New Story on Patreon
Posted 5 years agoHey folks,
just giving a heads up, I've tossed a new finished story up on my Patreon.
https://www.patreon.com/posts/36284518
If you don't want to/can't pay 2$ to see it early, I'll be posting it to me galleries sometime next month.
It's a little fantasy short starring my fennec mage Red, who goes on a short journey and meets a strange critter. It's a little more fantasy adventure but there's still some naughty fun in there :3
Enjoy! And Feedback is always appreciated.

2019 nutshell
Posted 6 years agoMy 2019?
Started out stuck in my management job hating it more and more because people are children that can't do the simplest thing without dragging their feet or fighting each other over the most trivial shit.
Then I got a new job with a different contract in the same office for higher pay and no management responsibilities. Way less stress and my savings has managed to jump quite a bit (just recently passed a milestone I have been working towards, in fact) and I really enjoy my job now, no strings attached.
Downside, homelife changed & my youngest sister moved back in, trading her kids back and forth with her now ex-husband so my peace and quiet is more limited and a bit randomized at home, not to mention my sister keeps getting smart gadgets my shit internet doesn't have the bandwidth for (and don't think she realized hubby had been shelling out a pretty penny for a high speed connection)
Healthwise, my weight loss stalled out. I still managed to lose nearly 20 lbs from a high of 250 so very proud of myself for that and trying to push below 230 to at least get back to my normal college weight
Have also discovered my frequent congestion issue is due to acid reflux so last few months I've been working on getting that under control but I'm sleeping much better now and figuring out my diet a little better to help that (though I've been bad the last couple of months eating sweets and drinking soda, so at least one resolution is cutting back on that)
Writing-wise, my output has dropped a chunk, for a few factors (most named above) but I'm still trying to get back to writing more regularly and the patreon I started at least gives me a monthly deadline to work around so I'm at least producing some kind of practice work.
I got published in a book finally after a lengthy delay! Super proud of that still and I want to push myself to do more and get more out there. I still have some projects I'd like to work on more.
The responses to some of my latest stuff has been super encouraging and I want to thank everyone that reads my stuff and offers feedback. I still have little sense of how good my stuff is or if my ideas are worthwhile but you folks keep telling me you like it and asking for more
So why stop now?
Also commissioning things a little more than I used to, new job has offered more disposable income, it's kind of nice getting to treat myself and indulge in some more finished pieces with multiple characters and I'm still totally stoked by all the amazing talent I'm witness to and get to support, very thankful for all the amazing artists I know.
I've gotten more or less used to my new smartphone and I've been very happy with it and the increased utility it offers, more so now that I'm not limited by a monthly data cap (recently got to swap to a better plan). It's not great for writing, I do miss my thumb keyboard from my old flip phone but getting to keep in touch with friends more and having regular access to sites and services is an okay compromise (plus I've managed to work a bit on it)
Socially, I still struggle a bit. I feel Twitter has become a better outlet for me getting to interact with acquaintances like artists and writers and fans etc. I still have my usual up and down issues with folks, still feel needy for attention at times & still have troubles with regular playmates
But that's part for the course for most online relationships so yeah, can't complain too much and it's more than I get locally, where I mostly am either at work or home, only local friend left I haven't hung out with in years. I've drifted from some folks, but I've also met new friends and reconnected with old here and there so I don't feel I'm in too bad a place.
Gaming wise, still playing my Mainstays and have dabbled a bit with FF14. Been really loving Dragon Quest 11 and was thrilled to get the latest shovel Knight campaign. Still really jazzed at the amount of games coming out that tickle a lot of my sensibilities and tastes. Really loved Bloodstained, for example and am excited for Zangetsu and whoever the other character will be. Still have my sights on Hollow Knight: Silksong , hoping it drops in 2020.
I haven't been much for movies or shows lately, End Game was distinctly okay but a bit unsatisfying for me, I've yet to see star Wars but my enthusiasm for it has been lukewarm. Was kind of glad to see Game of Thrones crash and burn, though I'm waiting on Winds of Winter.
So yeah. That's about what I recollect of 2019. A couple bright spots, some cons, and a lot of middling stuff.

I'm sure a lot of you will find this interesting. I watched the movie years ago when I happened to find it at a rental store.
It's... interesting. Kind of furry. The animation is gorgeous in a lot of scenes. The music is... not. I mean, it's well done music, particularly the villain songs, the 'good song' she sings though is... I feel like they picked the wrong song for the feel and tone of the scenes XD Still, it's an interesting artifact to check out

hey all. Just dropping a lil ad. GoG is offering Hollow Knight half off. Highly highly recommend nabbing it. It's already ridiculously cheap at 15$ but at 7.50 it's an absolute steal, the game is just massive, tight gameplay and absolutely lovely art style. Can't recommend it enough!

