Why does it feel like I have to make one of these journals at least once a year? Does this ever stop?
Lately, things have been a little tougher to deal with than usual.

A rundown of the issues:

Health:
Since the beginning of September, I've been having fairly significant difficulties breathing, with my asthma and such. As some of you know, I had a few medical conditions that make it impossible for me to work a normal, standard job, which is why I do commissions. Lately, my Interstitial Cystitis has gotten worse. I suspected my asthma medication of being the cause, because I researched and found some correlation between the two. So, in an effort to remedy the situation, I asked my doctor about getting off of that medication. So I did, and he put me on something else. That was at the beginning of September. About a week after stopping the original medication and starting the new however, I started experiencing worsening breathing issues. I assumed that these were withdrawal symptoms, since the former medication was a steroid.

However, my symptoms did not improve. Over the next three weeks, they got worse, to the point where I was waking up multiple times a night to use my rescue inhaler, and using it every 4 hours just to get by. Concerned, I researched again, and started looking for a possible cause to what I was now experiencing, since my new medication should have had it under control. One night, it got so bad that I nearly went to emergency during that time. I called an emergency health line provided by my insurance for advise, and they told me based on my symptoms that I should be okay for the night, but to call my doctor and go back in asap. So I went back to my doctor the following day. I asked him if it was possible that I had an infection because my throat felt incredibly tight. My doctor listened to my lungs and said they sounded clear, and simply told me to take Robitussin or Mucinex, and referred me to a Pulmologist (lung specialist) to have further testing done on my lungs. I also started taking my first medication again, wondering if the steroids would help, which was agreed upon by my doctor, until we can find out what's going on.

I went through a bottle of robitussin in 2 days (following proper dosage instructions), which seemed to help a little bit, but not enough. Two days later, I had gone through another bottle, which wasn't enough, and we switched to Mucinex. After two or three tablets of that, it became very clear to me that I do not have an infection- I have no mucus, so the medications aren't doing anything. I finally, reluctantly wondered if it could be caused by the new medication i'm on, causing some kind of tightness, like an allergic reaction. So I stopped taking that...

Now? Now I'm back on my original meds, improving very (VERY) slowly, but still having trouble breathing a few times a day.
This is normally where I would schedule my lung tests, to see what's wrong with them.

Entre, the second issue.

Vehicle:
Less than a year ago, I was forced to sell my own car because the transmission went out on it, and it was no longer worth the amount of money I had spent trying to get it repaired. It was too old, and we couldn't drive it. So that was scrapped. That left us with one car, my husband's car.

Last sunday, my husband was involved in an accident. It had just started raining. In Indiana, it is already getting cold, so the slick road had turned into ice. My husband was approaching a red light on a downhill and was stopping behind someone already stopped there, when the tires slid, and he rear ended the person in front of him. Their car was more or less fine. Ours? Not so much. The hood was dented in, the grill smashed, and it was unclear if the radiator was damaged or not. He was able to drive it home, luckily.

He needs that car to get to work, so later that day, he test drove it, and it seemed to do fine so long as he was careful with it. He decided to take that day off from work to try and assess the damage further. The next day, he decided to try and go to work using surface streets, taking it slow. Half way there, it overheated (with almost no indication from the heat meter- it spiked up at the last second, implying that something else is wrong with the car too), and he had to have it towed home. He took an Uber to work, and got a ride home from a coworker. Last night, he took an Uber to and from work. Now here we are. He doesn't have work again until sunday, but we absolutely don't have money for him to keep taking uber to work until his car is either fixed or otherwise dealt with. We're still waiting to hear back from the insurance on how much they're willing to give us for repairs. Yes, we are looking into bus routes. He would have to leave 3 hours early for work to catch the buses he would need. It's an option, but not an ideal one.

Until we have a functioning car, I cannot schedule my lung tests- I can't go back to breathing normally. I can't find out what's wrong with me. I almost went to emergency again friday night. Now? I can't even go, even if I desperately needed to, we would have no option but to call for an ambulance, which is restrictively expensive.

This is why I need you. I need your commissions, as many as you can give me, to get us through this week, and possibly next week, until we know what is happening. Some of you have already reached out to me despite that I, up until now, had not disclosed the particulars of my emergency, and now I have. Thank you, for those of you who have already helped.

For everyone else who is new to my crisis, I have open commissions across the board.

So, at this point I've been at my new job for a couple weeks now. Things are going pretty good! I've got enough money to get some car issues fixed (thank god), but I'm still in need of a few other things; like groceries and gas and lunch money.

I could probably survive until next payday, since we have mike's money, but not without some discomfort.

So, for a little while I'm opening commissions. I'm opening five commission slots, but they will be up-front payment, and it may take me a little longer than 'usual' for me to get them back to you, since I'm working five days a week now, but as always, I will make every effort to get them to you as promptly as possible =).

Now that the release is out, obviously, some of this information is incorrect, so I'm going to make as many corrections here as I can.

