A real pickledicament, continued
General | Posted a month agoHello! Last time I left a journal, I was without my belongings.
I have since obtained my belongings with minimal damage. The movers screwed up a computer monitor and a dresser, but most of the rest arrived intact.
However, I'm still currently without a job after two months of unemployment, and I'm pretty much flat broke.
So! I would like to put out a reminder that I am open for commissions, and I have also reopened my Ko-fi if you can only spare a couple bucks. Even just spreading the word is appreciated!

General | Posted 3 months agoHey! Hows it going everyone? Good, I hope!
I myself have recently moved to Delaware to live with Pawn, Dragonsushi and Nux. However, it hasnt been a pain-free process.
I dont want to get into the nitty and/or gritty and cover every detail of why things didnt go smoothly, but there's one problem I'm currently facing that is impacting my art: the movers haven't delivered my stuff yet. I was given an ETA of three days, then seven to twelve business days, then twelve to thirty-one business days...so it's kinda fucked. I've been sleeping on Sus and Nux's couch for two and a half weeks and have only one change of spare clothes.
There's a lot more to this situation that isnt really super pertinent. I'm trying to get everything sorted out and get my stuff as fast as I can. The reason this affects my art is because the only computer I have is a craptop that doesn't connect to art tablets for some reason, and I'm wretched with mouse art.
With all that said, until I get my belongings, art is going to be kinda up in the air. I didnt anticipate waiting this long, so I didnt have a cover for Into the Frozen Forest #2 prepared. :/ Much like the Olden Dayse with GBA 1 and 2, you'll be getting comic pages before the cover, lol.
Anyway, tomorrw I'll be on the phone with the moving company. Wish me luck.

Money in the Bank review!
General | Posted 6 months agoSome quick notes that arent' related to matches:
1// the product placement is officially too fucking much. I got used to it on the ring, it doesn't stand out on the turnbuckles, but now that the props are branded it completely breaks immersion.
2// this review is going up before the main event. why? because john cena can't wrestle, jey uso is not an interesting watch, and logan paul is my designated piss break match. its obscene this TV tag match is main eventing over the money in the bank matches but hey whatever
3// Shoutout to the dude with the "Push Karrion Kross" sign. I agree.
4// Why is it that the womens matches have been the ones where fans go into business for themselves with the "We want Truth" chants? Guys, please.
matches!
Womens' Money in the Bank match -
Solid match, felt very short though, like it only went on for ten minutes. It felt like it at least entered third gear, but the length hurt it. Rhea brought some much-needed star power to boost the significance of Guilia, Roxanne and Stephanie, helping to build their stock. Guilia was like six inches away from a ladder literally falling on her head, fortunately it looks like it just clipped her hip. Cole seems to be teasing a failed cash-in. Naomi won though, and she was the right choice; she's doing banger work ever since her heel turn.
Dominik Mysterio vs Octagon Jr. -
Dom got hella babyface reactions. WWE really needs to commit to it while he's white hot. Octagon brought Great Lucha Things. Liv interfering brings the ending down, though. Solid match but not much to write home about.
Becky Lynch vs Lyra Valkyria -
Match of the night. The two beat the shit out of each other, taking all sorts of gnarly bumps and selling just how much winning meant to them. Breaking the count out at 9.99 was tense as hell. Even though Becky won and Lyra had to humiliate herself by raising Becky's hand, Lyra still came across strong in defeat.
(Lyra needs to change the kind of tops she wears. This is like the third time this year the strap at the back of her neck has popped off, almost resulting in a catastrophic wardrobe malfunction.)
Men's Money in the Bank match -
It was a pretty stacked build with four potential winners (sorry, Solo and Andrade).
I'm going to keep it one hunnit: I am now 100% done with El Grande Americano. Commentary spent so much of the first third of the match arguing about whether or not he's Chad Gable to the point where they were distracting each other. I honestly considered muting the match so I could enjoy the action. Fortunately we cleared a hurdle and commentary moved on, although Pat McAfee continues to lend nothing to the match.
Solo Sikoa gets a lot of flak, but he's been doing amazing character work. He makes for a great cocky, sorta comedic heel.
Team Double B (Braunson Reed and Bron Breakker) coming out to cause havoc in the match wasn't unwelcome, as tired as I am of interference in WWE; this was something that has been building up, so it makes sense. Jacob Fatu and JC Mateo running out to cause interference was big hype time because I want to see Jacob and Bron slap the shit out of each other in a big beefy boy meat match. And Jacob finally turning on Solo was really dang cathartic.
Seth Rollins winning is the most logical choice. I've spent the past few weeks using all of my willpower to manifest an LA Knight win (he got the biggest pop of all of the wrestlers in the match), but this is the third year running where he's been the hottest thing in the company without getting a main event push. I hate to say it, but I think the LA Knight ship has sailed. Knight is my boy.
(I've just noticed how much more I had to say about the men's ladder match, which got a lot more time than the women's.)
Overall, 4/5ths of a good card, 1/5th piss break. Becky and Lyra take match of the night for the second PLE running. (I know I said in by Backlash review that the US Title Fatal Four Way was my match of the night but I've since reevaluated my opinion.)
edit: looks like R-Truth came back at the end of the tag match so that's pretty cool. though I suspect we're not going to get R-Truth, we're going to get Ron "The Truth" Killings.

