Post Vancoufur 2013
Posted 12 years agoHello all,
I know I don't right many journals about cons, but what the hell, I put alot of work into this one, lol
For those that don't know, I do all of the dance lighting at Vancouver Furry Events
It starts out, 2 weeks before the con, prepping the lighting fixtures, cleaning, replacing bulbs and planning light locations etc. There's a flaw in my routine though, after an event im too tired to look at/inspect every light, this became the beginning of my battle, because after Howloween 2012, I agreed to let a few furs help me pack up...
Long story short, stuff happened I guess and fixtures were damaged. I hadn't realized this until 2 weeks before Vancoufur 2013 and was in for a nasty surprise. So, after one of my most expensive moving head lights (1 of 4) was declared utterly destroyed, I set about repairing the rest, and adding new fixtures.
Now that I have a shop again for the first time in 5 Years (Since I started The Doghouse) I can actually set up
Malicai_fox Truss -before- the event, with all the fixtures on it. So I was able to plan where each fixture would specifically go, as I knew the truss would be overloaded weight wise, it was very important.
So, The day before the con (thurs) I get off work at 5pm and drive 30mins home, Load up the Truck and head to the hotel. I've learned my lesson at this point, and despite kind furs offering to help set up, I decline and decide to do it myself, that way if anything get's broken this time i can only blame myself.
Anyway, I left the hotel at 3am Fri morning with the lighting rig pretty much ready to go. I went home and went straight to bed, to get up at 6:45am for my friday staff meeting. I worked again till 5, flew home like a stabbed rat, grabbed clothes and supplies (because I hadn't thought of it earlier) and went straight to the con.
On the way, I picked up the 3rd and new final light fixture of the con, from a guy named "Manuel", this is relevant because i've never actually met anyone in person with that name.
Upon arriving at the con I did lighting for opening ceremonies. Which, as I found out is pretty tricky with lights that are designed for raves, but hey, I managed!
After that was the Friday night dance, it went well and I think i held up pretty good, but may have drunk to much beer, because I was wrecked in the morning, either from the alcohol or just fatigue...I dunno.
Did the Fursuit Parade on Saturday anyway, that's always been where my interest lies in the fandom, but didn't get much done this con ;(
Saturday Night was Insanity. With
P_Dawg
Disaster_Dog and
Kihu DJing I had my paws full. The dance floor was so bloody packed I gave it everything I could to keep up. Running so many lights at once was silly (it was like daylight in that room) and caused breakers to blow.
For one of the blowouts I ran over to reset it, a bit drunk, and clipped my leg on a jagged edge on one of my toolboxes. Didn't mind at the time, shrugged it off. Next morning? Leg hurts like hell, go to take a shower and notice i'm covered in blood from the knee down! XD
Sunday was bad, I was tired and hungover as hell, but still managed to get into fursuit at some point, but missed suiting with my friends, just my luck!
The Dead Dog was hard, by this time I was so utterly exhausted and ready to die, i'm surprised I got thru it. I was unable to take down the rig at that point, since I had to be up early to work.
By the time I got back to the hotel (Monday Night) someone had taken it all down and left it on the floor (Despite my specific "No Touchy" Instructions.
Luckily, only one light got broken while I was away, which Electrocuted me the next night trying to repair it, lol
All in all I had a great con, exhausting...but great, I gotta say seeing
SokiTwopaw and
samwisehusky again as well as the Saturday Night dance were my highlights
Also, I need a fur I can teach what I've learned to, who would eventually become my partner in this money pit of a hobby. So that I can actually take some time to enjoy the con and fursuit with friends XD
That's all for now!
Cheers

Help Akonite!
Posted 13 years agoI'm sure most of you don't know yet, but
akonite was robbed, and lost all of his D.J. Gear. An iMac, Macbook Pro and a Traktor S4 DJ Controller were stolen. All of his music and sets are gone, we can't replace those, but we can at least help with the gear. I'm pricing all of it out now. He would never accept the donations, but I'll just go buy the gear I can for him to get back on stage for Howloween. He doesn't have a paypal account, so I'll run it though mine. Torwin_2120[at]hotmail.com
I will personally contribute $500 to the cause.
Thanks for your help and support, there is no one more deserving.

