New account and 'sona! Pivot!
Posted 8 years agoHey hey!
After about 15-16 years with Torque, I'm finally changing things up and moving over to
Pivot
There's a journal on there explaining the reasons. No drama or anything, just wanting a change! :)
I'm still keeping Torque as a character for commissions n' stuff in future, so I'll keep this account active for those.
Thanks muchly all, take care! <3

Re-uploading some pics!
Posted 11 years agoFinally got my scanner set up and working, so I'm scanning in some of the pieces which I'd just taken photos of before.
Some I no longer have (given to friends) so they'll have to stay as they are. :)

Sad news, good news, new art, and a new 'Sona!
Posted 11 years agoHey guys,
I'll start with the bad news. It's been quite a while since I posted about my mum's cancer and I never really made any updates outside of twitter/facebook.
Unfortunately my mum lost her fight with cancer on March 16th and passed away peacefully in her sleep, with both her sister and her best friend by her side right to the end. She had no pain or discomfort at all, so I'm glad of that, at least.
It's been a hard few months, and I'm missing her every day, but things have settled down now that we've had time to adjust. I've also had an amazing amount of support from friends/family throughout, which I'm always grateful for. <3
On to the nicer news!
Me and dad are going to be moving back to Sheffield in a couple weeks, where I'll be faaar closer to friends and family. We're only one city over at the moment (in Doncaster) but I know like, no one here besides collegues, even after 3 years here, so it'll be nice going back to where I belong. ^^
The house is a lil smaller than our current one, but I'll have a bigger bedroom at least, which is a nice bonus. ;D It's also got faaar more reliable transport than here, and is generally better located for most stuff I want, so huzzah. :)
New arts!
I've fiiiinally gotten back into drawing again, for the first time in well over a year. XD Really enjoying it this time around though, so I wanna keep at it for a change. :)
I used to SUCK at drawing heads, so they've been my main focus lately, just doing a few gifts for friends and even some badges. Gonna start posting some after this journal, starting form the earliest (Little over a month ago) to the latest. I'm also workin on getting anatomy right in the meantime, but that's haaard. XD
And finally!
I've had Torque for like, 12+ years now, and I love him to bits, but after all the commissions n' stuff I have of him lookin' like a total, rather buff badass, I don't really feel like he suits me anymore.
Still keeping him of course, I looooove all the art I have of him, and I wanna get more, but yeah, he's not quite 'me' anymore. Just a random character I have to get cool art of. X3
Sooo yeah, I now have Pivot! A rooguy, for a bit of a change. Still not got anything totally confirmed with his design yet, though I know some purple will be involved, at least. <3 I've doodled up a couple of headshots so far, and Maglot's had a go at colouring one of them for me, so I'll post them shortly. ;)
Aaanyway, that's about it for now really!
Hope you're all well, take care!