Hey guys, just dropping a link.
K-9, probably best known for Circles has been working on a new lil personal project, a cute little Sci Fi story with augmented critters and cyborgs. Worth tossing a few bucks for! :)

Posted 6 years agoAnthrocon 2019
Quick and dirty:
Roomed with
Kurst and
Trejaan
had a ton of fun, saw and got to hang out with some very good friends including
Cirrus
Rolandguiscard
Whiteshadowhare
Korak_sinatra and
Talonsaurn
Got some fab art from
Cooner
Gideon and
lizardbeth and bought a bunch of books and pins and such.
The book with my story was at the con, though limited supply so I'll have to wait to get my contributor copy. No biggie! Still exciting and a friend bought it and had me sign ^^
Wednesday -Travel day
Woke up at 2 30 (went to bed about midnight) got dressed and put my luggage in the car and got going. No real delays, traffic not too horrible even on the worst part of the highway (people still drive like idiots).
Got to the airport with tons of time. Checked luggage and got through security with no issue. No good looking options for breakfast so waited for my layover.
Honestly slept through the first flight. Remember taking off then waking up about 10 minutes before landing.
Phoenix was crazy busy. People everywhere lots of planes fully booked. Looked around for any decent looking food but places were either really busy or didn't have anything on offer, settled for a bag of chips and some orange juice. Also picked up some cactus candy, have heard of it for years but never tried it mostly due to shipping costs. Got a small box to bring home to grandma and a piece for myself to try. Pretty good! Soft, floral, sweet.
Managed a little sleep the first hour, now chilling out.
Got into Pittsburgh on time. Got my luggage and got on my shuttle with little issue. Got up to my room pretty quick, unloaded luggage and talked food options with roomies. We took a small walk, then decided since Spiderman Far From Home had come out, we'd do dinner and the movie.
Short drive in roommates car, we found a PF Chang's for dinner beside the AMC.
Food was decent. Every time I go to Pittsburgh some wait staff warns me about how hot a dish can be. I got Dynamite shrimp and a lobster/shrimp rice dish. Both very tasty, neither very hot (hot for California is uhm, a fair bit hotter)
Meal done we got to the theater, some front row seats. Think I prefer a little further back. Still, it's a fantastic movie, loved it to pieces.
Back to the hotel we crashed out.
Thursday
Unsurprisingly we slept in till 11. We hit Pizza Parma for lunch (formerly Fernando's) and then mostly hung out til registration and they did dealer set up. I hung out, snapped pics. The fireworks show was pushed to Sunday due to weather.
Went to Bill's Burgers in the Westin lobby for dinner, had some very tasty chili and jalapeno hush puppies with a bloody Mary.
Went up and met Whiteshadow Hare and his husband for a nice chat. ^^
Friday
Got up a bit early, took my time getting up and went to get breakfast with Cirrus. We'd hoped to get breakfast from the Penn City Grill but they didn't seem to be open. A little walk took us to 'Joe and Pie', a busy little place but not bad. Had a bacon omelette with toast, potatoes, and tea. It was decent, but not great (I'll never trust any place that uses a slice of American on an omelette)
The dealer's den opened so I hit it up, taking advantage of my sponsor early access. Dropped my sketchbooks off with Gideon, Cooner, and Lizardbeth while scoping the other dealers out and saying hi to folks I knew.
Not too much Zootopia goodies this year. Lots of Aggretsuko, largely due to Haida's voice actor being a guest of honor (he seemed to be having a good time) I'm happy to see a lot more dealers selling enamel pins, added a good number to my collection over the weekend and got some as gifts for a couple friends and my oldest niece.
Dinner I went to a nice grill with Roland near his hotel, a little bit down the highway. We hung out for a bit before returning to the con just in time for me to attend the art show reception courtesy of my roommate Kurst. It was nice and well catered, though by then I was a fair bit stuffed and retired to the room afterward.
Saturday
Saturday I chilled out in bed a little bit, when i got going I went down and just grabbed a bagel from Starbucks. I picked up my sketches I'd dropped off yesterday and they all came out -amazing-. I've been kind of commissioning a lot and there weren't alot of other artists I really felt I -had- to get at the con so that was about it for commissionining stuff though I got a nice sketch from Talonsaurn too.
I ended up watching my roommates dealer table while they went to the supersponsor luncheon. Then I went and just nabbed pizza with Leo. It happened another friend was hungry for something so I picked him up a sandwich and we hung out for a bit. I popped down to the dealers den and wandered a bit. Around dinner time I met up with Korak and his boyfriend and we went to dinner. It was a slight comedy of errors as the Thai place they wanted was closed for the holiday weekend, as was the back up Thai place just a couple blocks down, so we ended up at a chinese place just a little further down. Pretty good stuff!
After dinner we hung out a bit longer then they dropped me back at the hotel. I wandered a little before hunting around for food with Cirrus. We ended up at the subway for a sandwich (I got milk and a cookie <3) the rest of the night is a bit fuzzy
Sunday
Honestly a bit of a blur at this point since I'm just shy of a week out from it.
Had lunch one more time at Pizza Parma, since I had a free coupon from my roommates. The dealer's den closes early on Sunday to allow dealers time to break their tables down and get it loaded, so I took the time wandering up and down the aisles checking out last minute swag buys, got a few books and several more pins (I ended up with about 13 total, 2 I gave to friends, 1 I got from being a sponsor) Went to Starbucks with Cirrus to nab a lil goodie, then ended up catching Whiteshadowhare and his husband as they were leaving.
I said goodbye to a few folks since they were leaving after the den closed up. Then I scooted up to my room to relax and clean up my luggage and goodies and sort them a bit to make it easier for traveling back come Monday. My roommates got their table all packed and car set so we had a very nice dinner at Tenpenny, the bar near the hotel with some very good food. had a nice fruity prosecco cocktail and some really fantastic caprese flatbread, with an amazing shrimp cajun alfredo pasta for the main course and a pretty tasty vanilla cheesecake for dessert (though I was sad to see they didn't have a dessert menu, just a choice of cheesecakes. Still good though)
Spent the evening with my roommates and popped down to check out the sunday closer dance and zoo, saying bye to a couple other folks that wandered down too. Then back to the room to finish packing and got to check out my roommates switch a bit, testing out Hollow Knight (only ever played on PC, controls pretty nice!) and then Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Then we retired to bed.
Monday
I got going pretty early as my shuttle to the airport gave me a wide cushion of time to get to the airport and through security. Curiously it wasn't all that busy coming off a big holiday weekend. I ended up having breakfast at TGI Fridays, just some eggs and toast and sausage, all pretty good. Waited a bit for my flight and wrote some of this report on my phone.
My flights returning were a fair bit easier. A 3 hour flight to Denver with a couple hour layover then a 2 hour flight to Ontario. Much much easier than the 4 hour flight going up. I got into California okay and drove the 2 1/2 some hours back home.
Family was happy to see me, I gave the kids the treats I'd gotten (my youngest niece got a cactus candy sucker from arizona, my oldest neice got a couple pins) My room was a little disheveled from the quake but nothing broken and permanently damaged so I spent the rest of the evening picking things up.
All in all a very good con. Lots of friends, a lot of very good meals, and plenty of fun art and goodies for me to nab ^^

