX DAY. Have you finished compiling, computing and filing your taxes? At this point, (7:45PM PDT) unless you live on the west coast or Hawaii, it's already too late to mail it in. And if you live on the east coast, you have only minutes left to transmit your filing electronically.
Happy Tax Day.
For all of my non-US followers, happy Tuesday, April 18th.Tax Day?
Posted 8 years agoSo, I woke up my computer so I could post something about Tax Day. Only to discover that the IRS had pushed the tax deadline back to the 18th.
So, I guess we have 3 more days to finish and file our taxes then.
FINISH YOUR TAXES!!!
To everybody else: Happy Easter, Happy Passover, and happy April 15th.

Losing Family or Tears on my Keyboard
Posted 11 years ago Parents are kind of important. They bring us into this world, they are the first to teach us everything. They answer our questions. They raise, help and support us. So when you learn that you're about to loose, or have already lost a parent, your world kind of comes crashing down around your head and there's nothing you can do about it. The closer you are/were to that parent, the harder that crash is. Wait... Let me back up a bit...
Back in 2009, I had just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. I visited my mother in Denver CO. She was looking just fine, I thought. She was active, she had friends, she volunteered as a nurse at the Denver Hospice. Some months after that visit, she was suddenly diagnosed with kidney failure. That's not fatal in this day and age. She's been to the local dialysis center 3x a week ever since. Last year, she visited Washington and spent the week at my sister's place. I saw her for the first time since 2009. She was looking quite thin, almost gaunt. Honestly, I was a little bit scared. Multiple times during this year, she was hospitalized for various reasons. July 14th, my sister called and informed me that Mom was in the hospital for the 3rd or 4th time since June 1st. She asked me and asked me if I was still unemployed and available to fly to Denver to take care of my sick mother. I said that I could as long as I didn't have to pay the airfare. I flew to Denver International on the 16th and visited my mother that afternoon.
Mom was well enough to go home on the 20th, so, home we went. On Aug 1st, my sister, Jen flew into Denver on business. While she was in town, we received confirmation of pancreatic cancer. All three of us got into the car to take Jen to her conference in Colorado Springs and all seemed well enough. By Sunday evening, she was again sick enough that the decision was made to take her to the ER. Off we went. On Friday the 15th, she was well enough to be discharged to an inpatient rehab facility where she would recover strength lost due to the preceding extended stay in the hospital. On Monday, she had another episode that sent me looking for one of the staff RN's. Back to the ER and another hospital stay. This afternoon, I was involved in a conference call with the palliative care team and my 2 medically trained sisters. I had difficulty holding myself together as we discussed what we knew to be the final months of my mother's fairly long and eventful life. We discussed end of life care and decisions. One of the plans involved moving her to Washington to live with my sister, Jen. The mention of stuffing all of her stuff into the back of a U-Haul resulted in me mentioning that that one job would be rather emotionally taxing for me. It was at that point that I fell apart and cried for several minutes. 6 hours later, I'm still having episodes of tears. It's hard to say if it's harder now or if it will be harder later. She's still with us for a while, but the tears are going to return in a few months when the cancer finally claims her. I'm going to need a physical shoulder to cry on at some point. :(
Excuse me. I need to find a towel to wipe the tears off my keyboard.

Weather
Posted 12 years agoGreetings, fans and followers!
I know it's been a very long time since my last journal entry, so...
Have you ever experienced a thunder storm? I would be surprised if anybody said "No".
While the part of the Pacific Northwest where I live, or the region as a whole in general is not generally known for extreme weather in general or t-storms in particular, we do get both the occasional wild storm and the occasional thunder bumper. Early this morning, about 3 am (Yeah, I know. That's 12 hours off the normal time for t-storms.) the sky around here began to blink and the air began to rumble. It finally let up sometime between 8 and 9 am.
Wait... Five hours? Yes. A t-storm that gently rained and quietly rumbled along for five hours. It came back some time between noon and 1 pm. This time it behaved a bit more like a proper t-storm. The rain got intense, the lightning bolts got near and loud. One bolt wound up knocking the power out for a few minutes.
As I type, the weather is still rumbling around in the background. At 6 pm and change. My computer made lightning bolt noises to warn me that my Weather Channel app had posted additional significant weather alerts. The rain is expected to continue for some time. The thunder... I'll accept that atmospheric electrostatic charges have equalized when there's no thunder for 12 hours.
So... Hows the weather been at your place?

Hackers?
Posted 12 years agoRumor has it there is hacker on FA, hacking people and blocking our friends to make them block us. You'll then be banned from FA.
Write the same warning in your journal to protect not only yourself but everyone! Here's another warning: If I'm being a jerk, saying stuff like "Shut up", "Get lost" or "I don't want to see you on my homepage anymore", that's not really me. That's the hacker.
Write all of this down in your journal too!
Please do this, it's for the safety of everyone!
Forward this message before someone gets hacked!

I simply copy pasted this from the journal of another artist I watch. I really don't like the idea that somebody, some random hacker might be posting rude comments using my good name. I always try to be complimentary and friendly when I post comments.

I got a 57%. Somehow, I figured I'd do better than that.

What's a Journal?
Posted 14 years agoDo I need a journal? Not really.
I'm not much of an artist, so why do I need an FA account? Simple. I like furry art. I want to know when my favorite artists have submitted art.
Having said that... I'll just add some digital scribbles I've seen on other people's signatures and sign off.