Pure venting (My mum has cancer)
Posted 11 years agoNo matter how many stories you hear or how bad you imagine it to be, nothing can prepare you for the news that someone close to you has a terminal illness.
A little over 6 months ago my mum was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, which has already spread to her liver and lymph nodes. She was originally given just 6 weeks to live, though thanks to chemotherapy and radiotherapy she's still going strong now 6 months on.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am -incredibly- close to my parents, especially my mum, and I'm currently living with them since I finished university. Since finding out about her cancer I can't even describe just how horrible and crushing it can be, for all of us.
I had always, -always- dreaded anything like this happening, to anyone I knew. It's been one of my biggest fears since I was young, but I never expected it to actually happen. Even if my parents had gotten ill, I never wanted to hear any kind of life expectancy, because even then I knew that I wouldn't be able to help just counting down the days, like some horrible, unforgiving deadline.
The reality is far, far worse. I can't stop thinking about it, what it would be like to lose her, what life would be like without her, what she might miss out on, and all the things she's always wanted to do which she's already no longer fit enough for (skydiving, riding a motorbike, loads of dreams she's had for years).
It is always, -always- on my mind, and it's only made worse by my job, which provides me with 9 hours of solitary, mindless work which leaves me waaaay too much time to dwell on it further. My colleagues keep asking how she's doing, so I keep putting on a brave face and telling them all's well and she's improving, but all I really want to do is just curl up and cry right there in the store any time I talk about it.
On a more positive note, she is still doing well so far. Chemotherapy worked really well and reduced it significantly, and she's had radiotherapy to prevent it spreading to her brain. However the side effects of the radiotherapy are pretty nasty, and are really kicking in now. She's permanently exhausted, to the point where she can barely get off the sofa without help a lot of the time, and although she can still walk, her balance is off so she still needs support to get about.
She keeps coming up with all these things she'd like to do before it's too late, but in her current condition just going to the supermarket totally wears her out.
We're also pretty broke. We have enough to live on relatively comfortably, but there's nothing spare to do anything nice for her. She had to leave her job as her health declined, and my dad has had to retire early to care for her. I only just earn enough n my job to cover my bills and expenses, with only a little left to fit in some kind of social life, but if I can grab more overtime I really want to start saving up for some nice experiences for her whenever I can. A balloon ride, and even a flying lesson are actually pretty affordable, but they'll have to wait until the radiotherapy side effects wear off, I think.
She deserves so, so much for everything she's done for me. I just wish we had the means to provide her with it all. She's supported me with anything and everything I've done, from university, to my irish dancing.
I've been dancing for 18 years now, and she has -never- missed watching me in competitions (From bounding around with beginners, right up to competing amongst the best in the world at the world championships) or displays, and she's always been there to cheer me on until this year, when she had a temporary dip in health and had to miss a couple of displays for the first time.
We're all keeping as positive as we can, me, my dad and my brothers are looking after her as best as we can and keeping each other's spirits up. I also have plenty of amazing friends who have been awesomely supportive throughout. I can't express just how much you all mean to me, and how much you've helped. Things are still hard, but without you guys they would have been far, far harder.
My other problem is that she really wants me to go out and get a better job, she wants to see me make a success of myself whilst she's here to appreciate it. However in my field it's very unlikely I'll be able to find anything close to home and I will almost certainly have to move quite a distance to find anything (even considering looking abroad if I need to).
Of course, I want this for myself as well, but because I don't know how long she might have left, I'm terrified of leaving in case I can't be there for her when she needs me. My job at the moment sucks, and I can't wait to get our of it, but at the same time I want to spend as much time with my parents and my mum as I can.
Earlier this year, I couldn't wait to get out (As much as I love them, I can't deny living with them is driving me insaaaane) and I still look forward to getting my own place and a better job, but mum's condition has left any plans I had in purgatory. I have no idea what I want to do now.
It's not helped by the fact she's also telling me that she'll really miss me whenever I do move out, and that she does if I'm just out the house for a couple of days.
We're still hoping she's got a good few years ahead yet. Before she had radiotherapy she was actually doing amazingly well, to the point where ya could barely even tell she was sick.
At the moment she's very frail, but doctors have confirmed that's just a side effect of the radiotherapy, so we'll hopefully see her improving again before too much longer. It's just so hard to see her so down and lifeless every day at the moment. She deserves far, far better.
I'm sorry this isn't the happiest journal I've written. Things just hit me really hard today, for seemingly no reason. I've been putting on a brave face for way too long, and just a couple of hours ago something just cracked. I think I cried as much today as I did when she she was first diagnosed.
I really needed to get things off my chest and this is the first place I thought to do it, so this has just been one long stream of conciousness. All of this, and more, is running through my head every single day. I just thought it was about time I put some of it into words.
I'll likely write up a more positive journal later to push this one off my friend page. There have been some some far nicer things going on this year as well, but for now I really need to get some sleep as I'm back at work tonight unfortunately.
I hope you guys are well, take care. <3

Question time! 83
Posted 14 years ago"Few ppl are man/woman enough to openly answer any and all questions thrown at them. Are you? Prove it. Copy/Paste this as a new journal entry and answer every question you get.
The rules are simple:
- You must answer every question you get no matter what it's about and you must do so honestly.
- There are no questions that can not be asked as long as they are within reason. They can be personal, about oc's, and every thing inbetween. "
So, have fun :3

