I see the birds once a week but always forget my camera.

There's no spoon.

A bird with a broken beak that had a scab fall off so there's a tiny spot of blood was gore and against the AUP.

I'm hopefully no gunna have too shitty of a car soon. I had full coverage so for the 2005 Civic Hybrid I got in 2007 for 9,000 i got 3,500 for. :C
I can't even buy another 2005 Civic Hybrid for that. Tho I got the bank of dad who slowly lets me pay off loans so if I find a car slightly above that and it's safe for me and the kiddo he'll loan it to me.

I went to the zoo today...
I took like 250 photos so I'll be posting the ones I really liked but there's still quite a few.

I've been debating recently since i do have a good camera that after I am forced to euthanize a bird to maybe take good photos of the animal (wings, face, legs, inside the mouth close ups of the toes and so on) for artistic anatomy references.

Would anyone else be as interested in using photos of the animal for reference?
I know a lot of people online get butthurt at dead animal photos so I'm unsure where i'd be able to host them as I'm sure on FA it would either be a rule breaker or I'd get too many "OH MY GOD YOU'RE A MURDERER" comments.

I could make a tumblr just for it so only people interested int he subject matter could follow it.

This Barn Owl hates us, he's in rehab still in ICU at the center, his broken wing healed nicely but he needs some feather growth before he'll be flight ready.
He'll be moving outside soon and once the feathers grow in and he can fly he'll be released back into the wild.

So I got to the center at 9. I figured it would give me time to get ICU taken care of before I have the first of 3 programs at 10. All 3 programs are for groups of second graders. There is me and 1 volunteer in today.
So I'm getting ICU worked on, feeding the nestling that came in last night and cleaning cages, treating injured birds (one is on antibiotics and another needs wounds cleaned). The rest just need to be put into clean cages.

I finish up about 9:40 with ICU and as I'm cleaning up and getting ready to grab the kennels and table for the program birds someone rings the bell. ANOTHER NESTLING OWL IN HER ARMS.
So I grab the baby give her info to call and check up on him and go back in ICU. He's healthy but hungry so I ask a volunteer to grab the kennels and set up for my program while I gut and cut up a few mice and begin stuffin kiddo with food.

First program 10-10:45. Second program 11-11:45... 12-12:30 lunch.
Then I go and get the birds for the 3rd program ready and stuff the 2 nestlings with a small rat after gutting and chopping it up. 1-1:45 consists of the 3rd program. After the program I clean up kennels and put birds away. 2pm hits and I'm feeding the rest of the birds in ICU, most can self feed but we have a Great Horned Owl with 2 broken legs who needs to be hand fed as well as 2 more almost fledged babies who need a few rats cut up for them.
The owl fledgling with broken legs by the way has splints on them and is literally floating in a bin with packing peanuts while they heal.

ICU is taken care of and it's time to prep food for all the rehab and resident birds. Again most get whole food but there are also 3 more fledgling owls in the rehab area with the foster mom who need their food cut up still (the 2 almost fledged owls in ICU will probably go outside tomorrow).

Feeding and everything is finally done about 3:30 and I chop up one more small rat and stuff the nestling owls one more time before I close everything down and put things away (the center has public hours from 11-4).

At almost 4:30 it's time to go home.
I'm beat, usually I have time for an hour lunch and a few breaks to stop and do paperwork and rest my feet.
Not today, the only time I sat down was my 30minute lunch.

Btw, if you lost count we have 8 baby owls, 3 fledglings outside, 2 fledglings going outside tomorrow one fledgling with 2 broken legs and 2 nestlings.

ICU right now besides great horned owls also has, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Swainson's Hawk, 1 American Kestrel, 1 Prairie Falcon, 1 Saw-whet Owl, and an adult Great Horned Owl.
Outdoor rehab besides the owl fledges with the foster mom has 3 Red-tailed hawks, 1 ferruginous Hawk, 1 Raven, 1 crow, 4 Mississippi Kites and there are 2 more adult great horned owls outside as well.
We also have 21 resident/education birds. (3 Golden Eagles, 2 Bald Eagles, 2 American Kestrels, 2 Screech Owls, 2 Great Horned owls, 1 Barred Owl, 2 Swainson's Hawks, 1 red-tailed Hawk, 1 Raven, 2 Turkey Vultures 1 Peregrine Falcon, 2 Mississippi Kites) and oh also the barn cat who doesn't catch mice and a room of breeder rats and a room of breeder mice that all have to be given fresh water and fed during the day as well (we clean on rotations so only mice had t be cleaned today).

