All characters on this list will be subject to the rules that I laid out in my announcement journal.
This now leaves us with my own Zootopia characters. I could lay out their designs, backgrounds, personalities and kinks, but that would be too big for this journal, so just talk to me in DMs if you want a PDF of the full profiles.
Also keep in mind that many of these characters have not yet been introduced in my stories or designed yet.
For the sake of brevity, I’ll list them briefly here:
Stephan J. Lupito: A silver timberwolf.
Cindy Doeson: His nerdy librarian deer girlfriend.
John Doeson: Cindy’s lawyer father.
Jane Doeson: Cindy’s nurse mother.
Darren Doeson: Cindy’s priest brother.
Sven Cedricelk: Darren’s lumberjack elk boyfriend.
Olivia Lupito: Stephan’s burger cook mother.
Henry Lupito: Stephan’s deadbeat father.
Kim Lupito: Stephan’s goth gamer sister.
Fergus O’Howler: Kim’s rock/heavy metal player boyfriend.
Felicia Muskellini: Perky skunk daughter of two rich entrepreneurs.
Samantha Velarian: Jaded lifeguard vixen, and Felicia’s girlfriend.
Brody: Nerdy beaver, and Felicia’s last partner during her time as the “Cheer Tart”.
Harriet: Stuck-up, vain white hare, and Felicia’s college rival.
Reginald: Wiseass, perverted weasel, and Felicia’s longtime admirer.
Ginny Hoofer: Thick donkey farm girl.
Jean Fierre: Ginny’s Prench fennec boyfriend.
Gertrude: Goat art teacher/life drawing model.
James: Gertrude’s ram boyfriend, and cooking student.
Pepper Tigretti: Gentle tigress Kitergarden teacher.
Luna: Pepper’s lioness girlfriend, and athletic member of the Mystic Springs.
Chloe “Cocoa” Clawde: Thick cosplay designer hyena, and one of Kim’s online friends.

Chevy: Michelle’s eventual mate, and new-anchor bat.
First and foremost, if you would like to do a story, or any other type of commission with any of the non-designed characters, whether from me or anyone else, by all means do so! I don’t always have the time to do it myself, so I appreciate the offer. All I ask of you is please talk to me about the designs in DMs, and I’ll give you input with the help of the aforementioned profile PDF. Also, I’d prefer you discuss your idea(s) for the story itself in DMs, because I will get to each OC in their own story eventually, and I don’t want anyone rewriting certain events I’ve already planned out (unless you’re explicitly writing your own alternate universe).
Next, obviously, you must give credit to me for creating these peeps in the first place, and I would also suggest some kind of link to my profile, so your audience can get an idea of my stories’ usual tones and themes.
This brings me to the “cans and can’ts” of OC fanworks, which are mostly the same as the general lists, but some topics may vary depending on the specific character(s) and their design.
If you’re really tempted to write/draw any of my OCs in any of the NOOO topics, please: Keep. It. To. Yourself. No posting, no sharing.
YUS: Cosplay/media recreation (EG: Movie poster/plot parodies), adaptations of my stories into other mediums (EG: Art, comics, animation, audiobooks, etc), smut (gay, bi, lesbian and straight are all fair game), vaginal, anal, oral, breeding/pregnancy, boob/buttcheek/foot/hand/blowjobs, embarrassed-nude/underwear-female, species size differences (EG: Cat X Mouse, Fox X Squirrel, Lion X Wolf, etc), slice-of-life, feral, anthro, nipple-play (sucking, pinching, fondling), tail/ear stroking, pussy-leaking, masturbation, knotting, underwater/skinny-dipping (no drowning though), general cosplay (including, but not limited to: Maids, cheerleaders, schoolgirls, nurses, gladiators, knights, princesses, ballerinas, etc), casual/sexual nudism, panty/footwear-obsession (based with this one :P ), Marilyn-Monroe-style upskirts, testicle fondling, kissing, nibbling, tickling, peeing, and mild sniffing.
MAYBE (Depends on circumstances, extremity, and/or characters): Multiple partners/groups, epic fantasy/sci-fi, thicc, small/flat breasts, mind-control, human X furry, fart/scat, violence (essentially, nothing too graphic or gory, at least not in a sexual context), sweating, foot stuff, food play, obese/overweight characters, claw play, incest, feral genitalia, “peeping tom” scenarios, bondage, transformation, macro/micro/giant characters, crossovers with OCs that don’t belong to the client (I’d rather have explicit permission from the true owner), crossovers with other characters in general, and any obscure/non-traditional fetishes.
NOOO: Cub/underage characters (for NSFW stuff, at least, child characters for non-fetish SFW stories are alright; Oh and aging up is fine too!), vore, sneezing/nose stuff, vomiting, “ear-fucking”, erotic deathplay (including hanging, guro, drowning, etc), rape/non-con scenarios, smegma, futa/”dickgirls”, “boob-boys”, diaper/babyfur/infantilism, blood in sexual scenarios (regardless of consent), hateful portrayals of any media/characters/real-life individuals, SFW scenarios played out into fetishes.
Once again, you can ask questions in DMs over any subjects I didn’t list.
Fanworks with my characters are subject to the same non-content rules as any other commissions. (EG: No minors allowed, no sharing with minors or using my stories to prey on others, no reposting comms without permission, etc.)
Well, that’s it. Let the requests commence!

May Announcement!
Posted 2 years agoHey guys, Ivva got an announcement for you all!
So, I’ve recently graduated from college, with only a vague idea of where to go from here career-wise, and a bigger idea of where to go in my spare time. The latter, of course, is more writing! Mostly for my continuing line-up of Zootopia OC stories, but also some other ideas (mostly delicious NSFW themes) for different furry franchises.
That is where you come in, for my good friend
WastedTimeEE suggested late last year the notion of taking story commissions, being a part-time writer himself. So I figured, sure why not, and here we are. If you’re anxious to get any ideas, safe-for-work or otherwise, on the page (or file, in this case), feel free to share an outline in DMs with me, and I’ll get it started.
