General | Posted 13 years agoOne of the biggest softball tournaments in the world. Olympic, and world championship umpires fill the crew but somehow I ended up getting the plate on the Final. Big big money on the line, huge crowd and 3 Olympic umpires I was in charge of.
And officially became the youngest umpire to Crew Chief that final and I have been the crew chief on more finals then anyone in NZ this year :D
Only one more tournament to go and then its off to Canada baby :P

General | Posted 13 years agoThat's right, I am handling so many balls these last few weekends............. Thanks to softball that is ;)
Been neck deep into the National Championships. Just became the youngest person to crew chief a U17 Championship and hopefully do the same with the U19's this weekend as a late replacement :D
On a side note, I will be doing "Round North America #2" .... So if anyone wants to hang, catch up, meet up, party etc.... Just shoot me a message so I can start planning this out. Just had a week previously planned clear up so stoked to have more chances to meet up with others :)
Hope your 2013 is bringing you all joy happiness and love btw :D

Vacation's over. Back to the grind
General | Posted 13 years agoSo last month I ventured over to Sydney for the International Youth Cup and man was it ever an experience. My accommodation were rough as. 4 guys in a small cabin with a hot water heater that only had enough hot water to last 15mins, so as you could guess morning showers were fun. Also the cabin had no heater and in the middle of winter that isn't a good thing XD
The tournament itself was another story. The 5 day tournament was amazing and at the end of it all I was selected as top umpire and got to call the Gold medal game as Crew Chief. It was a great experience and opened the chance to stay 2 more days to umpire 2 international friendly's which I did.
Coming back home to Auckland was nice, and I was able to enjoy 2 more weeks of vacation before work started. Now its back to work, and training for the upcoming softball season as well as the Canadian Death Race, which I will hopefully be running with a mate *cough* Tdawg *cough* :P
Visa expires in November so we will see at that point where abouts I will be spending Xmas :P
Cheers

General | Posted 13 years agoWell I'm off to the Olympic Stadium in Sydney today to umpire at the International Youth Cup. This will be my first official ISF tournament with teams from New Zealand, Aussie, and South Africa competing.
I am 1 of 2 umpires representing New Zealand at this tournament and I can't wait to be calling games at this venue :D

Auckland Marathon this weekend
General | Posted 14 years agoWell not too much to say except that I am starting to get super excited for my final Marathon of the Season :P
Training leading up to this race has been horrible to say the least lol First was a week off due to the Ultra-Marathon. The first day back into my training I was hit by a car during work and had to take another week off XD
Once recovered from the accident I got back into training for half a week until I fell super ill. Just got over it yesterday and now I am only 3 days out for the race XD The only good thing is that all my previos us training will get me through this :P
Goals: Sub 4hrs (3:40 goal time)
Have a blast and enjoy it :D
On side note, plans are coming together nicely for a trip somewhere cold ;) lol
Cheers

NZ UltraMarathon Championships - Results
General | Posted 14 years agoWhat a race I gotta say first off. I went into many deep dark places in my head and pushed my body to its limit. The race had a ton of twists and turns that kept me on my toes but when the dust settled I must say I am very happy how things turned out.
When the gun fired it didn't take long for a lead group to form. However out of nowhere some dude just kept lapping all of us a what seemed close to world record pace. This continued for about a hour, while our lead group fell to 4 runners at this point. All of us wanted to up the pace and chase after the "bullet" but we saw him slow down and before we knew it he was gassed and we still had over 4hrs or racing left...... Sweet-as lets focus on ourselves now.
The lead group changed a few times between 3-5 runners in it at any given time. About 3hrs in 3 of the guys made a break that I didn't want to match. I needed to run smart and hope they would slow down. Sadly I "Hit the wall" around the 49km mark (7km longer than a Marathon) and my pace slowed down. I got some salt into me and before I knew it I was back on track. At this point I was tied with 2 other guys with 20mins left. With the top 3 outta reach due to great running all I could do was see if I could keep or improve on my seeding. Picked up the pace for the last 5km and ended up breaking one of the guys in our group but got out kicked by another. The good thing was that for the last 5km I was making ground on all the leaders, showing me I just need to avoid hitting that wall again and I can fight for the title.
Finishing Totals
5th Place
58.3km in 6hrs
1 Numb foot and a busted Ankle :D
Next up: Auckland City Marathon :D

New Zealand Ultra-Marathon Championships
General | Posted 14 years agoWell tomorow is the big day for me :3 I have been accepted to race in the National 6hr Ultra Marathon Championships which are to be run tomorrow morning in Auckland :D
I am super pumped and will be aiming for a goal distance of 60km ran. If I can reach that goal I should be up there for the win if the last 2 years are any indication. Currently I am seeded 5th in the country somehow and hopefully can add a National Championship to my accomplishments.
Thanks to everyone down here who puts up with me and my addiction to the sport of long distance running :) And to everyone back up Canada and States who put up with my random Running rants :D
Now its bottle making time :P
Cheers