Well... Crap.
Posted 14 years agoI just got my results for the first semester of my masters. Ouch... Just ouch...
I failed DNA technology by just 2%, and I barely scraped through my other three modules (Bio of infectious disease, cell bio, and microbio).
I knew I could have done a little better (left studying for exams a little last minute this year), but I thought I would have done far better than that, at least.
Unfortunately this means I'm gonna have to retake my DNA tech exam in August. I'm not sure what date that will be, but if it clashes with EF (17th-22nd), I will NOT be happy.
To make matters worse, my draft dissertation is due in tomorrow, I still have a LOT to do, but after being kicked in the balls by my results, all motivation to work on it has just died.
The final deadline isn't until next week, but thanks to St Patrick's day my Irish dancing is going to be keeping me stupidly busy (Got 8 displays to do over the next week) so I'm not gonna have much time to add to it after today.
Today seemed to start off so awesomely, I had some -amazing- dreams last night which left me feeling energised and motivated when I got up. Now I just feel like crap and I wanna curl back up in bed again, but I can't because I only have 24 hours before my draft is due in.
I need hugs. :<

Posted 14 years ago2010 meme thinger =)
Posted 14 years agoHallo all! How's things? I hope you all had an awesome Christmas! ;D
Mine was rather uneventful, but nice enough. :)
I'll probably be updating this journal thinger sometime soon, as once again it's been a good few months since my last proper update. Though for now, have a meme! :P
Resolutions.
Hmmm, I don't really have many other than the obvious things like passing my masters degree and finding a job afterwards. :P
1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
- Started break/street dancing (only been to one lesson so far, but shall be continuing in the new year!)
- Told a couple of non-furry friends about my furry side
- Went on vacation with friends, rather than family for a change (Just a few nights in London, staying in a hostel, but it was -awesome-!)
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Ehm... I actually can't remember what they were last year! I think one was to do with getting through my degree, which I did, so yus! I kept em! :)
3. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Most likely playing Dance Central on kinect with some local furs. ;D
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Fortunately not this year.
5. What countries did you visit?
None! Stayed in England this year. Uni was too busy for me to go too far afield!
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Ehm... I dunno really! I'm pretty content at the moment. :)
7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Probably the few days in London methinks! Can't remember the exact date, but it was memorable enough. :)
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Passing my degree and graduating from Uni! :)
9. What was your biggest failure?
Running out of money, simply put. X3 I was waiting on a loan to cover my masters and living expenses for the year, but due to stupidly long delays and random tiny complications I ended up totally running out of money whilst waiting for it, and had to borrow from friends/family for a while until it came through. It was rather horrible, though I still can't thank those who helped out enough! <3
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Fortunately not! Had food poisoning one day, but after curling up in bed for like, 5 hours, I was fine. XD
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Prooobably my electronic drum kit! I love it with mouth! <3 Just a shame my housemate's being annoying and tells me off every time I try playing it lately. X_x
Also got a shiny new 24" HD monitor which I've hooked my 360 and computer up to, it's niiiiiice! <3
12. Where did most of your money go?
Proooobably food, rent and social life. X3
13. What song will always remind you of 2010?
"Sentimental" - Porcupine Tree. Love that track! <3
14. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Studying! Did tons of it, but still massively screwed up my exams, so evidently I could have done more!
15. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Borrowing money.
16. What was your favorite TV program?
This year, probably Dexter (Watched all 5 series within a month), Adventure Time, The Regular Show, and The Lost Room.
17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not at all! I've never really hated anyone! There's one guy I severely dislike, but I still wouldn't call that hate.
18. What was the best book you read?
The Philosopher and the Wolf.
19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Porcupine Tree and PVT (Thanks to
magrcon for those!)
20. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hmmmm... It's a tie between Scott Pilgrim and Inception, though I was also massively impressed by The Book Of Eli.
21. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
It was my 23rd! Didn't really do too much, just a little party at my place with lots of balloons!
22. What kept you sane?
Friends, simply put! I have many, and they're all awesome! <3
23. Who did you miss?
A couple of once -very- close friends who seem to be growing more and more distant. :/
24. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
Don't be sad, be awesome instead. :)
Mine was rather uneventful, but nice enough. :)