In terms of prices, I’m gonna start small, with this being my first time taking any kinda commissions and all that. So how’s about:
$15 for 1,000 Words or Less
$20-25 for 2,000 Words
And $30-35 for 3,000 Words or More
I’ll probably adjust the prices if this goes anywhere, and I’d also like to say that you can get a $5 discount if your idea involves either any of my Zootopia OCs, or any pre-established characters that I already like. Both categories are so big, that Imma dropping a whole new journal for them, along with guidelines on how my characters are allowed to be portrayed. (Update: Here ya go: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10555962/ )
Going back to the pricing, I will provide a link to my PayPal after we settle a price in DMs.
Now, of course, I’d like to establish some general rules for what I’m willing to write (and again, I will provide a separate list of rules for using my OCs), so here ya go:
YUS: Furry, interspecies, smut (gay, bi, lesbian and straight are all fair game), vaginal, anal, oral, breeding/pregnancy, multiple partners/groups, boob/buttcheek/foot/hand/blowjobs, embarrassed-nude/underwear-female, species size differences (EG: Cat X Mouse, Fox X Squirrel, Lion X Wolf, etc), slice-of-life, epic fantasy/sci-fi, feral, anthro, nipple-play (sucking, pinching, fondling), tail/ear stroking, pussy-leaking, masturbation, knotting, underwater/skinny-dipping (no drowning though), cosplay (including, but not limited to: Maids, cheerleaders, schoolgirls, nurses, gladiators, knights, princesses, ballerinas, etc), casual/sexual nudism, panty/footwear-obsession (based with this one :P ), Marilyn-Monroe-style upskirts, thicc, small/flat breasts, testicle fondling, kissing, nibbling, tickling, mind-control, human X furry, peeing, and mild sniffing.
MAYBE (Depends on circumstances, extremity, or characters): Fart/scat, violence (essentially, nothing too graphic or gory, at least not in a sexual context), sweating, foot stuff, food play, obese/overweight characters, claw play, feral genitalia, “peeping tom” scenarios, incest, bondage, transformation, macro/micro/giant characters, OCs that don’t belong to the client (I’d rather have explicit permission from the true owner) and any obscure/non-traditional fetishes.
NOOOO: Cub/underage characters (for NSFW stuff, at least, child characters for non-fetish SFW stories are alright; Oh and aging up is fine too!), vore, sneezing/nose stuff, vomiting, “ear-fucking”, erotic deathplay (including hanging, guro, drowning, etc), rape/non-con scenarios (unless the victim is Haru from Beastars), futa/”dickgirls”, “boob-boys”, diaper/babyfur/infantilism, blood in sexual scenarios regardless of consent, blatant hateful portrayals of any media/characters/real-life individual (again, unless the victim is Haru from Beastars), SFW scenarios played out into fetishes.
Anything I didn’t list you can ask me about in DMs.
I’d also recommend a few rules not related to the content itself:
First and foremost, this should go without saying, but you better be 18 or older to commission an NSFW story. I don’t want anyone to get in trouble over this.
Next, even if you are 18+, don’t you dare share my NSFW stuff with any minors, or use it as inspiration to creep on others. I’d be beyond uncomfortable if I learned that my hobby led to a case of rape or grooming.
I also don’t want you posting my stories anywhere, unless I don’t have my own account on the site in question (in that case, I’d ask you to give credit where it’s due).
This next one is common courtesy, but I’d ask any clients to please be patient with the progress on their commission. I have a lot of things to do IRL, and I don’t want any additional stress piled up on me.
Finally, I’d prefer if you didn’t come to me about any kind of commission if you’re in any kind of financial struggle. I don’t wanna be taking advantage of anyone in debt or poverty.
Also keep in mind, for the first of you to share your ideas, I may take a little while before settling the invoice; again, with this being my first time taking commissions.
Guess that’s all! Your requests may now commence!

Refining Bellwether: WastedTimeEE's "Rehab"
Posted 6 years agoThe best things come in small packages...
Furries are funny sometimes.
WastedTimeEE, or just WastedTime on a few select sites, is an amateur artist (though you'd never take him for "amateur" if you looked at his work) on DeviantArt, Furaffinity, Patreon and SoFurry, who draws mainly Zootopia-themed portraits, SFW or not, along with assorted pin-ups of other fictional furry waifs. He is also the writer of "The Rehabilitation of Dawn Bellwether", it's semi-sequel "A Lamb Among Wolves", and more Zoot fics to come. "Rehabilitation" focuses on Bellwether reflecting on the whole night howler crisis as she's released from prison. As you may have guessed, 95% of Zootopia doesn't exactly welcome her with open arms, putting her in a bit of a depression. That changes, however, when she meets, and befriends an exceptionally forgiving wolf named Vernon Hunter, both for better and worse. While she comes to grow feelings for him, and vice versa, she's once again brought down by her dark past, especially when her former henchmen break out, and track her down to help finish what she started.
When I first discovered this guy's pic of Nick's mom, the last thing I expected from him was a big-time tearjerker, let alone a solid "Draco in Leather Pants"-ish fanfiction, but with an intriguing sincere focus on writing just as much as drawing, glowing comments, and even a spot in TVTropes' fanfic Hall of Fame, I decided to give it a read.
It melted my heart.
Now, I like "Zootopia". While I initially wasn't that interested, since I was just starting to appreciate hand-drawn animation at the time, I eventually let the reviews get the better of me, and took a look, and, yes, I really liked it. Hell, I started watching it at least once a month since then, to the point where I can practically quote it word for word. (Well, maybe not that far, but you know...) Even looking back after discovering WT's story, I still like it for the most part. It still has great humor, great heart, a noice creative world, deep undertones, etc. But there was always one itty-bitty, teeny-tiny aspect of the film that rubbed me the wrong way, and if you read the title of this journal, I think you know what that is.
