International Transgender Day of Visibility
Posted 10 years agoHey everyone! Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility.
The hash-tag: #transgenderdayofvisibility
So why is transgender visibility important? The TSER sums it up pretty well with this: http://www.transstudent.org/transvisibility
I also deeply feel that it is important that people know we exist. I know not everyone is comfortable being open about their trans identity. I'm selective myself in some communities about who I tell. Those who are comfortable about being open in regards to their gender identity, should share what they can.
The more the world knows and sees us, the more they will know about us. With knowledge and understanding, fear and hate have no place to grow.
Be safe out there and be good to yourselves.

Fear and hate is the poison.
Posted 10 years agoI'll never pretend that I've had some profound change on the world. I'm not an advocate. I don't cry out at injustice or go to protest anything. That's not what I do, not who I am. I just be myself and share my story bit by bit.
This morning I ran across this article. It really hit me hard. I've recently started streaming video games on Twitch. I don't do it often. This is because I find myself fearful that if I did get successful with it, I'd have someone try to stalk me, or harm me and my family.
It scares me to think, that anyone could have this happen. Regardless of gender. Regardless if they are speaking out or not. People do it because they want a 'laugh' at the expense of the emotional harm of others sometimes! To use the internet for this sort of thing is horrible. Fear and hate is what pushed on people when others do this sort of thing.
I have watched people be harassed on many online communities. Seen videos of very popular youtubers talking about the poison of the negativity that comes from the online communities. It saddens me how easily it is for a person to hate over the internet. A keyboard has so much more power that people realize, or maybe they do. Yet in their twisted minds they find it fun to break people down. They find it their right to hate others to the point that they break.
However, I know there is a way to counter this. Fear and hate is often countered by understanding and love. At the risk of sounding sappy, love is needed out there, it is the cure. So I encourage you all, send less hate and more love out there. Even if you don't know that person. Even if you feel that message will be lost. At least it is OUT there. Go find your favorite youtuber, or someone just starting. Tell them how awesome they are. Tell them how much you enjoy watching what they do. How much you enjoy someone's artwork, or how it brings you happiness or makes you laugh. Because sometimes just hearing something like that can make all the difference in a person's life. I know it has for me when it happens.
For those of you from the Transfurs page that do creative art, regardless if it's youtube videos, streaming, artwork, writing poems. Whatever it is, post your page on here. Let people know you're out there. We all know you could use a little love and support in your life.

Good New for Once!
Posted 12 years agoConversion Therapy/Reparative Therapy Petition
Posted 12 years agoHi all,
This petition was brought to my attention, and honestly, I fully support it. The petition is for banning all Conversion Therapy/Reparative Therapy and all "ex-gay" ministries.
When I first attempted to transition, after coming out to my parents, they forced me to go to a reparative therapist. Thankfully, after one session I lied to my parents and told them I realized it was a terrible mistake and had no more interest in being a woman. It was a good enough lie to keep me from going back (plus the high cost and ridiculous distance we had to drive.) Even after one session, it kept me feeling horrible about myself. Guilty, is how I felt, over being myself.
Link to the petition: Conversion Therapy/Reparative Therapy condemned as illegal and all "ex-gay" ministries shut down.
You can thank
yeldarbis for this petition and reaching out to me to add it to the transfurs website.

International Transgender Day of Remembrance
Posted 13 years agoIt is that time of year once more, where we spend a moment of time remembering those who we have lost through anti-transgender crimes. It is a sad and some times scary reminder that the world is far from perfect. On November 20, 2012 TDOR takes place, though some vigils and events are planned for different dates. Please check the website below to check on event times near your location. More information of TDOR can be found at the website as well.
http://www.transgenderdor.org/
Be safe out there, and happy holidays to those who have already celebrated some and the ones coming up.

Catching up!
Posted 13 years agoAlright, it's been awhile since I've wrote on here. A lot of stuff has been going on in my life (good, bad, and ugly.) However I feel like I am coming on out of the worst of it now, and building up energy to get things rolling again on here! See if I cannot get back to monthly postings of some sort.
Excitingly enough (at least to me,) we now have 700 watchers! Amazing!!! Thank you all the new watches that have come about over the last several months.
More meaningful posts coming soon!

Updates and AC Trans* Meetup
Posted 13 years agoSo just wanted to poke in and say that I had not forgotten about this wonderful community, and I do still frequent the page and notes, etc. However life has hit me very hard lately, and I will be slow with sharing and posting things for a little while. In the mean time...
Skittle is putting together a trans* meetup at AC this year. More information here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3522369/
On a final note, as of right now we are 2 watches away from 600! Amazing! Thank you to all our new, and old watchers!

