TarPaw Furmeet May 19-21!!!!
General | Posted 8 years agoJust wanted to post a reminder and to make sure everybody is ready. Tarpaw Furmeet is coming up next weekend in Raleigh. This is the second event, the first last fall was a roaring success. If it continues to be successful this will be the launching pad for having a full-blown furry con in North Carolina.
Next weekend will be another "mini-con type party" and revenue and attendance records will be used to get a con started. If you've ever wanted to see a con in NC please please show this event some support so we can make a con in NC a reality.
May 19-21st, 2017
Tickets and more information can be found at http://www.tarpawfurmeet.com
I'm so excited and ready for a fun weekend of partying, gaming, dancing, drinking, pizza, and much more with friends. I hope to see you all there!

"For years, I've been hearing people ask for a con in the area. Tarpaw Furmeet is the plan to make that event happen.
To build a con, you have to have an existing base of people to go to it and help it grow--a base of attendees. Further Confusion, Midwest Furfest, and (then Albany) Anthrocon all started this way. Further Confusion sprung from the Bay Area furs who saw an opportunity for an event when Confurence left its established time and place in 1999. Midwest Furfest's base grew out of Duckcon's furry track in the late 90s. Albany Anthrocon grew out of a series of hotel parties put on by Roger Wilbur in the 90s. Every con grows from an existing seed base.
The fragmented nature of the North Carolina groups has made amassing this critical mass this difficult to do. Since I moved to Raleigh in 2009, I've seen no less than three attempts at starting cons in the region--none of which came to fruition. Thus, I'm taking a "back to basics" approach, looking at what made strong events succeed.
TL;DR: Let's have a furry party. :)
I've booked the hall, I've booked a DJ, I've talked to pizza places. I'm putting the event structure in place. It's time to see if enough people will attend. I've set the bar for 125. If we get that, I'll put on another party in the spring. If that party meets its goal, I'll put on a third. If the third one succeeds (in other words, we've built a base of consistent attendees up to think bigger), it'll be time to build the board of directors, put together the paperwork, and sign a hotel contract for a multi-day con.
...but it all begins with this first event.
So join us in Raleigh in four weeks for a night of furries and fun that we hope will grow into a regional con by 2018! Hope to see everyone there!"
Please buy your tickets today, mark your calendars and schedule time off, so we can make this happen! So many of us want a convention here and talk about it, but it won't happen without putting the effort in. We can make a Carolina fur con a reality within the next couple years! The TarPaw parties are a start.

redneckfur here, checking in.
I see we've had some new watchers! Glad to have you all! I hope you've all signed up on our meetup.com page: http://www.meetup.com/furries-319/
And if you're on facebook, you can also keep up with us there! :http://www.facebook.com/groups/178063592282268/
While I'm going to make more effort to keep this page active, its mostly used as a way to help various furries in central North Carolina identify each other here FA.
Recently, we had a meet at Atomic Empire, in Durham North Carolina! It was a great, furry friendly venue. Atomic Empire is a gaming and comic store, and caters to a wide variety of tastes. One of the employee's there is a furry, and the whole staff is furry friendly. We will be returning to this location more and more often!
If you have any suggestions for future meets, please suggest them! We're always up for new ideas!.

Feb's Meetup... Museum of Narual History!
General | Posted 14 years agoNext month's meet will be a trip to the Museum of Natural History.
((crossposted from the meetup site))
Let's get some learnin' on! With the chills of February, let's stay indoors while sill looking at cool animals and awesome natural science at the Museum of Natural History in downtown Raleigh.
We'll start the meetup at the food court of Cary Town Center, around 1pm. (Why Cary? It's more open and easier to park at than Crabtree.) Grab a light lunch if you like (trust us on the "light" part, you'll see why in a bit!), and between 1:45 and 2pm we'll carpool to the museum. We'll stay there til about 5pm, which is when they kick everyone out... but the meetup won't be over yet!
Back in Cary, let's all gather at the nearby Crazy Fire Mongolian Grill for an early dinner after! It's all-you-can-eat, cooked-before-your-eyes deliciousness. Once we've had our fill, we'll return to the mall so folks can get their vehicles again and we'll part ways.
Museum of Natural History
11 West Jones St. Raleigh, NC
Crazy Fire Mongolian Grill
1270 Buck Jones Road, Cary NC
Note, generally ears and tails are welcome at the museum, but please, no fursuiting at this venue. Also, there is no admission charge to go to the museum.

Today's meet was a huge sucess!
General | Posted 14 years agowe had about 45 furs come to todays cookout, with at least 10 fursuiters!
Great turnout, good food, and no drama! All things that make the triangle furs great!
I,
am really pleased to see more and more furs from the Greensboro Furs, Carolina Furs, and Charlotte Furs groups come to our meets.
In the end, we're just one really big, happy, fuzzy, furry family.
In the future, I'm going to work harder to keep this page updated!

Coming up on May 21st, CCI meet!
General | Posted 14 years agoMany of you know CCI... They're the charity at FWA each year.
Well, it just happens so that CCI is local! And several times a year, we visit.
Next visit is May 21st, at 1pm. We'll be meeting up at the Streets of Southpoint Mall, in Durham, NC. You'll find us in the food court. Once everyone is there, we'll be heading out to Mebane (approx. 45 miniute drive) to see the wild animals at CCI.
Notes... just follow all the rules that CCI's volunteers give you. Its for your safety, and the safety of the animals.
Considering an exotic pet? Before you do that, let the folks at CCI tell you why thats a BAD idea. Most of their animals are rescued exotic pets.
So come on out, and have some fun with us!