Thank you <3
Posted 15 years agoMethinks I have to start this journal off by saying how much I love this fandom/community/whatever you wanna call it. I've loved it since the day I became part of it, though this past couple of weeks have shown me just how awesome it can be. <3
This past few weeks have been preeeetty hard on me financially. I've been waiting on a loan coming through which will cover my masters degree and living expenses for the next year, but for various stupid little reasons it's been pushed back again and again (It's about a month late now). As a result, whilst waiting all this extra time, I've basically just run out of money. I'm way too deep into my overdraft, and my parents are unfortunately broke as well, so they have been unable to support me for most expenses (They they have helped me out with some food money, at least :) ).
After a particularly bad day/night (won't go into depth, but everything that could go wrong went wrong. I even got beaten up by some random angry guy for doing absolutely nothing) I came home to find out the loan had been delayed for the third time. As a result I ended up posting a few rather panicked messages on twitter, just to vent really, I didn't expect anything to come of them.
Within just three hours, I had three people offering to help me out with rent money, and so many well wishers I lost count! One close friend (Ya know who you are!) also surprised me by paypalling some money to me to cover food n' stuff for a while. Within just a few days, another close friend (You also know who you are!) had sent me all the money I needed to cover my rent for the month (Little under £200)!
I was honestly taken back by how quickly people were willing to lend a hand. I'm truly grateful, and actually rather touched by it all. :)
On top of this, a group of local furs who I've gotten to know over the past few months have been providing good company, and a lot of support. I've been managing to go to the cinema with them pretty often, and since a few of them are at my University we've made a point to meet up for lunch between lectures each week. It's been nice!
To everyone that's helped me out, or just provided support recently, I really can't thank you enough! <3
It might have been a hard time, but it's helped me to appreciate this fandom a whole lot more than I already did, and I'm proud to be a part of it. :D
Unfortunately my loan -still- hasn't come through yet, but it -should- be here by Monday. Since it's been delayed 3-4 times already I'm not holding out too much hope for it coming through by then, but I think I should be alright!
Once again, thank you all! <3
I'm gonna head to bed now though, it's nearly 5:00am. X3 See ya later, Take care!

23 Today! ^^
Posted 15 years agoOnce again I've taken waaaay too long updating this thing apart from random memestuffs and friend pimping. X3
As the subject says: Birthday today! =D
Not really got much planned for today apart from a meal with the parents later, though most of the day will be spent tidying the house, ready for a little house party/gathering/gaming night on Saturday. :) Should be a good laugh methinks!
Not a huuuuge amount has been happening around here lately! Since passing my degree I've had about 3 1/2 months of freedom, which was pretty awesome and full of social stuffs to begin with, but then once everyone started running low on funds it's got a lot quieter and more boring lately. :P
Managed to go to the cinema a LOT this year though! Probably more than I have in the last 3 years combined. X3 So far I've seen:
- Inception (Awesomeness)
- Toy Story 3
- Alice In Wonderland
- Four Lions (Filmed in my city (Sheffield)! Though they keep trying to say it's London XP )
- Lebanon
- Knight and Day
- The A-Team
- The Expendables
- Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (Awesomeness)
And i'm still planning on seeing quite a few more before the end of the year. ;)
A couple of weeks ago I got accepted to do a Masters degree in Biomedical Basis of Disease, so I'll be heading back to university on the 20th to start on that! =D
I've only got my timetable for the first week so far, and it's EVIL, so it's already looking kinda daunting. XD Think I'll be saying goodbye to free time and any form of social life for a year from the look of things. :P
The only worrying thing is that I'm still waiting to hear whether or not I'm eligible for a loan I REALLY need to cover the course costs and living expenses for the year. If I don't get this, I'm kinda screwed, so yeah... Eep! X_x
If I can get the loan, all will be well! I'll be able to live a little mroe comfortably this year, aaaand I'm taking out a little extra so I can get this:
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/ph.....o.php?id=71458 <3
I've been wanting a drum kit for YEARS now but never had the money or space for one. I thought Rock Band would at least calm my drum cravings but instead it only proved that I actually could play, and therefore made me want a kit even more!
Since I'm just in a little terrace house with lots of people living near me (The neighbour's kid's room is right next to mine X3 ), a proper kit would make me pretty unpopular quickly, so I thought I'd take the electronic route for now since I can use headphones. I should also be able to hook it up to the computer so I can play DTXmania as well. <3
Oh, one other worry is that I need to have dental surgery on monday. X_x Gotta get two teeth removed, but one of them is awkward and has stupidly deep roots, so rather than just pulling it out they need to cut it out. D: It's gotta be a bad sign when even the dentist says I'm not going to like them for quite a while afterwards. X_x
Aah well, other than money and teeth, all is well! :)
See you all later, take care!