Hometown Quakes - I'm okay!
Posted 6 years agoHey all,
For those following the news, those big quakes hitting SoCal right now are centered right by my hometown, Ridgecrest.
I'm okay! I'm out in Pittsburgh this weekend for AC. Been checking in with friends and family when I can, they're all okay, a few fallen items broke but no major damage to anything or anyone.
Just not sure what I'm coming home to Monday, so going to be interesting! Will update if anything serious happens

Feeling kind of serious tonight. I'm sorry I haven't been saying much or posting much lately. Quite a bit on my mind lately and a lot going on that it's been kind of a big distraction from doing much creative stuff, plus I'm sort of waiting on a few commissions to roll in.
So, This weekend marks 5 years since I lost one of my best friends.
Darkzel passed away after an accident, I found out about a week later when a mutual acquaintance and later his mother reached out. I still think about him from time to time, miss him quite a bit.
Also have the fortune of having my birthday on Mother's Day this year. Happens every few years. Lost mom 3 years ago.
This weekend I took my grandmother and niece to a little butterfly memorial ceremony the local hospital runs to raise money for its hospice program. Gran always likes to do it, gets a butterfly for mom and my grandad, whom we lost the same year Zel passed. It was a nice ceremony, gran had a good time.
It's also been a year since I outed my 'secret' character. I chose to do this because I broke someone's trust, someone I cared about quite a bit but I did a very stupid selfish thing and chances are I'll never get to talk to them again. Sometimes you have to live with the consequences, there's no undoing some things.
I've had friends go through some very hard times lately too. One lost his brother suddenly, worse it was after a bit of hope he may recover. Another lost his home due to an apartment fire. I had my own little health scare recently, still looking into it but I think I'm okay for the most part.
So, why bring this all up? Life is short. The world can be a hard, terrible place. What makes it bearable is having people, friends, family, people you love and can be strong for each other. Don't take them for granted. I've met all of my best friends through this fandom, I'm still meeting new friends and I'm thankful for all the ones that have stayed with me all these years and I'm thankful for the folks that still stick around here. If I didn't have my friends, I'd be completely lost.
Let them know you love them. Let them know you care about them and appreciate them. Don't hurt them. Don't break their trust. You never know when the last time you talk to someone may well be, the -last- time you get to talk to them. Life is too short to be doing stupid things and hurting each other. Be kind to one another, support each other, help people. It makes the world a little better. We may not know when we may lose someone, we can at least make sure they know someone loves them.
Anyway I didn't want to just make this one big dwelling on all the bad things. I started a new job last month, it's been a really big quality of life upgrade, better pay, seem to be better benefits, a lot less stress and something I legitimately enjoy doing, it's been a very nice change. I'm hoping once everything settles I can get back to writing more regularly, home life has become a bit more complicated but I'm dealing.
So yeah. Just some thoughts and goings on. Hope all of you are well. Hang in there, be good to each other.