R.I.P Penny
Posted 14 years agoOne of our dogs "Penny" just passed away, at 9pm PST, She went comfortably in
jessietwolf 's arms. She had been battling health issues for years and just recently had knee surgery. She had a siezure a couple days ago and had been going downhill since. Of all of our many dogs, she was the smallest, but fiercest, we often referred to her as "Penny: Destroyer of Worlds", for she had no problem telling off a 90lb Rottwieler and a hyper Border Collie, especially in they're puppy stages. Penny was somewhat the mascot of our furhouse "The Doghouse" as she had a natural pawprint shaped marking on her hip. Though I generally dislike smaller breeds, this Chihuahua was an exception, she fought right to the end and I'm honored to have spent almost two years with her.
R.I.P Penny, we'll miss you
I'll post some pics of her too.
Cheers

Posted 15 years agoWell, it's finally done. Months of rehearsal and not being able to tell anyone what I'm doing well hear it is!
I performed in the Closing Ceremonies, at a "Marching Canadian" or "Marching Mountie", I appear directly after Michale Buble's First appearance and am on until the end of the segment which was called "Made in Canada" and featured all of the inflatable mounties, beavers, moose etc. I am with the first group that marches out, before the hockey players. 2nd row, 2nd from the right.
More info and pics soon!

Sold my Motorcycle!
Posted 16 years agoWell, it's done, as of yesterday, I no longer own the machine that nearly cost me my left leg. I managed to get a bunch for it, not monetarily as such but received the below list, hehe
-Brand New Blackberry Storm Smart Touch Phone-Valued at $699.00 without a contract ($499.00 w/3yr)
-Brand New Ipod Shuffle (Still in Box)
-HP iPaq PDA
-XM Satellite Radio System
-$100.00 Gift Card for Future Shop (Canadian Version of Bestbuy)
-$150.00 Cash-Canadian
Now, to put this into perspective for you this motorcycle has been in destroyed condition since Jan. 20 2006. When I moved it over to the Mainland from my Fathers shop on Vancouver Island. My Roommate "Ruggs" and I completely disassembled it, Right down to the frame, small enough parts to throw in the back of the furvan. We had intended to rebuild it, but having the bike around again just dredged up old painful memories and the occasional nightmare of the moments leading up to the wreck that changed my life.
So, all in all I'm quite happy about the trade, I'll probably sell off the PDA, XM Radio and iPod, just for some extra cash, god knows I need it, lol. Which brings me to another point. Jessie T. Wolf and I won't be attending FC this year. One of our pups needed $700.00 worth of Surgury, adding to the $1000.00 tab we already had at the clinic. That and the Furvan needed $860.00 worth of repair after it froze solid in the snow. But, since I don't have my new suit yet, somehow it doesn't feel as painful, call me crazy. So I'm sorry to everyone we'll miss there and I hope to see you soon regardless!
Cheers
~Tor~
P.S. This is what the bike looked like just after the accident, it's now in pieces small enough to fit in boxes, lol

My Dog is Dead.
Posted 16 years agoI have just learned that my dog has died. It hurts like hell. Most people would say whatever to such a thing, and hey, that's what I'd even normally do, I have a fairly carefree/Hakuna Matata attitude. But this feels different, I grew up with this dog, he's been my friend and companion for the better part of my life. So, here I sit in some sort of daze, I figure I should talk about this, to avoid slipping slowly into madness. So, here we are...
I rescued him from the SPCA when I was very young. He had been left abandoned, tied to the back of a porch in the middle of a canadian winter it was -30 when they picked him up. The family had moved away, leaving him to die. He was missing one of his legs. The SPCA was calling him "Pirate" while he was there. No one had adopted him due to his disability. I thought he was awesome and unique, we even connected from the start. I renamed him "Brody"
I feel the need to impress the importance of this dog to my very being. It was because of the connection to this dog, that I even became a furry, and am a border collie. It was THIS dog that I felt so strongly connected to. I spent all of my time with this dog. Most Furries have their fursonas but don't connect with the actual animal in the same way. It can be a bit tricky hanging out with a Wolf or Fox I suppose. This is just a guess though, If you've had the opportunity to hang out with your animal equivalent, bravo.
Just before I moved here from Vancouver Island, my grandfathers dog died, a Golden Lab named Ben. So, knowing I was moving and being unsure about animal housing in Vancouver, I decided to let my Grandfather take Brody in his time of loss. It was hard enough being away from Brody, I haven't seen my Dog in four months, and now he is dead. I'm told he was bright eyed and shiny coated right to the end.
....so much pain, I've never dealt with this before. My only consolation is in my 6 month old Border Collie Pup, Tobias (Toby) whom I named after Brody. Think I might go be with him for a bit actually, the screen is blurring up.
Rest in Peace mate', you'll always be my companion and brother. I'll miss you more than anything.
here's my last picture of Brody,

I've done loads of theater for the past 6 or 7 years and do extra work in Feature Films for a living these days. But I've never performed for a audience of this size and scale!, The whole world!! Brings a whole new meaning to stage fright, hehe