60 things you didn't know about me meme thinger
Posted 15 years agoWell, it took me pretty much all night to get all this written down, but it was surprisingly enjoyable to put together! ^^
I've seen it around on a couple of other journals and they were pretty interesting to read, so I thought I'd give it a go, too!
60 random facts about myself!
1) I've worn the same £10 chain and pendant for about as long as I've been in the fandom (About 8-9 years) before losing the pendant at a nightclub recently. X_x I have a new one now though, which is gradually gaining a similar level of sentimental value.
2) Whilst thinking of #1 I tried tossing a peanut m&m into my mouth and hit myself in the eye instead. That hurt both my eye -and- my pride! x_o
3) I love music, and can lay in bed for -hours- just listening to album after album
4) Though more particularly, I LOVE rhythm. Any music with interesting drumming/percussion can keep me coming back over and over, which is why:
5) Industrial dance is quickly becoming one of my favourite genres.
6) Live industrial gigs are one of the few things which can make me loose all inhibitions and just dance like no one's watching. <3
7) Over the years I've (kinda) learned to play loads of different instruments, including violin, tenor horn, recorder, penny whistle, keyboard, flute, and I also used to sing in one of the top school choirs in the country.
8) I've wanted to play drums for -years- but never managed to get a kit due to lack of space/money.
9) I thought Rock Band would help to tide me over in that area, though instead it just showed me that I -could- actually pick up drumming quite easily. Now I want a drum kit even more! D:
10) I'm semi-addicted to Dr. Pepper <3
11) I stumbled across the fur-fandom completely by chance during an image search for tigers. Other than a lifelong love of big cats, I'd never even considered the possibility of anthro creatures or the community surrounding them until that random encounter.
12) Within just a few days I'd found out all about it, and have been hooked ever since. <3
13) It only took me about a week to come up with Torque, and other than giving him his liquid metal weapon, I've never changed his design/appearance in about 8 years. I'm still very happy with it.
14) My first idea for Torque was actually a rather standard looking cougar, though that only lasted 2 days.
15) On average I seem to draw just one pic every 1 1/2 years which gets beyond a very rough sketch.
16) The first ever furry image I came across was the kinda thing that would instantly scare off about 99% of the population. A huge, naked, -very- male macro tiger rampaging through a city.
17) To this day I still don't actually know what made me decide to explore further, rather than flee, upon finding it.
18) At that time I hadn't even figured out I was gay, which makes it's initial appeal that bit more confusing. XD
19) However, within just days of finding the furry fandom, I'd worked out I had teh ghey, and came to terms with it amazingly easily.
20) My older brother is also gay, and came out years ago before moving to Holland to live with his boyfriend.
21) Despite knowing how well the family accepted my bro and his bf, I still haven't come out to them yer, just because I've not yet found the need to. =P
22) If I get into a local relationship anytime soon I'll -definitely- come out, since I wouldn't want to have to keep a boyfriend hidden from friends/family. It wouldn't be fair on them.
23) When I was young and first learning to write, I used to write from right to left, perfect mirror writing, which is apparently a sign of genius. XD If only!
24) The first time I used a computer I thought it had gone wrong because the text was going from left to right as I typed.
25) When I was young I was -terrified- of anything remotely hospital-related, and used to cry if anything medical-based came on tv. I then spent most of my life working towards being a doctor. Go figure. X3
26) Apparently when I was about 3 years old I used to tell surprisingly vivid stories about life as a fireman, and regularly got distressed that I was unable to save a dog from a burning building.
27) It got to the point where my (Usually very rational) mum was wondering if it was something to do with a past life. I don't actually remember any of this myself now though. X3
28) Until this past few years I'd have laughed at the idea of a previous life, though I'm now actually gaining a pretty firm belief in some form of reincarnation (See my old journal on Eternal Recurrence).