Imagine your own favorite character from your own favorite piece of media being reduced to nothing but a tool, and that's the Bellwether twist in a nutshell. But I just kinda buried it in my sub-conscience, and looked at everything else "Zootopia" had to offer. However, reading this had me going "what was I missing?"
Well, what was I missing? Let's find out!
One thing that stood out from my first reading was the romance between Bellwether and her new co-worker, Vernon Hunter. When she first meets him, she's initially worried that he'd scorn her for her scandal, like everyone else in the city has, and it doesn't help that he's a wolf of all species. But he simply walks her through her orientation, without snapping, and even offers her his phone for entertainment after they finish. Dawn slowly warms up to him throughout all this, and decides to share the phone instead. This is where the fun begins.
I'll just say it: Dawn Bellwether and Vernon Hunter are effing adorable. I knew what I was getting into when I saw all the fanart of them on the author's gallery, and it did not disappoint. It's absolutely heartwarming to see Dawn grow out of her hatred for preds, and Vernon's just such a threateningly-lovable bodyguard. At the same time, he's not just a bland self-insert, or a Gary-Stu. As it turns out, he used to be a long-lost childhood friend of her's, who was shortly separated because of her disapproving, species-ist father, who I'll get to later. This leads to an unflinching gutwrench of a flashback, where his mother directly explains to him why they won't be able to meet again, and he completely breaks down in his closet. I honestly can't decide whether or not this is more of a tragic effect of prejudice than Nick's backstory in the movie. They both add a great deal of sympathy for the characters, and they're satisfying responses to those bygone "wolves and foxes are evil" stereotypes. I will say this, though: It's one thing to experience discrimination directly, but to have your own mother simply tell you "that's just how some people are" like it's supposed to be a widely-accepted part of life, even if they don't like it any more than you do, is just salt on the wound. Vernon then decides to just roll with his stereotype of being a violent brute, punishing any biased predators in school for years, until snapping out of his vengeance one day in early high school, and making amends with everyone he hurt. Giving him his own troubled past is honestly a brilliant way to explain why he's willing to forgive Bellwether at all.
There's another heart-aching chapter where Bellwether snaps at Vernon for trying to "save" her from the ZPD against her will, and he breaks down once again, admitting his feelings for her. Moments like these show that, while Bellwether's still the main focus, there's still a great, clever sense of sympathy for the type of predators she'd likely wanted to have especially hurt.
Oh, and Nick and Judy have their own subplot of coming to terms with their own romantic feelings for each other. OK, I'm not gonna lie, this is the one bit of "Rehab" that I'm kind of on the fence with. Nick has an arc about being overprotective of Judy after a near-death experience, even carrying a can of fox-repellent for any future emergencies, aaaannnnd that's where I think the fandom feuds would start. I'll give WastedTimeEE props for trying, and actually kind of succeeding in some areas, to shape Nick into a more selfless person. The moment where he talks with Finnick about his feelings for Judy, asking what to do and all that jazz put him in a more vulnerable light, as opposed to his usual lovably snarky personality, not unlike the scene in the movie where he admits his experience with species-ism. Even the moment immediately after it, where he snuggles up with her in her sleep as she dreams of him, is just a sweet detail. I'm not even generally that much of a WildeHopps shipper, but giving Nick this kind of treatment is somewhat admirable in itself. But at the same time, does Nick really feel the need to carry fox-repellent of all things? Isn't that kind of a reminder of Judy's former bias against him? (Though I guess you could argue that Nick was more bothered with Judy's overall hypocrisy than the repellent.) But, whatever, it's really just mentioned in two out of twenty-eight chapters, I still appreciate the author's intentions to develop Nick, and hey, if "Citizen Kane" had a giant plot-hole, I guess anything goes. I love the chapter where Judy confronts Bellwether at her drive-through, but I'll save that for later.
You know what I also love about this fanfic? The action and overall stakes are a big step up from the movie. There's a fast-paced motorcycle chase, surviving night-howler blasts at a fast food joint, a nearly-successful villainous plot that's far, far, far more effed up than Dawn's original plan that I won't dare give away... I know this sounds like a more minor, insignificant compliment, but it's just such an experience to see characters you know and love be put in a more chilling life/death scenario. I think the closest we got in the movie was the train explosion and the "savage Nick" scene. But even then, Nick and Judy were sorta ahead of the curve, and that's not nearly as fun. Even the idea of stopping Dawn from continuing to spread pred-judice, while still a crucial goal, is kinda underwhelming since her plan was already in motion. It's not like there was a next step that needed to be prevented in 2 minutes or something. Here, when Bellwether and Vernon manage to outwit her former henchrams at one point, meet with Nick and Judy, and seem to be doing alright... Boom! Doug totals their van, and the preds are kept at the mercy of his night howler, which, by the way, has been modified to kill mammals after turning them savage. What will they do? Why is Doug back? Who is his new boss? What are they planning? How will Nick, Judy, Vern and Dawn get out of this? How? How? HOW? Don't look at me. Read it for yourself. It's admittedly not as ballsy as the movie in terms of relativity to our isms today, but I think it's for the best since they already did their job in that regard. Plus, I'm not really one for the "miserable grimdark shockcollar alternate Zootopia" that many other darker and edgier fanfics go for. There's kind of a reason why Disney themselves rejected that notion. It just makes their world look like a complete shithole. "Rehab" on the other hand ups the drama without going that route, and I think that's more impressive.
Speaking of drama, let's finally get to Dawn Bellwether herself...
I think a story with Bellwether being redeemed would be kind of a tough thing to discuss. While her ultimate intention in the film is real serious, it's kind of hard for me to take her seriously as the villain when we only see her "baaaaad" side for two minutes, and it's just really jarring to see my favorite side-character in the film be reduced to this. I dunno, I remember seeing a pin-up of evil-Dawn months before seeing the film for myself, and I just assumed they were completely different characters from her pre-twist screen-time. It's not like she's just a generic nice guy at first like Hans from "Frozen", she's a fast-talking, bubbly, adorkable sidekick with a distinct look and voice. If they just got some random prey crime lord to be the villain, or even if pre-twist Dawn had little to no character, I wouldn't mind so much. But as is, I just never cared for Dawn as a villain. She has little to no screen-time to let her evilness sink in, and she has all the personality sucked out in exchange for cringe-worthy villain-exposition pretending to be bad-ass. Then "Rahab" comes along, and I'm just gonna say it: I like her as the protagonist here much more than Judy in the film.