*breathes, drinks more water* did I mention it was over 90 degrees today on that bluff the center is on and programs are held outside?
I'm a little dehydrated and sunburnt.

I miss being paid to do this stuff lol.
It was a good day and I will probably sleep pretty damn well tonight after a few beers lol.

I got to take my tortoise outside for the first time this season, he's fully up from hibernation and he enjoyed his stroll.
Finally the "spring showers" around here are expected to actually only be rain and not snow. Thankfully that means things might bloom now. :X

I want to get a good photoshoot with him somewhere nice, near a pond or somewhere with lots of flowers.
I need to write up a copy-pasta blurb for him tho because his shell isn't in the best condition, due to his neglect and improper care by his previous owner he isn't the prettiest specimen.
He is happy and healthy now tho, just looks a bit rough around the edges.

Well so yes, I did witness a Great Horned Owl toe amputation.
The bird came in after it met with a barbed wire fence, it's wing was torn up and a toe almost ripped off.
The toe was stitched and the wing was wrapped up. After a few days the toe showed signs that it was dying of, knowing we could not save the toe we decided to have it amputated.

So I took the owl to our volunteer vet and play nurse while he put the bird under and amputated the toe.

If the bird's wing heals and he gains the ability to fly back he will be released back into the wild.
Missing one toe will not ruin his ability to hunt.

I'm starting college in August at the community college again with intent to transfer to the university. I will be ending up with a Bachelors in Biology with an Ecology and Environmental Science emphasis. :)

I WENT TO FURRY FIESTA! I had a freaking blast, I want a fursuit now.
I fixed my camera and got pics at the con. I'll go through them soon and see if any are worth posting here.
Expect pics here soonish tho now that it's working properly I can go out on photo shoots in nature again and at the Raptor Center.
They laid me off but I still go once a week and work cause I wanna keep my rehab license and I love the birds.

So yea, life has been hectic but I'm out of the depressed hole for the most part.

So I lose my job in about a month. Decided... I'm going back to school. I'd love a Biology degree, Bachelors in preferably Animal Biology/Ornithology. I started the application, I'll finish it when my transcripts arrive and I get paid so I can pay the application fee. Here's hoping they let me in o.o They should I only had one crappy semester around when I had my surgery to remove cancer so if they ask about it and I tell them why I dropped 1 class and failed another they'll understand I'm sure. FFFFFFFFFFFF University. I'm scared.

Hoping to start in the Fall of 2013. O.O

Over the past 5 years a lot has changed, my little sister found a great man got married.
My daughter hasn't stopped growing. Cancer seems to be lying dormant and it's nice.

This past year has been the hardest. Depression hit, I wasn't supported but treated badly for my depression. Dumped and thrown out and replaced with something 10 years younger than me.
Suicidal, broken and wishing for death. Not even 2 weeks ago I thought about relapsing and taking that sweet horrible drug into my veins so I can't feel the pain anymore. I wanted it to end.
I almost went back to heroin... It was hard for me not too but I pushed passed it.

I've been in a new fresh relationship for a few days... what we have isn't what I had with my husband but what we have is what I need right now and it works well.

Life is hard, I would have regretted using when I hit that low. I know I would have. I was so close to this 10 year mark. IT FEELS GREAT to have hit it.

10 years clean....
Who'd have thought I'd make it this far.

So I finally pass out last night and i dream that a few days before I leave for my vacation my car breaks down and i end up not being able to go... then because my dreams can't just leave it at that, the man I thought loved me and his 18 year old replacement for me went instead and partied with all my friends...
I sat in my room alone on my birthday.

Thanks dreams... my one sleep in day where I don't have to get up before the sun and you wake me up after 3 hours of sleep and it's still dark out. I laid in the dark for a few hours but eventually gave up on sleep.

Wonderful anxiety how I hate you.

I know my photos are lacking.
My camera still needs repair, I can only afford to do one thing for my bday in February and I decided I'd rather go to furry fiesta than pay to fix my camera.
Tax return can go towards my camera tho.

So I'm still single, life is still meh.

Going to a furmeet Saturday after work, guess if I plan to drive to Texas for a con in February I better get myself use to furries IRL again.

I've never been to a furry con and considering I'm not going to be spending about $600-700 (parents are asking $350 a month rent if I stay with them awhile) a month living with people who no longer love me I can save up to go to one.
This one runs my birthday weekend in February, would be a nice present to myself I think.

I don't wanna go to a lame con, any friends plan on going to this one in 2013?
Is it a fun con?