29) I've always been brought up to be very scientifically minded (As in, I find it -very- hard to accept anything which has no solid evidence), so even I'm surprised by my own belief in reincarnation.
30) My belief in therianthropy is another thing which surprises me, though regardless of whether there's proof or not, the feeling I have around tigers, and previous experiences with them, is enough proof to me that there's gotta be something connecting us.
31) If I so much as catch a slight glimpse of a tiger on tv my heart skips a beat, and I can't even describe what I feel when I'm actually sat alongside them in zoos, it's just an amazing feeling, I know that much.
32) The only downside is that if I see any photos/videos of them being hunted/harmed/killed, it almost feels like I've lost a family member. I've come across the occasional photo which has shocked me to the point of crying (In both sadness and anger), and which has kept me awake for a number of nights.
33) I'm now too nervous to do an image search for tigers as a result, since that was what led me to those photos in the first place.
34) Strangely enough, I'm perfectly fine with pretty gory/morbid art involving anthro tigers.
35) I'm not squeamish in the slightest, and I actually want to become a surgeon eventually, yet any hand injuries (no matter how small) make me cringe. X3
36) I've been Irish dancing for nearly 15 years now, and have competed in the World Championships three times. At my peak I was the 23rd best male dancer in the world. :)
37) I stopped competing this year, though I still do dancing displays for various events, ranging from weddings, to charity events, to birthdays etc...
38) Before university I was very close to applying for a part in Riverdance or Lord of the Dance, alongside Michael Flatley. I'd filled out all the applications, but decided to continue with my education instead.
39) An old video of me Irish dancing on Youtube recently passed 100,000 views. ^^
40) I've been playing DDR for about 12 years now (ever since it was released here in 1998), and have qualified for the UK championships twice.
41) The first time I competed in the DDR UK Championships I tripped myself over in the first round and lost by just one step as a result. X_x
42) I was however, the only person in the tournament who didn't hold onto the bar, and gained quite a bit of respect for my stamina at the time. ^^
43) Although I know barely anything about most animé, I've been to a huge animé convention in London three times now, and cosplayed as Light Yagami from Death Note last time I was there.
44) Death Note quickly became one of my favourite ever series, alongside Wolf's Rain and House. <3
45) House's job is preeeetty much my dream occupation. I -love- diagnostic work. Unfortunately I doubt the job actually exists, but I still wanna work towards it, regardless. XD
46) I'm also rather interested in perusing a career in neuroscience research, which seems far more likely, though it's still gonna take a lot of determination!
47) There are far too many hobbies I want to pursue but university barely allows time for just one of em. X3
48) I'm still barely able to draw anything, so by giving Torque a liquid metal weapon I kinda shot myself in the foot when it comes to attempting to draw him using it. Liquid metal is a bitch to draw XD
49) During breaks from University I let my body clock take over, going to bed only when I'm tired enough, and getting up when I feel like it. As a result my sleeping pattern often completely inverts, and I often become pretty much nocturnal. X3
50) I love watching street dancing, but I think I'd break myself if I ever attempted it.
51) Ever since playing as Kilik on Soul Calibur II I've wanted to learn how to use a Bo Staff. Still do!
52) I also want to learn to use poi, and improve on my diabalo and yo-yo skills!
53) I pretty much live in a permanent state of awe over the imagination of others.
54) Tiny the Tiger from the Crash Bandicoot series was probably my first cartoon crush. XD Well, up until The Wrath of Cortex, at least.
55) My two brothers are 13 and 15 years older than me. I'm the baby of the family by far!
56) Despite the age difference, they're both awesome company, and I couldn't have asked for better siblings.
57) I tend to dress like a goth on a budget. I'd love to be more adventurous with my clothing but all the stuff I like costs a sillystupid amount X3
59) About 99% of my wardrobe is black, apart from a couple of pairs of blue jeans.
60) I started this thing at about 2:00am, and it's now 6:45am... Think I'm gonna rest my eyes for a while now!
I've seen it around on a couple of other journals and they were pretty interesting to read, so I thought I'd give it a go, too!