Lemme explain. Judy's fine, she's a good protagonist and all, but she just kinda feels like another Disney-princess role model-gal. Even her speech at the end about no-one being perfect and having the power to better yourself and all just plays out like something you'd hear on an inspirational celebrity commercial. Bellwether, before the whole twist, is more of an every-person, which makes her realization of the true weight of her actions here heartbreaking. By the way, that's another thing. Dawn's baaad actions have weight. She nearly tore the city apart. She made predators look bad. Even the savage Nick bit, which again, is kinda dampened by the fact that they were duping her the whole time, is still a pretty big weight on her shoulders. Judy's innocently insensitive words at the press conference, and her hypocritical exchange with Nick afterwards that she feels similar remorse for is just getting caught stealing from a cookie jar by comparison. The story eases it off though by saying that Doug concocted the formula for the night-howler, and lured Dawn, blinded by her beef with Lionheart, into leading him and the other ram thugs in return for power and justice for prey or something. Dawn never really considered the point of murder until the museum confrontation, while Doug had planned a wide savage bloodbath at a Gazelle concert which Dawn ultimately vetoed. All of this gave Dawn an admittedly-short sentence of ten to five years in prison with parole option, while the henchman were hit with thirty no-parole years. Truth be told, Dawn's role in the whole scheme is more vague than I remember in the film, so I'll buy that. I mean it's not like they're villainizing Judy or even Lionheart. She also has an abusive specist father from a line of aristocratic ancestors who founded Zootopia, who's known to constantly push Dawn to live up to their standards as far back as childhood, even though he looked down on her at the same time for being a girl instead of a boy. This included splitting her from Vernon in the first place and sending her to an all-prey school, as well as trying to set her up with Doug. Dawn, fed up with her father's attitude, joins Lionheart's campaign to prove herself worthy and the rest is history.
Reading all this in Dawn's interview with her parole therapist, all I was thinking was "Damn...." Given how little we got of her motivation or backstory in the movie, this was a breath of fresh air. It's especially tragic cause we do get a flashback later of her and Vern as kids sharing friendship bracelets the day before they were separated, which was just the sweetest, most beautifully ironic moment in anything Zootopia-related I've ever witnessed. But then her pop comes along to rip it apart. The way Dawn is pushed into politics, lured into a corrupt scam, and, again, exposed to such a casual view of bias sheds the brightest light of sympathy on her. At the same time, though, the whole point of the story is for her to accept her role in the night howler scheme. It even goes back to that post-credits scene in the film where she's grumpily sitting before the TV playing "Try Everything", and says that she was still going through periods of anger from being in prison, regardless of how justified she knew it was. I'd feel that way too if I were in prison. Once she's released, no-one's willing to let her near them, let alone befriend her or forgive her. She's frequently haunted in her dreams by an ugly deformed version of herself cornering her in the same pit where she had Judy and Nick cornered, trying to encourage her to "embrace her savage side". This all emphasizes just how much she brought it on herself, but at the same time, we see that she's legitimately changed for the better, and is trying to fit back in. It's also telling that all of Dawn's non-forgivers just sort of come and go once she befriends Vernon. While there are a few moments where they're intimidated by Vernon into letting her shop for groceries, use the bank, etc. It's not like there's a big mob scene where Vern comes in and lectures them out of it or something. Even Lionheart, who was shown to be a bit of a jerk to her in the movie, is barely featured, or even mentioned in this story. So nothing comes off as one-sided or biased.
Nothing in this story pulls it off better, though, than Dawn's conversation with Judy at the drive-through. Like I said, I see Judy as more of a role-model than an everyday racist, but here, when she chews Dawn out for going to the dark side while she had already managed to overcome her pred-judice, it makes total sense. Dawn in this story is portrayed as having a genuine soft spot for Judy and her goal of making Zootopia a better place for the little guys, up until Judy turned down her offer during the Howler crisis. So having a "reason-you-suck" speech directly delivered by Hopps herself, who even flat out says she doesn't believe Dawn when she says she's changed, hits this balanced perspective out of the park. It also makes Dawn question just how much she deserves Vernon's devotion, let alone forgiveness, and the nightmares of her savage self spark back. This forces her to decide whether to stay with him and live out the life she wished she had, or to leave him to keep his public image safe. This is such a bold plot beat for a Draco-in-Leather-Pants-like fanfic to take, the idea of deciding whether or not to move on from a dark past and start a fresh new life, or to accept the impact of the past and stay that way for the rest of your life. When Dawn is later suspected for the night howler attacks on the fast food place she works at, and volunteers to go with the cops, even though she had nothing to do with it, it's both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. We see how much she's matured from her days in prison, yet we still feel bad that she's giving up the chance for a better life with Vernon.
*Heads-up, I'm getting into some vague spoilers here, so If you care about spoilers, go past the bold letters*
But the ultimate peak of her arc happens much later, when she's held captive with Vernon, Nick, and Judy by Doug and the rams. Not only does she fake a face-heel turn to get Doug to free her, risking the possibility of breaking both her old and new friends' trust, but she foils their plan by exposing herself to the night howler, putting her own life on the line in the process. She's dipped into her own dark past to save everyone. That is undeniably the bravest, most unselfish act that any portrayal of Dawn Bellwether has ever performed. Later, when an unconscious Dawn is sent to the hospital, she sees her monstrous caricature once more, who congratulates her for her selfless deed before vanishing. She gains the strength and will to climb out of the pit and into the bright room of the hospital, where she awakens to find an overjoyed Vernon, and a regained respect from Nick, Judy, and the city of Zootopia. Now she can finally start life anew...
