It's time for another happy little poll here at TrekFurs!
A while back, you may recall, we asked what your favourite Star Trek series was. And while our favourite space epic has a long and rich history on the small screen, it'd be remiss of us to forget the silver-screen entries into the saga, the cinematic adventures that bridged the gap between TOS and TNG, and continue to keep the tale going after ENT.

So! Which of the eleven movies gets your vote as the best of the lot? Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, First Contact? Do you hold to the belief of the odd-numbers curse, or do you reject Tim Bisley's philosophy in that regard? Do you favour J. J. Abrams' recent reboot, or do you belong to the old guard of classic Trek? Heck, we'll even take votes for Galaxy Quest if you're that way inclined!

It's that time of year once again, so merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Ha'Mara and a happy New Year to you all!

"To boldy go where no man has before" is a phrase that I'm sure all of us here at TrekFurs are quite familiar with. Among the human race there are a gifted handful of people whose actions have truly embodied these words, and sadly on August 25th, we lost one of the most prominent. Neil Alden Armstrong, Naval aviator, test pilot and first man on the Moon, has passed away.
I'm sure I'm not alone in offering my deepest sympathy to his friends and family. Rest in peace, Neil.

A fellow TrekFur known as Riley Wolff is on the way to creating "the Star Furderation" a furry/furry-friendly fleet within the online boldly-going simulator Star Trek Online! The group is aimed at being a "well-organized yet laid-back" all-furry fleet, although fandom-friendly non-furs are allowed admission provided they don't cause any drama.

The fleet itself wll be a Federation fleet (as implied by the name), and the Caitian race is not required. It will be divided into a number of task groups each dedicated to things like PvP, PvE, leveling, crafting, and the like.
For those of you who don't already own a copy of ST: O but would like to get in on this, it may be worth noting that Steam are currently offering a half-price sale on it, and will be until January 2nd: http://store.steampowered.com/app/901222/
Purchasing this package will allow you thirty days of free play and 500 Cryptic points, which will allow new recruits to buy add-ons within the game. Also, the game itself will reportedly become free-to-play on January 17th!

Edit: Some more information regarding the free-to-play switchover, from Riley:
"Touching up here, the 500 Cryptic points has been confirmed to new guys I've already gotten into the game. Also, to play, even though you do have the 30 days, you MUST subscribe and use a credit card or paypal. HOWEVER, it WILL NOT charge your account until those 30 days are over. The period of time til the launch of ST:O F2P will be easily covered by the 30 days. You can just subscribe, log in tha launcher and simply cancel the subscription afterwards. No charge."

Edit 2: Wrath of Khan: More from Rear Admiral Wolff: "I just went to STO's main site, and for players who were subscribed previously but canceled, EVEN THE FREE MONTH, will be able to play the game as if it were F2P starting Jan 5.

Edit 4: As you'll likely already have figured out, Star Trek Online is now free to play! So, for those of you who like online gaming as well as Star Trek and furries but lack funds for monthly MMO bills, money is no longer an obstacle!

Meanwhile, Jonathan Archer has a bit of a mope since no-one loves him. Poor guy.

A person who goes by the name of  firefox1234 is currently running a survey regarding potential production of plushie ptribbles, and would doubtless appreciate input from Trekkies like you!

Really, who wouldn't want their own tribble? You can cuddle them, you can plant a tri-cobalt deivce in one and blow up the Starfleet captain of your choice, you can even wear them on your head!

Sorry, this isn't Trek-related, but I thought it might be an idea to put a warning about this in place.

If someone in your watchlist posts a journal that ony says "Click here, it'll explain what I'm talking about", DO NOT click there. I'm not certain if this simply affects your FA account or your computer as well, but either way I'm sure you'd like to avoid such infection.

Watch out for single-sentence journals linking to "astronauts [dot] freeiz [dot] com [slash] coolbeans" and titles like "Fine, why should I care?" and sometihng about the Bebop crew being high.

Today, the famous actor who played Captain James Tiberius Kirk now turns 80 today!