Backlash review!
General | Posted 6 months agoMight as well do this again, here's a quick review of WWE Backlash. Spoilers if you havent watched it.
LA Knight vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Damien Priest vs. Jacob Fatu was an absolute banger. Match of the night for me. Just four big dudes getting in there and slapping man meat. it was really well balanced with all four men given time to shine while furthering the McIntyre/Priest feud. While I knew Jeff Cobb coming into the fed was an inevitability, I'm surprised that he's been grouped with Solo. With G.O.D. both out, I guess they had to put him somewhere. Not sure what LA Knight does from here though, since Jacob and Solo seem to have been pushed in a crash course.
Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria was a lot of fun, two Irish lasses whupping the shit out of each other. I honestly expected Becky to win the IC belt from Lyra though, but this help put credibility to Lyra's name. I can't help but think that the match ended prematurely even though it was in third gear. I wonder if Lyra actually did get a broken nose and an audible was called.
Penta vs. Dominik Mysterio was full of good lucha things, but I'm real tired of the Judgement Day, lol. I had kind of hoped that Dom getting the IC belt at Wrestlemania would have finally pushed him or Finn out of the group. (I had also hoped that JD McDunnagh would also have split from the group after coming back from that brutal injury given how much he was being put over after it happened, but...)
Pat MacAfee vs. Gunther was surprisingly entertaining??? Pat did a lot of really cool shit for a non-wrestler, and Cole getting involved in the match was pretty dope. Shoutout to Wade Barrett for holding down the commentator's desk by himself. The cool thing about the match is that, while Gunther never felt like he was in trouble of losing, Pat was still able to get some credible offense in. I was actually blown away by Pat doing a moonsault.
Randy Orton vs. John Cena was...like...well, it sure was a match. WWE keeps putting over the fact that they've wrestled over twenty times while neglecting to say they've only had one actually good match. This was certainly not the dirt worst of their matches, but the most I'll give it is that it was competent. Time to move John onto his next feud.
Overall Backlash was a pretty good but safe B show PLE. The Fatal Four Way for the US title is worth watching, but otherwise it's a skippable affair.

anyway yeah Wrestlemania 41 sure happened, didn't it? Middling builds leading to middling matches. I went into this year knowing that what we got for Mania 40 was lightning in a bottle and likely could not be matched, but this still kind of blew.
Spoilers for the show:
Jey v Gunther was okay, the ending diminished Gunther and brings an end to a very disappointing title run. Let's hope Gunther takes some time away and comes back refreshed and ready to be the Ring General who held the IC title for 666 days. Not that I want him to go back to holding the IC belt, but the perfect template for a world title run was set up by his IC title run and it was totally biffed.
The New Day v The War Raiders should have been a TV match and didn't do much to help the New Day even in victory. I figured if they put this on Mania it would be more significant, maybe even involve Big E in some way. The TLC match for the Smackdown tag belts should have featured instead.
Jade v Naomi was really fun!!! Heel Naomi has been killing it and I hope to see more from her. It was cool seeing speed vs size, and the two managed to tell a story with the inverted dynamic really well.
Jacob Fatu v LA Knight was great. I'm kind of bummed that Knight lost the US championship since it makes him feel like a transitional champion, but Jacob can definitely benefit from it.
Chad Gable El Grande Americano v Rey Fenix was a banger (what a surprise, given the talent from these two) but using Fenix instead of Dragon Lee is kind of a misstep. Dragon Lee is already tied up with the Grande Americano story and could afford to eat the loss.
Tiffany v Charlotte's build has been rubbing me the wrong way from the off and that impacted my enjoyment of the match. I'm glad Tiffany kept the belt, now let's put this feud to rest and have them both move onto different programs.
Seth v Roman v Punk in their Custody of Paul Heyman match was a neat little dance, very well-told triple threat. Heyman betraying both Punk and Roman makes sense given how both abandoned him at different times. I think he and Seth will make a good act.
Iyo v Rhea v Bianca was probably my favorite match of the weekend. The work rate was top notch with all three women's styles complimenting each other. Given the story WWE was telling, Iyo was far and away the right winner. I'm surprised Bianca's WrestleMania win streak ended, but not displeased.
Damien v Drew was pretty good. I appreciate that Drew was able to turn a "nothing match" into a feud worth following, but it's time to put him back up in the upper ecshelon. Damien is defs a top babyface, but he's not really on a main event level anymore.
Bron v Penta v Dom v Finn was my second favorite match on the card. Tons of action, Penta is amazing, and Dom pinning Finn for the belt is absolutely the right call. Let's hope that this will finally serve as the catalyst to break Finn out of the Judgement Day because shit damn the Judgement Day is lame.
AJ v Logan Paul was my piss break match. As talented as they both are, I don't want to watch Logan Paul wrestle.
Lyra and ???? v Liv and Raquel was...I mean, it sure did happen. The return pop Becky Lynch got was huge, but it sucks that it came at Bayley's expense. Hopefully Becky wearing the women's tag strap will help relegitimize them as they've become dangerously close to being an afterthought again.
Orton v ???? was nice but it made Joe Hendry look kind of weak. It doesn't matter that he's from TNA, he's the TNA world champion! I would have loved to have the match go on for another five minutes with Joe getting some more offense in.
Cody v Cena was a joke, lol. While Cena winning was the right choice, I'm not sure what I should have expected from a man nearing 50 who infamously spent his entire career not being able to wrestle. It made Cody look like a dipshit. The fans cheering Cena and booing Cody really hurt the match too (the American fans did not understand the assignment, unlike the European ones). I had to think if this was a matter of my expectations exceeding what was promoted, but ultimately the match was just disappointing.

General | Posted a year agoWell I am! Here's some cool info about it as a matter of fact!
I just got sideswiped with a bunch of hefty car and medical bills, so I'm putting myself back out there. You can send me a note here or reach out to me on Discord at vincent_the_wordsmith.
As an added bonus, if you commission one of my three specialties (voodoo doll manipulation, shadowplay or mobile app manipulation) we can negotiate a lower price. You'll also get a golden coupon that grandfathers you into the current prices in the event I raise them again.