Updates For Last Month!
Posted 13 years agoHello all!
First off, news from early February. I am sure many of you heard about the victory for same sex marriages. In case you didn’t hear any news about this, California’s ban on same sex marriage was ruled to be unconstitutional by a Federal appeals court. Click here for yahoo’s news article on it. I hope that this will speak for change across this nation, as well as for the world. I have also heard there have been similar success stories across other states as well, though I could not find those articles. (Feel free to post any you know of!) Fantastic news for those trans* who are in same sex relationships who wish to get married.
Any of you that like reddit will likely enjoy this. Transspace is a newer page on reddit. It’s a great place to gather community feed back, have questions answered, and find support. I will also be adding this to the main page. Transspace is manged by
Skittle
Last but far from least is another petition that has been making the rounds. Stop Trans Health Care Discrimination calls for all health care providers to end discrimination towards trans* people and their health care needs. Check it out at the link above.
No emotional stories this time. However if you know of any, toss them my way and I will definitely look them over! As a note, please do not be offended it I do not or take a long time to reply to notes or messages. I always take my time considering my responses and if I should repost or not. I always read everything that is sent to me or Transfurs.

PayPal and anti-LGBT groups
Posted 13 years agoI know there have been a lot of journals lately, but a lot of importance stuff has be going on!
Allout.org has created a petition to put pressure on Paypal to put a stop to anti-LGBT extremist groups using Paypal to raise funding. These kinds of groups promote hate and often violence towards others.
Petition is located here: http://allout.org/paypal

World Association for Transgender Health
Posted 13 years agoAlso known as WPATH (http://www.wpath.org) has been producing the "Standards for Care" for transgender health for medical use for a number of years. Chances are your doctor or therapist/psychotherapist has read one of the many version and use it's guidelines in treating you.
The reason I wanted to bring it up is that I recently found out that in I believe October of 2011 they realized a new Standards of Care. Much of the information I have known is outdated. The Standards of Care goes over use of hormones, expected amount of how long changes will continue, risks, requirements, mental health concern, surgery requirements, and the list goes on.
One thing that came to light for me was there are options to have genital surgery for people who do not wish or cannot go on hormone replacement therapy. It lists out more details under the surgery section. Some of you may be interested in this option and could be worth talking with your medical professional about. Another thing is that you only have to wait 1 year now to be eligible for surgery (I have no idea when this changed but I know 7 years ago it was still 2 year waiting period on hormones and living as the desired gender) which I think is great news.
Now please be aware that a lot of insurance companies are still following outdated versions of the Standards of Care, and so could your doctor or therapist. I encourage all who are considering seeking medical or mental health to read up on this. It will help you learn the terminology they use as well as have good questions for them as to where you are at with your transition.
Standards of Care for Transgender Health 7th version located here.
So what did you find in there that relates to you that you didn't know or that has changed from what you have been told or last knew?

NYPD Trans Abuse
Posted 13 years agoA real shocking article. I always feared this kind of stuff even though I keep my nose fairly clean. But this kind of mistreatment is horrifying. This is abuse, plan and simple, abuse of power, abuse of a human being. It's upsetting to read. Hopefully the lawsuit will be a victory and will be a message to all police departments that this kind of abuse will not be tolerated.

Please try to keep comments constructive, just because a few cops are bad doesn't mean they all are.
I swear my next post will not be such an upsetting story!

Rolling Stones Article: One Town's War on Gay Teens
Posted 13 years agoI have been hearing about this story all day, finally got a chance to read it tonight and it sent me into tears. This is very close to home, as I am just a county over from where this has been all going on. It's a long, but good read. I often forget how messed up the world is, even in my own backyard. It's a long read, but a very good read.

I am not much of an activist myself, but stuff like this is moving and makes me want to change that. Perhaps some day. Maybe it will move some of you to stand up. Stand up for others you see that get pushed down by a often corrupted system.
For those of you struggling with bullies where ever it may be, always try to seek help. LGBTQ Therapist are out there, GSA groups, family, support hot lines, friends. You are more valuable to those around you than you could ever imagine. Don't let others fears and ignorance make choices for you in your life.
Feel free to discuss in the comments below, and share this story.