Oh, and there's a bit of a sex scene between her and Vernon in the next chapter. I don't have a lot to say about it, since it's only the second chapter out of twenty-eight. It turned the naughty side of me on quite a bit, but the sensible side wished it was more genuinely emotional. Oh, well. The very next chapter closes it out on a solid emotional note with Dawn joining Vern, Judy, etc. To dinner, so I'll let it slide.
It's honestly hilarious how, as a kid, I always hated how wolves and foxes as a species were portrayed in folklore as bloodthirsty sociopaths, and now Zootopia comes along turning the tables, and now I feel the same for the sheep. I could complain all I want about how that one twist reveal near the end of the film actively shat on my favorite side character, or how it's made any possible subplot in any future "canon" follow-ups shedding even the least bit of love on her either impossible or questionable... But I don't want to. I just wanted to talk about this fanfic, and how it gave her proper justice. I don't care what Howard or Moore say about her, or however she's treated in Z2, "Rehabilitation of Dawn Bellwether", and everything that WastedTimeEE follows it up with, is, and always will be, my Zootopia head-canon. I get it if anyone looks at it and decides they wouldn't like it because of Dawn's rep in the film. And, again, I do still enjoy the original film in it's own right. I love how Disney's sort of embraced their furry image and created an imaginative, yet believable world with a surprisingly mature message to boot. (I'll also say tt's also a bit funnier than "Rehab"...) But if it weren't for those novelties, it would just be mostly standard Disney fare. Still decent, but not the furry mega-hit it is right now. "Rehab", however, is a thoroughly unique experience, that I believe deserves more attention. I mean, WastedTimeEE's pics about Dawn and her new wolf boyfriend have a decent number of faves on DeviantArt and Furaffinity, and it's the go-to alternate version of Bellwether. But, you know, curious newcomers are welcome. Give it a read. Even one chapter, just to see if it's your cup of tea. If you've already followed this guy, read it again. It won't change the way you see racial attitudes in the real world or anything, and I don't even know if I can call it "The Godfather of Zoot fanfics" or anything, but I genuinely enjoy it more than the original film. It's an emotional, philosophical, thrilling, and overall joyful experience.
And I haven't even gotten to "Lamb Among Wolves" yet....
A Look At Dawn Bellwether
Posted 6 years agoDANGER: SPOILERS AHEAD! TURN AWAY IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN "ZOOTOPIA" YET!
So... Assistant Mayor Dawn Bellwether. I think we all know about "Zootopia" and the impact it's had, so I'm just gonna cut to the chase. There seems to be three camps when talking about this character in particular. On one side, there're those who draw chibi art playing up her adorableness, going "Night howler? What night howler?". On the opposite, there's the artworks that fill her in the role of various pop-culture villains, like Palpatine, or Hannibal Lector, or that guy from "Se7en", try to give her a trying-to-look-intimidating-but-is-just-so-darn-cute face, or place her in some prison/dominatrix/"bad-girl" pin-up, while sometimes vamping her up Jessica-Rabbit style. In the middle, there are those media critics who either say she "works" for the moral on racism, what with being a somewhat-Trump stand-in (or at least, according to Moore and Howard) who uses fear to their political advantage, or find her just the latest in a slew of lame twist villains pumped out by Disney.
I'm not gonna lie, I used to be in the very last boat when I first saw "Zootopia". I mean, for the majority of the film, we knew her as a dorky, marginalized, bubbly companion to Judy. That's cute and all, but you expect me to go "aw hell yeah, that lil' sheep is the next Frollo"? No, really. There are people who compare her to effing Frollo. Look it up. Now I get they're both racist, but... Let's just look at the Judge's resume, shall we?
Frollo
Murdered an innocent woman.
Attempted to drown said woman's infant immediately after.
Hunts gypsies for no apparent reason other than for the evulz.
Leaves his own adopted son to be humiliated by the whole town.
Craves one gypsy in particular who's roughly three decades younger than him, and even sniffs her hair at one point.
Burns down the house of an innocent family.
Blackmails aforementioned gypsy at her stake for god-knows-what.
Arson against a church.
Ultimately tries to smite the same gypsy.
And to top it all off, he excuses every last one of these with "God made me do it."
Or, let's look at some of Disney's other twist villains.
King Candy/Turbo
Got two whole games unplugged, all for not being the big boy anymore.
Demoted Vanellope to glitch for the sake of taking over Sugar Rush.
Tried to violently sabotage Vanellope's victory, once again, for his own ego.
Lotso' Huggin Bear
Manipulated Big Baby.
Kept possibly hundreds of toys in an age-inappropriate torture-center for a classroom at Daycare for God-knows-how-long, with the dumpster as their only salvation.
And even left Woody and the gang to die in the incinerator after faking a redemption.
Ernesto De La Cruz
Poisoned his own friend for his gain, and kept it under the sheets for years, even after death.
Ultimately tried to kill an effing little boy after the jig went up.
Charles Muntz
Set arson to Carl's house.
Tried to dip a little boy off his blimp.
And, my favorite, Commander Rourke, from "Atlantis".
Punched an old man, fatally wounding him, and pulled an effing pistol before him.
Stole an entire civilization's only life source, knowing full well that'd let them die, all 'cause "We've got to have... Money!"
And ultimately tried to off Milo himself during the climax.
All we get from Bellwether is turning predators nuts, and getting someone else to finish Judy off.
Hell, even Prince Hans at the very least tried to kill Elsa himself, he didn't just get someone else to do it, while just sitting back enjoying the show. And as little as Mr. Waternoose did himself, or as well-intentioned his motives might have been, he tired to kidnap, and possibly kill effing children.
