General | Posted 8 years agoSo I have a new sona, as some of you may have noticed. Both Advent and Kipp are new to the party and they don't have much art at all, and I really want to get something cool for each of them! Specifically, I'm looking for two types of art for them: cutesy, mainly for Kipp, and artists who are capable of desktop background pieces/are willing to try to make them. I have a background of Trexler, but I need one for my other boys because some days I feel more like Advent and some days I feel more like Kipp.
If you guys have any suggestions at all, I would greatly appreciate them!

SPOTTY OCELOTS
General | Posted 8 years agoSo I have kind of been putting this off but... I'm sort of curious and now I want to ask. Trexler does not have some markings that are associated with ocelots, and I'm wondering if I should change up his spots (only on his sides and back, his front is actually still pretty accurate with spot markings). His sides and back aren't always showing but when they do sometimes it feels like I'm not looking at an ocelot, or at least it's not immediately apparent that I am.
Comment Yea/Nay or give a reason please! Looking for feedback as to why I should/shouldn't do it :D

Post-Anthrocon Report

Just got back from Anthrocon and honestly, I think this one might've been the best I've been to. I blew a nice chunk of money (which was expected, so not to worry) and got a couple awesome badges and some neat swag like shirts and the full sized 5' by 3' Anthrocon flag! Grabbed some stickers as well for my laptop, which might show up in my scraps soon~
As I get back into the swing of things, I realize that this will be my last con for a while. I'm going to end up studying abroad in 日本 (Japan) and that will be taking place from around April 2nd, 2018 to July 27th, 2018. This means that Anthrocon 18 is off the table. I was planning on attending FAU this year as well, but it falls on move-in day for my college so another conflict there. I may attempt to make it to TFF or MFF depending on dates but the chances I make either of them is around 1%, simply because of when they *usually* fall. But this stuff isn't super important, or at least not as important as the next paragraph.
I have re-decided my fursuit maker. I am currently saving a bit each month for
sunnyvalleycreations, because their suits are absolutely the bomb and they have the second best digitigrade option I have seen from ANY makers. A link to the refsheet I have for them can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/24026616/ . Their quality also seems to be at least decent, if not good. I need to meet more suiters with suits from them to see if this holds true, but I think it will. I also am thinking about having Trex sport a nice UV purple harness and potentially a collar or bandanna or scarf or something around the neck. If you all want to suggest something, feel free to, but don't feel obligated!
And then, there's Advent. He is my unused deer character, whom I would love to turn into a fursuit, but unfortunately am probably not going to anytime in the near future for a couple reasons:
1.) There seems to be a massive influx of deer into the fursuiting world, along with birbs. This isn't really a problem, but I'm afraid makers will either tire of making deer or make them cookie-cutter style, something I do NOT want under any circumstances
2.) Money is a huge problem, as I am a full-time college student, meaning most of my cash is going towards school. Sure, I'll still get commissions with people but not at a super fast rate. Trexler alone will run me a sizable bit of money because of his spots, and that's okay. But I cannot afford two awesome suits, at least, not for a while.
3.) Suiting time. I am already not really convinced getting Trexler made into a suit will be worth it, as he is going to be worn probably twice a year, if that (unless I can make it to other cons, which is doubtful atm. See above). If I had two suits (which I would LOVE), I don't know what I would do with one while the other was being used. I'd feel kind of bad, actually ^^;
4.) Misrecognition, which I am afraid of. I am both Advent and Trexler, yes, but I have had Trexler since the beginning of my time in this fandom (granted, he's changed a lot over the years, but he's still my #1). Advent was finished up in the spring of this year, and I'm still making modifications to him, so he's not technically complete, but I feel I have most of the important groundwork laid out for him.
If you want to rebut any of my points you can, because I am curious to see what other people think. This is just my opinion and I can be swayed based on valid arguments.
Anyway, I think that wraps things up here. Phew! Congrats getting to the end of this one, I know it's kind of longer than my usual journals, but this one had a bit more thought put into it than those. Hope you enjoyed, and if I found you at Anthrocon, hi!