Trans Enough. (Video!)
Posted 13 years agoI came across this video through a friend, and I see it is posted on the Trans*ition Fund Collective's blog. If you haven't listened to this yet, I really recommend it. He really touches on a very good point about the pressure of not being trans enough. As if to say you are not tarns unless you do x-y-z. I thought it would be worth sharing.
Personally I can relate to some of that pressure he talks about in that video. Being trans is truly an umbrella term that covers all kinds of people who relate in different ways to the opposite genders. It is far more important to be yourself.

Sneaking in some small changes
Posted 13 years agoHey all! Just updating things on the main paged. Cleaned it up a little, and tried to make it a little bit more organized. Addtionally changed the size of the logo to 100x100 (these things are minor but drive me crazy!) and added a little something to it. Refresh if you cannot see it. Hate what I added? Let me know. I am being all sneaky about it. >_>
Also looking for more links related towards male to female transitions. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

I really hope to see this project grow. Looks like a lot of neat stuff already has been posted.

Changes To Come
Posted 13 years agoHello All!
Fiwi here!
A few months ago I came to
bookmark93 offering to take over the community as he did not seem to have a lot of time to maintain this FA community. Today he had given me permission to start managing the site. I feel very honored to be given this opportunity, and to be trusted by
bookmark93. I hope that I do not let him down, or all of you.
So who is
Fiwi? I am a 28 year old trans-woman. I am on hormones, and consider myself a transsexual. I have always been supportive of trans relating furries in my local communities.I have always been willing to discuss, and wanting to help others. You can always find out more about me by looking at my FA page, or asking me!
The future for Transfurs:
I definitely do not want to up root this community and change it into something it shouldn't be. In fact my vision is very focused on the members of this community. That means you. I want to bring more activity to this group with discussions, important subjects, tasteful artwork, and support!
What do YOU have to say? Do you have any ideas or thoughts on something you would like to see in the future for this page? Perhaps more news related to trans communities? Featured trans related artist? Just a few ideas. I am sure you all will have some more, so go a head and post them.
ALSO! Huge shout out to all the many many people who have watched Transfurs and shouted on the page!

mascot: final choice.
Posted 15 years agoi know im a bit late with this but life got a tad hectic for me and i apologize for not finishing up the mascot business sooner.
as it stands i have received NO artwork for any of the options. because of this i am going to choose the mascot myself. if you take issue with my choice please feel free to note me about it.
my choice is: FROG. i will be coming up with a character design and possibly getting a picture done as soon as things calm down for me.
i am still more than happy to accept artwork by others of any of the options or anything trans-related, that is in NO WAY sexual. anything submitted to me will only be submitted to the groups gallery if it is PG.
as usual please note me with any questions, comments, or concerns.
good day.

Mascot part 3
Posted 15 years agoSo the 30th has passed and here is the full list of ideas for a mascot;
Swan
Frog
Hyena
Mantis shrimp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantis_shrimp
Garabaldi fish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garibaldi_%28fish%29
Dolphin
Butterfly
Seahorse
Nothing else will be added to it.
I am still accepting art of any suggestion. I haven't recived any yet but I will accept art until the 12th possibly longer if i'm asked for an extension, key word ASKED do not expect it. Also it would be appriciated if you asked before the 12th.
Remember the animals you choose to draw must be androgynys and colord for trans pride, also it MUST be pg anything else will NOT be accepted.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!
Also I had to write this on an iPod forgive any errors.

mascot part 2
Posted 15 years agoalright! so earlier this week i asked for ideas for a mascot, and here they are!
Swan
Frog
Hyena
Mantis shrimp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantis_shrimp
Garabaldi fish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garibaldi_%28fish%29

So, i think the best way to do this is ill give about a week (until the 30th) and if anyone has any other ideas to be put under consideration you will have that time to come up with them and post them on this journal AND THIS JOURNAL ONLY by the 30th to be added to the list.
After the 30th i will give another, probably 2 weeks to submit any artwork (it can be submitted from now until i set an end date which will be determined by the 30th) of whatever character you want to draw, it has to be on the list. if you submit a character that is not on the list AFTER the 30th it will not be accepted, sorry but the world has deadlines.
the mascot will NOT be determined by the talent of the artwork, or if their is no artwork for a choice, it will still be in the running! But it would be very nice to have some artwork for our little corner of FA. The art is only so people can better visualize what it would look like. please make it look as androgynous as you can and it MUST be PG ONLY.
i have tried to explain this as clearly as i can, but if you have any questions at all ask and i will give you an answer as best i can.