You're probably gonna be going "She's the closest Disney's ever gotten to a dictator!" Oh, sure. She's a real scummy dictator. Like that one scene where she... Talks about fear working. "She's a real wolf in sheep's clothing!" Like Disney's never done that before... (And no, making it a literal sheep or political metaphor doesn't change anything.) "She never cared for Judy! She was just using her!" I dunno, what about the bit where she offers her the position as the ZPD's mascot? (And I'm not talking about her whole "we're-not-so-different" talk after her reveal.) I mean, her plan for prey domination was already going into effect, Lionheart's now in prison, she doesn't seem to need Judy anymore, and she even seems genuinely saddened when she resigns. This isn't like other twist villains, where their nice sides generally extend to just faux-congratulating the heroes, this is a genuine pet-the-dog moment.
And yeah, she does technically try to have Judy killed, but I always just saw it as "Oh, she knows too much so she gonna die", rather than "I'm so gonna enjoy seeing someone get ripped to shreds..." Wouldn't it be scarier if she tried to kill Judy herself, and then turn Nick savage? And they turn out to be faking the ordeal anyway, and her next option is to just frame Judy, which was derailed by her own recorded speech, so it's even less of a scare factor. (BTW, given that the crisis apparently went on for three months, wouldn't have Zootopia's doctors or scientists figured out the source of the savage transformations sooner, and traced it back to Bellwether before Judy could?) I mean granted this is a kids movie we're talking, so of course they're not gonna go all "Mortal Kombat" in the climax, and I get the need to put more focus on the protagonists, and the plot is a mystery after all, but the point still stands. I feel like her hate-ability comes more from how much we've come to love Zootopia and how much it would suck to see it ripped apart, and the "savage Nick" scene is only tense because of the bond he grew with Judy. There are millions of other villains who have at least one fat body count even without the protagonist's presence, while Bellwether's is, as far as we know, nonexistent. (And to those who wanna say "well those savage attacks could have easily killed someone", one, if we don't see anyone actually die in the movie, and not just get injured, or even get any mention of any full-on deaths, then, by definition, it didn't really happen. Show, don't tell. And two, once again, that's from the night howler, not Bellwether herself.) I dunno, I'm very picky when it comes to letting one villain's hate-ability or charisma sink in.
But with all that said, I just shrugged and went "Oh well, the villain sucks, but the movie's still good. Don't let her ruin it." And I just passed her off as nothing but a hokey Bond villain.
That is, until I met this guy: www.deviantart.com/wastedtimee…
While I was drawn to him for the way he draws vixens, it was his Bellwether art that sealed the deal. I loved how he drew her more film-accurate, and I admittedly squeeed inside at her being paired with a wolf of all species. I didn't care how much it made sense, it was all adorable, and I'd been meaning to read the soft AU fanfic series that inspired said pictures, but work and school kept getting in the way.
Finally, just around the peak of 2019, I decided to read "The Rehabilitation Of Dawn Bellwether", and, by God, what a way to kick it off.
I was instantly drawn to the more sympathetic portrayal of Dawn, while still acknowledging her more iffy actions, the way it played off the events of the original film, the romance she forms with the aforementioned wolf OC, who actually felt like a real person, and not just a Gary-Stu, it's faithful portrayal of Nick and Judy, the raised stakes in the conflict, and I even got a bit teary-eyed at quite a few moments. Then I read the semi-sequel "A Lamb Among Wolves", which doubled-down on the likable OCs and especially the feels.
I plan to go into more detail about these fics in particular, and what makes them enjoyable in their own right in the future, but for now, let's compare it's portrayal of Bellwether.
This series reminded me why I ever liked this character in the first place. While Nick was cool, Judy was a very compelling protagonist, and Finnick was basically Zootopia's Boba Fett, I thought Bellwether was the cutest. Even after hearing some vague spoilers about a sheep being the villain, seeing the film for the first time, I looked at her and thought "Nah, can't be..." I loved her bubbly, dorky demeanor, even seeing a bit of myself in her, and I felt bad that her boss treated her like crap, calling her "Smellwether" and giving her a boiler room for an office. "Rehab" pretty much follows that side of her, though at the same time, it still reminds us that, hey, she did some pretty bad stuff. Her transition to "the dark side" is played organically. She was pushed around in her childhood and adulthood by not just predators but everyone bigger than her, much like Judy. Except that also includes her own father, which, as cliched as it may be, just... Ouch. Working with Lionheart was only the final straw before going through with the Night Howler plot, which this time, her henchram, Doug, was responsible for. (BTW, thank you WT! He was the consistently cold speciesist sociopath in the movie, and he was the one doing most of the villain's work!) She legit wanted a friendship with Judy, but her insecurity at her resignation from the ZPD sent her into a revenge-seeking downward spiral, which, combined with her newfound sense of power, ultimately lead to the "savage Nick" bit, only to come back to her senses after getting apprehended. After getting paroled after 4 or 5 years, she instantly tries to start over, only to get kicked out of every store, and to log in to Furbook to find a slew of death threats and hateful slurs. She eventually does get a job at a local fast-food joint, where she meets fellow employee and wolf Vernon Hunter. While initially skeptical to working with him, she warms up as he gives her a genuine benefit of the doubt, helping her to rekindle her bank account and so on, and their friendship blossoms into something more as the story progresses. However, while grateful for Vernon's generosity, she struggles with deciding whether to stay with him, or if her reputation is too much for his image, and the plot just escalates from there.
Even taking Bellwether out of the equation, it's a great story of redemption, forgiveness, and overcoming bias. While Judy goes through a somewhat-similar internal prejudice battle in the movie, Bellwether's obviously carries a lot more weight, and, for me, at least, as bad as her actions were, they weren't really enough to overshadow her change. There's even an especially powerful scene where Dawn is confronted at her new job by none other than Judy and Nick. She lets her chew her out for betraying her and Zootopia as a whole, trying to have her killed and all, then comes out with a mature, legitimate apology, then Judy says: "I don't believe you." Just... Wow. I mean, I think we all have a moment where we've screwed up, realized it too late, and try everything in our power to make it up to those we've offended, even if this case in particular is more extreme. But sometimes, there'll be those who just won't accept it. This is further hammered when Bellwether's suspected of a more intense repeat of townwide night-howler rampage, and, despite having nothing to with them in particular, turns herself in, showing that, no matter how much we try to move on, we shouldn't brush our own mistakes aside.
