***** IMPORTANT FOLKS! NEW ACCOUNT! *****
Posted 15 years agoHah, I posted the exact same journal title just over a year ago!
Anyway, out with the old, in with the new. I said I'd move accounts for all 2010 activities, so I'm damn well going to.
It's not just to inconvenience people or anything, it's also a way to reinvent myself and my fursona. The latter of which has already happened, it's just not been actively publicised yet! Stay tuned, not here though, keep your eye peepers on:

During an hours swim in a public swimming pool, you are likely to ingest more than 80 millilitres of urine.
There's some food for thought. 'Til next week, I was Alex Grey, and that was the Watcher Welcome™!

Fun fact: Four is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself.

Fun fact: Humans have four primary blood types: A, B, AB and O. These can be positive and negative, with O+ being the most prevalent, with 38% of the population having the O+ blood type.

Fun fact: There are considered to be "four estates" which are involved when it comes to making law. The three branches of government: the executive, the legislature and the judiciary; and the press.

Fun fact: Except for flies, every insect capable of flight has four wings.

Anyone need a (free!) website?
Posted 16 years agoI'm currently designing my professional design portfolio (a preview here), and it comes to my attention that it's a little bare -- primarily because I've left out all my random pet projects and only kept the things that I consider are of a professional standard.
So basically, because I need this thing to be shiny as buggery for my university application, I'm offering to do a few basic websites for you peeps. No cost, but preferably no more than a few pages, and nothing overly complicated (like e-commerce, or some fantastical hand-coded hours of labour of awesome).
Hit me up on a PM for FREE website action. I'll be wanting some detail (colour schemes, general layout, what it needs to be able to do, etc.) but we can get to that.
Design and programming of this level would normally cost hundreds of dollars, I'm giving it for free. Take advantage!
(Note: I will only take a limited number of clients - maybe two or three; and there's no set deadline. I am working on two other projects simultaneously, so it probably won't be done in a single week, but I'll do it as and when I can.)
NO MORE, I HAVE A BUNCH NOW!

Spatial mathematics and their relevance to fatbats
Posted 16 years agoWell, today, while messing about like the bored people of the younger generation do. I decided in a completely random act of geometry, to see what my character should probably weigh.
The average fruit bat of the Macroglossus sobrinus variety would be a tiny 4 centimetres long and weigh approximately 20 grams.
Scale this up to four feet (or 121.92 centimetres), the height of Mr Grey - and taking into account the maintenance of width and depth as well as height in the growth process and you get 566336.93184 grams.
To put that in a scale you're more used to, that's 1248.56 pounds or 89.18 stone... the weight of eight average human adults, for Mr Grey to be THIN. Alexander Grey currently has a standard weight of 350 pounds, he's practically anorexic.
Expect the base weight to be revised to something akin to a metric ton (or something) in the future.

Posted 16 years agoMy brain think's I'm dying
Interesting idea. My brain is a pretty confused chunk of meat, anyway.
Accidentally lucid dreaming
I'm not too sure about this, seeing as I very rarely have any memorable dreams at all (one or two every year is pretty common for me). I'm also perhaps a little unsure because, aside from the feeling of paralysis, nothing else is different.
In the (actually rather common) occurrence of me falling asleep in front of the laptop, I can be in this paralysed state and still see the laptop screen exactly how I left it. I don't know how lucid dreams work (having never had one), but it doesn't strike me as being too likely.
Sleep apnea
I wouldn't be surprised, I have a pretty terrible respiratory system and have issues breathing pretty regularly, and suffer quite a bit of the fatigue that is a symptom of the disorder. It doesn't really explain why I can't move, though.
I'm not unconscious when entering REM sleep
Apparently I'm meant to be unconscious when my brain paralyses my body (probably to stop me jumping off a cliff in the night). Unfortunately, I'm not.
I become concious during REM sleep (sleep paralysis)
This one has a bit of potential, as it affects people with narcolepsy - which I do seem to suffer a mild case of (I can fall dead asleep within 30 seconds of being wide awake, seriously; and I can sleep pretty much anywhere, in any position, with any amount of noise). Sleep paralysis also regularly involves hallucinations, although I've never had these.
This is said to only happen in the middle of REM sleep though, whereas my paralysis tends to come just as I'm falling asleep or have been asleep for a short time (mere minutes, in fact). This could, however, be overruled by aforementioned narcoleptic tendencies.
I think the most likely candidate is sleep paralysis, thankfully it's fairly normal, although it's not common to suffer from it regularly.
Thanks folks :D

Do any of you folks get this? (Medical question)
Posted 16 years agoAt night, just as I'm lying in bed and trying to get to sleep, I seem to get this strange occurrence where my mind is fully concious however I cannot move my body whatsoever. This generally lasts for what feels like (I can't see a clock or anything) a minute or two, then my body suddenly jolts to life again.
This happens every once or twice a fortnight, during which time I can get rather distressed, especially in conditions where I may have trouble breathing. I'm also very sure that it's not a dream or anything like that, seeing as I'm definitively awake before and after the occurrence.
I don't know whether this is due to fatigue from tiredness and something commonplace, or something potentially more serious.
Thankyes~