I've had some ideas for recent pieces, and I need to know if there are any artists out there that absolutely excel at glowing elements. Many artists can do them well, but I'm looking for suggestions on someone who either specializes in it or does it incredibly frequently. It is a single in the Westin and I can take one more person, maybe two if the second person brings another way to sleep such as an inflatable mattress. The dates are for the length of the con so you won't need to find another place to stay. I don't know how many people even noticed I wasn't being very active on here for a while now, but I have been MIA from FA in the terms of artwork, both by me and of me. I promise there is a good reason! Right now I have a pretty good amount specifically saved for the fandom, but instead of getting artwork, I have decided to challenge myself to save up for a fursuit, which I hope to have completed by
kilcodocostumes when they open.
When I was at Further Confusion in January for my birthday,
syber was a GOH and I was able to ask her about suiting and what makers she recommended for a beginner like myself. Originally my ambitions were for a $4000 suit that was my favorite combo of style and external looks, but I listened to Syber when she recommended I not leap right into that particular maker (she loves the maker, she just said they were 100% not for someone just starting out because of the internal complexity and it would be nearly impossible to get into and out of it by myself). She highly recommended Kilcodo, who happened to walk into the room about 5 seconds after her name was said.
After checking out her site, gallery, and prices, I was amazed and resolved that I would try my best to save every bit I could so that I could hopefully make it into the next commission window. So, to give myself less temptations for spending money, I haven't really been interacting on FA so that I don't spend money on the artists I love ;w; I still check posts and comment occasionally, but mostly it's just clearing out journals/submissions after I see them. I have many plans for commissions from cool people like

, and several commission ideas stored in a safe place! They will happen, rest assured, but it will be some time before I get them due to my situation :3

If you want to hang out that's totally cool with me, I will try to meet as many people as possible and say hi and give you hugs n' stuff =3

It's been rough, especially through the first year of college, but I'm making it all work out ^^

I really haven't posted a journal in... like, 4 months at this point? Around that time, I think. Either way, I really need to be more active on my profile here. I just haven't had the time to post, plus I haven't really been drawing recently because of school commitments.
BUT SOON THAT WILL CHANGE!
I've tried getting some art done, and I do have some pieces completed that I just haven't been able to upload (read: too busy). Soon they'll make their way onto the site C: I also hope to commission more art in the future, but that's simply an issue of getting physical money into a form where it's online. For now, I have only a few minor commissions planned and one major one, and then it's saving for something soooooooooper seeeeeeecrit :D
ALSO, main point of this journal is that I have a room for Anthrocon 2016! I had a roommate planned, but they bailed, so now I'm happy to take anyone that needs a roommate for the convention! If you know anyone that's looking, or you're looking yourself, you can send me a note on here.

Update on Status

Since I am in college, and taking both Chemistry and Biology, I am now forced to write some sciencey papers! And so, for the past week, I have been trying to balance two papers, working for Inkedfur, AND the rest of my classes! So now that this hellish week is almost over, hopefully I can work out the rest of the submissions from Inkedfur and get to drawing again!

Telegram YCH Stickers

So I had a really great idea, and to avoid having people lose out on it I thought I'd explain what the game plan is for now.
Recently, two awesome furs convinced me to get a Telegram, and I'm pretty happy with how that's turned out! That being said, I noticed some artists had made a sticker pack for the app, and I was wondering if you guys might want to do something like that! Every other day I could put out a YCH for a certain emoticon, and there would probably be around 30 in total. Whoever likes the emoticon can bid on it! Some of the images I have are definitely not going to be final, since I sketched about 15 a day, the quality of some got noticeably worse as time went on. Each YCH would be put into the sticker pack and be fully colored. You can choose to purchase more than one but I'd rather no go above, let's put a tentative cap on 4 per person, just so you don't basically take over the sticker pack. However, if you're interested in me making one special for you (let's say of you and your mate) then you can note me and I can talk about pricing, amount of stickers, etc.
Anyhoo, that's the current situation. I'm always open for default commissions if anyone is interested, and those take priority. Soon I will be getting a tutoring job, and just today I enrolled in a Budo Taijutsu class because, hey, free martial arts class!