Where was Dawn in the movie again? Oh, yeah, "we'll be unstoppable, Judy".
I know this all sounds like one of those "Draco In Leather Pants" things, but I don't care. I never once thought that her behavior in the first two thirds were "just a lie", or "part of her plan", like everyone likes to say, and her big reveal was jarring to say the least. Also, I don't care if her trouble with Lionheart may seem petty to you, as someone who's seen reports of male celebrities mistreating female co-workers/fans, this is iffier to watch than I remember (and no, the fact that a certain someone just happened to be one of the film's executive producers doesn't exactly help). You'd think they'd do something more with that then just "oh, she's some power-hungry bitch".
Now, maybe this was never Disney's intention. Maybe they did just mean for her to be some wicked witch in sheep's clothing that we're supposed to root against, no matter what we see of her. Well, let's just say that, as noble as the whole "villain was the one you least suspect" trope is (or was) in making kids smarter, more cautious, etcetera, at the same time, you should still be extra careful when writing such a character. Depending on how much you show or don't show, you never know how much your audience themselves could fall for their ruse, and that twist in the last ten minutes of your one-hundred-and-eight-minute film can come off as troublesome. Throughout my time in the furry fandom, I've met quite a handful of "Zootopia" fans who legitimately care about Bellwether, and want her to pull a sincere reformation. To be honest, I feel like the idea of any super-nice guy hiding a dirty secret just feeds into our worst paranoia, which seems especially weird for a film saying "we can't let fear divide us". I guess with Bellwether in particular, they should have just stuck with either keeping her all evil or keeping her a cute sidekick.
I dunno, if she was bad from the start (or at least revealed earlier on than the last ten minutes), her actions went far beyond just using night howler, they just cut out her interactions with Lionheart entirely (again, give Hans some credit, at least they didn't show him getting pushed around by his family or something), and there was more time dedicated to her being a douchey leader to all her peers, and not just predators, there'd be no fan-redemption arc, I wouldn't have latched onto her, and this whole thing would just be begging for more screentime from someone like Gazelle, Finnick, or Gideon or something. But, here we are.
With rumors of a possible sequel or two in development, I should be excited. But after reading "Rehab", and really thinking about what Bellwether could have been, compared to how she ended up in the film, I, and some vocal Zoot fans, are just concerned about what that could mean for the future. I mean, for all the likeliness that they'd just create a new, more threatening foe for Nick and Judy to face, the possibility that Bellwether would be brought back and have even more of her mammality stripped away for the sake of making her more evil seems like the easy way out. Now, if they decided to just not bring her back at all, that'd be fine. I'd rather have her past unanswered then given something like "she had millions of mammals exterminated worldwide before moving on to Zootopia". At the very least, we have fanfiction to give her a shot. And, don't get me wrong, the original "Zootopia" is still a pretty great film. It's well-animated, it's funny, it's adventurous, it's deep, it's cute, it's a furries's dream come true, and I'd kill to see more of that in whatever follow-up we get. But, at the same time, I don't see why they have to lump Bellwether in the same pile as the far-more-heinous members of Disney's rouges gallery. Keep in mind, I still don't endorse any of her actions (I love wolves and foxes, and I'm sick to death of them being portrayed as nothing but blood-hungry killers), and I'm not one of those guys who thinks every single villain can and should redeemed, regardless of their actions. I mean, just like real life, some guys just don't change. I mean, while some of the other twist villains I mentioned have at least one of Bellwether's downsides, either their own malicious deeds outweigh her's, or they're revealed earlier on to tip us off to their genuine lack of redeem-ability. And there's no way around the Jafars, or the Frollos, or the Ursulas. They're deliciously scummy maniacs to the core. But I don't want Bellwether to be one of those people. I want her to change for the better. If Judy, Nick, Gideon and so forth can change, why can't she? Isn't the idea of Zootopia that "anyone can be anything"? Hell, "My Little Pony" and "Steven Universe" redeem literal commie and Nazi metaphors, and even Disney themselves have given Maleficent of all characters the Draco-In-Leather-Pants treatment. Why should Bellwether be any different?

Christmas Binge #6: A Charlie Brown Christmas
Posted 7 years agoThis is definitely one of the more slow-paced, atmospheric Christmas specials out there, but it still gets across a powerful message with such a small budget.
And that's it for this one. I think Doug Walker's talked about it in much greater detail than I ever could.

Christmas Binge #5: Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
Posted 7 years ago"Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" is one of those stories that deserve a reboot.
With all the racist, homophobic, and gender violence in our history, this has a lot of potential for a great film, especially with Christmas as a backdrop.
But, as is, the Rankin/Bass special is... Well, just fine.
It has that sort of cheesy-but-upbeat charm with the dated stop-motion, songs that are fine on they're own, but sometimes distract from the plot, and some hammy voice acting.
While I was sort of off-put by Santa's not-so-jolly attitude, it's still a classic sell-out, in the best way.

Christmas Binge #4: White Christmas
Posted 7 years ago"White Christmas" is what I think "Holiday Inn" should have been.
Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect. The dialogue can be hokey at times, the segue between the second and third acts is pretty cliched, and some bits are dated. But it still has it's own classic Holiday charm, some memorable characters, and some catchy songs. A solid recommendation for fans of Christmas and Bing Crosby.

Christmas Binge #3: Miracle On 34th Street
Posted 7 years agoOnce again, a solid recommendation for the holidays.
What really pulls this together is Edmund Gwenn as Mr. Kringle himself. He's just so charming and, for lack of a better term, jolly. He's the definitive Santa Claus.
Nothing else much to say but, you'll never look at a mall Santa the same way again.

Christmas Binge #2: It's A Wonderful Life
Posted 7 years agoSorry I couldn't get to this last night... Got dragged into something against my will...
