Charging by the hour - would appreciate your input!
General | Posted 13 years agoI've been mulling over this for a while now - especially after the great success that was my first venture into per hour charging with samuelfreak661. I want to switch all my pricing schemes to be per hour. It would all be a flat rate, and the final price is determined by the amount of time spent on it. So obviously you'd have your quicker things like sketches end up being something like $10 for 30 minutes of work, or a full digital piece being $50 for say 2 and a half hours of work. I have a system worked out that tracks the exact time I spend on it (utilizing Livestream and a Google docs spreadsheet) so it ensures that I don't get underpaid, and you don't pay too much.
I also feel like more artists should go the paid-per-hour route. It would make the market more robust, weed out the ones who should have no business doing commissions, and at the same time the customer gets value for money.
What do you guys think? I open the floor to you. c:

Holiday hiatus
General | Posted 13 years agoHappy Christmas Eve everyone! I'll be away for the next week or so spending time with my family, and then driving up to be with my boyfriend's family. Commissions will be on hold until I get back, and back to business as usual on New Year's Eve.
We're probably going to watch Les Miserables and Wreck It Ralph on Boxing Day, and possibly The Hobbit too. I'm so excited! (Yeah, Australia doesn't get Wreck It Ralph and The Hobbit until 26th December. First world problems)
Anyway, keep safe, drive carefully, and have a great holiday!

Midfur wrap up
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, now that it's finally over and I can stop stressing about it, in retrospect I really enjoyed my time there!
I did a panel with
darknatasha and 
brohimian that went over great, and the three days after that was non-stop arting from 10am to 6pm. It was great to flex the traditional muscle again after so long, and it's made me want to improve in that area as well.
Unfortunately my prints did not sell very well, but that's a lesson for my next con. However, now that I have a 10m tube of plastic wrap, I can actually offer badges that can be shipped to you! Yay for variety.
I was sad to hear that this year would be the last Midfur, as next year they want to move it to January and call it something else. At least I got to be a part of the last one!
It was also great to meet some furs in person, I met
darkentiger, 
kenshinmidnight, 
re1nhardt, 
jedfox, 
pyrocloud and bunch of others I can't remember at the moment.

Probably at home recuperating and preparing for the next day hahaha. Unless someone wants me to hang out! But be warned I am a boring person.

Anyone local from the fandom! I know far too little local furs.

Not all the stuff on the site is mine, of course, but I'm happy to say that the initial sketch in the logo was done by me, as well as the background painting in the banner. ^^

It's gonna be pretty intense for me this semester, what with the requirement to fulfil 25 hours of work a week until December - and that's not even taking my other two subjects into account! I had a chat with my supervisor though and he thinks we can probably work out a deal so that I can keep contributing to the project in my other subjects.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post stuff from or even talk about it, as it's a pretty big commercial project, but I'm pretty psyched about it. Have gotten quite a bit of work done for it already (on day 3..!) and my supervisor seems quite impressed, so I'm gonna try to keep it up for the next three or four months. (oh god)
As such I'm probably gonna be a lot scarcer online. Commissions will still be open, but I'm probably not gonna push for them as hard. I've considered closing everything and only leaving sketches open, but we'll see how the rest of my workload goes in future. At this point I'm pretty positive I can keep up with both as long as I don't play any games or do any frivolous internet surfing, haha.
Anyway, wish me luck! My ultimate goal is to be one of the "high achievers" this semester so my supervisors can recommend me to prospective employers. :)