A good friend is offering cheap commissions! Go see! Now! ;D

Prices are from just $10 (for a single character sketch), which is definitely a good deal for his work! ^^
More details about his situation, and commission information, are in his journal here:

If you've not seen him around I definitely recommend checking out his gallery, at least! I've loved his style for years now, and still do! ^^

I passed my degree! :D
Posted 15 years agoWell, after three pretty stressy years of Uni I just got my final results.
I somehow managed to pass everything! I now have a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science! :D
Unfortunately I didn't quite get the grade I was hoping for, which is meh, but I'm still really happy I managed to pass all my modules, since I really thought I'd be retaking at least 3 exams. X3
I'll write a better journal soon since I've actually got quite a bit to talk about for a change, but since I'm typing this on my phone i'll wait for now. :B

Life, university, music, concerts, Avatar n' Formspring! :)
Posted 15 years agoOk, it's been waaaay too long since I last journal'd anything, and since this is a great way of -not- studying (Despite the fact I reeeeally should be), methinks I'll update on any interesting things that've been happening since my last post (about 4 months ago X3 ).
For the most part, my final year of university has been going pretty well! My coursework grades have been higher than the previous couple of years and a lot of things finally seem to be clicking into place. I took on Neuroscience as a module this year which has turned out to be my favourite area so far, the nervous system is a pretty fascinating thing!
From Monday I'll be starting work on my final year research project, seven weeks spent in labs working on research which may end up published in a national medical journal. Since I'm enjoying it, neuroscience is the area I'll be going into, and the project I've been given sounds like it'll be pretty awesome from what little I know about it so far. Essentially I'll be treating cancer cells (which resemble brain cells, though unlike brain cells they replicate), to try and make them more like nerve cells, then carrying out various tests to work out the differences between the treated and untreated cells. I'm really looking forward to it, though it seems like I'm gonna have a lot of work to get through in those 7 weeks. =P
The only other University related thing is exams, though they're a bit of a sore spot at the moment so I won't dwell on them much. To put it simply, they're horrible. I mean REALLY horrible. I've spent HOURS studying for them, and I've written pages and pages of notes in that time, but so far none of it has been worth it, since the actual exams have asked about completely different topics. All three of them. I still have one more exam to go on Thursday, and I reeeeally wish I could clamber together some form of confidence about it, but I really can't. I'm dreading it.
Back to good stuffs!
This past few months have been extremely good for me music-wise!
My taste in music has always been pretty broad, covering pretty much anything from Nine Inch Nails, to Aphex Twin, to Jack Johnson, and even things like Enya or Mika. Though recently I think I've finally found my genre.... Industrial. <3
I dunno how it took me so long to get into it, but now that I've found it, maaaan I'm hooked. I've been listening to a few industrial groups for a while (Combichrist, Wumpscut and Front Line Assembly) but never really thought to look into things more than that until this last couple of months. I don't think any other music has gripped me like this before. I can't stop finding more and more that I love.
A couple of weeks ago this was firmly reinforced when I went to see Combichrist live. It was only a small concert at a local nightclub but... Wow... Not only was it the best concert I've been to, by a long shot (Even surpassing Nine Inch Nails and Tool), but probably one of the best experiences of my life. I got there early so I managed to secure a place riiight at the front, in the centre, leaning against the barriers. From the start of the first supporting act to the end of the main set, it was just amazing. I can't even describe the atmosphere there. I've never been to a concert before where -everyone- was truly just taken in by the music. There was no pushing or shoving to get to the front, and I had plenty of room to move despite being against the barrier in front of the stage. Everyone was too busy just dancing, and I mean everyone. Even me, and I -never- normally dance in public. X)
It was a long set, too! At least two hours, and that's not including the two support groups who were on for about an hour each! They played for ages, then managed to fit in two good length encores on top of that. <3
Oh man, and the drummers! They're both insane! It's awesome! They each had huge drum sets set up on either side of the stage, and spent the entire gig throwing things at each other, ranging from empty water bottles, to drum sticks, and then just picking up their drums and launching them at each other, much to the dismay of the staff who had to rebuild them between tracks. XD They're amazingly talented though, and the actual albums really don't do them justice compared to seeing them in action live. Some of the rhythms they were churning out as a pair just blew me away, especially when every beat of the bass drum felt like someone was smacking me in the chest... Purrrr...
So yeah, if you ever have the opportunity to see them live, take it!