Anyway, "It's A Wonderful Life"! This is one Holiday film that's been praised and parodied countless times, and is sure to be praised and parodied countless more times, and there's a good reason why. George Bailey's a likable, relatable protagonist, and the timeless message really shines through, and even got me on the verge of happy tears by the end.
What else can I say? Check it out, if you haven't already.

Christmas Binge #1: Holiday Inn
Posted 7 years agoNot much to say 'bout this one. Some of the songs were catchy (though one was... Questionable, to say the least...), and Fred Astaire's performance was likable, but I can't think of anything else particularly memorable, whether for better or worse.

Just Watched "Zootopia" for, like, the fiftieth time...
Posted 8 years ago...And for those of you longing for a drinking-game-turned-hangover, here's a few suggestions:
Take a swag every time
1. The words "predator" and/or "prey" are said.
2. You see or hear something species-ist.
3. The word "Zootopia" is uttered.
4. Anyone discusses or mentions a topic no kid would understand. (Felony tax evasion, declared commerce, etc.)
Have fun, and stay away from cars, and pretty much everyone 'til you recover!

Just Something for A Friend...
Posted 8 years agoDragonBoy618 asked me to do an intro to his "Warner Knights" series.
Well, here you go! (I know it's not a theme song, but I hope you're still satisfied.)
(We see a school bus approaching Acme Looniversity, before opening it's doors, allowing the passengers out.)
Announcer: 8 months ago, a local "Tiny Toon Adventures" fan came across the entire cast, as well as some DC-copyrighted characters. They promptly teamed up to fight crime wherever it took place.
(Cut to a view of Acme Acres, which slowly turns into a plain red background.)
Announcer: If you have a problem, if the police or firefighters or whoever else is too lazy to help, and if they're not spending time emphasizing emotion/building character/connecting plot points, maybe you can look to: The Warner Knights.
WARNER KNIGHTS
(Cut to various clips of the gang firing lasers at robots/monsters/foreign terrorists, complete with 80s action-adventure music in the background. Cut to clips of a human male, with various disguises, ranging from Bugs Bunny to a certain controversial president, before the following text appears below him:)
STARRING TYRONE LESSON AS HIMSELF
(Then cut to various clips of a pink female roadrunner outrunning aforementioned enemies/ flirting with Tyrone.)
KIA RUNNER AS HERSELF
(Cut to various clips of a blue male rabbit and a female pink rabbit, defending themselves with mallets, anvils, and cream-pie bazookas.)
BUSTER AND BABS BUNNY AS THEMSELVES (NOT RELATED, MIND YOU.)
(Cut to various clips of Batman and Superman beating the crap out of aforementioned enemies, and/or making badass poses.)
AND ALSO STARRING BATMAN AND SUPERMAN. (PLEASE NO MENTION OF "BATMAN VS SUPERMAN"...)
(Cut to various other clips of action, as the music draws to a close.)
CREATED BY DRAGONBOY618, WITH THE APPROVAL OF TOONOPHILE.

My ideas for a Tiny Toons film revival...
Posted 8 years agoWell, I felt like I just had to do this after recently discovering a certain TTA fans intention to make a story where all but two of the characters die...
Anyway, here are the things I would do if I were to make a film adaptation of "Tiny Toon Adventures".
1. As a Fifi fanboy, I'll just get this out of the way: I'd have a subplot involving her developing a relationship with a female OC. Yeah, I've never really rooted for her being with Furball, Calamity, or even Hampton. For one thing, neither Furball nor Calamity actually fell for her, and for another thing, she was only seen with Hampton together in one. F***ing. Episode. By pairing her with a female, however, I plan to have her romance go beyond just seeing a black-and-white male, and immediately going Ga-Ga for him. It'll go like this: Fifi notices that one new kid is a male skunk, she gets teamed up with the female OC, who happens to be a lesbian/bisexual, the female OC tries to befriend Fifi, but she claims that she will only like boys, however, as they continue to hang out together, Fifi starts to like the OC, and ultimately decides to be girlfriends with her.
2. In terms of casting, I plan to have a mix between voice actors and celebrities. Some names I'm considering are Tara Strong, Cathy Cavadini, Grey Delilse, Kevin Michael Richardson, Rob Paulson, and some returns of a few of the original voice actors, like Tress Macneille. In terms of celebrities, I'm considering Michael Cera, Seth Green, Elle Fanning, Jason Lee, and even Seth MacFarlane, just to name a few.
3. I plan to do favors for some TTA fans by introducing their own characters into the franchise as new students of Acme Looniversity.
4. In a similar manner of the casting, I feel like combining their satirical humor with the blockbuster movies of today. Perhaps a spoof of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
5. The plot I was considering for a TTA film adaptation would go like this: There would be one group of the characters, consisting of, say, Buster Bunny, the professors of Acme Looniversity and some other characters who believe they should stick with their familiar gags and scenarios in order to keep the show funny. Then, the other group, consisting of characters like Furball and Calamity who usually have very few episodes dedicated to them, feel like they're being treated too harsh. This eventually results in a bitter rivalry between the two groups, as they each turn to extremes to get their point across to each other. (BTW, this is where they will start spoofing Marvel, what with the "Civil War" inspired plot.) Busters group resorts to having nearly every skit and episode have at least one of the characters from Furballs group end up in some kind of misery, and Furballs group coming up with new scripts involving every other character except for themselves end up in misery. In the middle of this war would be the band of new students I mentioned earlier. They would start off idolizing the characters and wanting to be like them and all that, but as the rivalry intensifies, they start to turn away from them, providing some of the mist dramatic moments in the story. This would all lead up to the type of question we get on cliffhanger endings: Would these two groups learn to compromise and respect their views? Will they realize that the real threat is predicting their downfall? (I won't give away too much, but, that threat is Montana Max.)
So, there you have it. My choices for a Tiny Toons film adaptation. Oh, and I would have the animation be the same style as "The Peanuts Movie", where its CGI, but somehow looks like stop-motion. Feel free to share your opinions with me in the comments below! Remember, no ranting or trolling or anything of that nature.