Commissions and Other Stoof

I've updated commission types in the "commission info" tab on my profile. If you're interested, head over there! So far there are only 4 options, but I hope to make it 6 when I get better at shading and/or adult material (raincheck on the latter, I don't know how I'd understand that kind of anatomy while surrounded by students)
Speaking of students, let's talk schedules!
Since I'm a full-time college student, I have a schedule of when I'm available to chat or reply to notes, and it is as follows:
Mon+Wed: 8am-9am: Biology class, 9am-11am: Free time (usually working on bio coursework), 11am-12pm: Chemistry class, and after that I'm tentatively free for the remainder of the day
Tues: 8:30am-10am: African American and Africana Studies, 10am-11:30am: Common Intellectual Experience, and after that I am free for the day
Wed, see above.
Thurs: Tues: 8:30am-10am: African American and Africana Studies, 10am-11:30am: Common Intellectual Experience, free until 1:30pm-4pm, which is when I have a Chemistry lab, and then I am free

What's a Familiar? (Long read, but very cool)
General | Posted 10 years agoHello all! I'm here to talk about the "Familiar" species that all of my characters are based off of! Please read below for the short synopsis, and feel free to comment if you like the species, see a flaw, or think I'm not being original with its creation.
Familiars are an anomaly from a species perspective, being more of a type of sub-species rather than its own standalone. They don't quite have a form, and could be considered, for all intents and purposes, a sentient humanoid energy source capable of creating its bodily shell. A familiar will always take on another animal's form and usually inherit the traits of that animal. Every familiar has a creator; their creators are all unknown as of late. However, as all creators do, there is a sort of "signature" left on their works, specifically left right over where the heart would be located. This is called the Familiar Brand, and it's a signature of the creator of that familiar. Some familiars have similar brands, and some may be unique.
Familiars are very special in the fact that they cannot "die" in the traditional sense. Stab one in the heart and the following will occur: the familiar will fall down, most likely bleeding (they do have blood, like whatever species they have taken the shape of!), and their body will be enveloped in a glow the color of whatever color their familiar brand is. They will proceed to get up as the energy inside their beings recreates their bodies to a working form, almost like restoring a file on a computer from before it become corrupted or deleted. Their new body will re-manifest at a safe spot around the place where they were "killed", and they will retain memories of the incident. Thus, familiars can almost live forever, though you can incapacitate them for extended period of time by inflicting many non-lethal injuries that impair movement.
All familiars have a special trait associated with them, as sort of a gift given to them by their creators. When they first gain consciousness after being "born" they are made aware of their gift. Some may have the ability to, in Trexler's case, imperfectly mimic objects (i.e. He can become any object the same size or smaller than he is, but his familiar brand will always be visible, so you will know it's him). Others may have other powers that are deemed by their creators. Familiars have an intrinsic resistance to whatever their gift may be. Going back to Trexler, because he can change objects (they must be inanimate) he has a heightened sense to lying or understanding when one isn't telling the truth, which is why he hates liars so much.
Familiars, being energy, don't really have any way to sexually reproduce. Thus, they are asexual as they are created, and when they first mimic a species they will have no genitals. They can, however, create sexual reproductive organs, and depending on how they feel or have lived, they may choose one for life, change daily or weekly, or even choose to keep themselves without genitals. However, all are gendered when they are created, and must either be male or female. Because of the above ability, they do not need to form parts that go with their gender, so we could see a male with female parts (as in Hex's case). The sexual reproductive organs formed by familiars cannot produce children in any capacity, and a male's climax will result in a fluid that glows the color of their familiar brand. This is thought to be the result of them transferring some of their being into their partner. While they cannot create a child on their own, if a male is with a female of another species that is already pregnant, the non-death and gift abilities have a chance of being passed onto the already fertilized child. This isn't guaranteed though.
That's a familiar! I hope it's inspired some of you guys, and hopefully you found it interesting! The familiar species is an open one for the time being, but I request that if you're going to create one you talk to me first about the familiar brand and let me help you with it, because they can be tricky to form at first and all of them follow a similar "guide" on how to create them, since they all have to look like a similar style.

Going away to college

There comes a time in a young ocelot's life when he must venture off and leave the nest; now is that time. I'm heading up to college in... well, 15 minutes after I post this (don't worry, I'll be on mobile!) My college is Ursinus College, which is located in Collegeville, PA. You guys can communicate and meet up with me if you want! Just drop me a note or a message on steam or twitter or kik or skype!
Ursinus College offers a great Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program that I intend to major in! Biology has been my thing for some time now, and I'm looking forward to the work in this field! Hopefully I have enough time to doodle for you guys, since I do stream from time to time! Pixel art will still be open as always, so that's there.
Fun fact: Ursinus College was the undergraduate school of none-other than Uncle Kage himself!