I was at another gig earlier tonight as well! =D
I managed to go and see God Is An Astronaut, who've been one of my favourite bands for a good few months now. <3 Again, I managed to get front row centre (Exactly the same spot I was in for Combichrist), and it was a pretty amazing gig, though it kinda caught me off guard! All the time I've been listening to their albums they've struck me as a very chilled out, mellow instrumental band. On stage it's a totally different matter! It sounds sooo much more aggressive and energetic live it actually came as a bit of a shock for the first couple of tracks! The two guitarists looked like they were snarling whenever they were playing, whilst thrashing around the stage, head banging and jumping around. It really wasn't what I expected, but it was still a really good concert, and they played pretty much all of my favourites, so that was goooood.
I've always loved the drums for their music, so it was awesome being able to see the drummer up close. Though one thing that did kinda disappoint me was that whenever there was a drum solo, he didn't actually play it! He just sat there whilst a pre-recorded solo played, then carried on afterwards. X3
I also made a friend for the night, which was pretty nice since I'd have been on my own otherwise. :) I got talking to her whilst we were queuing outside, starting off with typical small talk with lots of awkward silences, though after spending the night next to each other for the entire concert, we were talking and laughing as though we'd known each other for years. XD She'd been trying to play it cool for a while to start with, trying not to look too overexcited about seeing the band, buuut by the end of the support act she'd cracked, and we were both shamelessly fanboi-ing/fangirling over them. XP
Right at the end of the gig, the lead guitarist jumped off stage to say hello and shake hands with the two of us and a couple of others, leaving us both with big stupid grins on our faces. XD
Unfortunately I didn't manage to get any contact details from her at the end of the night, since I ended up having to dash off to catch my bus before we got chance. :/ We've both agreed we're gonna meet up next time they come to Sheffield later this year though, at least!
Next topic to come to mind - Avatar!
Before the concert tonight, I managed to go and see it for the third time this month with a few friends from Uni, and it still managed to blow me away. <3 The story might be kinda cliché, there's no denying that, but the way the story is presented is -really- well done, and it still drew me in better than any equivalent films have (E.g. Animals of Farthing Wood or Pocahontas). I love pretty much everything about that film, and it's been a long time since I've been able to say that. The imagination that's gone into every fragment of the environment, creatures, technology, plants, the Na'vi themselves, and everything else is just incredible. A lot of people complain that it's all effects held together by a weak storyline, though with this film that doesn't really bother me.
Since my imagination is always so frustratingly stunted whenever I try and draw/write anything even remotely original, I tend to thrive on the imagination of others, whether through their art or through graphics on games/films. I'm totally in awe of what an active imagination can produce, and Avatar is a prime example of that, from the minute detailing of the marine equipment, to the beautiful bioluminescent scenes of night time Pandora.
One more lil update.
Since I sent of my med school application I've only heard back from two out of the four I applied for, though both of those were rejections. :P I'm still yet to hear from the other two, which could be any day now, though I'm not holding out too much hope. I don't really mind though, since if I don't get in this time around, I'm hoping to do a masters degree in Neuroscience, which could either boost my application for med school next year, or lead me onto a different career path that I think I'll enjoy. I'm definitely not giving up on my goal of studying medicine, I still want to get there eventually, but if neuroscience holds my interest like I think it will, it can at least provide me with interesting work until I get enough experience for Medicine later down the line. :)
Oh! I also decided to hop on the bandwagon and joined up here:

ASK STUFF! :D
Hmmm... That's about all I've been up to really, the rest of my time has been taken over by studying, so methinks I'll leave it here!
See ya later everyone, take care!

Hmmm... That's about all I've been up to really, the rest of my time has been taken over by studying, so methinks I'll leave it here!
See ya later everyone, take care!
WingsOfJudas could use some help!
Posted 15 years agoHey! Long time no update!
wingsofjudas is currently trying hard to raise around $2000 to get her septic tank replaced!
To try and raise this money she is offering commissions ranging from badges to full colour illustrations to oil paintings!
(More detail in her journal here:
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1161052 )
She has a pretty awesome style, and she's offering some very good prices at the moment!
Badges ($15-20)
8.5x11" Full Colour Illustrations ($40)
16x20" Custom Oil Paintings on canvas ($100)
Her gallery is definitely worth checking out if you haven't already seen it:
http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/wingsofjudas/
If you can help out, or at least help her advertise, I'm sure she'll be extremely grateful! :)