Will I be able to use the avatar/patches you did for me in the update?
Yes. Legacy avatars and patches will still be used in legacy mode dreams. Legacy mode dreams however do not have 32 bit updated graphics. Better yet? There is an especially easy conversion tool in the new fox editor that will allow you to convert these legacy files to modern yourself, without needing to come to me (or any other artist) to do it for you! YAY.

Will you update my avatar/patches that you did for me to 32 bit?
I can, if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself! I can do a simple conversion (no edits or changes to shading of any kind, just to make the file work) for a simple 10% of the current base cost.

If you're wanting me to make edits to it (smoothing pixels, adding minor details like new accent colors, adding more contrast or shading, etc) the price will be 50% of the current cost of the item.

Will you update my avatar that someone else did for me to 32 bit? (This did not change).

In most cases, No. working on something that someone else already did for you is uncomfortable for me. However, if you have specified, written permission from the artist (A whisper, an email, something that I can see), I will do it for you if for some reason they wont. Or, if you for some reason cannot find the original artist, either they quit furc, stopped doing pixel art or aren't answering your emails after a serious length of time (more than three months), then I will be willing to do the bare minimum to make the avatar functional for you, but I refuse to make any other changes to the avatar beyond that. This too is not free, and will be negotiated based on my current prices.

What will you charge for the updates to avatars/patches?
Answered above:
Simple conversion: 10% of the current cost.

Full update: Edits to the original files/avatars (smoothing pixels, adding minor details like new accent colors, adding more contrast or shading, etc) the price will be 50% of the current cost of the item. This covers the small 'normal' furcadia screen size only.


Full size? Full screen? What's that?

Another new aspect of furcadia is that you will now be able to play it in full screen, and instead of everything looking really pixellated, your avatars now will have a second sprite for every frame that is TWICE as big. What does this mean? Double the details. Now, for some people, full size wont matter, because you may not want to play in full screen mode (I probably wont... I kinda like the furc screen not taking up my whole monitor). But then you wonder, what happens to the normal sized avatars if they don't have a full size sprite? Well, don't worry. Furc is programmed to, if you change to full screen, double size your normal sized sprite automatically... The down side is it just wont look as good as it would if you had an actual full size art in the file. So, for people to play in normal size only, full screen may not be worthwhile.

HOWEVER, I will say this. Full screen is a massive upgrade to the entire furcadia interface as a whole. Not only will avatars look better, but so will everything else. Dreams. Patches. Walls and floors. Literally everything will have twice the detail that its EVER had in furcadia. This might make you want to play in full screen after all. For those who would like to, I am indeed offering to do full size sprites for pre-existing avatars that I've done for you (Or under the same pretenses as stated above, if I did not do it for you).

What will this cost?

I am going to be asking for 75% of the current price for your avatar. Why? Because I basically have to completely redraw/smooth/detail and/or reshade every frame in the file. Its almost a brand new avatar, with the exception that I'm just using the avatar you already have as a base. Otherwise, these avatars will basically be completely brand new and will have double the detail they had before.

Patches will be a negotiated cost, depending on the size of the items and how much work I have to do on them, probably in the same 50%-75% price bracket. Negotiated.


Can I update my Avatar/Patches myself that you did for me?

For a simple conversion to use in 32 bit, absolutely!

In massive overhauls? No. This is for a couple reasons:
Firstly, I have all of the original files, and usually have full size versions of the art I used to make your avatar/patches in the first place, making it much easier for me to update and resize them for you, if that's what you need.

Secondly, I have a very unique style, and if you modify the work yourself, my signature style may be lost, and the art you edit will no longer match the rest of the work I have done for you. Thirdly, as many of you know, I pour hours of work and effort (and pride!) into each and every piece of work I put out. If you go through and edit it beyond recognition, A) The art I did for you no longer looks like I did it, and I don't want my name attached to it, B) You're basically accepting that it's okay for you to go in and alter something that I did for you, without respecting the work I did for you in the first place, and make it into something you feel is better and then representing that as my work. Frankly, I do not want my name misrepresented.

It's also against my TOS to largely edit any artwork I have done for you in any format, be it digital art, patches, avatar, etc.

You wouldn't go to a gallery, buy a nice, really expensive piece of art, and then paint onto it yourself, would you?

Yes, you do own the work once I sell it to you, but please respect it for what it is. I will be more than willing to make any edits for you, large or small, for an appropriate, usually nominal fee.

How will this update affect new avatars and updates? Will they need to be upgraded too?

All new patches will be done in the new format and editor.
I am no longer going to be doing legacy patches!
Your new patches won't need to be modified in any way to work properly =).

I barely have time to do personal work anymore, and it's just been stacking up. I have a large number of projects that I really want to get done before I open up commissions again.

I'll still be doing Adopts, and I *may* still be doing YCH's every month, but beyond those I will not be taking any more side commissions.

I'm not sure how long my break will last. It could be anywhere from a week to three weeks, but you'll definitely know when I'm open again!
